William M. is a member of the Assassin Order, who acted as a contact for the Assassin teams spread throughout the world. Based in the Assassin headquarters, he regularly kept the teams informed about the situation of the others.

Biography
In 2012, he relayed information to the Assassin team in Italy through Shaun Hastings and requested him to forward it to the other members. He also had a conversation with Lucy Stillman about the condition of Desmond Miles, who had been suffering from the bleeding effect, in which he said that they had to keep going, as they needed the location of the Apple of Eden.

Following the events in the Colosseum Vault, William and one other person found a shocked Desmond, and decided to return him to the Animus to prevent any further harm. Desmond relived more of Ezio Auditore da Firenze's memories from 1506, but his condition steadily worsened. The unidentified man insisted on giving Desmond an injection to stabilize his heart rate but William refused, saying that "the missing data may be there. The Piece of Eden is useless until we have it." Desmond went on to relive more memories of Ezio.

The Da Vinci Disappearance sequence can actually be accessed anytime after Ezio arrives in Rome. If accessed, Desmond will comment on the fluctuations accompanied with the echos of Leonardo's greeting to Ezio. At this point Desmond will receive an e-mail within the animus from William telling him that the memory sequence he has found will lead them to some information that the Assassin's require and that he is not to tell the others about what he finds for the time being. In the meantime Rebecca will be sending all the information directly to him.

At the end of the memory sequence, Leonardo da Vinci and Ezio Auditore found another smaller vault in Rome. When Ezio's DNA was activated by a pedestal, the room projected a set of coordinates: 43 39 19 N 75 27 42 W. Once the sequence was completed, William instructed the other man to sedate Desmond, but it was too late; Desmond had entered a coma. William was confident Desmond would live (and did so by falling into a coma), and he and the other man left him to find the temple using the coordinates Ezio and Leonardo found.

The apprentices are Assassins who were saved by Ezio Auditore from the rough streets of Rome during the war against the Templars and had subsequently devoted themselves to learning the ways of the Assassins, motivated by their lust for revenge against the Borgia for corrupting the beautiful city of Rome.

Operating out of the Tiber Island headquarters, the apprentices were sent on missions across Europe, in order to improve their skill and combat experience beyond their traditional training. However, the apprentices did not always survive these missions. When not on missions outside Rome, the apprentices would support the efforts of Ezio Auditore and his allies, providing support and reinforcement during missions.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
In-game, Ezio has the ability to train up to twelve apprentices at a time, and is able to have at least five support him during his own missions. After recruiting someone for his cause, Ezio sends them to Niccolò Machiavelli to become an Assassin. On the field, Ezio signals these Assassins by raising his arm and clenching his fist, indicating that they should strike. During the game, players have the opportunity to send the apprentices to different cities across Europe to complete tasks and assassinations. If they finish the mission, the apprentices earn experience points, but if they die, they will be lost forever. The chances of the assassins completing the mission depend on how hard the mission is, what experience the assassins have and how many you send.

Players can also customize the apprentices' armor, weaponry, and the color of their robes. Each one also has a different personality. Later on, players can use the experience points they've gained to upgrade their apprentices' fighting and free running abilities. Apprentices can ride horses like Ezio, and will engage in horse chases if Ezio instructs them to.

Trivia
*While all apprentices wear uniforms similar to Ezio's, not one of them has a cape on their left shoulder, and not all of their hoods possess the iconic eagle's beak.
*All of the apprentices' uniforms are similar to the Assassin Guards from Masyaf in Assassin's Creed.
*The apprentices are equipped with only one hidden blade, unlike Ezio, who has two. This can be explained through Altaïr's Codex page, which states that the metals to make more than one hidden blade are rare, and to choose carefully to whom should receive a second blade.
*There are female and male assassin apprentices.
*It is said you can bring a "personal assassin" with you on missions. No further information on this has been given.
*In the Brotherhood storyline trailer, another assassin, likely an apprentice, wears the exact same outfit as Ezio. This is likely Ezio's personal apprentice (right-hand man).
*The Assassins who cover their faces are denoted to a lower rank, as said in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy.

The Siege of Monteriggioni was an engagement between the Borgia, under the command of Cesare Borgia, and the Auditore which took place in 1499. Determined to rid themselves of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the Templars attacked the city of Monteriggioni with an overwhelming force, whilst the city's defenders, led by both Ezio and his uncle &ndash; Mario Auditore &ndash; held them off.

The Auditore were caught by surprise. Ezio himself was unaware of what was happening, sleeping together with Caterina Sforza. Though when a cannonball hit the room, shattering the wall and central pillar, Ezio jumped out of bed, dressed and armed himself with one Hidden Blade, however his armor was scattered by the attack. He climbed out the window onto the rooftop to observe exactly what was happening. It was then that Ezio realized that Monteriggioni was under attack. Another bomb struck the villa roof and Ezio fell down to the ground. There, his uncle Mario helped him up and told him the attack was led by the Borgia. Mario instructed his nephew to hold off the army until the townspeople could flee. Ezio jumped on a horse to get as fast as possible to the walls of defense. Upon the fortress walls, he used the cannons to destroy as many siege towers as he could.

Despite the destruction of many of the Templars' siege machines, the Templars managed to overwhelm the city's defenders and breach the main gates. A mortally wounded Mario Auditore was forced inside the city by Cesare Borgia who, revealing the Apple to be in his possession, proceeded to "invite" Ezio to come to Rome with a shot of his firearm; the shot killed Mario Auditore, whilst Ezio was also shot by a detachment of Templar arquebusiers upon the city walls. When Ezio eventually regained consciousness, he made his way to Rome, in pursuit of Cesare Borgia.

It would be another four years before he could finally confront Cesare and Rodrigo Borgia in Rome itself.
Desmond Miles (born 1987) is the main protagonist of the main installments in the Assassin's Creed series and the descendant of a long line of ancestors who swore their allegiance to the Assassin Order. He is initially forced to use a machine, called the Animus, created by Abstergo Industries – the modern front of the Knights Templar – to relive the memories of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Crusader era, in their quest to locate the "Apple", a Piece of Eden.

Eventually escaping with the aid of modern day Assassins, Desmond once again uses an improved version of the Animus to explore the memories of his second ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, so as to learn the ways of the Assassins in a much faster way than normal.

Biography
Early life
Desmond Miles was born in an Assassin "hideout" in the desert, an "off the grid" compound with a population of about thirty people, much like the city of Masyaf, where he was destined to be trained as an Assassin. He was frustrated by his parents' explicit instructions not to leave the compound, and believed them to be overly concerned and paranoid. On his 16th birthday, he finally fled, "wanting to see the rest of the world." He later told Lucy Stillman that he had no regrets over leaving his parents, because as far as he was concerned, they were little more than his "wardens." After leaving the Assassin compound, he went into hiding for nine years. While keeping a low profile, he eventually became a bartender. Aware of the Knights Templar, and wanting to avoid both them and the Assassins, Desmond never used his real name and used only cash to purchase items. However, he was eventually found, traced through a fingerprint needed for a motorcycle license, and was brought to Abstergo Laboratory.

Kidnapped by Abstergo
I'm not an assassin&hellip; not any more.

In September 2012, Desmond Miles was kidnapped by Abstergo Industries, a pharmaceutical company and front for the Knights Templar, for use as a test subject in the Animus, a device that can read the memories of Desmond's ancestors through the "genetic memory" left behind in their descendants' DNA. At first Warren Vidic, attempted to pry the information he wanted from Desmond's mind, but was met with failure. Whilst Desmond claimed to be nothing more than a bartender, Vidic revealed that they knew of his history as an Assassin, forcing Desmond to finally admit his past life. Vidic and Lucy Stillman told Desmond that they were trying to access a certain memory, but Desmond's subconscious was resisting their efforts. Vidic warned Desmond that if he refused to assist them, they would induce a coma, continue their work, and when done with Desmond, leave him to die. Without much choice, Desmond agreed to help them.

Desmond was made to explore the genetic memories of his ancestor – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, a member of a clan of Assassins during the Third Crusade, specifically Altaïr's experiences during the year 1191 – and does so over several days under the watchful eye of Warren Vidic. During the nights however, Desmond discovered that he was able to explore the lab he was being held in, accessing the Animus computer and, after stealing Warren Vidic's pen, gaining access to his personal computer. Through e-mails, Desmond learned of a Subject 16 who had suffered from a "bleeding effect" due to prolonged exposure to the Animus, as well as tidbits of information from the outside world. Eventually, with the aid of Lucy, the Assassins learned of Desmond's capture and attempted to liberate him, with the gunfire of their assault being heard through an intercom device, although the rescue attempt failed. Vidic boasts that those Assassins were in fact the last of the group; their desert hideout having been previously destroyed. Lucy Stillman's actions, however, suggest otherwise, and when Desmond asked if Lucy knew anything about his parents, she responded by saying that she didn't know, but that they probably escaped. During this discussion, Lucy revealed herself to be an undercover member of the Assassins. Desmond eventually achieved Vidic's goal and discovered the location of numerous Pieces of Eden. Executives of Abstergo Industries ordered his execution, but his life was saved by Stillman's intervention, who asked to keep Desmond alive in order to re-access his memories if need be. After the executives leave, Desmond suddenly accesses the "eagle vision" of his ancestor Altaïr, seeing Warren and Lucy for their true allegiances, as well as countless scrawled messages and puzzles on the floor of the main laboratory.

