'''Kokan''' was a [[Japan]]ese farmer who lived in the hills of [[Aizu]].

==Biography==
At some point in his life, Kokan owed a substantial debt to [[Shiba Tanomo]], one of Aizu's [[samurai]]. When Tanomo and his children were invited to ''daimyo'' [[Matsudaira Katamori]]'s home, he asked Kokan for a prize [[Cattle|cow]] as a gift. Thus, Kokan and Tanomo agreed on a price while he waited for Tanomo's children [[Shiba Atsuko]] and [[Shiba Ibuka]] to come and pay for his cow. However, although the kids arrived late, he received the payment and stated to them that his cow is the first part of his debt. When Ibuka and Atsuko asked for more information, he stated it was late and that their father would tell them.
