The Dagger of Brutus is a legendary dagger that is available in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, obtained along with the Armor of Brutus. It is said to be the same dagger that Marcus Junius Brutus used to kill Gaius Julius Caesar.

Having this special weapon equipped will strike fear into the hearts of civilians, and will make guards flee faster from fights due to its unique and brutal kill animations. It is the best short blade weapon in the game, with complete 5-star stats. The animations change, from the bone breaking moves to more vicious stabs (for example in one move Ezio stabs the guard on the chest then again in the back and tosses the corpse aside), similar to some of the multiplayer unique kills. Is unlocked by collecting all the Keys of Romulus and unlocking their secret armor.
Trivia
*The Dagger of Brutus is modeled after a Roman Pugio, a type of dagger used as a secondary weapon by Roman soldiers during the 1st Century AD.
*If Ezio wields the Dagger of Brutus, this reduces enemy morale by -20.

Civilians are the common people in the Assassin's Creed series, found abundantly throughout the game worlds.

Assassin's Creed
Peasants are the general denizens of the cities (and the Kingdom) of the Holy Land in Assassin's Creed. Generally, they will do nothing to hurt Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad although there does exist some special variants of peasants that might.

Peasants are programmed to react realistically to Altaïr's actions: watching closely when he enters a fight, making comments as he free runs throughout the city, gasping when he buries any of his blades into an enemy and fleeing when the enemy dies. Peasants can also act as both a shield and a hindrance for Altaïr as he flees. If he runs into enough of them while sprinting, he will lose his balance and fall to the ground, greatly offending those he ran into. However, if he is shoving his way through a crowd, he may keep up his momentum.

If Altaïr murders a peasant, he suffers a large desynchronization due to his disregard for the first tenet of the Creed, but when you have completed the game, he will no longer desynchronize for killing them.

Civilian Types
Some civilians are different from the rest. Some may assist, be a hindrance, or an outright danger.

Beggars
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

In the three cities of Assassin's Creed, a desperate female beggar may pester Altaïr for money, claiming her family is "sick and dying" and "have nothing". They will pester Altaïr for several seconds, before giving up. If you attempt to climb a building to escape them, they will throw a rock at you. If you climb up a ladder however, they will simply walk away without throwing rocks. If you draw any of your weapons, they will run away screaming. In addition, you may throw them in another direction to frighten them. Doing so enough, will get you an Achievement. Another method is to simply punch them once, and send them running. Doing this is much the same as throwing them, but will not (usually) cause the guards to intervene. There is also no Achievement for this method.

Either way, you'll take a very minor hit of desyncronization, but considering the annoyance beggars cause, it might be worth it. Frightening them will cause them to be scared of you for quite some time.

In Assassin's Creed II, beggars will appear in some cities, but will not chase or harass Ezio for money, only leaning against a wall or standing up when Ezio is near them. If you throw money at them, they will pick it all up, thank you, and then walk away. They instead reappear in function as minstrels, who act similarly to the beggars in the first game, except that they do not demand money, but instead run in front of Ezio singing and playing chords on their instruments.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood features the calmer beggars of Assassin's Creed II, as well as the return of the harassing beggars from the original game. Both versions of beggars can be gotten rid of by throwing money at them. This time around, the harassing beggars are usually found in groups of three, all of which are women.

Carriers
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

In the three cities of Assassin's Creed, some peasants may be found walking around carrying something heavy. If you bump into them, they will drop the item and cause a big commotion. To pass by carriers without causing a commotion, they should be gently pushed aside while in Low Profile. The carriers come in two varieties: jar carriers and box carriers. Jar carriers are women carrying around a large jar on their head and box carriers are men holding a box close to their chest.

In Assassin's Creed II, only box carriers appear. They are seen carrying boxes from shop to shop. If you bump into one, they will cause a great deal of commotion, and guards will often come and push you around. Ezio becomes one in the penultimate memory block (not including the DLCs), when he is carrying a box. He cannot use the "gentle push", and knocking over another carrier will cause nearby guards to push Ezio, making him drop the box.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, box carriers once again are the only type of carrier in the game.

