Sages are typically born with personalities and memories of their own, but they also possess the memories of the Isu they are the incarnations of. These memories which usually manifest themselves as visions at some point during adulthood and later throughout a Sage's life, although it is not uncommon for these visions to manifest during childhood. The process is described as a very traumatic experience, with the individual believing they are going mad as their own memories and personality are gradually merged with the Isu's own. Some Sages like Jacques de Molay eventually found some mental stability, but the majority of them became erratic and somewhat mad.<ref name="ACU"/> Others, such as Kavanagh, tried to resist the change, albeit with limited success, holding on to their former selves by constantly keeping the new memories at bay.<ref name="AC4"/>

In some cases, such as Bartholomew Roberts or John Standish, the personality of these Sages took a much darker turn, making them highly cynical, misanthropic and even nihilistic. Bartholomew Roberts' views on his own life as well as his complete disregard for human life made even someone as stoic as [[Edward Kenway]] uncomfortable around him.<ref name="AC4"/> These Sages also had a very strong obsession with reviving Juno from [[the Grey]].<ref name="AC4Modern"/> Another prominent example is [[Basim Ibn Ishaq]], the Sage of the Isu [[Loki]], who went mad upon reliving the Isu's memories and assimilated Loki's personality into himself, becoming a proper reincarnation of Loki.<ref name="A Brother's Keeper"/> 

However, though rare, it is possible for a Sage to maintain control over themselves and remain mentally stable, like Elijah.<ref name="Uprising"/> This is most likely due to his preexisting-unique ancestry as well as him being a Sage,<ref name="ACS Database">''[[Assassin's Creed: Syndicate]]'' – [[Database: Reconstructed Data 010]]</ref> making him able to have complete control over his Isu abilities and not succumb into any form of delusions or insanity. Sigurd appeared to have more of a symbiotic relationship with the Isu Tyr and held his own personality without succumbing to any ill side effects from recovering Týr's memories. For her part, Eivor had to fight to suppress the will of Odin, who had been communicating with her since childhood, when the pair were often at odds with each other.<ref name="A Brother's Keeper"/>

Sages are also noted for possessing exceptionally high levels of intelligence and understanding, making them capable of picking up and mastering concepts alien to their upbringing and cultural background very easily. Sages also display exceeding talent in one way or another and have been known to excel it any area of expertise. Given the fact that most reincarnated Isu were either prominent Isu scientist or polymaths, it has not been yet revealed if Sages actually possess memories of the Isu's advanced scientific knowledge. 

In other examples, Sages like Sigurd and Svala had recovered all of their Isu memories and therefore had a proper understanding of Isu culture and science. For example, Sigurd knew some, if not all, of the [[Isu script|Isu language]] and was able to issue the right vocal commands to the Temple that lead to the [[Yggdrasil]] chamber.<ref name="A Brother's Keeper"/>

According to Abstergo, while the genome of an average human contains 0.0002% to 0.0005% of First Civilization DNA, the concentration reaches from 5% to 6% in the genome of Sages. In comparison, the most gifted human recorded, Desmond Miles, had a count five times lower, potentially giving the Sages an unmatched access to [[Eagle Vision]] and an exceptional affinity with [[Piece of Eden|Pieces]] of [[Eden]].<ref>''Assassin's Creed: Unity'' – [[Database: 05. The Sages bear a strong physical resemblance to the Isu they are a reincarnation of. For example, Aita's Sages usually possess a distinctive combination of {{Wiki|anisocoria}} and {{Wiki|heterochromia iridum|heterochromia}}, biological traits which Aita naturally possessed. Despite being very close in appearance, the Sages came from diverse genetic and ethnic backgrounds and do not always express the same parts of the Sage's DNA and as a result are not actual clones. After Odin sacrificed his left eye in payment in order to use it as catalyst, the machine{{Cite}} [[Mímir]] accepted this sacrifice and the serum was finally synthesized, much to Juno's delight. With both the Isu taking samples of the fluid, she cautioned him to use the serum moments before his death in order for it to work, as only the memories happening prior to the consumption of the concussion would be preserved within the new body. With the Mead now in hand,<ref name="Price of Wisdom">''Assassin's Creed: Valhalla'' – [[The Price of Wisdom]]</ref> she was able to successfully insert her late husband's essence into a human bloodline, tweaking the functions of the solution to reincarnate his beloved indefinitely for the following millennia.<ref name="AC4"/>

In 877 CE, Sigurd and Eivor returned to Norway,<ref>''Assassin's Creed: Valhalla'' – [[The Road to Valhalla]]</ref><ref>''Assassin's Creed: Valhalla'' – [[Where Legends Are Born]]</ref> entering the Yggdrasil vault by pronouncing the words carved on the Saga Stone. Inside, they encountered the supercomputer and used it to enter the simulation of Valhalla, encountering Svala as Freyja, who had been there for four years. Despite initially enjoying the simulation, Eivor realized that everything was a simulation and managed to convince her brother to leave, while Svala stayed. However, Odin's consciousness tried to force Eivor to stay in the simulation, with her fighting it in her mind and ejecting herself from the machine, repressing her Isu side.<ref name="A Brother's Keeper"/>

Basim, who had tailed them to the site, had understood that Eivor was indeed the host of Odin's mind instead of Sigurd. He took Sigurd hostage but quickly released him as Eivor went to attack him. During the fight, Basim blamed the imprisonment of his son on a clueless Eivor, who in turn believed he had lost his mind. As the Hidden One was beat by Eivor, he decided to kill Sigurd instead in order to tease her, but she arrived in time to save her sibling. Eivor then proceeded to distract him in a last confrontation while Sigurd powered up Yggdrasil to trap Basim and sending his consciousness to [[the Grey]]. After this, Sigurd conceded his role of Ravensthorpe's ''jarl'' to his sister.<ref name="A Brother's Keeper"/>

In January next year, Eivor led the assault that resulted on the [[Battle of Chippenham|Battle of Cippenham]].<ref>''Assassin's Creed: Valhalla'' - [[Kingdom's End]]</ref> Although the Vikings won the fight, conquering England in its totality, the confront resulted on several casualties on their side, including [[Soma]], [[Hjorr Halfsson]], and [[Hunwald]]. After giving the warriors their last rites, Eivor had a discussion about possible afterlives with [[Guthrum]], venting to him that she would now seize her time among her friends and family rather than wish and strive for Valhalla after having witnessed its emptiness while in Yggdrasil's chamber.<ref>''Assassin's Creed: Valhalla'' – [[Holy Day]]</ref>
