Neokles first attempted to solve the issue by artificially pollinate the flowers, though this caused the soil to degrade.<ref name="BirdsBees">''Assassin's Creed: Odyssey – The Fate of Atlantis: Judgment of Atlantis'' – [[The Birds and the Bees]]</ref> At some point, his hypothesis was that using a natural power source stronger than the sun would promote sustainable growth and, to test this, Neokles had light-projecting devices installed around the gardens.<ref name="Light"/>

The project was opposed by fellow scientist [[Melitta (Isu)|Melitta]], who had seen Neokles' failed attempts and argued that nature could self-correct and that they should just "stop meddling". She once sabotaged one of Neokles' experiments by stealing the power source, but was caught.<ref name="BirdsBees"/>
