In mid first century BCE, the city was in constant conflict between landowners and the peasants who worked their fields. At one particular moment, the conflict sublimated into violence thanks to the unethical practices of [[Wenkare]], and the angry mob that followed attempted to kill [[Qenna]], the son of a lower-ranking civil official, but their efforts were thwarted  by his bodyguards, [[Raia]] and [[Bion]].<ref name="Ch 20"/>
