The Snake-Eaters were founded in the early 9th century by a [[Sogdia]]n hero celebrated for uniting various tribes.<ref name = "Paragraph 129">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Silk Road]]'' – Paragraph 129</ref> His marriage to a rich woman from [[Chang'an]] expanded his influence and bore him a son who because the leader of the group after the founder's passing.<ref name = "Paragraph 173"/> After his death, his daughter [[Dunya]] became the leader,<ref name = "Paragraph 054">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Silk Road]]'' – Paragraph 054</ref> and though she was not immediately accepted, she was able to extend their area of influence along the road reaching even [[Antioch]].<ref name = "Paragraph 173"/> Slowly, by building a number of [[caravanserai]]s and repelling bandit groups, the Sanke-Eaters established themselves as protectors, for a price. In 870, the Snake-Eaters drove out the [[Hidden Ones]] from Antioch, causing [[Basim Ibn Ishaq]] to then send letters to other [[Assassin bureau|bureaus]] asking for help, being answered by the Hidden Ones in [[Chinon]] and [[Alexandria]].<ref name = "Sequence 2">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Silk Road]]'' – Sequence 2</ref> Later, as the group of Hidden Ones that answered Basim's request travelled along the Road, they reached a citadel belonging to the Snake-Eaters and fought Dunya, who was injured but survived,<ref name = "Sequence 3">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Silk Road]]'' – Sequence 3</ref> and kidnapped [[Matthias]], bringing the Hidden One to Chang'an.<ref name = "Sequence 5">''[[Assassin's Creed: The Silk Road]]'' – Sequence 5</ref> Dunya, along with the remaining Snake-Eaters were finally defeated in Chang'an, eliminating the group.<ref name = "Sequence 5"/>
