The Lairs of Romulus are secret locations featured in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that are similar to the Assassin's Tombs from Assassin's Creed II. Each lair houses a shrine to Romulus; each shrine contains a variety of a variety of treasures and a portion of a letter written by Marcus Junius Brutus. Attached to each letter is a key. There are six lairs in total, and obtaining all six keys will allow him to obtain the Armor of Brutus.

On the map of Rome, the Lairs of Romulus are marked by a black wolf symbol (representing the Followers of Romulus) and the actual Romulus treasure is marked on the map with an gold wolf symbol.

Lairs and locations
Palazzo Laterano - Inside one of the gardens.<br />
Cloaca Maxima / Terme di Diocleziano (Note: Ezio must completely repair the Aqueduct that leads into the terme to access this, as the entrance is situated high up in the wall of the initially empty terme. However, the entrance can also be accessed without repairing the Aqueduct by dropping over the ledge and climb-leaping into the archway.)<br />
Catacombe di Roma / Piramide Cestia.<br />
Terme di Traiano<br />
Colosseo - Ground level between the inner and outer walls.<br />
Basilica di San Pietro - Outside, near the staircase that leads to the inner garden.

These lair missions are side quests, as obtaining the Armor of Brutus is not required to complete the main story of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. There is an exception, however; the Lair of Romulus mission at the Terme di Traiano is a core memory and <u>must</u> be completed to move forward in the main story.
Description
While celebrating the Assassins' victory over Vieri de' Pazzi, Mario shows Ezio the Codex Wall. He tells him that the Codex is a journal written by a legendary Assassin named Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and that the Codex states the ways of their Creed. He explains that his brother attempted to obtain all of the pages, but with little success. Ezio, feeling that he needs to complete his father's work, decides to search for them during his quest for revenge. Ezio then goes to the only view point in Monteriggioni and synchronizes the map. He finds three codex pages within the town, and one out in the nearby countryside. Before showing his success to Mario, he meets up with his sister, who complains that she now has to deal with the Villa Auditore's banking accounts. She explains the banking and renovation system to Ezio, and mentions that the more he invests in Monteriggioni, the greater his income shall be. Ezio meets with the town architect, who explains how to renovate and says that his contributions will bring Monteriggioni back to its former glory. Ezio finally goes back to Mario, who hangs the four new Codex pages on the Wall before they go into the secret Sanctuary. There, Mario explains to Ezio that the sanctuary contains a very powerful set of armor that can only be unlocked by going through six secret Assassin's Tombs and obtaining six Assassin's Seals to unlock the gate mechanism. Ezio prepares himself for the journey for the Codex and the Armor and heads back to Florence.

Outcome
Ezio learns more about his father's goals as an Assassin. He is introduced to the renovation system, finds four more Codex pages and learns of the existence of the Sanctuary and the Armor of Altaïr.
Go to Leonardo da Vinci's workshop and you will recieve the poison blade. Al Mualim (Arabic: المعلم (The Teacher or The Master)), was the Grand Master of the Assassins Order's Syrian sect during the Third Crusade and mentor to his successor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. He secretly was a member of the Knights Templar.

Biography
Quest for the Chalice
In 1190 AD, Al Mualim tasked Altaïr to find the Chalice (revealed to be Adha) after he returned from another assignment. During this year, Al Mualim resided in Assassin's stronghold in Alep. His beard in this game is also much shorter and has a black color.

Later life
In 1191, Al Mualim sent Altaïr to retrieve a treasure beneath Solomon's Temple and bring it back to Masyaf. Altaïr brought along two fellow Assassins on his journey, Malik A-Sayf and his brother Kadar. Inside the temple, Altaïr broke one of the tenets of the Creed by killing the Old Man who was guarding the entrance. Once inside, Altaïr spotted the Grand Master of the Knight's Templar, Robert de Sable, entering the Temple with his guards. Altaïr broke another tenet by trying to assassinate Robert, but the Templar deflected his blow. In the following moments Robert and his guards attacked the Assassins, killing Kadar and Malik losing an arm. Altaïr managed to escape and return to Masyaf.

When Altaïr reported his failure to Al Mualim, he was angered, but his anger quickly turned to fury when Malik returned, bloody and wounded. Then to make matters worse, Robert and his Templars attacked Masyaf. Al Mualim kept Robert talking while Altaïr released a trap onto the Templars. Even though Altaïr saved Masyaf, Al Mualim demoted him from Master Assassin to Novice, removing most of his equipment and his authority at the order. Al Mualim decided to give Altaïr a chance to redeem himself, his rank, and authority in the brotherhood by sending him to kill nine men who were orchestrating events of the Third Crusade from both Christian and Muslim sides.

Altaïr traveled through the Holy Land, hunting and killing the men. After killing the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Robert de Sable, the dying Templar stated that Al Mualim was once a Templar himself. The treasure at Solomon's Temple was, in fact, a Piece of Eden and the Templars were planning to use its unimaginable power to control the minds of the population. However, Al Mualim didn't want to share that power.

Altaïr then returned hastily to Masyaf to find that the people in the city had been put under a hypnotic trance by Al Mualim, and that he and a few of his fellow Assassins were unaffected by the mind control, and made their way to the fortress. After reaching the stronghold, Altaïr confronted Al Mualim after discovering that his former Master had used the Piece of Eden retrieved from Solomon's Temple to control the populace of Masyaf.

After fighting nine guards changed into copies of his nine assassination targets by the Apple, and replicas of Al Mualim himself, Altaïr finally managed to plunge his hidden blade into Al Mualim, ending the cause of the hypnotic trance. As he died, the leader of the Assassins said that he did it all to ensure absolute peace in the world, and claimed that Altaïr, as him, would not be able to destroy the Piece of Eden. After his death Altaïr took his rank as the Grand Master Assassin of Masyaf.

Characteristics and personality
Al Mualim, though known for being a wise and soft-spoken leader, at times shows himself to be mysterious and unpredictable. He never talks about anything too personal or suspicious about himself, and always changes the subject or gives an unexpected answer when people start questioning him; Or as Altaïr says, "digging deeper". He shrouds not just his order, but himself in a great cover of secrecy; he reveals little about himself and almost nothing is known about his early life, let alone anything beyond his duty as the Master of the Assassins. Masyaf, a discreet city in the mountain that acts as the fortress and headquarters of the Syrian sect of the Assassin Order, is where Al Mualim spends most of his time studying.

By his efforts, the Order has become a well-known, yet obscure faction, inspiring fear and uncertainty throughout the land and spreading rumors that increase the already legendary reputation of the brotherhood. This has been accomplished by the murdering of important, and sometimes "unreachable" public figures, in both public and silent assassinations, which made men of power aware of the constant danger.

Al Mualim does not just stress political assassination but education as well. He has a thorough understanding and knowledge ranging from philosophy to science. This wisdom he employs constantly for the people of the Holy Land and his order. In addition to preaching the Creed as the only way to achieve the brotherhood's goal of peace in all things, he emphasizes that the Creed pushes for peace within as well, on one occasion advising Altaïr not to demonize his enemies: "Never harbor hate for your victims, for such things are poison...". The leader of the Assassins often employs his "children" as political warriors, directed to fight as the voice of the people throughout the Holy Land, suppressing those who use their power and influence to commit impious acts against society. He rewards success richly, but despises failure and doesn't abide traitors, being ironic since he is a traitor.

Appearance
Al Mualim is a middle-aged man in his 50s. In Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, Al Mualim has a short black beard. In Assassin's Creed, set one year after Altaïr's Chronicles, Al Mualim's beard is much longer and has grayed considerably. He wears the black robes of the Grand Master of the Assassin Order. He is also blind in one eye.

Final Words
(Al Mualim collapses. The Piece of Eden falls from his hand and rolls away).

