Sensing familiarity with the scent, Yukinaga traveled to the Aga to begin his investigation, as well as to meet with merchants helping with his incense shipments. There, Yukinaga was visited by Naoe and Yasuke, who were investigating the scent as well. Yukinaga told the two of his familiarity with the scent that originated from Bizen, and his suspicions regarding the merchants hired by Naoie. At [[Kōfuku-ji]], Kojiro watched as the High Abbot Joken mediated over the peace talks between Junkei and [[Akiyama Ayako]], which led to little resolve. His presence soon caught the attention of Yasuke, who questioned his presence. Soon, they all witnessed Naoe stopping an [[assassination]] attempt and killing a rogue ''[[ashigaru]]'', which led to both the [[Tsutsui clan]] and [[Akiyama clan]] nearly fighting. Yasuke soon stopped them and accused one of them to be a traitor. Soon, Kojiro convinced Yasuke to attack the abbot, which led to Yasuke throwing a ''[[tantō]]'' at him. However, catching it with ease, Joken revealed his true nature before ordering all of their deaths, including Yasuke.<ref name="Darkness Falls">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[Darkness Falls]]</ref>

Fortunately, the clans, along with Naoe and Yasuke, managed to kill all of Joken's men, before the pair chased down and ultimately killed the abbot. In his last words, Joken heard the call of Kojiro beckoning him to the next life before dying. With the abbot's death, Kojiro garnered a victory over his old foe and peace talks could resume without any corrupting influence.<ref name="Darkness Falls"/> Naoe and Yasuke also managed to eliminate all the members of the Kurai Eikyou and spoke to their ally [[Fuyu]] at Ōmiwa Shrine, to which she mentioned their "friend" left a gift at their first meeting. In reality, the duel was meant to be an ambush to rid the land of Shōtei and bring southern Ōmi fully under Kagemitsu's control. However, the ambush was thwarted by the timely arrival of Nobunaga's former retainer [[Yasuke]], causing Yoshimitsu to urge his lord to retreat. Kagemitsu agreed and fled back to the castle with Yoshimitsu.<ref name="An Evening in Otsu"/>

Later on, Yasuke, alongside his allies [[Fujibayashi Naoe]], Shōtei, and [[Rokkaku Katsuhime]], launched an attack on Sakamoto to eliminate Kagemitsu and his followers. In 1582, Tetsuo joined a group of monks-turned-shrine raiders, who stole from the [[Temple of Osaka]] near the [[Fishermen's District]]. While the other raiders focused on valuables and relics, Tetsuo raided Yaya's own quarters within the temple and stole a ''{{Wiki|kanzashi}}'' belonging to her late husband. When the raiders failed to find anything valuable, Tetsuo and the group headed north to steal from the [[Church of Takatsuki]].