Citizens in distress
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

In Assassin's Creed, occasionally, Altaïr can find citizens that need saving within the three cities. They are often being harassed by guards for crimes they did not commit. Altaïr can kill the guards, and in doing so, unlock a group of either Scholars or Vigilantes.

In Bloodlines, Citizens are the similar to their original counterparts, but will reward Altaïr with coins instead of unlocking a specific group.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, citizens that are being harassed by Borgia guards can be saved by Ezio. Once saved, they will give their lives to join Ezio's cause and become an Assassin apprentice.

Scholars
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines

Scholars

Scholars are holy men who walk slowly and silently through the three cities. Having robes similar enough to a Scholar's, Altaïr can blend in with a group of them to escape guards.

In Bloodlines, Scholars do not come in groups and appear even when you have not saved any citizen. Altaïr cannot blend with them.

In Assassin's Creed II, instead of Scholars, there are Monks. Their importance is severely diminished as Ezio can blend in with any crowd, and that they aren't very good pickpocketing targets. Instead, their closest counterpart functionally would be Courtesans, which have the added advantage of moving with Ezio instead of the other way around.

Thugs
Found in: Assassin's Creed
Thugs

Thugs or Courageous Citizens are burly denizens of the three cities. They are the only peasants that will fight you, but only in a fistfight; drawing a weapon will cause them to flee. You can pickpocket Thugs for 5 throwing knives, or defeat them in a fistfight for one. Draw a weapon and kill them, however, and you will get zero knives, as well as desynchronization. Strategy-wise it is better to flee should you start a fistfight with them, as the reward for beating them is hardly worth the effort, as opposed to running away and trying again somewhere else. Thugs will not follow you to the roofs should you choose to escape.

Thugs appear in Masyaf as well, but they have a much different appearance than the other 3 cities. In Masyaf they are far less burly, and take the appearance of Assassin Informants but with darker robes. They act in the exact same way though.

While they do not appear in Assassin's Creed II or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it is worth noting that some civilians will fight you if you are caught pickpocketing. Unlike in Assassin's Creed, however, fist fighting civilians are very easy to defeat. In addition to the fact that Ezio is more proficient in unarmed combat than Altaïr is, fistfighting civilians will back down and flee after the first hit, even if they block it. It should also be noted that in both the Beat Up and Mail Delivery missions in Forlì, gangs of Civilians will engage Ezio in much the same way as the Thugs do in Assassins Creed, and unlike the forementioned civilians, they will require a lot more hits to defeat.

Trouble Makers
Found in: Assassin's Creed

In the three cities, one may find madmen and drunkards. They usually are found babbling, walking through back alleys, and struggling with chronic flatulence. If you get close, they will shove you violently and generally cause a great disturbance. Because Trouble Makers create a commotion when they push you, it can cause you to become Exposed. This can sometimes cause you to fail a side mission, or break your cover as you attempt an assassination. They can also push you into water, instantly killing you.

Just like with beggars, it's suggested that you punch or shove them when you see them, as this will, oddly enough, not arouse suspicion with the guards and is a surefire way to get them off your back. You'll take a hit of synchronization (one unit's worth) but this is a small price to pay to deal with them. However, make sure that there are no Thugs nearby as this will start a fistfight with them.

In Assassin's Creed II, drunkards resemble the ones in the original game in terms of appearance, however, they do not act aggressively.

Vigilantes
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Vigilantes

In Assassin's Creed, Vigilantes are groups of brave, tough men unlocked after saving female citizens. If Altaïr runs past a group of Vigilantes while being chased by guards, the Vigilantes will grab the guards, delaying them greatly. Altaïr can then escape, or take the opportunity to assassinate the guards as they are held back. They are particularly helpful in assassination missions for targets who flee, such as Abu'l Nuqoud.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the vigilantes make a return, acting exactly like vigilantes from Assassin's Creed.