Al Mualim: So it seems. You have won, then. Go and claim your prize.

Altaïr: You held fire in your hand, old man. It should have been destroyed!

Al Mualim: Destroy the only thing capable of ending the Crusades and creating true peace?! Never!

Altaïr: Then I will!

Al Mualim: We'll see about that...

Trivia
* Al Mualim is likely based upon a real life figure named Rashid ad-Din Sinan, a.k.a. The Old Man of the Mountain, who led the Syrian Assassins and died within Assassin's Creed's time-line. However, this is unconfirmed.
* Despite being Grand Master of the Assassins, Al Mualim appears to have all ten fingers. The same is true of all other Assassins in the game, apart from Altaïr.
* In Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, set one year before the events of the original game, Al Mualim appears to be much younger, with a short black beard. He also wears different clothes, and his name is often spelt in dialogue as Al-Mualim.
* He is around his 50s during the events of the first game.
* When he teleports around the field and decreases your sync bar, you can easily distract him with a throwing knife and move in for the kill.
*When he first attacks in the game, Altaïr can easily run up a wall and then drop down, assassinating Al Mualim with the hidden blade, or by simply countering him when he first swings his sword.
*In the Penny Arcade Assassin's Creed comic, the target that Altaïr hunts implies that some Assassins, including Altaïr, were fathered by Al Mualim. This is shown when he tells Altaïr, "For I think I see his (Al Mualim's) face in yours." However, no evidence is given to relate any such connection between Altaïr and Al Mualim; in the Codex in Assassin's Creed II, Altaïr's parents are referred to separately from Al Mualim.
*There seems to be a pattern in the Assassin's Creed series where the mentors of the primary Assassins are blind in one eye. Just as Al Mualim, mentor of Altaïr, is blind is his right eye, Mario Auditore, mentor of Ezio Auditore, is blind in his left eye.
*Al Mualim also shares a trait with a future Templar, Rodrigo Borgia, as they both never have their heads uncovered throughout the entirety of their respective games. They also have a similarity in the robes that they wear.
*Despite betraying the Assassin Order, Al Mualim appears blue in eagle vision until his battle against Altaïr.
Desmond Miles (born 1987) is the main protagonist of the main installments in the Assassin's Creed series and the descendant of a long line of ancestors who swore their allegiance to the Assassin Order. He is initially forced to use a machine, called the Animus, created by Abstergo Industries – the modern front of the Templars – to relive the memories of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Crusader era, in their quest to locate the "Apple", a Piece of Eden.

Eventually escaping with the aid of modern day Assassins, Desmond once again uses an Animus (the improved Animus 2.0) to explore the memories of another ancestor of his, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, so as to learn the ways of the Assassins much faster than normal.

Biography
Early life
Desmond Miles was born in an Assassin "hideout" in the desert known as "The Farm", an "off the grid" compound with a population of about thirty people, much like the city of Masyaf, where he was destined to be trained as an Assassin. He was frustrated by his parents' explicit instructions not to leave the compound, and believed them to be overly concerned and paranoid. On his 16th birthday, he finally fled, "wanting to see the rest of the world." He later told Lucy Stillman that he had no regrets over leaving his parents, because as far as he was concerned, they were little more than his "wardens", and to him the Farm was his "prison". After leaving the Assassin compound, he went into hiding for nine years. While keeping a low profile, he eventually became a bartender. Aware of the Templars, and wanting to avoid both them and the Assassins, Desmond never used his real name and used only cash to purchase items. However, he was eventually found, traced through a fingerprint needed for a motorcycle license, and was brought to the Abstergo laboratory.

Kidnapped by Abstergo
I'm not an Assassin... not any more.

In September 2012, Desmond Miles was kidnapped by Abstergo Industries, a pharmaceutical company and front for the Templars, for use as a test subject in the Animus, a device that can read the memories of Desmond's ancestors through the "genetic memory" left behind in their descendants' DNA. At first, Warren Vidic attempted to pry the information he wanted from Desmond's mind, but was met with failure. Whilst Desmond claimed to be nothing more than a bartender, Vidic revealed that they knew of his history as an Assassin, forcing Desmond to finally admit his past life. Vidic and Lucy Stillman told Desmond that they were trying to access a certain memory, but Desmond's subconscious was resisting their efforts. Vidic warned Desmond that if he refused to assist them, they would induce a coma, continue their work, and when done with Desmond, leave him to die. Without much choice, Desmond agreed to help them.

Desmond was made to explore the genetic memories of his ancestor Altaïr – a member of a clan of Assassins active during and after the Crusades, specifically Altaïr's experiences during the year 1191 – and does so over several days under the watchful eye of Vidic. During the nights however, Desmond discovered that he was able to explore the lab he was being held in, accessing the Animus computer and, after stealing Warren Vidic's pen, gaining access to his personal computer. Through e-mails, Desmond learned of the previous Animus subject, Subject 16, who had suffered from a "bleeding effect" due to prolonged exposure to the Animus, as well as tidbits of information from the outside world. Eventually, with the aid of Lucy, the Assassins learned of Desmond's capture and attempted to liberate him, with the gunfire of their assault being heard through an intercom device, although the rescue attempt failed. Vidic boasts that those Assassins were in fact the last of the group he escaped from at 16; their desert hideout having been previously destroyed. Lucy's actions, however, suggested otherwise, and when Desmond asked if Lucy knew anything about his parents, she responded by saying that she didn't know, but that they "probably escaped." During this discussion, Lucy revealed herself to be an undercover member of the Assassins. Desmond eventually achieved Vidic's goal and discovered the location of numerous Pieces of Eden. Executives of Abstergo Industries then ordered his execution, but his life was saved by Lucy's intervention, who asked to keep Desmond alive in order to re-access his memories if need be. After the executives leave, Desmond suddenly accesses the "eagle vision" of his ancestor Altaïr, seeing Vidic and Lucy for their true allegiances, as well as countless scrawled messages and puzzles on the floor of the main laboratory.

Escape to the Hideout
Wait! Why aren't I following Altaïr? Oh, shit...
After having spent some time alone in the laboratory, Lucy suddenly arrived, covered in blood and demanding Desmond to get into the Animus before Abstergo would discover what she'd done. Desmond, rather confused, agreed and managed to sync with the closest genetic match between himself and Subject 16 recorded in the Animus’ memory core. Inside the Animus, he experienced the birth of another of his ancestors, Ezio Auditore. He instantly got pulled out, though, and both make their escape.

They were quickly spotted by Abstergo security and after Lucy locked a door to keep the security guards from getting to them, they turned the corner and were forced into an engagement with two more which Lucy quickly ended, allowing them to continue on stealthily. The two soon entered a glass elevator that led down to a large open room filled with office blocks that housed a large number of Animi. Following Lucy through the maze-like walkways between the Animi to avoid the guards patrolling the room they stealthily made their way through to the back, although Desmond's questions about the Animi are met with silence and Lucy telling him to "shut the fuck up...please." Upon reaching the keycode locked door of another elevator, Lucy tried to enter a code but failed, to which Desmond instinctively called upon his recently activated Eagle Vision to see the code and after successfully entering it. Lucy questions Desmond about how he knew what code to enter, which he could not give a proper answer, showing his obliviousness to the Bleeding Effect as they safely entered the elevator and rode it down. Once in the car park underneath the building, the two were halted by yet more of Abstergo's guards, but were able to overcome them and escape.

Arriving at one of the Assassins' hideouts, Desmond was introduced to two more Assassins – Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane – who have worked with Lucy over the years. Lucy told Desmond that they wanted him to become trained in the ways of the Assassin – thanks to the bleeding effect, they could achieve this in a matter of days – although it required him learning the ways of an Assassin through the ancestor that Desmond had synched with Subject 16 to find in Abstergo's Animus, Ezio Auditore. Desmond agrees to help almost immediately, which surprised Lucy, and was quickly plugged in the Animus 2.0.

