The '''Emirate of Granada''' was the last [[Moors|Moorish]] state of the {{wiki|Iberian Peninsula}}. Ruled by the [[Nasrid dynasty]], the emirate held the southern end of Iberia from the 13th century until it was finally extinguished by the [[Spain|Crown of Castile]] in 1492 with the [[Granada War]], ending the centuries-long period in Spanish history known as the ''[[Reconquista]]'' where the Christian kingdoms sought to permanently expel the Islamic powers from the peninsula.<ref name="AC2D">''[[Assassin's Creed II: Discovery]]''</ref>

In its twilight years, it was allied with the [[Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins]] while the [[Spanish Inquisition]], under the control of the [[Spanish Rite of the Templar Order|Spanish Rite]] of the [[Templars|Templar Order]], pushed for Queen [[Isabella I of Castile]] and King [[Ferdinand II of Aragon]] to wage a protracted war against it. Rather than seeking to exterminate the Moors, the Templars hoped that the conflict would devastate the economy of Castile in a convoluted scheme to eliminate any possibility that Queen Isabella would fund the expedition of [[Genoa|Genoese]] explorer [[Christopher Columbus]] to the [[Americas|New World]].<ref name="AC2D" />

In 1491, when it was far too late for the Assassins to save the emirate from collapse, [[Italian Brotherhood of Assassins|Italian Assassin]] [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] rescued the last emir, [[Muhammad XII of Granada]], from the clutches of the Templars and convinced him to abdicate to put an end to the violence and the Templar plot. With this, the Emirate of Granada, the last Islamic state of Iberia, came to an end.<ref name="AC2D" />
