He lived with his family in [[wikipedia:Morea|Morea]], but they fled in 1460 to [[wikipedia:Corfu|Corfu]]. Born as the eldest son to Bayezid II and Bülbül Hatun, he was trained as provincial governor in Anatolia. During his father's later years, he was considered the crown prince and supported by grand vizier Hadim Ali Pasha. Pasha died when Ahmet left the battlefield during the [[Shahkulu]] Rebellion when, instead of fighting, he tried to rally his troops towards his cause for ascension.<ref name="Wikipedia">[[wikipedia:Şehzade Ahmet|''Wikipedia'': Şehzade Ahmet]]</ref>

During the traditional race to reach Istanbul during the final years of the sultan's reign, Selim was found out of control by his father and defeated. However, when Ahmet tried to get to Constantinople, soldiers blocked his way because of his prior incompetence. When his father abdicated over Ahmet's capture and rule of another province, Selim became Sultan.<ref name="Wikipedia" />

Ahmet continued to control a part of Anatolia in the first months of [[Selim I|Selim's]] reign. Finally, the forces of Selim and Ahmet fought a battle near [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeni%C5%9Fehir,_Bursa Yenişehir], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bursa Bursa] on 24 April 1513. Ahmet's forces were defeated and Ahmet was arrested. Soon after he was executed.<ref name="Wikipedia" />

Yusuf was born in Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, at that time known as the "Crossroads of the World." Raised to be an Assassin from birth, he rose through the ranks to eventually become the Mentor of the Ottoman Assassins by 1511.

===Meeting Ezio Auditore===
In 1511, Yusuf met fellow Mentor Ezio Auditore, who arrived at Constantinople in search of the Seals of Altaïr. Yusuf showed Ezio around the city, giving him a [[hookblade]] in the process and introducing him to the various types of [[bombs]] that the Ottoman Assassins used.

Together, they climbed the [[Galata Tower]], and viewed the city from above, before both leaving it by performing a [[Leap of Faith]].

===Rescuing Suleiman===
That same year, Ezio and Yusuf infiltrated [[Topkapı Palace]] dressed as [[Civilians#Minstrels|entertainers]], so as to join the party held for Prince Suleiman, who was in danger of a Templar assassination. Ezio and Yusuf were able to find the disguised Templars and have the Ottoman Assassins silently kill them.

==Appearance==
Yusuf wore tan Assassin robes and a headband, both with teal sashes. He wielded a [[hidden blade]], the hookblade, and [[Throwing Knives|throwing knives]].
