The '''Assault on Iwaya Castle''' took place at [[Iwaya Castle]], [[Japan]] in 1585 during the late [[Sengoku period]]. It was fought between [[Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins|Kakushiba ''ikki'']], aided by the local ''[[ashigaru]]'', and the [[Japanese Rite of the Templar Order|Japanese Templar]] [[Kimura Yukari]] and her collective, the ''[[Sanzoku Ippa]]''.

The battle ended with the death of Yukari and her ''[[Sanzoku Ippa]]'' nearly dismantled while the Assassins recovered the sword ''{{Wiki|Kusanagi no Tsurugi}}'', one of the [[Imperial Regalia of Japan|Imperial Regalia]], from the Templars' hands.

==The assault==
Planning their assault, Naoe, Yasuke, and Naoe's mother and [[Master Assassin]] [[Fujibayashi Tsuyu]] conferred at [[Sumoto Kakurega]] before beginning their attack. Tsuyu was in charge to recover the sword ''{{Wiki|Kusanagi no Tsurugi}}'', one of the [[Imperial Regalia of Japan]], while Naoe was tasked to bring down the barricade at [[Iwaya Castle]] as a signal for Yasuke and his forces to charge. Leaving [[Sumoto]], they all went about their objectives.<ref name="The Final Assault">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]] – [[Claws of Awaji]]'' – [[The Final Assault]]</ref>

Naoe managed to enter the castle's grounds and find the materials needed to set the barricades aflame. Doing so, Yasuke, along with the help of the ''ashigaru'' and [[Hattori Hanzō]], charged the castle and killed all the incoming guards in their way. Making their way to the ''tenshu'', Naoe met with Yasuke and Hanzō. While Naoe made her way to find her mother, Yasuke ventured to the ''tenshu'' alone while Hanzō dealt with any incoming ''Sanzoku Ippa'' guards. Within the ''tenshu'', Yasuke saw a lone warrior and demanded Yukari's location. Turning around, Yukari revealed herself as the warrior and admitted to being her [[Kimura Kei|father]]'s first and perhaps greatest students. While Yasuke offered a honorable fight, Yukari chastized him by stating nor Tsuyu nor his former lord [[Oda Nobunaga|Nobunaga]] were by his side and that all anyone has is themselves.<ref name="The Final Assault"/>

Yukari soon unsheathed her ''[[naginata]]'' and fought Yasuke. After a lengthy bout, Yukari lost hold of her ''naginata'' and unsheathed her ''[[katana]]s'', telling Yasuke that her cause is herself solely. Ultimately, Yasuke defeated Yukari, who stated that his presence and actions meant nothing before succumbing to her wounds.<ref name="The Final Assault"/>

==Aftermath==
After the assault ended, Naoe searched for her mother and traced her trail of dead bodies out of the castle. Making her way to the [[Iwaya Castle Harbor|harbor]], she found Tsuyu overwhelmed by the ''Sanzoku Ippa'' soldiers. Saving her mother and eliminating all the soldiers, Naoe went to Tsuyu, who apologized for failing her part in the mission. However, Naoe told her that all she wanted is her mother back. Tsuyu, although wary, promised to work on being one. With the sword back in their possession and Yasuke meeting up with them, they decided to return all the Regalia back to the Emperor. Thus, Naoe and Tsuyu traveled back to the mainland and gave back all the Regalia to [[Michihito|Emperor Ōgimachi]] at his [[Kyoto Imperial Palace|palace]] in [[Kyoto]].<ref name="Trouble with the Regalia">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]] – [[Claws of Awaji]]'' – [[Trouble with the Regalia]]</ref>
