'''Taiyuan''' (太原) is a city and the capital of the [[China|Chinese]] province of {{Wiki|Shanxi}}. Since its founding, the city has served as a capital or provincial capital of many Chinese dynasties, dating back to the {{Wiki|Warring States period}}.

In 756, the [[Hidden One]] [[Li E]] was captured and brought to the [[Mengshan Giant Buddha]] in the city, which served as a prison and where he was awaiting execution. Li E was able to free himself by killing two unsuspecting [[guard]]s and using the keys to unlock his chains.