After learning the ways of the Assassin through Ezio's memories, Desmond was retracted from the Animus, partly to test his retention of the memories, but also to prevent the mental degradation that Subject 16 had suffered from being in the Animus for an extended period of time.

Tasking him with initiating security protocols around the Assassin hideout, Lucy left it to Desmond to work out how to reach them through the use of his Eagle Vision and new-found free running skills. Just as he began, however, he started suffering vivid hallucinations of the Crusader era and the Italian Renaissance. At first the visions were short, and were nothing to worry about, but after completing the task, Desmond was incapacitated as the visions became more real.

Taken back to medieval Acre by the bleeding effect, Desmond once again followed the memories of Altaïr, this time without the use of the Animus, and discovered Altaïr and Maria Thorpe conceived a child, Desmond's next ancestor after Altaïr.

The next day, Desmond had recovered from the experiences and returned to the Animus, neglecting to tell the Assassins what had happened. He continued to watch the genetic memories of Ezio Auditore, despite at one time being thrown out by &quot;corrupted memory sequences&quot;. Eventually, they learned that Ezio's nemesis, Rodrigo Borgia (Grand Master of the Templar Order), had become Pope Alexander VI in 1492 so as to gain access to yet another Piece of Eden, the Papal Staff, as well as the Vault. As Ezio's story began to conclude, Desmond and the Assassins watched deep within the Vault beneath the Vatican. Ezio found himself confronted by a "god" hologram who called herself Minerva; Minerva warns the Assassins of the end of the world, as well as retelling the story of the war between "Those Who Came Before," and their human subjects. The Assassins are shocked when Minerva addresses Desmond by name, confusing even Ezio, and it is revealed that Minerva was in fact talking to Desmond through Ezio. Mere moments after, Desmond was quickly pulled out of the Animus, and upon seeing the three rushing to collect their belongings, realized that the Templars had found their location.

Immediately after getting out of the Animus, Lucy tossed Desmond a Hidden Blade with the Assassin's emblem on it, and asks for his assistance in covering the escape. Making their way into the warehouse, Vidic appeared, flanked by Abstergo security officials with the intent of reclaiming Desmond. The two Assassins killed the Templars that assaulted them, with Desmond – now fully synchronized with Ezio – masterfully using his Hidden Blade to kill many of the guards himself. With his entourage eliminated, Vidic was left to confront Desmond on his own, but instead retreats, promising that their victory is only temporary. The four Assassins then fled north, and Desmond is hooked up to the Animus inside the van and told to continue to search through his memories for anything useful. Meanwhile, the other Assassins begin to discuss the nature of Minerva and her talk.

Monteriggioni
After the Abstergo attack at the end of Assassin's Creed II, the modern day Assassins traveled to Monteriggioni in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood to set up their new base. The Templars were actively searching for them and were analyzing the environment using cell phone towers, so they had to set up underground, in the Sanctuary under the Villa Auditore. Whilst searching the grounds of the Villa Auditore for a way into the Sanctuary, Desmond – through the bleeding effect – saw a vision of Ezio in the past, who led him to a high, narrow ledge and leaped off. Desmond immediately followed suit, performing his first-ever Leap of Faith into a pile of hay. Desmond and Lucy made their way to the Sanctuary underground via a tunnel used by Ezio and the villagers of Monteriggioni to escape after the attack. As they passed through the tunnels, Desmond saw more visions of Ezio and the villagers escaping, which worried him, making him wonder what would happen "if (he) can't stop the visions – how long until (he) started painting symbols on the walls." Lucy scolded him, telling him not to make light of his condition, and reminded him that Subject 16 was dead, and that he needed to focus. Desmond and Lucy used glow sticks to see in the tunnel, due to the lack of power. By this time, Desmond wore a Hidden Blade with three straps attaching it to his arm, although he wore no bracer with it.

When the two reached the Sanctuary, Desmond saw another vision of Ezio, who seemed to have visited it in his old age. Before he opened the door to Mario's office, Desmond noticed the numbers 1419, 1420, and 1421 written on the walls, which he pointed out to the other Assassins. Shaun theorized the numbers to refer to dates, however he admitted that he needed to do further research. After the team set up underground, Desmond became in charge of bringing electricity into the Sanctuary by inserting a device of Rebecca's construction into four electrical power boxes, that would allow them to accumulate small amounts of power from each source. After that, he continued with his regular Animus sessions.

After finishing in the Animus, Desmond and the others learned that the Apple of Eden was hidden under the Colosseum. Upon traveling to Rome, the group separated as Desmond then tried to find a way for the others to get inside the Colosseum without needing to climb. Once they met up again, Desmond activated an elevator that took all of them down to the Apple's chamber. However, as he takes the Apple of Eden from its pedestal, Juno's voice is heard, saying that Desmond's DNA had activated the Apple. Juno then took control of Desmond's body, and forced him to stab Lucy in the abdomen with his hidden blade.

As Desmond starts to go into shock, he is returned into the Animus by two men of unknown affiliation whose voices can merely be heard.

Characteristics and personality
Desmond has an uncanny resemblance to both Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, being the descendant of the two. Although they have very little in common about their personalities. Being a discreet individual, he does not wear extravagant clothing, and is accustomed to a white hooded jacket, jeans, and black sneakers. Interestingly, if raised, the hood exhibits a beak-like feature similar to Ezio's and Altaïr's.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, his attire differs drastically. He now wears a white hooded jacket with a red collar (though it no longer has an eagle beak-like hood), with a black shirt sporting an image of an eagle underneath. His sleeves are rolled up to reveal a black, tribal tattoo where the Hidden Blade should be. He is also equipped with a sling backpack, and a hidden blade without a bracer.

Desmond was a gruff and cynical individual, who held a serious outlook on life. This was mainly due to him being aware of the Templars and Assassins since his youth, although he was initially unaware of Abstergo Industries being a Templar company. Despite this, he was not above jesting about his situation, and would occasionally make jokes, although they rarely elicited a good reaction. After his emancipation from Abstergo, Desmond's demeanor became considerably more relaxed, and he spent a noticeable amount of time conversing with Lucy. After experiencing the bleeding effect, he is more doubtful of his sanity, as with what happened to Subject 16.

Equipment and skills
Being that Desmond was trained during childhood as an Assassin, he was proficient in basic reconnaissance skills, such as eavesdropping and pickpocketing. After about a week of being forced to relive the memories of his ancestor, Altaïr, Desmond began to experience the bleeding effect, and developed an extra-sensory ability called Eagle Vision. Later on, after willingly exploring the memories of his other ancestor, Ezio, Desmond learned how to free-run and use weapons. Not long afterwards, he was able to easily fend off a Templar attack with Ezio's combat skills.

Since synchronizing with Ezio, Desmond has been able to use all of the skills and abilities his ancestors could in real life.

