			Deva Victric was built in the 70s AD by the [[Roman Empire\|Romans]], and was rebuilt several times over the following centuries, up until its abandonment in the late 4th to early 5th century. The name Deva Victrix derives from "goddess" (Brythonic ''dēvā'', Latin ''dea'' or ''diva'') after the goddess of the River Dee, and the title of the Legio XX ''Valeria Victrix'' who were based there.<ref name="WP">{{WP\|Deva Victrix}}</ref>