Minstrels
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

In any of the cities in Assassin's Creed II, as well as Rome in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, minstrels will follow Ezio on the streets, playing a song on their lute and singing about Ezio. For better or for worse, they are the beggars of Assassin's Creed II. However, they are slightly less annoying than their Assassin's Creed counterparts. For starters, they are not as desperate or whiny as the beggars of Assassin's Creed, nor will they throw rocks at him if he tries to escape. Secondly, there is a much easier and socially acceptable method to get rid of them than in the previous game: appeasing them by throwing money at them. Just like in the previous game, you can punch them or throw them to cause them to run. Unlike in the previous game, doing these sort of rash actions against them (drawing weapons, punching, etc.) does actually carry a real consequence, as it will cause a 25% increase in Notoriety.

Another method for dealing with them is to knock them over when holding the high profile button, immediately stopping them from singing and blocking your way. Although if done near guards, this may cause a slight amount of Notoriety.

Stealing from a minstrel causes him to drop his instrument.

Pickpockets
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

: Main article: Pickpockets

Pickpockets will come and try to steal your hard earned cash from you. However, they can be deterred simply by looking at them (Ezio has to be facing their general direction; just looking at them with the camera doesn't count). You can see them coming via a red circle and a lock on your minimap. After pickpocketing you, they will head to the roofs to escape you.

Should you get pickpocketed, it is possible to regain your stolen money, as well as a little bonus (500 fl). Simply tackle or punch them. Even if you haven't been robbed, you can still gain at least 500 fl this way, so it might be worth your while to give chase. Your money is automatically recovered should the thief die by falling while you are chasing him. You can also loot them for what they have.

One strategy to "pickpocketer mining" is when they start to approach you, make sure your back is turned. Then at the very last second, turn and tackle them. It may take some practice, but using this method will result in giving them very little to no chance to escape, earning you some easy money.

Be aware that when chasing them, you may have to compete with the rooftop guards to catch them.

Borgia Messengers
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Borgia Messengers

Borgia Messengers behave almost exactly like pickpockets, but with some minor differences. First and foremost, they will not attempt to steal from you. Secondly, they will not show up on your minimap. As such, their only real indicator is the silver wedge above their heads, and their cries to the guards when they flee from you. Third, their payout upon capture is much higher (1500 f), and fourth, to kill them is to make oneself instantly notorious.

The strategy involved in luring pickpockets close to you for immediate capture will not work on Borgia Messengers. Instead, you must rely on blending in, and pure luck to get the drop on them. You can also walk towards him until he is close enough to target him and throw one knife at him to get his money without killing him, if he notices you before he gets in range, wait until he starts to climb to attack.

Just like with Pickpockets, they will often earn the wrath of the rooftop guards. Ironically, Borgia Messengers will try to call out to the guards to stop you.
An easy way to stop them without a chase is by throwing at them while they are running or climbing a ladder, shooting them with the hidden gun will reward you with nothing, unless you loot the dead body

Courtesans
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Found in: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Apprentices

Potential Assassin Apprentices were civilians under the influence of the Borgia, who were often bullied and beaten up by the Guards for fun. When saved by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the civilians seek to eliminate the Borgia influence in Rome and join the Assassin Order as Ezio's personal team of assassins.
Trivia
*Assassin's Creed contains files titled "SnakeCharmer", but no snake charmer exists in the game. This hints that Ubisoft may have originally intended the game to feature snake charmers.
*The NPCs of the civilians in Damascus, Jerusalem, and Masyaf are similar.
*When using eagle vision with in Assassins Creed and Assassin's Creed II, civilians are the only ones that don't glow any color, they are simply grey, because they are not an ally or an enemy.
*In Assassin's Creed II, the player can distinguish between different civilian attributes and types. For instance, a rich civilian will wear more lively and colourful clothes, capes and shoes, all of a very fancy nature. A richer civilian can be pickpocketed for more Florins.
*People celebrating Carnivale are rich civilians, especially the ones that dance.
*The minstrel's florin pouch only contains 10 florins at most.
*Interestingly enough, you see no children walking in the streets, not even with an adult. Ubisoft most likely did this to prevent any foul minded players killing them. The only children found are Ezio's younger brother, Petruccio, Caterina Sforza's children, Bianca and Ottaviano and the lost child in Brotherhood whos mother was captured by Silvestro Sabbatini.
*In Assassin's Creed II, women will often find anything Ezio does to be attractive, commenting how strong, fast, or brave he is throughout the game.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood when you steal from women and if you are detected, they will start to attack you as a male would. In Assassin's Creed II however they run, screaming for the guards.