Trivia
*He is modeled after Francisco Randez and voiced by Nolan North. Curiously, Randez also used to be a bartender before he became a model. This may have inspired the makers of the game to give Desmond the same profession.
*Desmond possesses the same scar on his lip as his ancestors Altaïr and Ezio had, though how he acquired it is unknown.
*Desmond and Altaïr share the same age during the first game, both being 25 years of age in 2012 and 1191 respectively.
*Desmond is a descendant of Those Who Came Before and humans. Proof of this is his Eagle Vision, product of the unification of those two races, which also led to the birth of the first "Assassins", Adam and Eve.
*Desmond has an A+ blood type.
*Desmond's history shows that he never wanted to be an Assassin, nor does he have the skills yet before the second game to be one. However in the graphic novel, included with the limited edition of Assassin's Creed, he does call himself an Assassin, and shows skills of stealth and lethality.
*Desmond acquires a Hidden Blade at the conclusion of Assassin's Creed II. The original owner of the blade is uncertain, but its bracer is identical to the one Ezio Auditore inherited from his father, Giovanni Auditore.
*The etymology of Desmond's name "the world" (or "man of the world" in Celtic) is not related to either of his ancestors, whereas Altaïr's and Ezio's names pertain to avians; Altaïr's being "the flying one" and Ezio's "eagle." His surname "Miles" is also the Latin word for "soldier." The name suits him, however, as he wanted to leave his parents' watchful eyes to see the rest of the world outside the compound, and refers to his role in saving the world from destruction.
*Should the player achieve full synchronization in sequence 8 of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Desmond will appear as a playable skin in the Animus. The Animus states that the Desmond body was uploaded from the Animus memory banks. Despite only wearing one bracer, double kills are still possible.
*Interacting with the statue of Altaïr in the Sanctuary at any point in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will trigger Desmond to say "Hey, wassa-matta-you, Altaïr?", followed by Rebecca reprimanding him for being racist.
*In early images of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Desmond is seen with a beard identical to Ezio's. It is unknown why the beard was present then, and later removed.
*Despite being equipped with a hidden blade throughout Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Desmond only uses it twice; the first in the Auditore Family Crypt, to lower a platform for Lucy, and in the Santa Maria Aracoeli Vault, to stab Lucy.
*During the beginning of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, when Desmond and Lucy are traversing the secret entrance to the Vault, the two will engage in a brief argument as to how to cross a ledge. Demond suggests that one of them gives the other a boost into the air to reach the ledge, however Lucy refuses. This is a reference to the game Uncharted 2 in which the protagonist Drake, who is also voiced by Nolan North, must often launch his female companions with a boost to get around certain obstacles. Later, Lucy and Desmond also begin using a catapult jumping technique exactly like that seen in Uncharted 2 to cross gaps in the path.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, if you look closely at Desmond's jacket, you can see what appear to be the wings of an eagle stitched on his back.
*At the end of Assassin's Creed II, Desmond is able to perform the climb-leap ability, but in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood this ability is removed.
Maria Thorpe was an English woman who impersonated one of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's assassination targets, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Robert de Sable, during the Third Crusade. Not being in favor with de Sable's successor, Armand Bouchart, Maria was abandoned by the Knights Templar, and forced to find asylum with her enemies, the Assassins.

Following her and Altaïr's travels in Cyprus, the two settled down together and Maria bore him at least two sons, one of which would be a direct ancestor of the Assassins Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Desmond Miles and the mysterious "Subject Sixteen".

Biography
Early life
In her youth, Maria chose not to follow the norm for women of her age and instead she chose to act and dress as a male would. Because of this, she was often pestered as a child and punished by her parents. Before the start of the Third Crusade, her parents forced her to marry, however it ended a little more than a year after. This disgrace, combined with Maria's own dreams of honor and glory, persuaded her to leave England behind, and join the Crusaders in the Holy Land. It was uncommon for women to participate in combat during the time so Maria disguised herself as a man to partake in the holy quest. Maria showed much promise amongst the Crusaders and attracted the attention of Robert de Sable. Despite learning her true gender, Robert supported her and even appointed Maria to be his personal steward. Although she did not share her Master's beliefs, Maria respected Robert enough to do anything for him, including dying if she had to.

Impersonation
I sense you expected someone else

Following the deaths of eight of the Nine in 1191, at the hands of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Robert correctly reasoned that he was next on the Assassin's list. Not one to be defeated, Robert publicly announced his intention to attend the funeral of the late Regent of Jerusalem, Majd Addin, as a show of mutual cooperation and respect between Muslim and Crusader. Privately, the Templar Grand Master knew this would be a chance too great for the assassin to pass up.

Maria was left to take Robert's place at the funeral, a decoy for Altaïr. As expected, the assassin appeared during the funeral procession. Maria carefully examined the mass and managed to spot him. She signalled the funeral proctor of Altaïr's presence and great number of Templars were ordered to seize him. Altaïr overpowered the soldiers and in the end grasped Maria to remove her helm. Altaïr was greatly shocked that it was a woman he fought and questioned it as sorcery. Maria corrected him that it was not and she was in Robert's place as a distraction. She admitted that his brotherhood's success of taking the treasure and eradicating her comrades did not go unnoticed and told him that Robert was to propose a truce between the Saracen and Crusader armies to besiege Masyaf through the evidence of her and the other Templar's deaths. Altaïr corrected her by deciding to spare her life and warned her not follow him. Out of her confusion, Maria replied haughtily that she did not need to and it was futile of him to try stopping Robert before she fled the city.

In Cyprus
A month after Altaïr defeated Al Mualim, Maria's Templar rank dropped considerably and was disallowed travel to Cyprus with the Templars. She confronted Altaïr after the assault on the Acre harbor where the two of them engaged in another sword fight. Altaïr bested her and interrogated her about the Templars' plans for Cyprus. Afterwards, Altaïr took Maria prisoner and brought her with him on the journey to Cyprus, hoping to use her as leverage to lure other Templars out into the open.

The two of them traveled to Limassol, where they met with the assassin contact, Alexander. Maria was escorted and kept at the resistance safe house, but escaped following an ambush by Templars, during which the building was set on fire. Maria hurried to warn the Grand Master of the Templars, Armand Bouchart of Altaïr's presence in Limassol, but Bouchart, being suspicious of Maria's two "miraculous" escapes from the assassins and equal distrust of women, sentenced her to be locked away in prison. Maria was led away by two Templar guards only to be saved by Altaïr. After his recovery of her, she vowed to kill him, but Altaïr reasoned with her, noting that the best way to buy back into the Templar's favor was not by his head, but by her recovery of the Apple of Eden.

Altaïr took Maria along with him on the ship to Kyrenia. Whilst on the ship, Altaïr spoke to her about the philosophy of Empedocles – that "only a mind free of impediments is capable of grasping the chaotic beauty of the world." Although Maria resisted his ideology, she did take interest in it, asking curiously as to whether being able to see this "chaotic beauty" was truly something to be celebrated. In turn, Altaïr admitted to hardship imposed upon human beings as a result of freedom; but, he maintained that "the order and peace the Templar seek requires servility and imprisonment," a statement with which the captive Maria took some irony.

As the two prepared to disembark, Altaïr cut the rope binding Maria's wrists so that she might climb the ladder to the upper deck; at the same time, the two were recognized by the pirates who had ferried them there. Maria, hands free, used the opportunity to kick Altaïr down the ladder to face their attackers so that she might escape. However, she too was attacked by other members of the large crew, and was helped to safety by Markos. Because of his honesty and their common dislike of Templars, Altaïr entrusted him with Maria's care, and asked him to look after her. Altaïr learned during his investigations that "the bull" – his target – had posted large bounties, not only for him, but for Maria as well. Fearing for her safety, he rushed to the harbor, where he found she and Markos being attacked by Templars. After rescuing them, Altaïr brought them to the Kyrenia safehouse.

Maria, her wrists once again bound, mocked Altaïr's crude plan for killing "the bull" – whom she knew as Moloch – and inadvertently ended up giving away his position in Kantara Castle. By the time Altaïr returned from killing him, Maria had already been taken away by Templar agents, who raided the safe house in his absence. Maria was given by Moloch to his son Shalim, and separated from the resistance members, and from Altaïr's attempts to rescue her.

