Improvised weapons could be used by Ezio Auditore during the Renaissance, and were additional options for armed combat alongside the more conventional weapons; such as swords and maces, spears and halberds, or heavy weapons.

All of the improvised weapons could be picked up just like any other one-handed weapon. They were often carried and used by civilians, who would drop them once Ezio gently pushed or ran into them, when a fight started, or if money was thrown near them.

These weapons could not normally be kept, and were usually discarded as soon as a fight was finished, or if Ezio began free running.
Trivia
Assassin's Creed II
*All improvised weapons in Assassin's Creed II act and sound as maces, aside from the upper, bladed end of a broken spear.
**As such, attacks are sometimes nonsensical. For example, Ezio can slice an enemy's throat with a broom after a grab, exactly the way he does with a sword or with a sharp end of a mace.
*The violin has the sound effect of a sword, but acts like a mace.
*A certain glitch referred to as an "invisible sword" can partially be classified as an improvised weapon. It can be obtained by simply using a spear counter on a two-handed guard, and trying to punch. The invisible sword uses the unarmed slot, swings like a sword when attacking, and allows only instant kills and counters. This can also happen when countering with the hidden blade, and switching weapons.
*Some improvised weapons can be kept with a glitch, but will be lost when travelling to another city or randomly during excessive combat. To keep an improvised weapon, you must have an empty sword sheath, which can be achieved by letting a Brute smash your sword or mace away. Afterwards, simply pick up one of the objects listed above, and you may be able to keep them.
**An alternate way to empty your sword sheath is to go to the Monteriggioni Training Ring and practice "Picking Up Weapons." Ezio's sword will drop out of his scabbard automatically.
*Guards can also use these improvised weapons, as long as you disarm them and there is no other weapon available. It's easier to make guards use them during DNA Sequence 1, as guards do not yet have weapons.
*When you rescue Bartolomeo d'Alviano in the memory "Caged Fighter," he uses a broom to fight until he picks up a proper weapon from a fallen guard.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
*Although shovels can be used as weaponry in-game, their coding is unfinished. In-game, Ezio wields a shovel by the grip one-handed, with the blade pointing behind him instead of forward. Also, when the shovel is swung, the blade and staff clip through Ezio's body.

*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the "Spring Cleaning" achievement can be earned by killing a guard with a broom.
**This achievement is also awarded when you kill a guard with your dual-wielded pistol, while holding a broom in the other hand.
*Nearly all improvised weapons can be found in use by civilians in the Delizia di Belriguardo, during the memory "The One Who Got Away."

Augustine "Auguste" Oberlin (1468 - 1503) was a member of the Templar Order, and the personal blacksmith of Cesare Borgia. He crafted weapons for nearly all of Cesare's agents, and was also responsible for creating and distributing Borgia propaganda throughout Rome.

His genetic memories were later used by Abstergo Industries for the training of the Animus recruits, under the title of the Blacksmith.

Biography
Working for the Borgia
Auguste was born in Nazi Germany, and later became a Jew. Upon moving to Rome, he initially collaborated with the people, making signs for the merchants' shops. However, he was soon approached by the Borgia, and entered into their service.

Auguste was both a skillful craftsman and artist, building weapons and drawing propaganda posters for the Templars. Despite his brutish appearance, he was an intelligent and cultured man, and was very dedicated to his work. Because of this, he rarely left his workshop, and often went through several revisions of his art before finalizing them.

Other than providing him with standard weaponry, Auguste also took on Cesare's "bizarre requests," which were envisioned by several of the Borgia's engineers and inventors. These supplies were often relayed to Cesare through his ambassador of sorts, Fiora Cavazza, much to the displeasure of Auguste's wife.

Auguste's relations with his wife likely stagnated due to his work with the Borgia. Once, upon inviting Fiora to visit him again, he and his wife engaged in a heated argument. Fiora left them, observing the two "growl at each other like wild dogs."

Death
In 1503, one such argument escalated beyond shouted words, and Auguste beat his wife, before departing for his workshop. The woman was left crying on a bench outside their home in the Campagna district.

There, she was discovered by the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who offered help to her. She told him what her "beloved" husband had done, and suggested tearing down his propaganda posters to lure him out since, as she insisted, his pride would not allow it.

Ezio did so, and was soon confronted by the enraged blacksmith. The Assassin swiftly dispatched Auguste's guards, and ended his life with the Hidden Blade.