ADon't slay the messenger, good lord. Have my pouch instead.

Borgia Messengers, also known as Borgia Couriers, appear in the games Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and in the short film Assassin's Creed: Lineage. Upon spotting Ezio, the messengers take flight, performing many free-run actions and acrobatic stunts, such as climbing walls and swinging from posts.

If Ezio manages to catch up to one, he can tackle him or simply throw a Throwing Knife at him for a considerable amount of florins, with about 1,500 florins per messenger. However, if Ezio kills one, his notoriety will automatically increase by 50%; though he can still get the florins if he loots the body. If caught, the messenger begs for his life. After being attacked or left alone for a few moments, the messenger will resume his free-running.

Presumably, the messengers carry important information or funds for Rodrigo Borgia, as they are called Borgia Messengers. They may also be carrying payment to or from some official or ally, explaining the significant amount of florins in their possession.

Interestingly, Archers begin chasing the messenger as well if he climbs onto a rooftop in his flight. This is rather ironic, as messengers often call to the guards for help during the chase. It has also been shown that you can trip them, or throw them off buildings so that they fall to their death, without being penalized for it.

Unlike Pickpockets, who have a red icon, Borgia Messengers are invisible on your map; although you can often find them at city entrances, and they are pointed out by a silver chevron.
For some reason, the messengers often move rather slowly when on flat ground directly after a free-run up the side of a building. They can easily be taken down by a well-aimed throwing knife during these periods.

Trivia
*Intercepting a messenger gains you the Achievement/Trophy "Mailman."
*Perotto Calderon was a Borgia Messenger, but was also secretly an Assassin.
*If you are blended, messengers can't see you, and thus will not run away.
*It is interesting to note that the usual amount of money gained from a messenger, 1503 florins, is also the recorded year of Rodrigo Borgia's death.
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the Borgia couriers reduce dramatically as the player rebuilds Rome. This makes it very difficult to complete the Shop Quest, Venomous.

Rodrigo Borgia (1 January 1431 – 18 August 1503), born Roderic Llançol, later Roderic de Borja i Borja, was the leader of the Templars during the Renaissance in Italy. He was elected Pope from 1492 to 1503 as Alexander VI. His enemies called him "The Spaniard" (due to his Spanish origins) while his Templar followers called him "Maestro" ("Master" in Italian and "Teacher" in Spanish). He was one of the most controversial of the Renaissance popes and his surname (Italicized as Borgia) became a byword for the debased standards of the papacy of that era.

Biography
The Medici were the ruling family in Florence. However, a conspiracy was being plotted in a attempt to overthrow the powerful Lorenzo de' Medici, and Rodrigo Borgia was at the center of it. One night in 1476, Borgia was on his way to leave Florence with few of his men in the dark streets of the city. Suddenly, Giovanni Auditore, an Assassin, intercepted him. Rodrigo fled immediately as the Assassin battled his men. Hidden behind a corner, he saw Giovanni capture one of his men, who later revealed the plotted assassination of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan and a powerful ally of Lorenzo de' Medici, to Giovanni. Giovanni quickly went to stop the attempt, but arrived too late. Rodrigo's and his accomplices' plan had succeeded, and Rodrigo began planning the next move.

Deducing the origin of the Duke of Milan's murderers by looting a Ducat from one of them, Giovanni headed to Venice. There, he intercepted a message from Marco and Silvio Barbarigo to their master, Rodrigo. After having decoded the letter through Uberto Alberti and Father Maffei, Giovanni carried the copied message to Rome, in order to discover who was behind the plots. Upon arriving in the city, he gave the message to a man. In this manner, letter was passed through various hands before arriving at its final destination: Rodrigo's. Rodrigo then headed to see Pope Sixtus IV to obtain military support in order to conquer Florence.

