Of the three options presented, I certainly prefer #3, though I would rather we restrict ''floruit'' (or "flourished") to being used in the infobox only. This way we can minimise any potential confusion.

What I'm suggesting is that only known dates of birth and dates of death are indiciated in the introduction, and in those instances were neither are known (i.e. we have to use ''floruit''/''flourished'') that date range is marked in the infobox only.
