Francesco was convinced that he would be the next Archbishop of [[Florence]], a bishop of high rank yet not of higher sacramental order than deacon or priest. Francesco was filled with rage and hatred when [[Lorenzo de' Medici]] stood in his way and swore his revenge against the [[House of Medici|Medici family]]. Seeking revenge for the denial of the Archbishop position, the opportunity arose for Francesco with the [[House of Pazzi|Pazzi]] conspirators. While his fellow conspirators attempted the murder of Lorenzo and [[Giuliano|his brother]], Francesco led his men into the city of Florence and began their assault. The fight eventually led to the death of [[Francesco de' Pazzi]] by the hands of the [[Assassins|Assassin]], [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze|Ezio Auditore]].<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" /><ref name="Assassin's Creed: Renaissance" />

While his Templar brothers fled, Francesco Salviati took his leave into the countryside of [[Italy]]. Francesco exchanged clothing with a farmer, who was hung, being mistaken for the fugitive. With himself barricaded inside his Villa, Francesco's fears were proven correct when the Assassin tracked him down. Ezio Auditore rapidly infiltrated the villa, and made his way past the villa's guards. Opening the gates, Ezio let in the [[mercenaries]] that were under the command of his [[Mario Auditore|uncle Mario]] and a battle ensued.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" /><ref name="Assassin's Creed: Renaissance" />

Blows were dealt between the two forces and words were exchanged between Ezio and Francesco; however, the former Archbishop was eventually taken down and killed. He revealed that the Templars would meet at night and that they suspected Ezio would find them. Before further information could be extracted, he succumbed to his injuries, and died.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" /><ref name="Assassin's Creed: Renaissance" />

==Personality and characteristics==
Francesco was an ambitious man, planning his life ahead and yearning for very high-profile positions in society such as being the Archbishop of Florence. While still the Archbishop of Pisa, this wish for greater power was a display of Salviati's greed and possibly a sign of early madness, believing that he could dominate two regions at the same time as Archbishop.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" />

His pride was clearly a weakness of his mind, having led him to joining the Templars. The moment that Francesco felt he had been betrayed by Lorenzo, his hurt pride led him down the path of the secret order and eventually to his death.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" /><ref name="Assassin's Creed: Renaissance" />

Though proud, ambitious and greedy, Francesco was no coward. He led soldiers into Florence upon the moment of the coup and fearlessly fought against Lorenzo's men until one of the members of the conspirators was displayed on the end of a rope, having been defeated and killed by an Assassin. Even as the man fled, he cunningly tricked a farmer into assuming his identity and defended himself against attackers behind the walls of his villa in Tuscany.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" />

To the moment of his death, Francesco Salviati fought alongside his hired soldiers and died bravely.<ref name="Assassin's Creed II" /><ref name="Assassin's Creed: Renaissance" />

Francesco wore a plain white tunic at the time of his death, along with serviceable blue trousers. He was always armed and ready for battle, particularly whilst defending himself from the Assassins in his villa. His hair was just above shoulder-length and deep black, the final ordinary part of his assemblance. *Historically, Archbishop Salviati was the main instigator of the conspiracy, not the Pazzi family. He was supposed to kill Gonfaloniere Petrucci and take hold of the [[Palazzo della Signoria]]. However, he was arrested by Petrucci, and hanged by a mob from the window of the Sala dei Duecento, next to Francesco de' Pazzi.

'''Girolamo Savonarola''' (1452 – 1498) was a Dominican friar and the leader of [[Florence]] from 1494 to 1498. Despite having great ambitions, most men found him lacking the ability to be a great leader.

In 1488, Savonarola managed to obtain the [[Ezio's Apple of Eden|Apple of Eden]]. Recognizing its powers, he used it to instigate the [[Bonfire of the Vanities]] in Florence; hoping to cleanse the city of everything he regarded as evil, such as art and wealth.

Savonarola was born in the city of [[Ferrara]], where, at a young age, he took a moral stance against the corrupt clergy present in [[Renaissance]] [[Italy]].

In 1475, Savonarola studied at Santo Spirito, and became a Dominican friar. In 1482, he was dispatched to Florence, which his Order considered to be the "city of his destiny". During the 1480s, he made little impression, and was often called a poor public speaker.

===Battle of Forlì===

A year later, in 1488, Savonarola resided in [[Forlì]] for some time, where he caught wind of the existence of the Apple of Eden after passing by the Orsi brothers, who were conversing with [[Caterina Sforza]]. He [[Eavesdropping|eavesdropped]] on them, and from then on, he kept a close eye on the Orsi pair.

By some means, [[Checco Orsi]] managed to take the Apple of Eden from Caterina, and fled with it out of Forlì. Though he was pursued and killed by [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]], he managed to stab the [[Assassins|Assassin]] in his lower abdomen, causing him to collapse.

After the King of [[France]] drove [[Piero de' Medici]] from Florence in 1494, Savonarola used the Apple he had stolen to take over Florence. After uniting the city under his banner, he began to destroy all Renaissance [[Art Merchants|art pieces]] and books, due to his desire to revert the city back to Medieval times.

When Pope [[Rodrigo Borgia|Alexander VI]], the [[Grand Master]] of the [[Templars|Templar Order]], found out that Savonarola had the Apple of Eden in his possession, he sent several [[Papacy|Papal]] troops to retrieve it, though with no success.

Meanwhile, Ezio Auditore returned to Florence in 1497, and worked with [[Niccolò Machiavelli]] to overthrow Savonarola, and retrieve the Apple of Eden.

Ezio concluded that Savonarola's rule was being enforced by his nine lieutenants, who were suppressing the Florentines. With this in mind, Ezio assassinated all nine of them, who had all been either lured into serving Savonarola, or were being controlled by the Apple.

Once this had been been achieved, his fellow Assassins [[La Volpe]] and [[Paola]] began to encourage the people to fight for themselves. Eventually, Savonarola's grip over Florence was lost.

In May of 1498, an angry mob gathered in front of Savonarola's residence at the [[Palazzo Pitti]] to stand up against him. In response, Savonarola tried to control the mob with the Apple of Eden, but Ezio threw a [[Throwing knives|knife]] at Savonarola's hand, which caused him to drop the artifact.

With Savonarola powerless, the mob took him away, and a Templar [[Agile guards|guard]] fled with the Piece of Eden. Ezio chased after and killed the guard, taking possession of the Apple again.<ref name="AC2 - Bonfire"/>

Savonarola was taken by the Florentine citizens to his execution: being burned alive at the [[Piazza della Signoria]]. In an act of mercy, Ezio decided that no one should die in such agony, and pushed through the crowd towards Savonarola. The Assassin then stabbed him in the neck with his [[Hidden Blade]] before the flames could reach him, ultimately ending his life.<ref name="AC2 - Bonfire"/>