Escape to the Hideout
Wait! Why aren't I following Altair! Oh SHIT!...
At the beginning of Assassin's Creed II, Desmond was still being held within the laboratory at Abstergo, continuing directly from the last game from a couple of hours. Lucy suddenly arrives, covered in blood and demanding Desmond to get into the Animus before Abstergo discovers what she’d done. Desmond, rather confused, agrees and manages to sync with closest genetic match recorded in the Animus’ memory core. Inside the Animus, he experiences the birth of another of his ancestors, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a joint ancestor of his and Subject 16's. He was quickly pulled out, though, and both make their escape.

They were quickly spotted by Abstergo security and forced into an engagement which Lucy quickly ended, allowing them to continue on stealthily. The two soon entered a large open room filled with office blocks, and lined with a large number of Animi, although Desmond's questions about them are met with silence. Desmond instinctively called upon his recently activated Eagle Vision to open the door to an elevator, locked with a password that Lucy did not have. Once in the car park, the two were halted by yet more Abstergo guards, but were able to overcome them and escape.

Arriving at the Assassin's hideout, Desmond was introduced to two more Assassins – Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane – who have worked with Lucy over the years. Lucy told Desmond that they wanted him to become trained in the ways of the Assassin, and thanks to the Bleeding Effect, they could achieve this in a matter of days, although it required him learning the ways of an Assassin through a new ancestor; Ezio. Desmond agrees to help almost immediately, and was quickly plugged in the Animus 2.0.

After learning the ways of the Assassin through Ezio's memories, Desmond was retracted from the Animus, partly to test his retention of the memories, but also to prevent the mental
degradation that Subject 16 had suffered from being in the Animus for an extended period of time.

Tasking him with initiating security protocols around the Assassin hideout, Lucy left it to Desmond to work out how to reach them through the use of his Eagle Vision and new-found Free Running skills. Just as he began, however, he started suffering vivid hallucinations of the Crusader era and the Italian Renaissance. At first the visions were short, and were nothing to worry about, but after completing the task, Desmond was incapacitated as the visions became more real.

Taken back to Acre, Desmond once again followed the memories of Altaïr, this time without the use of the Animus, and discovered Altaïr and Maria Thorpe conceived a child, Desmond's next ancestor.

<br>
The next day, Desmond had recovered from the experiences and returned to the Animus, neglecting to tell the Assassins what had happened. He continued the watch over the genetic memories of Ezio Auditore, despite at one time being thrown out by a "corrupted memory sequence." Eventually, they learn that Ezio's arch-nemesis, the Templar Grandmaster Rodrigo Borgia had, in 1492 become Pope Alexander VI, so as to gain access to yet another Piece of Eden, the Papal Staff, as well as the Vault. As Ezio's story began to conclude, Desmond and the Assassins watched deep within the Vault beneath the Vatican. Ezio found himself confronted by a "god" hologram who called herself Minerva; Minerva warns the Assassins of the end of the world, as well as retelling the story of the war between "Those Who Came Before," and their human subjects. The Assassins are shocked when Minerva addresses Desmond by name, confusing even Ezio, and it is revealed that Minerva was in fact talking to Desmond through Ezio. Desmond was quickly pulled out of the Animus, and upon seeing the three rushing to collect their belongings, realized that the Templars had found their location.

Immediately after getting out of the Animus, Lucy tossed Desmond a Hidden Blade with the Assassin's emblem on it, and asks for his assistance in covering the escape. Making their way into the warehouse, Vidic appeared, flanked by Abstergo security officials with the intent of reclaiming Desmond. The two Assassins fought off the Templars, with Desmond, now fully synchronized with Ezio, masterfully using his Hidden Blade to kill many of the guards. With his entourage eliminated, Vidic was left to confront Desmond on his own, but instead retreats, promising that their victory is only temporary. The four Assassins then fled north, and Desmond is hooked up to the Animus inside the van and told to continue to search through his memories for anything useful. Meanwhile, the other Assassins begin to discuss the nature of Minerva and her talk.

Characteristics and personality
Desmond has an uncanny resemblance to both Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, despite having very little in common with their personalities. And being a discreet individual, he does not wear extravagant clothing, accustomed to a white hooded jacket, jeans, and white sneakers. Interestingly, if raised, the hood exhibits a beak-like feature similar to Ezio's and Altaïr's. In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, his attire differs, now having a backpack, black converses, white hooded jacket with a red collar, similar to Ezio, with a black shirt underneath. His sleeves are rolled up to reveal a tattoo where the Hidden Blade should be. Also, he has been shown to have grown a beard out making his appearance more like Ezio in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

Desmond was a gruff and cynical individual, who held a serious outlook on life, due to being aware of the Templars and Assassins since his youth, although he was unaware of Abstergo Industries being a Templar company. Despite this, he was not above jesting about his situation, and would occasionally make jokes, although they rarely elicited a good reaction. After his emancipation from Abstergo, Desmond's demeanor became considerably more relaxed, and he spent a noticeable amount of time conversing with Lucy.

Equipment and skills
Being that Desmond was trained during childhood as an Assassin, he was proficient in basic reconnaissance skills, such as eavesdropping and pickpocketing, and was also a competent fist fighter. After about a week of being forced to relive the memories of his ancestor, Altaïr, Desmond began to experience the Bleeding Effect, and developed an extra-sensory ability called Eagle Vision. Later on, after willingly exploring the memories of another ancestor, Ezio Auditore, Desmond learned how to free-run and use weapons. Not long afterwards, he was able to easily fend off a Templar attack with Ezio's combat skills.

Since synchronizing with Ezio, Desmond has been able to use all of the skills and abilities his ancestor could, both within the Animus and in real life.

Trivia
*He is modelled after Francisco Randez and voiced by Nolan North. Curiously, Randez also used to be a bartender before he became a model. This may have inspired the makers of the game to give Desmond the same profession.
*His face changes slightly in Assassin's Creed II to match the look of Ezio, whose face also slightly differs from Altaïr's in the first game.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood he has grown a beard and his skin is more pale, similar to the look Ezio gained near the end of Assassin's Creed II.
*Desmond possesses the same scar on his lip as his ancestors Altaïr and Ezio had.
*Desmond and Altaïr share the same age during the first game, both being 25 years of age in 2012 and 1191 respectively.
*Desmond is a descendant of Those Who Came Before and Humans. Proof of this is his Eagle Vision, product of the unification of those two races, which also led to the birth of the first "Assassins", Adam and Eve.
*Desmond has A+ blood type.
*Desmond's history shows he never wanted to be an assassin, nor does he have the skills yet before the second game to be one. However in the graphic novel, included with the limited edition of the first game, he does call himself an assassin and shows skills of stealth and lethality.
*Desmond acquires a Hidden Blade at the conclusion of Assassin's Creed II. The original owner of the blade is uncertain, but it shares the same design as the one Ezio inherited from his father, Giovanni.
*The relationship between him and Subject 16 is currently unknown.
**Due to the fact that Desmond and Subject 16 are both descendants of Ezio, it is certain that they are somewhat blood related.
*The etymology of Desmond's name "The World" (or Man of the World in Celtic and Latin) is not related to either of his ancestors, whereas Altaïr's and Ezio's names pertain to avians; Altaïr's being "The Flying One" and Ezio's "The Eagle". His surname "Miles" is also the Latin word for "Soldier".
**The name however suits him, as he wanted to leave his parents' watchful eyes to see the rest of the world outside the compound, and refers to his role in saving it from destruction.
**Desmond is also known as Subject 17, for he is the 17th person that was used to test the Animus.
*Desmond's hood changes subtly between the events of AC1 and AC2. It visibly begins to take the shape of Ezio's hood, becoming pointier, while in AC1 it was rounder and more similar to Altaïr's. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Desmond's hoodie changes drastically, to look more like Ezio's Master Assassin cloak. It is unknown what his backpack is used for, but it's possible that it contains other weapons or inventory.
*You can see that Desmond and Shaun are always arguing.
*Desmond has grown facial hair in brotherhood similar to that of Ezios towards the end of AC2
The Sanctuary is a location in Assassin's Creed II created by Domenico Auditore as a tribute to the greatest Assassins in history. It is found underneath the Auditore Family Villa, with its entrance concealed behind a tall bookcase in Mario Auditore's study. It is revealed by Mario to Ezio as the game progresses.

