After the raid, Sisson enlisted in the recently reorganized {{Wiki|1st Rhode Island Regiment|Rhode Island Regiment}}, which largely comprised of African slaves and Native Americans in segregated companies. Unlike the rest of the recruits who were granted freedom at the end of their service, Sisson remained and fought throughout the war, taking part in the {{Wiki|Battle of Rhode Island}} and later the [[Siege of Yorktown|Battle of Yorktown]]. He eventually died at the age of 78.<ref name="Database" />
