Suddenly, several {{Wiki|Ballista|ballistae}} emerge from the towers and fire on the blimps, piercing their passenger cars but fortunately missing the actual passengers. After commenting on the "warm welcome" given by the temple, [[Edward Kenway]] gives the order to retaliate with a "greeting" of their own as the crew open fire on the complex using their cannons.

The [[Joseon]] shell bombs successfully pierce the energy field and destroy the ballistae-filled towers. However, from among the rubble, a signal is sent to the Piece of Eden at the heart of the temple. Detecting level three damage to its infrastructre, indicating a deliberate enemy attack, the artifact activates the temple's "Dipa Lantern" security protocol, which Edward is able to sense through his [[Eagle Vision]]. Elsewhere, [[Xiao Han]] and [[Liu Qing]] also sense that something is amiss, as the former declares that the Forgotten Temple has finally awoken.
