The '''Nabataeans''' were an ancient {{Wiki|Arabs|Arab}} people who lived mainly in northern [[Arabia]] and the southern part of the [[Levant]]. By the 5th century AD, the Nabataeans converted to Christianity and the last remaining of their people were seen as peasants by the [[Byzantine Empire|Later Roman Era]].<ref>{{WP|Nabataeans}}</ref>

===Sinai rebellion against Roman occupation===
In the late 1st century BCE, the Nabataeans living in [[Sinai]] formed a rebellion against the [[Roman Empire|Roman]] occupation, led by general and [[Order of the Ancients|Order]] leader [[Gaius Julius Rufio]]. Following their leader [[Gamilat]], the Nabataeans sought to push and force their Roman enemies back.<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Origins]] — [[The Hidden Ones (DLC)|The Hidden Ones]]''</ref>  However, Gamilat willingly created situations, which the rebels initiated attacks against Roman [[soldier]]s, retreated back into local villages, and had villagers be attacked without any protection. In 38 BCE, [[Egyptian Brotherhood of Assassins|Egyptian Hidden One]] [[Tahira]] set up a [[Hidden Ones Klysma bureau|bureau]] in Sinai and aided the Nabataeans. However, two Hidden Ones fell to one of these Roman attacks and thus she messaged [[Assassins|Hidden Ones]]' co-founder and friend [[Bayek]] to aid her.<ref name="TheHiddenOnes">''[[Assassin's Creed: Origins]] — [[The Hidden Ones (DLC)|The Hidden Ones]]'' – [[The Hidden Ones (memory)|The Hidden Ones]]</ref> Upon his arrival, Bayek met with Tahira and Gamilat and agreed to help the Nabataeans be rid their Roman oppressors. In [[Klysma Nome]], Nabataean inhabitants and children were sold into [[slavery]]. When Hidden One [[Osorkon]] went to investigate, he uncovered that a local Nabataean woman [[Shaqilat]] was rescuing the enslaved. However, Osorkon was caught and interrogated by Roman soldiers for information on his brotherhood. Fortunately, he was rescued by Bayek, whom he told about Shaqilat. After finding her, Bayek aided her when they came under attack from Roman soldiers over her actions. At [[Klysma Quarry]], Nabataeans were still taken as prisoners and unlawfully forced to work under Roman legate and Order member Tacito. However, Tacito was [[assassination|assassinated]] by Bayek and then he and Tahira freed the prisoners and took back the quarry.<ref name="WheretheSlavesDie">''[[Assassin's Creed: Origins]] — [[The Hidden Ones (DLC)|The Hidden Ones]]'' – [[Where the Slaves Die]]</ref> At Arsinoe, Nabataean workers under mason and Order member Ptahmose worked to find relics for Rome, the [[Blades of Thoth]], and [[Shard of a Star|shards of a star]] by desecrating the [[Pyramid of Amenmesse]]. Nabataeans rebels tried to fight against Ptahmose's hold but were captured and tortured for information back at [[Vilicus Castra]]. After the deaths of Rufio's three lieutenants, Rufio responded with an attack on the bureau, which led to Tahira's death and Bayek's brief capture. In response, Bayek confronted and killed Gamilat, who understood his wrongdoings and accepted his death. Ultimately, the Nabataeans lost their leader but remembered the tales of Gamilat's heroism. Gamilat's death also served as an inspiration to the [[The Creed|Creed]]'s first tenet: to stay their blade from the innocents.<ref name="TheGreaterGood"/>