It houses seven statues of seven Assassins. Six of these statues are missing seals that must be collected to unlock the seventh statue, and Altaïr's armor.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the Sanctuary serves as the next hideout for Desmond and the other modern Assassins, after the first one was assaulted by Abstergo at the end of Assassin's Creed II.

<br>

*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood he has has grown a beard and his skin is more pale, similar to the look Ezio gained near the end of Assassin's Creed II.
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Desmond's hoodie changes drastically, to look more like Ezio's Master Assassin cloak. It is unknown what his backpack is used for, but it's possible that it contains other weapons or inventory.
*You can see that Desmond and Shaun are always arguing. However, when Desmond exits the animus after sequence 6, they seemingly get along most of the time after that.
Claudia Auditore da Firenze (born 1461) is the sister of Ezio, Federico and Petruccio, the daughter of Giovanni and Maria Auditore, and the niece of Mario Auditore.

Biography
Assassin's Creed: Lineage
Claudia Auditore is a young Florentine girl from a noble family living during the 15th Century in Italy, the Renaissance. She is the daughter of Giovanni Auditore, an Assassin, a "profession" of her father that she doesn't know.

Assassin's Creed II
The day following Ezio's brawl with Vieri de' Pazzi's men, Claudia met with him feeling sad and depressed. She suspected her boyfriend Duccio, of being unfaithful. Ezio convinced her that Duccio was not the one for her and went on to confront him for Claudia.

After the tragic events that befell the Auditore family, Ezio vows to protect her, along with their mother, and escorts them both to the safety of the Villa Auditore. There, her uncle Mario puts her to work keeping a book of finances for the Villa; a task she finds positively scandalous, since it involves "work."

In the official novel 'Assassin's Creed: Renaissance,' Claudia went with Maria to a convent in Monteriggioni for a short time, and took her vows as a noviziata, or novice sister. However, she soon relocated to the Auditore villa and was later married to Mario's "senior captain." She was later pregnant with the Captain's child. This could further add that regardless of gender, it may be the new assassin in Assasin's Creed III.

Characteristics and personality
It is evident that she has been too spoiled by Giovanni, unafraid to be violent when a girl “looked at her boyfriend,” and at times immature, such as when Mario assigned her to manage the Auditore Villa's finances. Regardless, Claudia is very capable of handling and keeping track of the town’s bankroll and her brother's purchases and earnings. She is also kind with her family, being especially emotional over her father and brothers' execution, and her mother’s emotional trauma.
</gallery></center>

Trivia
*Claudia is one of the few noticeable people who appear not to age over the course of the game. She remains at the same desk in the Villa Auditore for 23 years. After she complains about being put to work, her only interaction with Ezio is asking if he is "... [there] to look at the book" of finances.
*Due to her violent streak, Giovanni had to raise her dowry by 1000 florins because she scared off all of her suitors.
*She is Ezio's only sister, and unlike her brothers that were executed in order for Rodrigo Borgia to prove a point to Ezio, she was spared, likely because of her gender.
*When you start earning income from Monteriggioni, Claudia states she will keep any money past the chest's maximum capacity (based on your collectibles and renovations to Monteriggioni), with no explanation of what she intends to do with all that money.

Desmond Miles (born 1987) is the main protagonist of Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and the descendant of a long line of ancestors who swore their allegiance to the Assassin Order.

<br>

*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood he grows a beard and his skin is more pale, similar to the look Ezio gained near the end of Assassin's Creed II.
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Desmond's hoodie changes drastically, to look more like Ezio's Master Assassin cloak. It is unknown what his backpack is used for. It's possible that it contains other weapons or inventory.

Lucy Stillman (born 1987-88) is a member of the Assassin's Order and former genetic memory researcher, working for Abstergo Industries in the Animus project. During her time at Abstergo, she spied on the company and helped Desmond Miles escape the lab. She then aided in Desmond's training to be an assassin, alongside Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane.

Biography
Early life
Before starting work with Abstergo Industries, Lucy Stillman attended a university to study cognitive neuroscience, but was forced to leave when her mentors began to hold issue with her topic of study (considered pseudoscience). Forced out of the university, she applied at a variety of locations and tried close to everything to achieve employment, at one point joking to Desmond, "I was this close to waiting tables."

Eventually, she was contacted by a Dr. Warren Vidic, offering her a position at Abstergo Industries. She accepted the offer, and began working with Dr. Vidic on his Animus project immediately. For the first three years, Lucy was largely responsible for the design of a number of the Animus's functions and interfaces. While Lucy was on fairly cordial and friendly terms with a few other employees at Abstergo, such as Richard, these same individuals were later ordered to have Lucy killed, before Vidic intervened, seeing her as a valuable employee.

Working for Abstergo
Lucy was first seen after she pulls Desmond out of the Animus, seeing that his subconscious would not let him view the specific memory that Abstergo wanted. As Warren explained to Desmond what the Animus does and what genetic memories are, she explained Abstergo's goal without revealing too much information to Desmond.

In between sessions, Lucy asked Desmond questions concerning his past, or answered Desmond's questions with what little she could reveal about Abstergo's goals. Lucy also mentions that he was not the only person Abstergo was detaining, and that she too was an unfortunate captive. She then told him a story of how, in the past, Abstergo had decided to silence her, to keep her from speaking about the Animus; but before her assailants could commit her murder, they were ordered to stand down by Dr. Warren Vidic. She claimed that he had saved her life that day, and she told Desmond not to judge Dr. Vidic so harshly, as he was under a lot of pressure.

As more time passed on, Lucy leaves the access codes behind in Desmond's wardrobe, so that he could finally leave his room. On top of the Animus, Desmond found Lucy's pen, which was also left there for him to find. This gave him access to her computer, in order to read her E-mails. Later, Lucy revealed to Desmond that she to is also an Assassin, and was only undercover to learn more about Abstergo's plans.

When Desmond finished his time in the Animus, reliving the memories of Altaïr, three Abstergo CEO's, along with Warren, decided to kill Desmond, seeing as they had already retrieved the information they needed. Lucy intervened, and convinced them to keep Desmond for more testing, as his memories could still reveal more about the locations of the Pieces of Eden. In turn, she had to leave him behind in the lab.

Escape to the Hideout
Hours passed as Desmond was still trapped in the lab after he had first used his new skill, 'the Eagle Vision.' Suddenly, Lucy rushed inside with blood splatters on her shirt from fighting her way through the Abstergo facility. Lucy told Desmond that there was no time to waste, and that he had to get into the Animus to retrieve the memory core data. Lucy wrote the data on a disk and decided it was time to flee. The two successfully fought their way down the facility, and made it to the parking lot. There, they found themselves confronted by guards. Quickly disposing of them, Lucy told Desmond to go into the trunk of a car "for [his] own protection". When the ride was over, the pair arrived in the Hideout. Before entering the main room, Lucy told Desmond that she had brought him to the Hideout to train to be an Assassin, by using the Animus and its Bleeding Effect to imprint skills through Ezio. Entering the Animus room, Lucy's fellow Assassins, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, introduced themselves to Desmond, and set preparations for the sessions. Later in the day, Lucy evaluated Desmond's progress in between the sessions of Animus 2.0. The night after, Lucy and Desmond talked once more, where Desmond promised that he would protect her.

After Desmond made his new discovery through Ezio from the vault in Rome, the alarm went off as Abstergo invaded their hideout. In a rush, Lucy gave Desmond a Hidden Blade similar to Ezio's, and made her way downstairs. When Lucy encountered Warren Vidic again in the warehouse, he reminded her that he had saved her, which was why she came to work for Abstergo in the first place. Vidic burst out in anger as he stated his disappointment in her for her "betrayal." Both Lucy and Desmond engaged in a fight with the Abstergo guards, and managed to defeat them. Vidic was last seen in the back of a truck, stating that that attack was only the beginning, and flees. When Desmond starts to go after him, Lucy stops him and says that they will bring Vidic to justice for what he has done eventually. Lucy and the others evacuate the hideout, despite having defeated the guards from Abstergo, as their location had been revealed, and Abstergo would most likely be back with reinforcements. They left to hide out in the mountains, while Desmond was preparing to enter the Animus again to continue their search for clues. Meanwhile, Lucy continued to study the session notes to try to figure out what the "Goddess" Minerva meant, and also told Desmond that everything she feared is starting to happen.

