'''Abu Muhammad Musa ibn al-Mahdi al-Hadi''' (764 – 786), better known by his regnal name '''al-Hadi''', was the fourth [[caliph]] of the [[Abbasid Caliphate|Abbasid Empire]] from 785 to 786. He was the son of [[al-Mahdi]] and [[al-Khayzuran]] and the older brother of [[Harun al-Rashid]].

After ascending to the throne, al-Hadi attempted to curtail his mother's power over the Abbasid court, believing that a woman's place was not in politics, leading to Khayzuran having him killed and replaced with his brother.<ref name="Echoes Harem">''[[Echoes of History]]'' – Baghdad Soundwalks: "The Harem"</ref> After his death, the military force in [[Baghdad]], who had backed him, attempted to organize a rebellion against the new caliph, but Khayzuran paid off the guard and quelled the uprising.<ref name="Echoes Bazaar">''[[Echoes of History]]'' – Baghdad Soundwalks: "The Bazaar"</ref>
