==History==
The stone was stolen into the possession of a [[Roman Republic|Roman]] general campaigning in the {{wiki|Second Punic War}}, and Wei Yu journeyed from [[China]] all the way to the [[Mediterranean Sea|Mediterranean]] to recover it. He became acquainted with the ''[[mercenary|misthios]]'' [[Kassandra]] during this quest, and the two struck a deal that involved working together to retrieve the stone.<ref group="note" name="note1">The memory "[[A Mediterranean Expedition]]", which alludes to this deal, is vague on its terms. The ending implies that Wei Yu's end of the bargain is to retrieve the stone, but given that it is his disciple's heirloom, this would appear to be his own objective instead.</ref> The two intervened in a battle between the [[Carthage|Carthaginians]] and Romans in the {{wiki|Ionian Islands}}, where Wei Yu met [[Hannibal Barca]] and slew the Roman general in a duel to seize back the stone. The Tianyan Stone was then subsequently returned to the disciple. In 215 BCE,<ref name="Primer">Ubisoft. (12 June 2023). Having been invited into the [[Qin dynasty|Qin]] grand general's service, they had instead lashed out against another officer, [[Yang Duanhe]], on sight because they recognized him as the murderer of their [[Chu Huan|sworn brother]]. Meng Tian intercepted the attack, and although the disciple defeated his guards, the general eventually disarmed them and knocked them the ground. Just as he moved in for the kill, the Tianyan Stone activated and imbued the disciple with such strength that they were able to deflect his blade with their [[short blade|dagger]]. Stunned by this turn of events, Meng Tian ceased hostilities, apparently having recognized the artifact and its association with Wei Yu, whom he respected as a former comrade-in-arms against the [[Xiongnu]]. The disciple informed him of their relationship to Wei Yu, and on that basis, Meng Tian was willing to rekindle their cooperation with one another and permit them to act covertly against Yang Duanhe thereafter.<ref name="A Modest Invitation" />

==Behind the scenes==
The Tianyan Stone was the objective of the prologue in the closed beta test of ''[[Assassin's Creed: Codename Jade]]''. Beyond that, it was not mentioned again except in the main mission "[[A Modest Invitation]]", where it appeared briefly in a narrated segment used as a placeholder for a cutscene. Its nature and powers hitherto remain unrevealed beyond that it enhances the protagonist's strength according to the narrated scene and that, according to a loading screen tip, it is the protagonist's heirloom.
