'''Ben Alder''' (Scottish Gaelic: ''Beinn Eallair'') is a mountain in the [[Scotland|Scottish]] Highlands, home to a [[fort]] of the same name.  The fort was nestled into the mountain, as if it had been carved out of the rock itself, with four towers of different heights and a massive main keep. Legends say that the old fortress had been built by the [[Gaels]] as a stronghold in their efforts to conquer Scotland and expand {{Wiki|Dál Riata}}, their kingdom.<ref name = "Chapter 25">''Assassin's Creed: Fragments – The Highlands Children'' – Chapter 25: ''Assassin''</ref>

Ever since Sören's clan took hold of the castle, it also became a considerable strategic asset to the Brotherhood, with only a chosen few knowing of its existance. During the flourishing era of the Scottish Brotherhood, a few decades prior to 1296, it functioned as the nerve center through which passed the men and the information which made countering the Templars possible.<ref name = "Chapter 25"/> However, the Templars eventually found the location of the castle and decimated the clan in a great battle that took days and also left sections of the fort in ruins.<ref name = "Chapter 24"/> Sören, who had been away when the battle occured, was the last living member of the clan and inherited the castle.<ref name = "Chapter 25"/>