Personality
In contrast with Warren Vidic's personality, Lucy is an warm and patient woman with a bright personality. She always lends encouraging words and sympathy towards Desmond Miles, though it obviously irritates him sometimes. At times, when Warren Vidic attempts to force Desmond to go deeper to the Animus memory, Lucy will stop him from going and plead with Vidic to allow Desmond to rest, showing her caring personality.

During Assassin's Creed II, it is shown that she is cunning and resourceful for keeping Desmond's night-time explorations of the Animus room secret, but becomes irate or worried under too much pressure. She becomes sensitive to the death of her collegues like her friend Leila Marino, her role to Subject 16's loss of sanity, and the stress over the death of two more (eight Assassins) teams in the field.

Trivia
* She is modeled after and voiced by Kristen Bell.
* The achievement of "Conversationalist" can be unlocked in the 360 version of the first game by talking to Lucy every time Desmond comes out of the Animus. Note that you must talk to her completely, until she says that she's too busy to talk, or asks if he's tired.
* Lucy's character model is drastically altered between games. In the first Assassin's Creed, she is dressed in appropriate business/work attire. In Assassin's Creed II, her clothes are much more casual, and she has a slightly more curvaceous figure, and different facial structure: larger eyes and lipstick. Lucy's eyes also go from blue-grey to completely blue. .
* In Assassin's Creed II it is revealed that she is a very successful fighter, taking down many Abstergo guards while she and Desmond were escaping the Hideout.
* If you look closely at the end of the Shaun Hastings video on the Videos page, she can be seen wearing a brown leather jacket.
*It's implyed through AC2 that Lucy has feelings for Desmond. Evidence by caring for his well-being due to the Bleeding effectand saying that she's glad he's here after Desmond's training. Desmond on the other hand just sees it as caring for him.

Desmond Miles (born 1987) is the main protagonist of the Assassin's Creed series and the descendant of a long line of ancestors who swore their allegiance to the Assassin Order.

Through e-mails, Desmond learned of a Subject 16 who had suffered from a "bleeding effect" due to prolonged exposure to the Animus, as well as tidbits of information from the outside world.Eventually, with the aid of Lucy, the Assassins learned of Desmond's capture and attempted to liberate him, with the gunfire of their assault being heard through an intercom device, although the rescue attempt failed.

Whoa... Alright, wasn't expecting that...

<br>

Desmond is now able to use all of the skills and abilities his ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze could, both in and out of combat.

*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood he grows a beard, similar to the beard Ezio gained near the end of Assassin's Creed II.
*Desmond seems to have grown the beard of his whilist IN the van. This is seen in a Broterhood screenshot. Either he and the others were in the van for a long time or he did it on purpose to look like Ezio.
}}Don't you recognize me? It's-a-me, Mario!
Mario Auditore (1434 - 1499) was the older brother of Giovanni Auditore and the uncle of Ezio, Federico, Petruccio, and Claudia. Like his brother, he was an Assassin, but prefered combat and group maneuvers over infiltration and stealth. He had become a condottiere, leading a sizable group of mercenaries to fight against the Templars hidden among the local nobility. He proved to be a valuable ally to his nephew Ezio, and trained him to improve his fighting skills in Monteriggioni.

Biography
Early life
As a young man, Mario played an important role in the Battle of Anghiari, where he alerted the condottiero Micheletto Attendolo to dust clouds over the road, signalling a surprise advance on the Florentines by the Milanese troops. The attack was stopped, and the Florentines won the battle. However, after this battle, most of his time was spent defending his home town of Monteriggioni and the Tuscan countryside from persistent Florentine troops determined to seize it.

In 1454, Mario's younger brother Giovanni decided to move to Florence to pursue a career in banking. Mario remained at the Auditore family villa in Monteriggioni, and the two exchanged letters to keep in touch. In one of these letters, Mario defended his decision to stay in Monteriggioni by writing that he "preferred fighting like a man, to filling out balance sheets." It is insinuated that he rarely saw the family after that, as Ezio has little recollection of him.

Training Ezio
While escorting his mother and sister away from Florence, Ezio was ambushed by Vieri de' Pazzi and his soldiers. Mario and his mercenaries saved the trio, and he insisted that they accompany him back to Monteriggioni. Mario told Ezio of his Assassin heritage and that he must be trained so that he can properly fight and defeat the Templars, and protect his mother and sister. He then showed Ezio the inside of his home and the Sanctuary hidden at the back of a bookcase and explained the purpose of The Codex. He soon started Ezio's training to become an Assassin and was also shown to be extremely proud of his Assassin heritage after he stormed off when Ezio announced his decision to take Maria and Claudia to Spain, against Mario's wishes.

&nbsp
Feeling guilty, Ezio rethought his decision and followed Mario to Tuscany to kill Vieri de Pazzi. When Ezio killed Vieri and began to abuse the body, Mario stepped in and urged him to have respect for the dead. "You are not Vieri," he said to Ezio. "Do not become him." Then, addressing Vieri's body, he delivered a short monologue before uttering the words "requiescat in pace (rest in peace)," a term that Ezio adopted for further assassinations.

The Apple of Eden
In 1487, Mario and the other Assassins helped Ezio recover and defend the Piece of Eden from Rodrigo Borgia in Venice. After securing the Piece of Eden, Mario studied it alongside Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Ezio. When the Apple was activated, Mario and Machiavelli were both affected and collapse, holding their heads. Mario recognized its great power and told Ezio to protect it by taking it to Forlì. Mario then invited Leonardo to the Villa Auditore in Monteriggioni.

When Ezio obtained 50 feathers and placed them in the chest in Maria's room, Mario entered and attempted to stop Ezio from continuing on what Mario considered to be a vain effort.

Mario was there when Ezio placed all of the Codex pages in the wall of the Auditore Family Villa. Together with the other Assassins, he found out that the Codex pages showed a map of all the locations in the world. Ezio then continued on to Rome, where he attacked Rodrigo Borgia and his men. Ezio eventually spared Rodrigo, but recovered the Staff of Eden from him and discovered the Vault.

Death
Some time after Ezio returns to the villa from Rome, Monteriggioni was attacked by Cesare Borgia and his men. Mario quickly met with Ezio and told him to protect the city in any way possible and that he would keep the Apple safe with him. However, Mario became wounded and was captured by Cesare. Mario, who walked back to the city, collapsed at the city gate, followed by Cesare Borgia and his lieutenants. Cesare, holding the Apple in his hand, shot Mario as an 'invitation' from his family to Ezio's.

Personality and characteristics
Mario dresses in the flamboyant style of the Italian nobility of the Renaissance, sports long, dark hair that he slicks back neatly, and has a scar over his left eye, which he is also blind in. He is a boisterous man, and makes no apologies for his passion for fighting and alcohol. He cares deeply for his brother and his brother's family, and is extremely proud of his Assassin heritage. From his letter to Giovanni and their differences in fighting styles, it can be assumed that he was often playfully critical of his brother, much like his nephew Federico is with Ezio.

Upon close inspection, one notes that Mario often puts his hand on the shoulder of the person he's speaking to, presumably as a sign of closeness/affection.

Trivia
*After rescuing Ezio from Vieri de' Pazzi, Mario identifies himself by saying "It's-a me, Mario!" This is a reference to Nintendo's video game mascot, Mario, and his most famous spoken line.
*The logo of the Assassins is embroidered/stitched onto the leather of Mario's left shoulder pad. The Auditore coat of arms is also stitched onto the cape he wears.
*Mario's date of birth as listed in the Database as 1434. It also says that Mario took part in the Battle of Anghiari, which took place in 1440, making him only 6 years old at the time.
*He is often referred to as ubriacone ("drunkard" in Italian) by the Pazzi.
*Although Mario lives in the villa, you only get to see him during missions or when you place your 50th feather in Maria's box.
*Mario evidently prescribes to the idea of a geocentric universe.
*In a gameplay video for Brotherhood, it can be noted that Mario has grey hair, indicating he has aged significantly.
*He was possibly 65 years old when he died.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze (born 1459) was a Florentine noble during the Italian Renaissance and, unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, an influential member of the Assassin's Order. A descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and the ancestor to both Desmond Miles and Subject 16, Ezio was unaware of his Assassin heritage until he was 17 years old, when, following the murder of his father and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio, Ezio fled from the Italian province of Florence - his hometown - and took refuge in the town of Monteriggioni in the Tuscan region at the Auditore Family Villa.

After being mentored and trained by his uncle Mario Auditore, Ezio proceeded on his quest for revenge against the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the executions of his father and two brothers. During his quest for revenge, Ezio managed to not only unite pages of Altaïr's Codex for the first time since Domenico Auditore, but also to save the cities of Florence and Venice from the Templars' wrath, ensure the future travels of Christoffa Corombo to the "New World," and bring the Renaissance ideals and Assassin Order to the city of Rome.

