'''Le Roi des Thunes''' (English: ''The King of Beggars''; unknown – 1791) was the slang title held by the leader of the [[Cour des Miracles]], a Parisian counter-society devoted to criminals, beggars and [[thieves]].

==Biography==
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the individual bearing the title from at least 1789 was the unacknowledged, illegitimate son of a minor nobleman. He rose to power in the Cour des Miracles in the late 1770s.

The Roi des Thunes would later recruit the former tax assessor [[Aloys la Touche]] as his enforcer, recognizing his cruelty and economic acumen. Around 1789, the Roi des Thunes became aware of the existence of the [[Templars|Templar Order]], and appealed for membership, claiming the advantages of his underground connections.

However, the [[Grand Master]], [[François de la Serre]], refused him membership in the Order because de la Serre did not believe his position was fruitful, stating he had no need for the "intrigues of rats."

The Roi des Thunes vowed revenge on de la Serre, and was later presented with an opportunity to carry it out by the Templar [[Charles Gabriel Sivert]], who was secretly participating in a coup d'etat within the Order, led by [[François-Thomas Germain]].

Germain later accepted the Roi des Thunes and la Touche into the Order. At a party attended by de la Serre in May 1789, Sivert and the Roi des Thunes planned to assassinate the Grand Master. Sivert lured de la Serre out to the palace gardens, where he attacked him.

However, de la Serre managed to fight Sivert off, wounding the latter's face. Nonetheless, the Roi des Thunes snuck up from behind and struck de la Serre with a poisoned pin crafted by Germain, killing de la Serre in moments.

As the two Templars made their escape, Sivert called out the [[guards]] and framed [[Arno Dorian]], who had witnessed the murder of his adoptive father. Around 1791, three Assassins were sent to locate the Roi des Thunes and his agents. However, two of them returned with no leads, while the third who was an apprentice of Guillaume Beylier was killed by the Templar.

Arno eventually found the Roi des Thunes with the help of the [[Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade|Marquis de Sade]], who hoped to take over the Roi des Thunes' criminal empire. La Touche warned his master of Arno's imminent arrival, much to the Roi des Thunes' shock that he had been tracked down too soon.

When Arno attacked the Roi des Thunes who was sitting on his throne, he realized that it was an ambush. The third Assassin killed by the Roi des Thunes was used as a decoy, while the Roi des Thunes and his snipers tried to shoot Arno. Despite this, Arno managed to elude the snipers and assassinate the Templar. After the Roi des Thunes' death, the Marquis de Sade quickly took over his position.

Am I the only one that noticed his outfit bears a ''strong ''resemblance to the [[Templar Armor]]? It's not exactly the same. It's a little slimmer, but it's pretty damn close. I believe that the templar armor was adapted for Shay. Because, during the time between Black Flag and Rouge it stolen, I think, by Assassins who then modify by giving it a hood, due to black flag not having one and then gave it to shay, which he then modify for his own purpose.

But still - I think it's the same armor, despite 50 years of modifications. Since Edward left Inagua for Assassins, then maybe he left all his outfits as well, foк future assassins to use and they gave it to same high-ranking member. Patrick is only used in the first quote of the article in order to formally introduce the character. So I propose a renaming of the article without Patrick, as for the article about Arno, which is titled Arno Dorian and not Arno Victor Dorian. ==Irish/American?==
Son of Irish immigrants. It explains Shay's shoddy Irish accent, but what are we going to do with his nationality? I am still not on board with this "country where individual is living" category being added as a nationality by the way, but nobody seemed interested in continuing this discussion on Seraffo's page. Seeing as this is a trend you seem to have started, Bovkaffe, I'd like to hear your perspective on this.

He is both , at that time he would of been basically Irish. Americans weren't as we know them today obviously immirgrant children born in america were still ethnically and culturally the culture of their parents so he is Irish through and through otherwise the devs would not of given him the accent.

I noticed that, in the categories section, there's a tag (I guess it's called a tag) for Master Assassin. Is this mere speculation, or has it been officially confirmed that Shay had become a Master Assassin sometime before his eventual defection?

== Adewale's killer? ==
Of course nothing can be posted yet, but Adewale was murdered in 1758, and the game takes place during the Seven Years' War. Combine that with the fact that we have a screenshot of the two men fighting, and it's highly possible that Shay was the one who killed Adewale. So the game may have a mirrored structure of the others; a Templar being sent on missions to kill high-ranking Assassins, instead of vice versa. What does everyone else think? Hey guys, Shay probably changed his mind to move to the Templars, cuz in one of the trailers, he said "You made me slaughter innocents! I will not make that mistake again!" Personally I hated Shay I respected his choice to leave his brotherhood yet he didnt seem vey intelligent and far to emotional if he calmly told Achilles what he saw instead of screaming at him then the assassins would have given up the search for the sites. I also belive he really picked the wrong side I meen he left the assassins because he wanted to save people. The assassins may have caused the earthquake but they didnt do it intentionally.The templars especially Haytham killed people because they were an inconvienience