The night before the trial of the Auditore family, Rodrigo was at Uberto's house. Ezio Auditore, one of the sons of Giovanni Auditore, came by to give Uberto his father's letters that would prove him not guilty. Ezio noticed a hooded man (Rodrigo) behind Uberto, but paid no further notice to him. The following morning, Rodrigo attended the judgment of Giovanni and two of his sons. Years later, he would state that Ezio's brothers did not need to die, but he had them killed anyway to make a point to the Assassins and to Ezio. Two years after the Auditore execution, Rodrigo attended a meeting with the Pazzi family in San Gimignano, and with the Templars in a catacomb under the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. There, he reminded them to beware the Assassins, and stated that the next day would be "a new dawn for Florence."

After Ezio thwarted the Templars in Florence, Rodrigo was to meet with the remaining conspirators in Tuscany, wherein the Pazzi would ask for asylum with Rodrigo in either Venice or Rome. However, before the meeting could even commence, most of the conspirators were killed by Ezio, one by one. Only Jacopo de' Pazzi actually made it to the meeting alive. There, Jacopo claimed that the blame rested with his nephew, Francesco, for his impatience, and with Emilio Barbarigo for supplying the Pazzi troops with sub-standard weaponry. Enraged by Jacopo's sniveling excuses, Rodrigo lectured his subordinate on his failure, then stabbed him, aided by an all-too-eager Barbarigo. Ignoring Jacopo's pleas for mercy, Rodrigo stabbed him in the neck, then called out Ezio who had tailed Jacopo to the meeting. Sarcastically apologizing for killing Ezio's target for him, Rodrigo mocked Ezio; saying that he had been doing "this" for far longer than the novice Assassin. He ordered his men to kill Ezio and left without bothering to make sure the deed was done. He might have guessed that Ezio would escape, and chose not to wait around for it.

Rodrigo was later found in Venice, planning with Carlo Grimaldi and the Barbarigos to murder the current Doge, Giovanni Mocenigo, so that one of them could replace him and take control of Venice. He chastised the Barbarigos for making their own plans and arguing over who would be the new Doge after they took Venice. He appointed Marco Barbarigo as the next Doge, and then left them to carry out his plans. While Ezio was hunting the Barbarigos in Venice, Rodrigo was tracking the location of the Piece of Eden that Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad had once taken from the Templars. He sent ships to Cyprus in order to claim it from the Archives where Altaïr had sealed it away before his death. He appeared in Venice to lay claim to the Piece of Eden; but then Ezio, disguised as the carrier of the artifact, attempted to kill him. Rodrigo had expected the attack, and readied himself to deal with Ezio personally. The two began an intense battle, with Ezio ultimately emerging as the victor. Realizing he could not defeat Ezio alone, Rodrigo called in a supply of guards to overwhelm Ezio. Suddenly, many of Ezio's allies appeared, all of whom revealed themselves to be Assassins. They held off the guards to allow Ezio to re-challenge Rodrigo, who then escaped from them before Ezio could kill him.

That same year, Rodrigo found out that Caterina Sforza's late husband had created a map of where all the Codex pages could be found, thus he hired the Orsi Brothers to retrieve it. The Orsi discovered that Caterina also had the Apple, so they laid siege to the city and took the artifact by force, planning to present it to Rodrigo for an extra pay off. Unfortunately for him, Ezio managed to kill both of the Orsi brothers, though the Apple eventually came into the hands of Girolamo Savonarola, an arch-enemy of Rodrigo.

With the Apple, Savonarola took control over Florence after Lorenzo's death. Rodrigo repeatedly sent his men to Florence in the hopes of acquiring the Apple, though he was unsuccessful.

In the following years, Rodrigo fooled the Spanish Inquisitor General Tomas Torquemada into capturing and killing Assassins in Spain. Tomas, who thought Rodrigo was as much as a believer of God as he was, blindly followed his orders. Rodrigo also found out about Christoffa Corombo's plans to sail west; however he, knowing of the presence of the Americas and the treasures that lay there, did not want anybody to find it before he could. Therefore, Rodrigo arranged a meeting with Christoffa in Venice. Christoffa's friend Luis Santangel, in secret an Assassin, suspected a trap and called for the aid of Ezio. Ezio successfully rescued Christoffa, and eventually Christoffa did set sail west.