Biography
Early life
Ezio Auditore da Firenze was born in Florence in 1459 AD, the second son of Giovanni and Maria Auditore. Until the age of 17, Ezio lived a life of luxury as a member of the Florentine noble class, unaware of his father's allegiance to the Assassin Order. As a youth he was an apprentice to Giovanni Tornabuoni, a great banker, presumably to learn the ropes of banking, so that he could become the leader of the Auditore bank.

In the year 1476, Ezio, his older brother Federico and friends of the family got into a fight with Vieri de' Pazzi and his gang. Ezio single-handedly defeated several members of the opposing gang, but Vieri managed to escape the scene before Ezio could do anything to him. During the fight, Ezio gained a cut on his lip, so Federico suggested that they visit the local doctor. After looting several people left unconscious from the fight, the two brothers ran across the rooftops to the Doctor.

After the doctor had tended to his wound, a church nearby caught the eye of the brothers and Federico suggested a race. Ezio won and together the two looked out over the city. Realizing that they were nearby, Ezio travelled to the house of Cristina Vespucci and spent the night with her. Caught by Cristina's father the morning after, Ezio fled from a group of pursuing guards before meeting with his father at the Palazzo Auditore. Giovanni scolded him (but later softens, and admits that he is reminded of his own youth) and assigned him the task of delivering several letters to his contacts.

After returning home, Ezio found his distraught sister crying after discovering her boyfriend had been unfaithful. After obtaining his whereabouts, Ezio beat the man and warned him to stay away from his sister. Upon returning to the palazzo again, his little brother Petruccio asked Ezio to collect eagle feathers from the rooftops, as he was ill and couldn't leave the house or get out of bed. After a tiring search for feathers, Ezio's mother secured his services in picking up some paintings from a young artist that she patronized, Leonardo da Vinci. On the walk home, Leonardo struck up a conversation, beginning a friendship between the two young men that would last throughout their adult lives.

Arrest and execution of his family
After completing his errands, Ezio returned home to find the house ransacked, his father and brothers missing and his mother and sister hiding. Learning that city guards had been ordered to arrest Giovanni and all of his sons, Ezio made his way to the Palazzo della Signoria, where his father and brothers were being held. Climbing the building and speaking to his father through his cell window, Ezio was instructed to find a chest hidden in his office, to take everything out of it and to deliver a sealed letter to Uberto Alberti, Lorenzo de' Medici's personal assistant and a close friend of the Auditore family. Doing so, Ezio found the Assassin robes that he would wear for the next 23 years and the letter containing details of a plot against the city of Florence and the Auditore family. Ezio brought the incriminating documents to Alberti and was assured that his family would be released the following day when the information was presented as evidence of their innocence.

The next day, Ezio returned to the Piazza della Signoria to find Alberti presiding over the execution of the Auditores (watched over all the while by a mysterious stranger who had been present with Alberti the previous night). Giovanni claimed his innocence, citing the information given to Alberti as evidence. But Alberti denied any knowledge of such information. Ezio's efforts to prevent the execution were ultimately in vain, and he could only watch helplessly as his father and brothers were hung. When he attempted to charge the scaffold to avenge his kinsmen, Alberti ordered the city guards to murder him. At the urging of one of Giovanni's friends, a thief, Ezio fled the Piazza della Signoria and sought shelter in a brothel, run by the sister of the Auditore housemaid, a courtesan named Paola.

Paola, who unbeknownst to Ezio was an Assassin herself, agreed to assist Ezio in his quest for vengeance, teaching him how to survive in the city as an outlaw through pickpocketing and blending in crowds. She further directed Ezio to Leonardo da Vinci to repair the Hidden Blade of the late Giovanni Auditore, but did not notice that Ezio was being watched. At Leonardo's workshop, a guard banged on the door, ordered Leonardo outside, and tried to beat Ezio's location from him. Ezio realized something was wrong and crept up behind the guard, stabbing him from behind. After Leonardo had thanked him, Ezio sought out and assassinated Alberti in the courtyard of the Basilica of Santa Croce, stabbing him multiple times in the chest before proudly proclaiming the survival of the Auditore family to everyone present, marking Alberti as his first assassination.

Start as an Assassin
Now the most wanted man in Florence, Ezio fled the city with his mother and sister in the hopes of making their way to Spain, stopping beforehand at the Auditore family's villa in the town of Monteriggioni for shelter. During their travel to Monteriggioni, the three were accosted by Vieri de' Pazzi and his followers, but were saved by the timely arrival of Ezio's uncle, Mario, and his Mercenaries. Mario informed Ezio of the existence of the Assassins, in an obvious attempt to induct him into the Order, revealing that many of his ancestors, including Giovanni, were part of it. However, Ezio refused his ancestry, wishing only to continue his journey to Spain to ensure his mother and sister's safety. Enraged, Mario left Monteriggioni for the city of San Gimignano, where Vieri de' Pazzi had been located, in the attempt to relieve Monteriggioni of continual assaults by his minions. Guilt-ridden and knowing his presence was a primary reason for the ongoing attacks, Ezio traveled to San Gimignano to accept Mario's offer.

When Ezio arrived outside the city, he joined Mario and his mercenaries in their assault, waiting until nightfall to make their way to Vieri de' Pazzi by killing guards patrolling near the city gates. After witnessing a brief meeting between Rodrigo Borgia, Jacopo de' Pazzi, Francesco de' Pazzi and Vieri, Ezio made for his foe; while Mario and his mercenaries kept Vieri's thugs distracted, Ezio challenged and fought Vieri for the last time, eventually overpowering and killing him after a brief duel. Ezio tried to extract a confession from his old enemy, but to no avail as Vieri chose to be snide even to the very end. Infuriated by this, Ezio flew into a rage and insulted Vieri's corpse, continuing until his uncle calmed him down, and reminded him of a tradition of the Assassins: showing respect to those they have killed.
Killing the Pazzi
Following Vieri's death, Ezio returned to Florence in 1478 to gather information from La Volpe and prevent the planned Pazzi takeover, as well as the deaths of Lorenzo de' Medici and Guilani de' Medici. Arriving too late to save Guilani, Ezio managed to prevent the death of Lorenzo, the ruler of Florence, and restored his family's good name. However, the Pazzi had already succeeded in their plan and brought the city into a state of civil war. After escorting Lorenzo to safety at his palazzo, Ezio learned from Lorenzo's lieutenant Poliziano the location of Francesco de' Pazzi at the Piazza della Signoria. As Pazzi and Medici troops battled in the streets below them, Ezio chased down and slew Francesco, although Jacopo de' Pazzi and several other conspirators were able to escape the city. Shortly afterwards, the Medici publicly cleared the name of the Auditore family and provided Ezio with the names of the conspirators who had escaped.

Learning that the Pazzi conspirators had fled to San Gimignano, Ezio tracked down and killed Antonio Maffei, Stefano da Bagnone, Bernardo di Bandino Baroncelli and Francesco Salviati, extracting from each man information on Jacopo de' Pazzi's hiding place. Using the information, Ezio located his quarry and tracked Jacopo to an ancient Roman theatre. Once there, Ezio eavesdropped on a meeting between Jacopo, Rodrigo Borgia and a Venetian merchant, Emilio Barbarigo. After fatally wounding Jacopo for his failure to capture Florence, Borgia revealed that he was aware of Ezio's presence. While Borgia and Emilio fled, Ezio was apprehended by Borgia's bodyguards, but he overpowered and killed them, before swiftly putting the dying Jacopo out of his misery.

With the Pazzi conspiracy ended, Ezio returned to Lorenzo in 1480 and declared his success. Before leaving the city for Venice, Ezio was granted a gift; a Medici cape, that would keep the city guards' attention from him. Ezio then made his way to Leonardo's workshop, only to find that he had just left for Venice himself. Meeting with Leonardo in the Appennine Mountains, Ezio accompanied him to the city of Forlì, narrowly avoiding the Templar soldiers sent after them by Rodrigo Borgia.

Eventually arriving in Forlì, one year later, the two made their way to the city docks, where Ezio was refused passage without a pass. It was at this moment that the two heard the screams of a noble lady stranded in the city's wetlands. Ezio swiftly hastened to her rescue and was able to row the woman ashore. The lady introduced herself as Caterina Sforza and coerced the dockman into granting Ezio passage to Venice. Once in Venice, Ezio and Leonardo were given a brief tour of the city by Alvise before Ezio began to seek a way into the Palazzo of Emilio Barbarigo, although this effort proved to be in vain. Suddenly pushed aside, Ezio watched as a gang of thieves attempted and failed to breach the Palazzo, leading Ezio to subsequently aid the thief Rosa, who had been shot through the leg with an arrow. After successfully escaping the city guards, Ezio was introduced to the leader of the Venetian thieves guild, Antonio, and together, they concocted a new plot to kill Emilio Barbarigo and liberate the merchant district.

