==Biography==
===Under Nobutsuna's tutelage===
In his youth, Hozoin In'ei studied under Kamiizumi Nobutsuna. After some time, he soon became one of Nobutsuna's oldest friends and became known as a wise and patient master of the ''kanabō''. Afterwards, he left Nobutsuna's side and ventured towards Yamato.<ref name="Nobutsuna Students">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[Nobutsuna's Students]]</ref>

===Life as a protector===
By 1582, Hozoin In'ei served as a retainer to a local ''[[daimyō]]'' in Yamato. However, when the [[bandit]]s' attacks were becoming an immediate issue, he was told to stand down and leave the people to them. In response, Hozoin decided to train the locals how to fight and also killed a multitude of bandits, disobeying his lord's orders. While he was reconstructing a statue at [[Choanji Yakushido]], he was approached by fellow Nobutsuna student and [[Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins|Kakushiba ''ikki'']] member [[Yasuke]], who came to learn his teachings of the kanabō.<ref name="Nobutsuna Students"/>

While he posed the same dilemma to Yasuke, Hozoin accepted the duel nonetheless. While they dueled with their kanabōs, Hozoin began divulging pieces of advice while sparring. He was then bested by Yasuke, whom he told about how he disobeyed his lord's wishes in the dilemma mentioned. Although he stated that he will be ready to face the consequences, Yasuke admitted to having dealt with the bandits' leader, thus stopping any reprecussions from happening. Thanking Yasuke and giving his last words of advice, Hozoin gifted the kanabō, [[Phantom Fist]], to Yasuke before they parted ways.<ref name="Nobutsuna Students"/>
