Maybe it's just me, but the "unknown insignia" tattoo looks like it's just the Assassin's Insignia done in a tribal style, since tribal tattoos are one of the more common types of tattoo. I highly doubt it's the modern day assassins' insignia or something. -- LordSchmee

PS: Also edited the claim that Desmond wore an Assassin Insignia tattoo, I don't know if my summary went through so posting the reason here:

Moreover, Desmond would not have an assassin tattoo; he didn't associate with them until his abduction by Abstergo, and has not had the time to get a tattoo since then as he's been stuck in the animus long-term, and in hiding.
