On 1 July 1582, Naoe and Yasuke met with [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hashiba Hideyoshi]]'s wife and ally, [[Nene]], who informed to meet her husband at the battlegrounds where he planned to siege [[Shōryū-ji Castle]].<ref name="The Peasant Who Would Be King">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[The Peasant Who Would Be King]]</ref> Within the next day, they met with Hideyoshi and informed him that they would aid in his attack while they planned to confront Mitsuhide alone during the battle.<ref name="Topple the Traitor">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[Topple the Traitor]]</ref>

Hideyoshi soon led his forces against Mitsuhide at [[Yamazaki]] and pushed him back towards Shōryū-ji Castle, where Mitsuhide gathered his remaining forces. While Hideyoshi readied his men for their assault, Mitsuhide saw no reinforcements from any allies, especially his leader [[Ashikaga Yoshiaki]] but planned to fight anyway. However, while Hideyoshi fought against Mitsuhide's forces, Mitsuhide soon left to escape until he was confronted Naoe and Yasuke. While the [[Akechi clan]] leader fled and left his [[soldier]]s to fight them, Naoe and Yasuke defeated his men and gave chase after him.<ref name="Topple the Traitor"/>

With his forces dwindled, Mitsuhide arrived on the river besides the village [[Ōyamazaki]]. However, tired of running, he dismissed his soldiers before meeting Naoe and Yasuke head-on. For one last time, Mitsuhide fought against the pair and was ultimately bested. In his last breath, he admitted that his leader was the former ''shōgun'' Yoshiaki and commended Yasuke for being Nobunaga's best samurai. Before he could commit ''seppuku'', Naoe ultimately killed him with her blade and gave him a dishonorable death. Hideyoshi later found and thanked them for their service before stating his role to follow Nobunaga's goals and leading the country towards unification.<ref name="Topple the Traitor"/>

==Aftermath==
Naoe and Yasuke later tracked down Yoshiaki at [[Kurama-dera|Kuramadera Temple]] north of [[Kyoto]]. There, Yoshiaki returned the box with the [[Imperial Regalia of Japan|regalia]] inside.