The plot, taking place during 4 years, was successful and gave Ezio the name of another Templar conspirator – Carlo Grimaldi. A government official and member of the Council of Ten, Carlo was close to Giovanni Mocenigo, the Doge of Venice and hoped to turn him to the Templar cause. Overhearing another meeting between Borgia and Carlo, Ezio uncovered a plot to poison the Doge and replace him with Marco Barbarigo. Returning to Antonio, he sought to find a way into the Palazzo Ducale. The pair searched the front gates, the rear walls and even passing over the Basilica di San Marco; but they were hampered at every turn. Returning to the piazza below, an enraged Antonio remarked that only birds might get into the Doge's palace, reminding Ezio of Leonardo's flying machine, which he had seen on the way to Forlì. After a somewhat unsuccessful test flight, Leonardo came up with a way to ensure that Ezio reached his destination.

After removing the city guards at four separate locations, Antonio's thieves proceeded to light massive bonfires throughout the city, giving Ezio the lift Leonardo's flying machine needed to make it to the Palazzo Ducale. The plan worked, and Ezio breached the Palazzo Ducale, although he was too late to save the Doge. Carlo fled the scene, crying out that Ezio had assassinated the Doge, only to meet his own end at Ezio's hands moments later. However, Ezio was now the most wanted man in Venice and was forced to flee the city guards. Returning to Leonardo's workshop for help in 1486, Ezio was directed to Sister Teodora's brothel, where Antonio was hiding. Under the cover of Carnevale, Ezio made his way to the brothel and began planning the death of Marco Barbarigo, competing in the four games of the Carnevale to win the golden mask that would gain him entrance to Marco's private party. Ezio was successful but found that Marco's cousin, Silvio Barbarigo and Marco's personal slave-bodyguard, Dante Moro intimidated and bribed the judges into denying him his prize. However, Ezio was successful in regaining the mask from Moro and managed to infiltrate the Doge's personal party and assassinate Marco with an ingenious new weapon, leaving the door open for Agostino, a Barbarigo not involved with the Templars, and an ally of Antonio's, to legitimately become Doge.

With his quest nearly at an end, Ezio tracked down Silvio Barbarigo and Dante Moro, who had occupied the Arsenal with an army of mercenaries. Needing a force of his own, Ezio was directed to find the mercenary leader, Bartolomeo d'Alviano, only to find Silvio's thugs had attacked Bartolomeo's headquarters and captured him and a number of his soldiers. Ezio swiftly located and liberated Bartolomeo and his soldiers; once he learned of Ezio's purpose, the mercenary captain was more than willing to assist in Silvio's destruction. Having tracked the Templars down to the city's Arsenal, Ezio managed to storm the building with the help of Bartolomeo and his men, and killed Dante Moro and Silvio Barbarigo in the ensuing battle. However, he was astonished to learn that the plot to remove the Doge was merely a distraction, so that the Templars could move their vessel to Cyprus, although the reasons for this were unknown to Ezio.

Induction into the Order
Two more years passed before word of the Templar vessel reached Ezio once again on his twenty ninth birthday, when Rosa brought him a shipping manifest detailing the return of the ship that very day. Sneaking into the Arsenal, Ezio watched as a Templar soldier carrying a Piece of Eden disembarked from the ship and made his way to a Templar base in the city. Following the soldier, Ezio assassinated and impersonated the guard, carrying the Piece of Eden to a meeting with Rodrigo Borgia himself. Finally able to confront the man ultimately responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers, Ezio criticized the Templar Grand Master for the non-appearance of the supposed "prophet" detailed in the Codex prophecy. Borgia responded, proudly naming himself the prophet before engaging Ezio in battle. The battle was short, and Ezio easily bested the Templar. On the backfoot, Borgia called upon the city guards and taunted the Assassin, saying that "his people" had failed to show up.

At this very moment Mario Auditore, Antonio, Paola, Teodora, La Volpe and Bartolomeo d'Alviano appeared, driving off Borgia and revealing themselves to Ezio as Assassins. With the arrival of Niccolò Machiavelli, it was revealed to Ezio that he was in fact the supposed "prophet", and that for the past decade they had all worked together to induct Ezio into the Assassins Order. That night, they all met again and Ezio was formally inducted into the Order.
Shortly after his induction, Ezio met with Mario and Niccolò, and travelled to Leonardo da Vinci's studio, hoping he could shed some light upon the strange artifact Borgia had dubbed "the Apple". Leonardo examined the unique device, commenting that the metal it was made of should not exist, and that its design was highly advanced despite its age. Briefly touching the Apple, Ezio accidentally activated the device, which started to glow and show strange holographic images. De-activating the device, Niccolò announced that he had arranged for the Piece of Eden to be held in the Rocca di Ravaldino, protected by an ally of the Assassin's, Caterina Sforza. Niccolò and Ezio met with Caterina in Romagna, just outside the city of Forlì. After briefly discussing the Apple, the three made their way back to the city, only to find that it had been invaded by the Orsi brothers; Checco and Ludovico.

As the group fought its way to the city's locked gates, Ezio managed to find another way inside and opened the gates, allowing them to continue their way to the Citadel. Reaching the Rocca di Ravaldino, they found out that two of Caterina’s children, Ottaviano and Bianca, were in the hands of the Orsi brothers, who had recently arrived and begun attacking the Citadel. Repelling the attack, Ezio left the Apple in Caterina's hands, before going to rescue her two children.

Making his way into Romagna, Ezio overpowered the guard detail assigned to imprison Bianca, who directed Ezio to her brother Ottaviano. As Bianca fled back to the city, Ezio made his way the the lighthouse upon which Ottaviano was being held by Ludovico himself. Climbing the tower, Ezio dispatched Ludovico and freed Ottaviano, though not before learning that the kidnapping was a distraction, which had allowed the brothers to steal the Apple. Ezio swiftly tracked down and killed Checco Orsi and his remaining men. Retrieving the Apple, Ezio failed to notice that Checco had stabbed him in the abdomen. Injured, Ezio collapsed to the floor, the Apple rolling from his hand. Before losing consciousness Ezio saw a monk with a missing finger pick up the Apple and walk away, despite Ezio's warnings against doing so.

Caterina’s guards later found Ezio next to Checco’s corpse and returned him to Forlì, where Caterina nursed him back to health. Returned to his senses, Ezio, now bearded, hurriedly explained to Caterina that the Apple had been stolen from him by a man in black. She recognized him for a monk and told Ezio to search for the monk at the church outside the city walls. There was no sign of the monk, but Ezio met with Brother O’Callahan, who told him to continue his search at San Vincenzo, in central Forlì. An abbot there identified Ezio as Stefano de Bagnone's killer and ran away, but was intercepted, and, once convinced he was not about to die, gave Ezio the name of the four fingered monk: Girolamo Savonarola.

While trying to locate Savonarola, Ezio was told by a Thief to meet Antonio at the Thieves' Guild in Venice. Upon arriving there, Ezio found Antonio accompanied by another man, Luis Santangel. Luis was looking for a good "killer" who could oversee a meeting involving Luis' friend Christoffa Corombo, but Ezio expressed no interest. However, when he heard that Rodrigo Borgia was also involved in the meeting, he rushed to Christoffa's location, finding out that it was a trap. However, he managed to save Christoffa, who explained that Rodrigo was interested in his plans to sail west. Soon afterwards, Ezio met with Antonio again, who told him to go see both Luis and Christoffa in the gardens district.

They then told him that the Templars were in possession of Christoffa's atlas, which featured the journey's route. Ezio quickly recovered the atlas and brought it back to Christoffa and Luis. Luis informed Ezio of the presence of Spanish Assassins, who were held captive by the Spanish Inquisitor General, Tomas Torquemada. Thinking it his mission to rescue them, Ezio temporarily diverged from his goal to reclaim the Apple of Eden and set out to Spain, but not before Antonio gave him the names of two of his contacts.

After arriving in Spain and briefly losing his sword to a thief, Ezio went on to look for one of the contacts. When he arrived at the location, he met a man who called himself Raphael Sanchez and soon after revealed himself to be an Assassin. He informed Ezio of the location of the first captured Assassin, and Ezio rushed to save him. Right before the Assassin could be burned by the Inquisitors, Ezio killed all the guards and freed him. After Ezio's return, Raphael revealed that it was Gaspar Martinez who was ordered to capture the Assassins by Torquemada. Ezio located Gaspar and found him, Torquemada and a guard surrounding a captured Assassin.