Maria escaped from Shalim, and headed to Saint Hilarion Castle disguised as a consort to sneak in via palanquin. On her arrival, she confronted Shahar in his private room and demanded to know about the Templars' plan for the Apple of Eden; Shahar stated that the Templars will achieve order at any means necessary, even if that "order" becomes synonymous with enslavement. Shahar grabbed her by her wrists, as if to subdue her, but was interrupted as Altaïr burst in upon them, looking for Shalim. Maria killed his two pursuers as if by impulse, but refused to fight beside or ally herself with him, and fled.

How Maria traveled from Kyrenia back to Limassol is unknown. Altaïr traveled back alone, and carried on without her for a short time. But, following his use of the Apple of Eden to quiet the rioting townspeople, it was Maria who killed the mysterious Templar agent, who was intent to steal it back, by stabbing him through the back. Although she remained adamantly distrusting of the righteousness of his motives, she led him to the Templar Archive hidden under Limassol Castle.

Maria engaged Armand Bouchart in combat. However, Bouchart was an extremely skilled fighter and hurled Maria back, knocking her unconscious. After Altaïr defeated Bouchart, the two of them managed to flee the archives. She then told him that she no longer wanted to be part of the Templars or wish to return to England, but decided to go somewhere in the East. In Altaïr's last journal entry, it is revealed that he decided to travel with her.

Later life
Whoa... Alright, wasn't expecting that...
Maria was romantically involved with Altaïr after the events of Cyprus and justifies how Altaïr's line of descent supposedly assimilated from the Fertile Crescent to Europe. Sometime in her life Maria led Altaïr to chase after her where the two of them meet atop a high tower in the fortress that used to belong to William of Montferrat in the southwestern corner of the rich district of Acre. She removed her hood to reveal her identity, and suggestively beckoned him to come. Altaïr complied as the two kissed and eventually made love. The encounter resulted in the conception of a son, who was Desmond's next ancestor. In the codex pages, Altaïr revealed that he and Maria had at least two sons, one of whom attempted, at some point in his life, to assassinate Genghis Khan of Mongolia.

Characteristics and personality
At an early age, Maria was a bit of a dreamer, thinking about leaving England to find honor and glory in the Holy Land. During the time, she showed characteristics of stubbornness, refusing to become a lady as her wanderlust only became stronger to leave her homeland.

She is a very determined person with a great passion to accomplish more within the Templar ranks. During their first encounter, Maria presented a straightforward, merciless style of command when confronted with Altaïr and acted out as arrogant and overconfident regarding Robert's cause.

After the events in Cyprus, her harsh and stubborn attitude around Altaïr became open and civil, presumably sided with him and the Assassins afterwards.

In Assassin's Creed II, she presents a provocative side when she led Altaïr up the viewpoint tower where she beckoned him to kiss and eventually make love with her. clear

Equipment and skills
Maria is highly trained in swordsmanship as she was able to counter and avoid Altaïr's attacks when confronted against him.

In Assassin's Creed II, she performed limited free running skills during Desmond's bleeding effect dream.

"Final words" in Assassin's Creed
Altaïr: I would see your eyes before you die.

(Altaïr rips off the helm, only to see Maria's face).

Maria: I sense you expected someone else.

Altaïr: What sorcery is this?!

Maria: No sorcery, we knew you'd come. Robert needed to be sure he'd have time to get away.

Altaïr: So he flees!?

Maria: We cannot deny your success. You have laid waste to our plans: first, the treasure, then our men. Control of the Holy Land slipped away, but then he saw an opportunity, to reclaim what has been stolen, to turn your victories to our advantage!

Altaïr: Al Mualim still holds your treasure, and we've routed your army before! Whatever Robert plans, he'll fail again!

Maria: Ah, but it's not just Templars you'll contend with now!

Altaïr: Speak sense!

Maria: Robert rides for Arsuf to plead his case, that Saracen and Crusader unite... against the Assassins!

Altaïr: That will never happen! They have no reason to!

Maria: Had, perhaps. But now you've given them one: nine, in fact. The bodies you've left behind, victims on both sides. You've made the Assassins an enemy in common and ensured the annihilation of your entire order! Well done!

Altaïr: Not nine, eight.

Maria: (confused) What do you mean?

Altaïr: You are not my target. I will not take your life. You're free to go, but do not follow me!

Maria: I don't need to. You're already too late!

Altaïr: We'll see.

Trivia
* Her name is a Latin derivative of Mary. The origin of the name Mary is a reference in the Latin phrase "Stella maris" meaning "star of the sea" or from the prefix Mar meaning "bitter". Other possible meanings are derived from Miryam meaning "wished for child, rebellious, or sea of bitterness" in Hebrew, or Merry meaning "cherished or beloved" in Egyptian.
** Her surname means "village" in Old Norse and is the name of various English villages.
Maria's weapon is labeled as "Maria Thorpe's Longsword." This is the first mention of her surname.
*Maria is around her early 30s during Assassin's Creed, making her around five years older than Altaïr.
The Assassins' Bureau is an Assassin-controlled safehouse located in each of the three main cities featured in Assassin's Creed. It serves as safe haven for Assassins (such as Altaïr) before and after assassinations.

Characteristics
The Assassins' Bureau is basically a safehouse for Assassin Instructors in the field, and the Assassin's Order in general. The Bureau's leader provides you with useful hints on where to obtain information on assassination targets. Once you have collected all the required information (and it is possible to do so before entering the Bureau), the leader provides you with a feather that appears to be one of the primary flight feathers of a white eagle, which is yet another nod towards the resemblance that Altaïr shares with the birds. This feather, referred to as a marker, is used to give proof of a successful assassination, by staining it with the blood of the target.

The entrance of the Assassins' Bureau is located on the roof, probably to reduce the chances of outsiders wandering in out of curiosity. This entrance will be closed when your current social status is exposed, to prevent guards from discovering the Bureau and subsequently violating the Creed (to never bring attention to the Assassin's Order). The Assassin Bureau is a place where they also make swords, blades and other useful equipment, enabling Altaïr to restock on throwing knives here. Just before assassinations, the Bureau can also be used for Assassins to physically and mentally prepare.

Building
The exterior of the building is that of a normal construction, although it doesn't have any obvious windows or doors. The entrance is located on the roof, which can be reached by either climbing the walls or via a ladder located in an entry alley.

The inside is divided into only two rooms:

Main Chamber
The entrance to the Bureau, the Main Chamber is a small living area comprised of two fountains and several pillows. This place is intended for an Assassin to rest before and after assassinations, allowing them to wait for the appropriate moment to strike, or for the dust to settle after an assassination.

The walls are decorated with hanging carpets and the Assassin's Crest, while the ground has potted plants, pillows, and more carpets.

The ceiling is grated, with an opening that serves as an entrance into the Bureau. When the city is on alert, the opening is closed with a grated panel.

Bureau Leader's Room
Similar to a store, the leader's chamber is adjacent to the Main Chamber. From behind a stand, the leader addresses those who come to speak with him, while also studying and attending to the needs of the Assassins' operations in that respective city.

Behind the desk are bookshelves and closets, where registries of the missions are kept. The books and scrolls the Leader has access to are also located in this area. Across the room, a raised walkway holds weapons and books, things that may help with the carrying out of a mission.

All assassinations missions must begin at this room, since the leader is the one who provides the feather for a marked target.

Abstergo Industries is one of the largest multinational corporations in the world by the year 2012, serving as a front for the Templar Order. They are the employers of Dr. Warren Vidic and Lucy Stillman, the captors of Desmond, and the company that funds the Animus.

Even though Abstergo is outwardly labeled as a company working in the field of Medicine and Science, Dr. Vidic boasts of their accomplishments in fields beyond these; going so far as to claim their involvement in every huge progressive movement within last millennium. He claims that either Abstergo or its predecessors were responsible for every scientific accomplishment for the last 1,000 years, though Abstergo chooses who gets credit for the accomplishments very carefully. However, these achievements are not purely of their doing, as when Desmond asks who created the Animus' technology, Dr. Vidic cryptically replies with "Those Who Came Before."

