Renaissance Italians practiced a rudimentary form of recycling when dealing with Roman structures: any marble that could be found was ripped off the buildings to be reused for free.

Upon entering the city, Ezio met with one of Mario's mercenaries, who informed him that the monk, [[Antonio Maffei]], fortified himself atop one of the tallest towers in the city, surrounding himself with archers and [[guards]] alike, while he spouted scripture. Ezio made his way up the tower, assassinating guards and archers on his way up. He eventually assassinated the monk on top of the tower, slaying the first of the two co-conspirators within the city.