Torquemada revealed to the captured Assassin, and indirectly to Ezio, that Rodrigo Borgia had ordered him to capture Assassins in Spain, because they were "non-believers" (in the Catholic religion). After the guard killed the Assassin, the group disbanded and Gaspar was left unguarded. Ezio then met with him and asked him what he knew of the Templars, but Gaspar feigned ignorance and said that they "went away two centuries ago." He fell silently to Ezio's blade, and Ezio acquired a list of six other Assassins' names.<br />
After freeing the first man on the list, Ezio took him back to Raphael, informing the latter of the existence of the list. However, all the remaining Assassins were located in Zaragoza.

Once in Zaragoza, Raphael told Ezio to find the Inquisition's Calficador, Pedro Llorente, whose tribunal met at the far side of town. Arriving there, Ezio found that Torquemada was also present. One of the Assassins was being tried, and after he refused to convert and confess, was killed. Ezio eavesdropped on the ensuing conversation and found out that Torquemada was under orders from Rodrigo Borgia to arrest the Assassins. He hurried to locate the remaining five Assassins. Four of them where held captive inside some catacombs. The last was held inside a church. After securing their safety, Ezio killed Pedro Llorente. Returning to Raphael, he requested to return to Italy. However, Raphael still needed some help against the Inquisitors in Granada. Ezio complied, helping to assassinate a Templar spy in the city and discovering along the way that Luis Santangel was also an Assassin.

Once again he excused himself to return to Italy, but disturbed again by the Templars. He is forced again to fight off the Templars to defend Luis, and informed that Raphael has been captured. Ezio fights to rescue Raphael, then finally infiltrate Torquemada's fortress. Torquemada escapes, but Ezio still have duties for the Piece of Eden and decide not to pursue him, Ezio excuses to finally return to Italy and Telling Luis and Raphael to tell him when Christoffa returns from his journey to find the "New World."
The Bonfire of the Vanities
After Lorenzo de’ Medici's death, Savonarola was able to easily take control over Florence with the Apple of Eden at his command. He taught the population of Florence that personal property and knowledge made the difference between the rich and the poor. Therefore, he burned everything related to the Renaissance in the Bonfire of the Vanities.

Ezio and Niccolò Machiavelli wanted to put a stop to Savonarola's rule with the aid of their two comrades in the city, Paola and Volpe. Ezio began eliminating the monk's brainwashed followers while Niccolò, Paola, and Volpe organized a riot in the city. Soon after Ezio killed Savonarola's followers, the rioters formed an angry mob and went to the Palazzo Pitti, where Savonarola resided, demanding an end to the bonfires. Savanarola tried to use the Apple to quell the riot, but before he could, Ezio threw a knife at him, knocking the Apple out of his hand. In the ensuing chaos, the Apple was picked up by a guard in service to the Borgia (the Templars had also been trying, without success, to recover the Apple from Savonarola). Ezio followed him, killed him and recovered the Apple. Savonarola was then sentenced to be executed in the same way he had dealt with the city's knowledge: burned at the stake on the Piazza della Signoria. However, Ezio decided that no one should have to die in such agony. The Assassin leapt onto the execution platform and put Savonarola out of his misery. He then looked at the stunned mob and gave a speech to them, urging them to follow their own path and rely on their own thoughts, not what they were told by the ones in power. He then left with Mario, Niccolò, Paola and La Volpe, ready to uncover the answers hidden within the Apple.
Infiltrating the Sistine Chapel
The following year, in 1499, the Assassins came together once more at the Villa Auditore, with the Piece of Eden and the completed Codex in hand. Using the two objects, they discovered the location of the Vault to be in Rome, specifically, beneath the Vatican. Unfortunately, Rodrigo Borgia had become Pope in 1492, although Mario believed he had only done so to gain access to the Papal Staff, another of the Pieces of Eden. Undeterred, Ezio went to assassinate Rodrigo Borgia.

Fighting his way along the entire length of the Passetto di Borgo, Ezio snuck into the Sistine Chapel and struck at Borgia from above. As he was about to deal the killing blow, Borgia surprised him by using the Staff to blast him away and drain the energy of those in the room. Since Ezio held the Apple, he was immune to the Staff's effects, and the two engaged in a duel. Ezio repeated history by using the same technique Al Mualim utilized in his duel against Altaïr in 1191, by creating multiple illusions of himself with the Apple. Ezio seemingly bested Borgia, but the Pope overcame him. Borgia took the Apple, stabbed Ezio in the abdomen and left him to die before fleeing into the Vault. However, Ezio's wounds were not fatal, and he was able to give pursuit. Outside the Vault, Ezio watched as Borgia tried in vain to open it. Laying down his arms, Ezio challenged and defeated Borgia in a fist fight, obtaining possession of both the Staff and the Apple, but refusing to take Borgia’s life, having realised the futility of revenge.

Entering the Vault, Ezio stood in shock as he was confronted by a hologram of an individual naming herself "Minerva" and claiming to be one of "Those Who Came Before". Ezio was further confounded when the hologram sought to speak to an unseen figure named Desmond, before disappearing abruptly, leaving Ezio with many unanswered questions.

Siege of Monteriggioni
Following his experience in the Vault, Ezio returned to Monteriggioni. However he soon learned that the Templar threat had diminished little when Cesare Borgia, the son of Rodrigo and a high ranked Templar, laid siege to Monteriggioni. His army of soldiers, towers and cannons breached the city's gates and destroyed much of the city and Villa. Ezio, who was sleeping with Caterina Sforza at the time of the attack, was shocked when a cannonball shot through his wall and hit the centre pillar of his room. He quickly got dressed and met with Mario to discuss their options. Mario tasked Ezio with keeping the Templars from the city walls, whilst Mario himself led the evacuation of the city .

Ezio made his way to the city walls, and using the cannons, destroyed several of Cesare’s siege engines. Eventually however, the Templars breached the city gates, and entered, bringing a mortally wounded Mario Auditore and a captured Caterina Sforza with them. Standing at the city gates, the Apple of Eden in his hand, Cesare 'invited' Ezio to come to Rome with a shot of his firearm; the shot killed Mario. The Apple in hand, Cesare returned to Rome whilst Ezio, who had been shot by a Borgia harquebusiers atop the city walls, blacked out and fell off the building he was observing the situation from .

Upon regaining consciousness, Ezio travelled to Rome to avenge Mario's murder at the hands of Cesare.

Return to Rome
In 1503 Ezio arrived in Rome and found the city in disrepair and under the iron fist of Cesare Borgia &ndash; son of the Pope. Basing himself on Tiber Island, in the centre of the city, Ezio rebuilt the complex into his new headquarters and begun his renewed war against the Knights Templar. Together with a group of apprenticed Assassins, he staged an open attack on the Templars at the Pantheon in public, ignoring the tenets of the old Assassin order, where the Assassins must be discrete and never jeopardize the order.
Initially, Ezio was a young Florentine nobleman, who lived during the 15th and 16th Century. Unlike his ancestor Altaïr, he was brought up without knowing of the Assassins' existence, or of his heritage. A seducer of women and a playful man, Ezio possessed acrobatic skills beyond his peers, save for his brother. He came from an affluent background and had many friends until the deaths of his father and brothers drove him out of Florence. Forced to protect his mother and sister, Ezio became an Assassin, exacting revenge on the conspirators who had betrayed his family and plotted to seize both Florence and Venice .

Ezio often allowed his emotions to overcome him, going so far as to disrespect the corpse of Vieri de' Pazzi just after his death. However, Ezio did manage to gain control of his anger, and by the time he had become a Master Assassin, could control it almost completely.

Equipment and skills
Despite its age, its construction is rather advanced

Ezio Auditore da Firenze was a highly skilled Assassin and a leader amongst the Order. A master of multiple skills, including theft, blending, armed and unarmed combat, stealth assassination techniques, free-running and long-distance combat, he was able to use a variety of weapons including two hidden blades, the longsword, throwing knives and more. Born with the ability to use Eagle Vision, Ezio could instinctively differentiate friend from foe.

An explorer, throughout his quests, Ezio scoured the cities he visited in search of Codex pages and seals from the six assassins tombs spread across northern Italy. The Codex pages allowed Leonardo di Vinci to upgrade his weaponry, including the addition of a wheel lock firearm and poison needle concealed beneath his left hidden blade.

By collecting the six tomb seals, Ezio gained access to the armor created by his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad which may have later been lost during the Siege of Monteriggioni. He also collected capes that helped him stay incognito. The only exception to this was the cape bearing the Auditore family crest, which made him easily recognizable, due to his family's history.