Desmond discovers Abstergo's identity as the modern-day embodiment of the Knights Templar while being held at their laboratory. He does so after reading several e-mails, particularly one viewable in the conference room, wherein Alan Rikkin writes to Vidic: "May the Father of Understanding guide you to success," a phrase long used by the Templar Order.

Abstergo has also been hunting the last of the Assassins left in the world, hoping to end their enemies' way of life, thus eliminating any chance of their own failure. Vidic's e-mail reveals Abstergo and Assassin presence in many events throughout history, such as the Tunguska event. The emails also discuss the Philadelphia Incident, in which the USS Eldridge (which was stationed in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard) was allegedly rendered invisible for several seconds, and sent forward in time. Experiments with the artifact related to this incident were halted, with Abstergo citing concern about paradoxes.

Mitchell-Hedge's communicators are also mentioned, along with an abstract reference to the 13 Incan Crystal Skulls that were supposedly discovered by the gentleman adventurer of the same name in the 1920's. New Age theorists state that the Crystal Skulls enable telepathy between their wielders, and therefore, the term "communicators" implies that Abstergo either has these skulls or is able to communicate using them. This communication is likely also undetectable by any modern-day Assassin.

Through the e-mails, we learn that Abstergo is being investigated for something called "New Fluoride," which they tested on an isolated community, were caught, and are currently being held in suspicion because of it. This is the reason behind the December 21, 2012 launch of their Eye-Abstergo communications satellite, as afterwards, they risk being immobilized by having their assets frozen. The 12/21/2012 launch is also significant, as it marks the end of the Mayan Long Count, 12th baktun cycle - the date set by many to be the end of the world.

Abstergo was also involved in an accident under the Denver International Airport, at Abstergo's satellite manufacturing (and possibly launch) facility. E-mails show that a member of the project apparently went insane, using the Apple present to kill almost everyone at the facility, ultimately destroying himself and the Piece. This loss caused Abstergo to capture Desmond Miles, in order to search for a replacement Piece.

Products
Vidic mentions that Abstergo invents everything to enhance everyday life, and it is also stated by Lucy that they produce anti-depressants. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were past Abstergo employees, making Abstergo responsible for popularizing the assembly line and electricity. During World War II, the Atomic Bomb's creation was directly linked to Abstergo, with "O" (J. Robert Oppenheimer) being given the go ahead by an unnamed Abstergo employee.

Past history of the company
In July 22, 1944, an unknown member of the company sent out a memo to fellow members. They mentioned using the assembly line to control both capitalists and workers, and credited Ransom "Ranny" Olds and Henry Ford for its creation. This person further added that they hoped that in the future, the company would not have to use such "ugly chains". They mention that Abstergo's founders designed the "Plan" in 1910. This individual also brought up the Communists and said it was Abstergo's duty to save them (neutralize) and their followers. The reasons given were that they were to be allowed to eat and to reproduce. They furthers elaborates on Abstergo's goals, stating to his fellow Templars that their duty was to "shepherd those beneath us through life, even if force is required". The unknown member mentioned other Templars known only by the initials "H." and "S." (Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin) who brought on the "turmoil and fear". Towards the end of this memo, they brought up the "successful ruse of Rockefeller's dimes". . This information was hidden by Subject 16 for Desmond Miles to find.

Abstergo was responsible for British mathematician Alan Turing's criminal prosecution and possibly his death. In a phone recording dating to June 1954. Also hidden by Subject 16, two Templars only known by the initials "V." and "N." mention the need for Turing to be arrested. They feared "mass employment" if the mathematician did ended up creating a computer. The two men also mentioned American economist and senior U.S.A. Treasury Department official Harry Dexter White.

In the 1970s, Abstergo involved itself in the economic and political affairs of Iran, Argentina, and Chile. This information was also revealed to Desmond by Subject 16 via a company memo hidden in a glyph. This memo on the subject of South America stated that "to ensure company's success, company agents must be able to move freely from country to country and maintain power within all of them. A global international order must be implemented".

In Argentina, the memo tells members to inform capitalists that if they helped ensure that the junta stays in power. Abstergo will pass all their corporate debt onto the Argentine people, thus quelling any attempts of popular revolt. The person who wrote the memo also added that they wanted trade unions there to be destroyed. The actions of Abstergo likely contributed to the disappearance of at least 30,000 Argentinian people in the 1970s .

In neighboring Chile, Abstergo wanted the free markets to proceed. The memo mentioned a templar known by the initial F. who visited the country last year, thus helping things along. The memo went on to state that all public companies need to be sold to the private sector, preferably at a cheap price. The price of bread and other staples must rise, therefore ensuring that the Chilean people remain in poverty and being unable to resist. Abstergo's efforts ended up thwarting President Salvador Allende's efforts to allow the people to own Chile's corporations, which ended with his suicide in 1973. This helped future dictator Augusto Pinochet to assume power. Abstergo escaped detection because it deliberately hid its involvement and implicated the U.S. government .

In Iran, Abstergo backed monarch Shah Pahlavi, Shaban Jafari, and the National Intelligence and Security Organization, otherwise known as SAVAK, against democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. This resulted in Mosaddegh being overthrown in 1953 and dying under house arrest in 1967.
*In the concept art for The Vault, what looks like the Abstergo logo can be seen on the floor of the circular room in which Ezio fights Rodrigo.
*Abstergo's Animi room has a wall with a large window in the shape of the Templar cross.
*In Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, the player is an Abstergo employee. However, the player does not seem to be aware of the company's association with the Templar Order or their war against the Assassins. However, it is implied that the player is descended from Assassins, thus their motives for secrecy might not be so mysterious.
*Abstergo has a Twitter page for Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy .
*The Abstergo Industries facility in which Desmond was initially held, and later escaped from, was located in Italy. During his escape, Desmond saw several signs written in Italian.
*According to sound files found in rifts hidden by Subject 16 in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Abstergo used closed circuit televisions to spy on civillians and video games to distract them.

Trivia
*Abstergo is a Latin verb, meaning "I cleanse."
*In the Truth file regarding Apollo, scanning the symbol on the shuttle shows the Abstergo logo, suggesting that Abstergo Industries was behind the moon landings. Similarly, scanning the American flag planted on the moon reveals the Templar cross.
*During Ezio's visit to the Vault, the Abstergo logo can be seen on several images projected by Minerva.
*In the concept art for The Vault, what looks like the Abstergo logo can be seen on the floor of the circular room in which Ezio fights Rodrigo.
*Abstergo's Animi room has a wall with a large window in the shape of the Templar cross.
*The doors within the laboratory are marked with blue lights in the shape of the Templar cross.
*Abstergo has a Twitter page for Project Legacy .
*The Multiplayer mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is played from the point of view of Abstergo employees undergoing training in the Animi.
*The Abstergo Industries facility in which Desmond was initially held, and later escaped from, was located in Italy. During his escape, Desmond saw several signs written in Italian.
*According to phone sound files in glyphs during ACBH, Abstergo used TVs to spy on civillians and video games to distract them.
Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy is a Facebook game, designed as a promotion for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Players are recruits for Abstergo Industries who relive the genetic memories of other individuals, most of them Assassins. There are four chapters in the "Italian Wars" pack: Chapter 1 focuses on Bartolomeo d'Alviano during the Battle of Agnadello, Chapter 2 focuses on Francesco Vecellio on a mission to kill a target, Chapter 3 focuses on Mario Auditore and the protection of Monteriggioni, and Chapter 4 focuses on Perotto Calderon.

