[[Israel Hands]] was the loyal and able sailing master to [[Edward Thatch|Blackbeard]] during the [[Piracy|pirate]] king's heyday. For several years he served his [[captain]] with courage and gusto, until Blackbeard's [[Attack on Ocracoke|sudden death]] at the hands of the notorious [[United Kingdom|British]] [[Bounty hunter|pirate hunter]] Lieutenant [[Robert Maynard]]. Left without a captain or [[ship]], Hands ingratiated himself into another pirate crew working out of [[Havana]].

Bitter at what he perceived as a lack of recognition, Hands engineered a mutiny against the captain of his new crew, wresting control of the ship and killing or marooning all who would not follow him.

Still simmering with resentment, Hands behand hunting any he perceived to have wronged him.