Romantic life
Ezio was known for his good looks, flirtatious nature and predisposition for womanizing. Despite the latter part of his life being centered around his hunt for Rodrigo Borgia, Ezio still managed to find the time to share multiple romantic relationships with a number of different women.

By 1476, Ezio had had many encounters with various unnamed Florentine girls and courtesans before the execution of his family; insulting Vieri de' Pazzi by suggesting that his sister seemed "quite satisfied with the handling he gave her earlier." That year, Ezio was in a permanent relationship of sorts with Cristina Vespucci, against the wishes of her father. Following his street brawl with Vieri de' Pazzi on the Ponte Vecchio, Ezio visited Christina during the night, despite his brother's request otherwise; he was chased out by her father the next morning, and subsequently had to flee the city guards. Two years later, when Ezio returned to Florence, Cristina was married to one of her suitors, Manfredo d'Arzenta, though she admitted to still loving Ezio. Ten years later, when Cristina and Manfredo travelled to Venice for carnevale, Ezio, posing as her husband, wrote to her asking her to come to the Rio Terra degli Ogniscanti; Cristina complied. As both wore carnevale masks, she did not recognise him until he kissed her. She then took off his mask and asked him how he dared kiss her like that, telling him she never wanted to see him again. When Ezio tried to understand, she explained that if he really loved her, he wouldn't simply have let Manfredo marry her. Ezio was deeply hurt upon learning of Christina's death at the hands of Girolamo Savonarola's men, during the Bonfire of the Vanities.

Before meeting with Christina during Carnevale, whilst trying to find a way to Venice, Ezio accompanied his friend, Leonardo da Vinci, to Forlì. He was initially refused passage aboard the ship to Venice, but his fortunes changed after encountering Caterina Sforza, who had become stranded on a small island with no means of escape. Ezio rescued her, and she repaid the favor by granting him passage to Venice. She also told him that the next time he returned to Forli, it would "be her pleasure" to entertain him. Moments later, after Ezio revealed to his close friend that Sforza was a future conquest and his type of woman, Leonardo informed Ezio of the ladies' identity, and that she was married to the Count of the city.

Also, at some point during his time in Forlì, Ezio encountered a girl named Amelia. During this encounter, Amelia and two of her friends were discussing whether anyone could beat their record in a horseback riding race. Ezio took on the challenge, in return for an intimate encounter with Amelia, should he prove successful.

When Ezio arrived in Venice for the first time, an unknown young woman unsuccessfully attempted to pickpocket him. Later the same day, Ezio witnessed the woman and a group of thieves attempting to scale the Palazzo della Seta. The attempt ended in failure, and the girl was shot in the leg by an archer. Ezio intervened, defending her from Emilio Barbarigo's thugs and helping her to get to safety, learning in the process that her name was Rosa, and that she was a member of the city's Thieves Guild. At first, Rosa's attitude towards Ezio was very aggressive and unfriendly, but after he saved her, she became much more amenable.

While trying to acquire the Golden Mask, Ezio was seen flirting with many of Sister Teodora's Courtesans. After the Carnevale challenges, when Ezio goes up to accept the Golden Mask as his prize for victory, he was accompanied by a Courtesan. After assassinating Marco Barbarigo and seeking sanctuary in the brothel, Ezio was known to have flirted with Sister Teodora, who invited several of her girls to "comfort" Ezio.

In 1499, Ezio was seen sleeping with Caterina Sforza in the Auditore villa before it was besieged by Cesare Borgia.

Trivia
*Ezio is 40 years old in 1499 (15 years older than Altaïr's age in 1191); the same age as his father upon his death in 1476.
*Ezio is the character whose physical appearance changes the most over the 23-year period of the game, others look mostly the same.
*If you move the camera to a certain angle, Ezio's face has aged. For example, the beard, and wrinkles on his forehead. His voice does deepen and mature over time, making him sound calmer and talk slower. He also appears to lose his tan over time probably due to the fact that he is in hiding through most of his life.
*Just like Altaïr and Desmond, Ezio has a scar on his mouth, acquired after the mission "Boys Will Be Boys" during Sequence 1, when Vieri de' Pazzi throws a rock at his face.
*Ezio's outfit is can be unlocked in Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which serves as the best outfit in the whole game. It is available via Uplay for 30 points.
*A clear mistake was made in the Brotherhood demo at E3. Ezio was sleping with Caterina Sforza in his room. But during Brotherhood, a bed appears there. Either Ezio brought it up there, although unlikely, or that a bed was originally supposed to b there but cut out.

Domenico Auditore was the great-great-grandfather of Ezio Auditore da Firenze; a descendant of the Assassin Altaïr, and forefather to yet another named Desmond Miles. He lived around the late 13th and 14th Centuries and was the founder of Auditore family Villa in the town of Monteriggioni.

Following his death, Domenico Auditore was buried within the family crypt he had built in the city.

Biography
Domenico was raised in Venice, Italy; subsequently becoming an apprentice sailor for an Adriatic based vessel when he was "barely old enough to walk", before carrying cargo for his father's patron &ndash; Marco Polo. One day, while looking for work in the harbor, he fell in love with a young woman, with whom he would maintain a relationship with whilst he continued to work as a sailor. Eventually, the two married, and a son was born.

One summer's afternoon, his patron called upon him; Domenico arrived to see both his father and an older man dressed in a "strange hooded cape" also there. Domenico's father revealed that he was an Assassin, and as such Domenico himself was destined to follow in his footsteps. The man in the hood &ndash; Dante Alighieri &ndash; would become his master. Dante would teach Domenico the ways of the Assassins, and in return Domenico would give him passage to Spain.

Preparing for the journey, Domenico met with Dante many times, purchasing supplies and talking about important things such as life, love, honor and justice. He taught him that society was set up by its rulers to control the people, to stop them from thinking and seeing the truth. Then, Dante showed him the Codex of Altaïr, his forefather, that Marco Polo had acquired whilst visiting the court of Kublai Khan.

While returning to Ravenna to pick up his belongings, Dante died. Domenico went to announce the news to his father and patron, but before he could say a word, the two revealed that Dante had been murdered by the Knights Templar; they had been watching Dante and sought the Codex, which Dante was due to take to Spain. Domenico's father ordered him to leave immediately for Spain, telling him to take the Codex and his family with him. Marco Polo handed Domenico a small sheet of paper, bearing an Polo's own account number upon it, so that he might draw upon it when necessary.

He set sail the night with a ship filled with cargo to be sold in Barcelona. However, to avoid a coming storm, they were forced to take shelter in the harbour of Otranto. During the night, Pirates under the employ of the Templars snuck aboard the vessel. Domenico didn't see them until they were already aboard the ship. He hid with his family in the hold, broke the codex into pages, and placed them into boxes and containers.

Finding Domenico and his family, the pirates found them, and demanded the codex. Domenico could tell that they were drunk, and told them that he had thrown it overboard. Two of them held him down, whilst the rest raped his wife, before throwing her overboard. They eventually threw both Domenico and his son aboard as well, before stealing the vessels cargo and sinking the ship. Domenico and his son reached the shore, and the next day happened upon the corpse of his wife, which had washed up on shore.

Travelling by land, the two made way to Florence. Using Messer Polo's account, which he had memorised, Domenico rented a small room for his son before travelling to Venice to meet with his father and patron. Journeying in disguise, Domenico discovered that they had already been killed; he returned to Florence the next day. With the account of Marco Polo in his possession Domenice took to studying the classics, taking vocal lessons and collecting treatises on architecture. Impersonating a noble at the Florentine court, he took the name of Auditore and was accepted as a part of the city's nobility.

In the year 1290, Domenico constructed what would become the Auditore Villa in Monteriggioni. He trained his son to become an Assassin; killer of the Knights Templar, just like he was.

In 1296, before his death, Domenico constructed the Auditore family Crypt within the city, leaving his memoirs engraved on stone plaques throughout.

Trivia
*While the in-game database claims that Domenico is Ezio's great-grandfather, Ezio's uncle Mario and the architect that helps the player rebuild Monteriggioni say that Domenico was Ezio's great-great-grandfather. It has been noted that the writer of the database, Shaun, used an incomplete family tree from the British archives as his source, which led to his mistake.
*The actual commune of Monteriggioni was built in 1213 and was mentionned by Dante Alighieri in his "Inferno" while Domenico said Dante had died before he left Venice and built Monteriggioni.
*It's VERY possible that he is a grandson so Altair. It's because that the Villa was built in the very early 1200s, and seeing that Altair was 25 in 1191, he died of old age, possibly meaning that he died during the 1240s. Meaning that Domenico is Genghis Khan's (Altair's son) son (UNCONFIRMED).