The "Rome" pack was released on November 15, 2010, and included another set of four chapters. Chapter 1 features Fiora Cavazza; Chapter 2, Giovanni Borgia; Chapter 3, Francesco Vecellio again; and Chapter 4, Giovanni Borgia again.

: Summary: Italian Wars Event Chart

: Main Article: Chapter 1 - Bartolomeo d'Alviano
Welcome to the DDS Program. Please remain still while we synchronize your first assignment. In 1509 CE, the Battle of Agnadello dealt a devastating blow to the Venetian army. You will relive this battle through the eyes and mind of one of its captains, Bartolomeo d'Alviano. Please report any anomalies you encounter.
: Main Article: Chapter 2 - Francesco Vecellio
You may feel mild discomfort during synchronization. This is normal. It is important to maintain your concentration. History places Niccolò di Pitigliano's death in Lonigo, Italy in the year 1510 CE. Our data supports this fact. But the circumstances of his death require further investigation. Please take notes and report your findings.
: Main Article: Chapter 3 - Mario Auditore
We are now synchronizing the DDS. For your safety, please report any nosebleeds, vertigo, nausea, or hallucinations. Land-hungry Florence sought possession of the walled city of Monteriggioni, but it held strong for years under the guidance of the Auditore family. You will dissect the memories of Mario Auditore who struggled to keep his city safe through the latter half of the 15th century.
: Main Article: Chapter 4 - Perotto Calderon
While we prepare to synchronize, please listen to the following questions. Be sure to report any difficulties you have answering. What is your name? Where do you live? What year is it? We have a unique window into the lives and secrets of the infamous Borgia family. The DDS has recovered the memories of one of their trusted couriers, Perotto Calderon. Your task is to find out exactly what he discovered.

Rome
:Main Article: Chapter 1 - Fiora Cavazza
Please wait a moment while we synchronize the DDS. You may find yourself daydreaming more often and sleeping less. This is a normal side effect of the program. Many of Rome's biggest names spent their leisure time indulging in its many brothels. They were ideal information hubs for those eager to scale the social ladder. Fiora Cavazza was one such courtesan. Investigate her contacts; find out who she knew, and what she did with that knowledge.
:Main Article: Chapter 2 - Giovanni Borgia
The DDS is going to try to synchronize you with the memories of a child. This may be confusing for you at first, as you will lose your ability to convey complex thought, but your mind should quickly adapt. The truth behind the real parents of Giovanni Borgia, the "Child of Rome," has long baffled historians. But even more perplexing is Giovanni's insignificant life that followed. How does one stand right in the center of the hurricane and remain untouched? Your task is to learn what history has hidden from us.
:Main Article: Chapter 3 - Francesco Vecellio
Now syncing the DDS system. We're going to take a moment to test your emotional range. Please focus on a fond memory. Good. Now focus on a painful memory. Perfect. Just prior to the death of Pope Alexander VI, Cesare Borgia began to lose his grip on Rome. Though you won't find any mention of it in the history books, we suspect a powerful underground movement worked to overthrow the corrupt dynasty. See what you can learn.
:Main Article: Chapter 4 - Giovanni Borgia
Preparing to synchronize. Note that we are experiencing a small system glitch that may cause a subtle ringing in your ears. It should pass as you enter the memory. The new world was plundered in the 15th Century. Explorers became conquerors. La Noche Triste or the Night of Sorrows was a bloody uprising between the Aztecs and the Spanish conquistadors. Hernán Cortés himself was driven from Tenochtitlan. Firsthand reports of the massacre present opposing perspectives. Find the truth.
This guide breaks down the most efficient/profitable quests if you are ever in need of florins or xp. To be considered, the quests cannot require consumables unless these can be bought at a cheap cost with a decent net gain. These calculations are based on an Intrigue skill of 62 so especially for a lot of the money losing or unprofitable quests i.e. the crafting based ones, These figures are only to be used as a rough guide unless you are around the same level or higher since those quests only become profitable once the applicable skill(s) are raised adequately. ===Making and Saving Money from Crafting===
Missions Made Easier/More Profitable by Crafting
If you have excess materials and can craft the expensive requirements for these missions, then you can make a LOT more bang for your AP buck than the other recommended farming missions, assuming you already have materials. These can save you a lot of AP to get ahead in missions once you have the money you need, but otherwise if you are buying the requirements each time, the net xp and florin gain rates are not impressive. Take advantage of these missions if you can.
An Overview of Crafting Chains
A player can make or save money through the use of crafting chains. A <u>crafting chain</u> is a group of craftings, in which the product of one crafting is either the final product or an ingredient in another, the product of which is, in turn, either the final product or an ingredient in another crafting, etc. Crafting chains are often done for the purpose of making money by selling the final product. In an ideal crafting chain, all of the ingredients can be purchased for a far lower price than the final product can be sold for, leading to large profit margins. Crafting chains can also be used to obtain otherwise expensive or difficult-to-acquire mission requirement items from far cheaper or more easily obtained ingredients. The profit/savings margin of a crafting chain is obviously important, but there are other considerations as well. For example, whether a crafting chain whose ingredients, some or all of which, can only be obtained as chance items from missions or a crafting chain whose ingredients, some or all of which, can be obtained through purchase, is easier to complete, depending upon the player's AP's and whether or not they have sufficient florins or mission requirements, and whether or not to purchase the ingredients for a crafting chain or try to obtain them as chance items from the appropriate mission, if they can be acquired either way. The number of craftings a crafting chain entails and how they ar sequenced is another important consideration; a crafting chain that is more lucrative but requires more craftings or whose craftings are sequenced unfavorably (i.e., several craftings in the crafting chain cannot be performed at the same time, but rather must follow one another chronologically because the products of some are the ingredients of other) may not be worth the extra time and effort as compared to a crafting chain requiring less or more suitably sequenced (many craftings can be performed at one time) craftings.

Determining a Crafting Chain's Profit or Savings Margin Algebraically
You can determine a crafting chain's profit margin by modeling it algebraically, substituting values in for the variables, and solving. The basic algebraic model of the profit of a crafting chain is the following:

<math>T=SF(1+I/100)-(C1M1+C2M2+C3M3)</math> where <math>T</math> represents the profit, <math>S</math> represents the base selling price of the final product, <math>F</math> represents the number of the final product obtained, and <math>I</math> represents the average Intrigue stat of the player over the time it takes to produce, and sell, the final product of the crafting chain. Each <math>C</math> and <math>M</math> represent the purchasing price of and number of, respectively, each ingredient required in the crafting chain. A player will need to use more or less of these variables (with the appropriate subscripts) for crafting chains with more or fewer purchased ingredients than 3, although few require more than 3 purchased ingredients. Here is an explanation of each part of the right side of the equation:
*<math>SF(1+I/100)</math>: the income of the crafting chain. <math>SF</math> determines the base selling price of the entire stock of the final product produced, which, multiplied by <math>(1+I/100)</math>, (the modifier placed on the base selling price of any sold item by the player's average Intrigue stat over the time of the sale of all of the item), determines the final selling price of the entire stock of the final product, aka, the income of the crafting chain.
*<math>(C1M1+C2M2+C3M3)</math>: the cost of the crafting chain. The cost of each ingredient, multiplied by the number of it used, gives the cost of the stock of each ingredient purchased. Added together, they equal the entire cost of the crafting chain.
One crafting chain with a large profit margin, particularly useful in the 3rd memory sequence, starts with coal and ends with poisoned daggers. The cheapest/most lucrative way to complete this crafting chain is to extract pyrite from coal, combine the pyrite with saltpeter to get vitriol, and then combine the vitriol with unpoisoned daggers to get poisoned daggers. It will be used here as an example of how to algebraically model, and subsequently determine, the profit of a crafting chain.