Was Pierre a member of the colonial brotherhood. He had to be a student of Achilles yet I dout he ever met Shay although he would have been told about him. That would be why Pierres student Charles new about Connor and why he new who Shay was. Achilles and Pierre more then likely kept in contact with each other

As the war raged on, the Templars initiated a [[Colonial Assassin purge|purge]] of the [[Colonial Assassins]], during which Bellec witnessed the former commit ruthless acts. He claimed to have seen Templars massacre entire villages for the chance of eliminating a single Assassin. In 1762, he left the militia and traveled to France, escaping the purge just before the remnants of the Colonial Assassins were crushed.<ref name="ACU"/>

Bellec settled in Paris, becoming a Master Assassin and a member of the French Assassin Council. He was charged with training apprentices of the Order, and became a tutor to [[Charles Dorian]]. While on a mission, Charles was locked in a swordfight with a Templar, only to be saved when his teacher assassinated the Templar from above. Bellec then passed Charles the latter's pocketwatch, telling him that he needed to return to his son safely.<ref name="ACU"/>

By May 1789, Bellec had managed to have himself imprisoned in the [[Bastille]]. At that time, a young man was thrown in his cell, accused of murder. While the young man slept, Bellec found Charles' watch on his person and realized he was Charles' son, Arno. When Arno awoke and discovered his watch missing, Bellec challenged him to duel him for it. The duel came to an abrupt end when Arno told Bellec to return to the glyphs in the corner. Bellec then realized that Arno possessed [[Eagle Vision]] to see them. He gave back Charles' watch to Arno, revealing that his father was an Assassin. He then spent two months training Arno in combat, and telling him about the Assassins and Templars. He also explained the young man about his Eagle Vision and taught him how to use it.<ref name="ACU"/>

On July 14, the Bastille was stormed by revolutionaries, prompting Bellec and Arno to take the opportunity to escape. When they came to the edge of the battlements, Bellec gave Arno a medallion, saying it would lead him to the Assassins, before taking a [[Leap of Faith]] into the the moat below.<ref name="ACU"/>

Sure enough, Arno found the Assassin headquarters underneath Sainte-Chapelle, against Bellec's expectations. After greeting the boy, he brought Arno before the Assassin Council and witnessed his initiation into the Brotherhood.<ref name="ACU"/>

[[Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau|Mirabeau]] tasked Arno, under pressure from the Assassin Council, to assassinate the Templar [[Charles Gabriel Sivert]]. Bellec told Arno that he won't assist him, but advised the young Assassin to try and exploit opportunities in order to reach his target. Should the assassination fail, Bellec told Arno it is best to take his own life rather than compromise the Brotherhood, which was the way during the [[Levantine Assassins|Levantine era]].<ref name="ACU"/>

===Poisoning of Mirabeau===
The Templar [[Élise de la Serre]], daughter of the late [[Grand Master]] [[François de la Serre]] and the adopted sister of Arno Dorian, was brought to the hideout of the Assassins by Arno. Elise tried to appeal for an alliance with the Assassins against an extremist faction within the Templar Order. Bellec strongly objected to the alliance, but was paid no heed by Mirabeau, who sought peace with the Templars.<ref name="ACU"/>

Fed up with Mirabeau's conservative views, Bellec threatened an apothecary in exchange for aconite, a deadly poison. Bellec then gave Mirabeau a chance to change his mind, but once Bellec realized he could not change Mirabeau's mind, he snuck the aconite into Mirabeau's drink. Once Mirabeau drank the poisoned wine, Bellec paid Mirabeau his final rites.<ref name="ACU"/>

Arno eventually tracked Bellec down to the [[Sainte-Chapelle]], with Bellec attempting to explain that he was only following the examples of Assassins in [[Masyaf]], [[Monteriggioni]], and the [[United States|Thirteen Colonies]] in purging the old order to rebuild it with greater strength and conviction. Bellec attempted to convince Arno to join his cause, but Arno refused, resulting in the two dueling.<ref name="ACU"/>

Arno managed to gain the upper hand in the fight, and was forced to kill Bellec when he tried to kill Elise. Before dying, Bellec commended Arno for defeating him, and urged Arno to finish him off, otherwise he will never stop. Once Bellec died from his wounds, Arno paid him his final rites. Bellec's Assassin robes were then passed on to his former apprentice.<ref name="ACU"/>

Bellec was a grizzled and argumentative individual, known for possessing a rather crude sense of humor. Although he was passionately loyal to the cause, his view on the Assassins' philosophy was rather simplistic, bordering on fanatical, refusing to allow peace with the Templars no matter the cost.This was most likely due to him witnessing the decline of the Colonial Brotherhood and the brutality of the Colonial Templars. He also showed sympathies with the [[Jacobins]].<ref name="PW"/>

A loyal Assassin, Bellec scolded Arno when the latter pursued targets without the consent of the Assassin Council, even if he himself approved of the young man's actions. In reverence to the [[Levantine Assassins|Levantine Brotherhood]]'s history and influence, Bellec was able to speak Arabic to some extent.<ref name="ACU"/>

Bellec's radical views on the conflict between the Assassins and Templars culminated in poisoning of Mirabeau in order to prevent peace between the two factions.
