For The Eyes Of Jasca Ducato
Now, let me make this perfectly clear: I am not trying to defy the "chain of command" here. I appreciate your work, Jasca, and I want to keep this as respectful as possible. That said. . . I feel a certain urge, and perhaps even obligation, to prove a point. (I couldn't figure out how to link directly to the page history, so please go there, and look at the third-to-last edit by Master Sima Yi, and his given reason for it.)

Now, as for the tiny, innocuous snippet of information about modern-day Istanbul, although it isn't particularly relevant to Constantinople's present role in the AC universe, I think it is an otherwise significant point worthy of brief note. That is all. 98.192.42.30 06:21, April 22, 2011 (UTC)

:Your second point proves exactly why the information does not fit on this article. It isn't relevant to Constantinople's role in the AC universe at all. It is never called, or otherwise hinted at being named Istanbul in any way, shape or form, so we don't have it in the article. Also, I don't care much for people trying to prove a point, so don't. --<span style="color:#BF404D">Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record</span> 09:53, April 22, 2011 (UTC)
::No, but I think it's a pretty safe presumption; I was under the impression that it's the general policy around here to assume that something happened as it did in history until it is directly contradicted in an Assassin's Creed product. And it doesn't do any harm to the article. . . doesn't seem to get in the way of any of the info about its AC role. It seems just as pointless, if not more so, to delete it. 98.192.42.30 20:54, April 22, 2011 (UTC)
:::Well I'm sorry, but you assumed wrong. Our sourcing policy explicitly states that there is to be no assumptions of speculations inserted into articles. Most of the staff are pretty relaxed on this part; I however, am not. --<span style="color:#BF404D">Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record</span> 02:41, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
::::Fair enough. But it's not speculation; it's fact. And what do you have to say about Sima Yi's statement? Guardian Assassin 22:39, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
:I've got nothing to say about it, if he wants to add that information, fine by him. I personally wouldn't have it in the article&hellip; I don't care if it's fact, as far as we're concerned the AC games are God, and they do not once mention the name "Istanbul". == Istanbul ==

The article states that the city was known as Istanbul to it's Turkish rulers, but the Ottomans continued to refer to the city as Constantinople. It's a minor detail but I am a bit of stickler when it comes to history. Istanbul was more of a nickname during the Ottoman period and the Byzantine period as well. -LeeUnit92 05:41, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
:Whilst that may well be the case, the amount of hassle we had (as did the Official forums) over what the city should be called was exhausting. The compromise we currently have, mentioning both names in the lead sentence, is the only thing keeping the peace, so to speak. --<span style="color:#BF404D">Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record</span> 08:52, October 6, 2011 (UTC)
:I don't really like how it's worded but yeah I get that there would be a lot of hassle over the name. LeeUnit92 23:21, October 6, 2011 (UTC)
I think the part where it states "also known as Istanbul to its Turkish rulers" can just be changed to "also known as Istanbul." I mean the Byzantines refered to it Istanbul as well. --LeeUnit92 16:53, October 7, 2011 (UTC)
:No, the Byzantines called it Constantinople, which is what the city was named whilst it was a part of the Byzantine Empire... --<span style="color:#BF404D">Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record</span> 18:03, October 7, 2011 (UTC)

:I meant that Istanbul was a nickname that's been in use since Byzantine times. When the Ottomans took over Constantinople (or Kostantiniyye, the Turkish translation of Constantinple) was still the official name and it wouldn't be officially renamed until 1930. == Italian areas? ==

Just a totally random question - when Sophia mentions (when you first meet her) that there aren't many Italians outside of the Galata district and the Venetian quarter, are there more italians in Galata, and is there a "venetian quarter" if so where is it? main reason for this question is that i want most of my assassin's guild to be made up of italians, so was wondering if you are more likely to encounter italians in any particular areas? I fight at your side, any time!
Mercenaries (Italian: Mercenari) were one of the three factions that assisted the Assassin Ezio Auditore (the others being the Courtesans and the Thieves) during the Renaissance period.

The Mercenaries in Tuscany/San Gimignano were led by Mario Auditore, Ezio's uncle, and the ones in Florence were led by Niccolò Machiavelli. Whilst in Venice and Rome , the Mercenaries were led by Bartolomeo d'Alviano.

Application
Mercenaries (and all other hired help) cost 150 florins, followed Ezio around, and made comments after a fight. They wielded Heavy Weapons and were like a more powerful variation of the Brute. However, Mercenaries encountered in missions (that are not hired) were free and had Longswords and Maces. Due to their lack of armor, their effectiveness was drastically reduced and they could be outmatched by 2-3 Pazzi Guards. Ezio could order them to fight the Guards, thus providing a distraction.

In Rome, the mercenaries acted much as they did in the previous cities. Bartolomeo d'Alviano and his wife Pantasilea lead the mercenaries in Rome from their barracks. They actively participated in the fight against the Borgia and their French allies, led by Baron de Valois. When Ezio completed all of the Mercenary's Guild challenges, he was awarded with Bartolomeo's Axe and a Mercenary's Guild crest, which could be located in the armor section in the Tiber Island Hideout.

Combat
Mercenaries were the most heavily armored of the three factions available. They usually wielded heavy, two-handed, weapons, and fought very similarly to Brutes in fights. However, despite this fact, they had quite a bit of difficulty when engaging Brutes in combat.

Trivia
*Mercenaries cannot perform any form of free-running. However, Mario Auditore, who behaves like a Mercenary, is able to free run.
*Mercenaries possess similar weapons to Brutes, but are easily defeated by them.
*In the Cannaregio district of Venice, you can hire groups of six Mercenaries instead of a usual four.
*During the mission to assassinate Vieri de' Pazzi, Mario refers to his Mercenaries as his brothers, a term usually reserved for fellow Assassins.
*While distributing Bartolomeo's men to specific spots throughout the Castello district as a distraction for Silvio Barbarigo, his men act like normal guards instead of Brutes, even being able to sprint.
*Ironically, Niccolò Machiavelli is portrayed as the leader of the Florentine mercenaries when, historically, he strongly opposed the use of mercenaries.
*Regular mercenaries can break out of your grabs; the ones in the Monteriggioni training can't, unless you're training with them.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, two mercenaries help Ezio operate Leonardo da Vinci's Tank.
*In Brotherhood, they are far more powerful and can take out several guards effectively.
*Fabrizio and Prospero Colonna are two notable mercenaries saved during one of the Brotherhood Courtesan missions.
*Mercenaries can be killed by the Apple of Eden if they are within range of its blast radius.
*If a Minstrel attempts to play in front of Ezio while he's accompanied by Mercenaries, they will push him away and one will attempt to chase him, before returning shortly afterward.
*When standing by a Mercenary as Ezio it can be seen that the Mercenary is far taller than Ezio like many other character models in Assassins Creed.