Here is the algebraic model of the profit of the crafting chain:
<math>T=300C1PVP2(1+I/100)-(150C+100CP+200CP1V)</math>, where <math>C</math> represents the number of coals used, <math>P1</math> represents the average number of doses of pyrite obtained per extraction from coal (can be 1 to 2), <math>V</math> represents the average number of doses of vitriol produced per combination of pyrite and saltpeter (can be 1 to 2), and <math>P2</math> represents the average number of poisoned daggers produced per combination of vitriol and a dagger (can be 1 to 2). Here is an explanation of each part of the right side of the equation:

The first part: <math>300CP1VP2(1+I/100)</math>. The income of the crafting chain. Explained further:

*300: the base selling price, of a poisoned dagger.
*<math>CP1VP2</math>: the number of poisoned daggers produced.
The second part: <math>-(150C+100CP1+200CP1V)</math>. The cost of the crafting chain with no ingredients left over. Explained further:

*<math>150C</math>: 150 is the purchasing price of a coal, which, multiplied by <math>C</math> (the number of coals used), gives the cost of the stock of coal used.
*<math>100CP1</math>: 200 is the purchasing price of a dose of saltpeter, which, multiplied by CP1 (the number of doses of pyrite obtained, giving the number of doses of saltpeter needed to use up all the pyrite obtained), gives the cost of the stock of saltpeter used.
*<math>200CP1V</math>: 200 is the cost of an unpoisoned dagger, which, multiplied by <math>CP1V</math> (the number of doses of vitriol produced, giving the number of unpoisoned daggers needed to use up all the vitriol produced), gives the cost of the stock of unpoisoned daggers used.
Here is a demonstration of how to solve the equation, assuming the hypothetical player started with 1 coal, obtained an average of 2 products at each step of the crafting chain, and had an average Intrigue stat of 30 over the time of the sale of all of the poisoned daggers produced.

*The original equation: <math>T=300CP1VP2(1+I/100)-(150C+200CP1+200CP2V)</math>
*Substituting for the variables: <math>T=300(1)(2)(2)(2)(1+30/100)-(150(1)+200(1)(2)+200(1)(2)(2))</math>
*Performing multiplication and division inside the parentheses: <math>T=300(1)(2)(2)(2)(1+0.3)-(150+400+800)</math>
*Performing addition and subtraction inside the parentheses (note that 1,150 is the cost of the crafting chain): <math>T=300(1)(2)(2)(2)(1.3)-1,150</math>
*Performing multiplication and division (note that 3,120 is the income of the crafting chain): <math>T=3,120 -1,350</math>
*Performing addition and subtraction: <math>T=1,970</math>
So the player's profit from the crafting chain is 1,770.

*Edited - base selling price of Poisoned Dagger is 300, not 750 as posted previously, cutting the profit margin on this chain significantly.

Profitable Crafting Chains and their Algebraic Models
Memorize the expression (1+I/100). You will see it in the algebraic model of every selling crafting chain, because it represents the modifier placed on the price of any sold item by a player's Intrigue stat.

*Coal to Matchlock Rifle:
**Flowchart: Coal->Pyrite, Pyrite+Olive (wood)+Tin+Copper->Matchlock Rifle.

The Coal to Matchlock Rifle chain is extremely profitable, with a base price of 7500, but requires olives, tin and copper, which cannot be purchased. These are fairly easy to get from the Digging In and Lumbering missions.
It's only natural you'd empathize with the subjects behind the memories and those with a stronger synch will be harder to resist. You're viewing the events through one perspective, one that is often convinced it is doing the right thing. I wonder how you would feel if we sent you the memories of that same subject's rival for review.

In the quiz, we stated: "You find yourself taking the side of the subject in each memory."<br/ />
You responded: "It's hard to see both sides of the story."

An astute observation. It's rare to find a memory where the subject cannot wholeheartedly justify his actions. DDS users are easily influenced by the induced fugue state, but your clear vision is impressive.
You responded: "No. I'm simply observing their actions. I don't empathize."

It's interesting that you do not feel any empathy during your memory reviews. Your file tells us you passed our test criteria to ensure a solid link with the DDS, so the synchronization should be making an impact. I will forward your report to our engineers to see if we can increase the signal strength.
You responded: "He seems to know an awful lot about your subject matter."

First, we must stress the dangers of associating with outside connections that force their way into the DDS system. Not only do you risk termination of your contract with us, but you may force us to pursue legal options. You have been a tremendous asset to our program, but you must understand that contact with this "Erudito" user will not be tolerated.
‎Entering 7D05C12C under Special Code will give you an item in your Lockbox called Erudito's Network, with the description "Work for Abstergo, report to us." It can't be bought or sold, and at random intervals, it will cause Erudito to "assist" you with either an experience boost, a florin boost, an increased chance for chance items, or an increased chance for a mnemonic.
Linking
After linking Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood with a Uplay account, you will be able train your Assassin recruits from within Project Legacy. Doing so will also unlock certain events within Project Legacy itself.

Finding and combining the Auditore Trail Mnemonic Set can be used to unlock Brotherhood content, and buying certain landmarks within both Project Legacy and Brotherhood (such as the Colosseo) will net you florins in both games.

The Uplay connectivity of Project Legacy would presumable allow players to avail of more of the Uplay rewards in Brotherhood, as Brotherhood has a greater number of rewards than it has in-game Units to be earned. However, when the functionality went live, there were an equal amount of points for rewards and actions for Project Legacy; though the points can still be spent on rewards in Brotherhood instead, if one so chooses.

Project Legacy Florins and XP Farming Guide
This guide breaks down the most efficient/profitable quests if you are ever in need of florins or xp. To be considered, the quests cannot require consumables unless these can be bought at a cheap cost with a decent net gain. These calculations are based on an Intrigue skill of 62 so especially for a lot of the money losing or unprofitable quests i.e. the crafting based ones, These figures are only to be used as a rough guide unless you are around the same level or higher since those quests only become profitable once the applicable skill(s) are raised adequately. The best missions to farm are bolded below, and the rest are listed alternatives that are also decent depending on what's available to you and how many AP's you have at the time. Guide complete up to Chapter 3.
Making and Saving Money from Crafting

**Flowchart: Coal->Pyrite, Pyrite+Olive (wood)+Tin+Copper->Matchlock Rifle.

The Coal to Matchlock Rifle chain is extremely profitable, with a base price of 7500, but requires olives, tin and copper, which cannot be purchased. These are fairly easy to get from the Digging In and Lumbering missions.
You responded: "It's hard to see both sides of the story."

An astute observation. It's rare to find a memory where the subject cannot wholeheartedly justify his actions. DDS users are easily influenced by the induced fugue state, but your clear vision is impressive.

In the quiz, we stated: "You find yourself taking the side of the subject in each memory."<br/ />

In the quiz, we asked: "What do you know about Erudito?"<br/ />
You responded: "He seems to know an awful lot about your subject matter."

First, we must stress the dangers of associating with outside connections that force their way into the DDS system. Not only do you risk termination of your contract with us, but you may force us to pursue legal options. You have been a tremendous asset to our program, but you must understand that contact with this "Erudito" user will not be tolerated.
You responded: "You can follow up through email. I am willing to submit a full report if you request one."

Thank you for your offer to file a report on "Erudito." Please be thorough. If we can track his patterns, we can begin to block his access to the DDS system and continue our work without further interruptions.
Promotional Code
‎Entering 7D05C12C under Special Code will give you an item in your Lockbox called Erudito's Network, with the description "Work for Abstergo, report to us." It can't be bought or sold, and at random intervals, it will cause Erudito to "assist" you with either an experience boost, a florin boost, an increased chance for chance items, or an increased chance for a mnemonic.

However, some users have experienced an issue with the Erudito assisted florin gain, wherein they receive a florin loss instead.
