[[Amritsar|AMRITSAR]]//[[India|INDIA]]//1830<br><br>The [[Harmandir Sahib|Darbār Sāhib]], also called the Harimandir, was built in 1604 as a {{Wiki|Sikhism|Sikh}} religious complex. It was destroyed on several occasions by [[Afghanistan|Afghan]] invaders, only to be rebuilt during the reign of Maharaja [[Ranjit Singh]] in the early nineteenth century. The new structure was decorated with [[gold]] and filled with gold ornaments, leading it to be called the "Golden Temple".
