From hearing the plan, Dias tried to befriend [[Wei]], a [[China|Chinese]] [[bomb]]-maker, but Wei refused and continued to ride with Roshan. When they set up to ambush the Martyrs, Dias joined the group, but was reluctant to fight with the others, while [[Iran|Persian]] mercenary [[Azadeh]] guarded Wei, who was in charge to drop the bomb. Aided by Mared, Dias fought well enough to survive, until he was disarmed. Dias called for Mared, who came and covered him. However, while resting, Roshan took ahold of the dhow and steered in the right direction. While riding and following Onyx, they stopped when the wolf sensed a disturbance. At their stop, Nafanua fell over simultaneously when arrows were loosed upon the group. Fortunately, when Onyx took down two of the attackers, Dias, Roshan, and Azadeh fought and killed the rest. Realizing they were sent by the Martyrs, Dias accused and held Francis by his sword while Roshan saw that Nafanua was dead, but by [[poison]]. When Roshan also accused Francis and [[Interrogation|interrogated]] him on his background, the Christian prophet dropped his act and proclaimed his allegiance with the Martyrs. Before he could act, Dias was hit by Francis, who fled from them. Wanting to kill him, Dias was stopped by Roshan, who said Francis will lead them to the Martyrs. When Onyx started to trace Francis' scent, they all follow the wolf and saw their destination to be [[Baghdad]].<ref name="Chapter 17"/>

Entering Baghdad, Dias caught sight of Francis, who was entering the [[House of Wisdom]]. With the house guarded, the remaining three mercenaries sneaked inside and saw a private function between the Martyrs and their customer, with Francis in attendance. Positioning themselves, after Azadeh signaled Onyx to attack and kill Francis, Dias jumped and decapitated one of the Martyrs, with Roshan following up with another kill. While Roshan and Azadeh fought off two Martyrs, Dias fought off against his own Martyr. Fortunately, he bested his opponent while the other Martyrs were killed by Roshan, Azadeh, and their recently arrived employer. While the hooded stranger then fought against the customer, Dias saw the case and went to obtain what was inside.
