'''Taki Choji''' (died 1526) was a [[Japan|Japanese]] [[Piracy|pirate]] active in the {{Wiki|East China Sea}} during the early 16th century.

===Early years===
Taki Choji was raised into monkhood as a child where he spent his time in a Japanese monastery reading [[Buddhism|Buddhist]] scriptures. At the age of fifteen, he was excommunicated and eventually became a [[samurai]] and lent his services to a lord, serving alongside a fellow samurai named [[Fukuyuma Waretsuku]]. After the lord's death, Choji and Waretsuku became ronins before turning to piracy. Choji became the leader of a small band of pirates, with Waretsuku becoming his assistant. As a small band, Choji and his crew spent their time raiding small trading vessels in the sea which slowly expanded their crew.<ref name="Ming Storm">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Ming Storm]]'' – Prologue</ref>

In one such raids, Choji took the chance to raid a large [[ship]] which had been left stranded. He and his men boarded the ship and were greeted by the foul smell of decomposing bodies on the deck, victims of a previous raid by another group of pirates. Among the bodies, Choji found a surviving small boy and adopted him, naming him [[Katana (pirate)|Katana]]. Katana became an essential member of his adoptive father's crew.<ref name="Ming Storm" />

By the 1520s, Choji had raided close to the water surrounding the [[Ming dynasty|Ming Empire]]. To reduce the disturbances he attracted from his raids, Choji made agreements with the coastal villages around the region in which he would be paid with tributes, and the villages would be spared and left in peace. During this time, his crew came into conflict with another pirate leader named [[Wang]], whose crew were comprised of both [[bandit]]s and traders. Both leaders came into a mutual agreement to avoid interfering in each other's affairs, and co-exist in the region.<ref name="Ming Storm" />

In 1526, Choji and his crew settled on a small island, expecting a tribute from a local chieftain named [[Sun (chieftain)|Sun]]. In his place however was [[Zhang Yong]], a [[China|Chinese]] eunuch and the leader of his group of [[Templars]] known as the [[Eight Tigers]], who offered Choji a large box which he claimed contained cured meats. What came out from the box was a man with superhuman strength named [[Beelzebub]], who proceeded to slaughter Choiji, his son and his crew as a test.<ref name="Ming Storm" />
