After the successes at [[Siege of Orléans|Orléans]], [[Battle of Jargeau|Jargeau]], and [[Battle of Meung-sur-Loire|Meung-sur-Loire]], [[Jeanne d'Arc]] and the French forces trudged further down the [[Loire|Loire River]].<ref name="ACH Ch26"/> The English, led by the regrouped [[John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury]], were stationed at [[Beaugency]], a town on the Loire River. The French forces, including troops loyal to Charles VII and those commanded by Joan of Arc, sought to capture Beaugency to secure control of the strategically important river crossing.<ref name="WP">{{WP|Battle of Beaugency (1429)}}</ref>
