The Cú Chulainn Shield's design is based on the {{wiki|Battersea Shield}} found in the [[River Thames]], [[London]] in 1857.

The shield's description is a reference to the creation of Cú Chulainn's shield Dubán in the {{wiki|Ulster Cycle}}.
