In spring, Nobunaga sent Hideyoshi to attack Miki Castle, with the general beginning a {{Wiki|siege}} to take over the surrounding [[fort]]s and cut off supply routes to the castle. Despite a new supply route briefly opening in winter before being cut off, the food supplies in Miki was completely depleted by the early 1580s. As a result, Bessho, along with his wife and younger brother, surrendered and commited ''{{Wiki|seppuku}}'' on the condition that the castle soldiers be spared,<ref name="Siege of Miki DB" /> a deal which Hideyoshi agreed. After his death, Nagaharu's head was cut off and was taken by Hideyoshi back to [[Azuchi Castle]], who presented it to Nobunaga in the autumn of 1581.<ref name="Lords of Azuchi" />
