Akiyama Ayako was a Japanese warrior and the matriarch of the Akiyama clan who lived in the Yamato Province during the late Sengoku period.

Biography
Conflict with Tsutsui clan
In 1582, Akiyama Ayako was the designated leader of her clan and was at odds with the Tsutsui clan and its daimyō Tsutsui Junkei. Despite talks of peace, she and Junkei were nearly brought to the brinks of war, even with the help of the mediator and the head abbot Joken Hokkyō. Fortunately, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke came to investigate the mysterious, dark acts happening across Yamato.

After speaking with Junkei and Joken about missing envoys, Naoe and Yasuke sought to investigate the claims and came across their mysterious acquiantance Kojiro at an inn in Mitsue. After briefly speaking with Kojiro, they came under suspicion by a drunk Akiyama soldier who challenged them to a duel outside. After the pair bested the soldier, Ayako intervened and revealed herself, telling them that she investigated the soldier himself for possibly betraying the clan. After interrogating the soldier, Ayako kicked him unconsciousness while the pair left to find the Tsutsui envoys.

After they rescued the envoy at the Iron Ore Storage near Utano and recovering the peace talks' invitation at Uda Matsuyama Castle from rogue Akiyama soldiers, Naoe and Yasuke met with Ayako at Kasugataisha Shrine where they gave her the invitation. Discussing how there was no obstacle in her path, they stated that they plan to see her, to which Ayako responded that she would not miss it.

At Kofukuji Temple, Ayako attended the peace talks with Junkei while Joken Hokkyō continued to monitor the conversation. Within the tense talks, Hokkyō paused the discussion, leading to both Junkei and Ayako to believe that peace was not possible. Before they could continue, they witnessed a soldier fall to his death with a teppō in his hand. While Ayako and Junkei blamed each other, Yasuke stopped their accusations and stated one of the three was not honest about their intentions. However, influenced by Kojiro, Yasuke threw a tantō at the abbot, who caught it with ease and revealed his true nature as a member of the Shinbakufu.

Ayako and Junkei realized that they were duped while Hokkyō ordered his monks and soldiers to kill them all, including bringing the head of Yasuke to him. Although, Yasuke and the daimyōs soldiers managed to kill the abbot's warriors. Later, Naoe and Yasuke chased and confronted Joken Hokkyō, ultimately killing him in the process. With the abbot's death, this brought a chance for Ayako and Junkei to seek peace between their clans without the Shinbakufu's interference.