Rodrigo offered his daughter Lucrezia Borgia to Caterina Sforza's son Ottaviano Riario. Rodrigo figured that, with a son-in-law like Ottaviano, he could control the regions of Forlì and Imola. Caterina declined the offer, as she knew of his plans and that Lucrezia "never stayed married for long." This enraged Rodrigo, and his son Cesare Borgia began an assault on Forlì.

Rodrigo was elected Pope in 1492 and established his power in Rome. Rodrigo's true intent, however, was simply to get into the Vault that lay under the Vatican, where, he believed, God rested.

In 1499, Rodrigo was followed into the Vatican by Ezio, who tried to assassinate him. Ezio snuck into and seemingly assassinated Borgia inside the Sistine Chapel. After Ezio finished speaking with Rodrigo, he left only to see him rise from the ground and use his Piece of Eden, the Papal Staff, to strike down Ezio and everyone else in the room. However, Rodrigo was surprised to see that Ezio was able to resist the power of his staff, as Ezio had brought his own Piece of Eden: The Apple that Altaïr had taken from Al Mualim. Ezio then summoned four clones of himself to assist in his battle against Rodrigo, eventually defeating him. However, Rodrigo tripped Ezio with the Staff, and snatched the Apple from his hands. He then combined it with the Staff to open up the door to The Vault, which had been underneath Rome the whole time. Ezio tried to stop him, but he was lifted into the air by Borgia, unable to resist two combined Pieces of Eden.

Rodrigo stabbed Ezio with a dagger and left him to die on the floor of the Sistine Chapel, before escaping into the Vault. Though injured, Ezio eventually made his way to the Vault, with Rodrigo furiously pounding the door

to the inner chambers. Ezio dropped down into the pit where Rodrigo was, and challenged him to one last fist fight, with no more weapons, no more plots, and no more decoys. Rodrigo accepted and the two had one last battle. During the battle, Rodrigo stated that he had never believed in the Bible or in God, and only became Pope to get the Staff and access to the Vault, wanting to unify Italy under the Templars' rule. Ezio defeated Rodrigo, holding the Pope at blade-point and telling him he was not the Prophet: he had never been.

Broken by this revelation and accepting defeat, Rodrigo told Ezio to kill him and put an end to it. However, Ezio refused, saying that killing him would not bring back his family. Besides, the knowledge that he was not the Prophet, as he had believed, was an even sorer blow than anything else that Ezio could have thought of. When his son Cesare learned of this, he led a siege on Monteriggioni, though without Rodrigo's approval, in order to reacquire the Apple of Eden and kill the last of the Assassins. By this time Rodrigo was reduced to nothing but a figurehead, Cesare ultimately taking over Rome.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio went to Castel Sant'Angelo to assassinate Rodrigo and Cesare, however the former was not there and the latter left before Ezio can kill him. Later on, at Juan Borgia the Elder's pagan party, Rodrigo spoke to Cesare and reprimanded him. The following year, Rodrigo had grown displeased with Cesare's ambition and entitlement, going so far as to seize the castle's supply of cantarella - the same poison he had used for the Doge Mocenigo - and poisoning an apple for Cesare to unwittingly eat. However, Lucrezia Borgia, Cesare's sister and Rodrigo's daughter, discovered the presence of the poison and warned Cesare about it before he could swallow the bite he had in his mouth. Cesare promptly spat it out, before shoving the remaining apple down Rodrigo's throat. Rodrigo died before Ezio arrived, but Ezio arrived to give Rodrigo's final blessing after being killed. Cesare escaped the encounter, however becoming instantly ill in the process.

Trivia
*As Ezio enters the Sistine Chapel to assassinate Borgia, he is proclaiming the Nicene Creed in Latin to the congregation. It is ironic, as the Nicene Creed confesses the wholeness of the Christian doctrine, in which Borgia later states in the final battle that he does not believe.
* Although Ezio did not kill Borgia, he is listed as dead in the Animus' Conspirator Web after the player completes the game and re-enters the Animus. This may be due to Ezio simply listing off Rodrigo as a target.
* Throughout the entire game, Rodrigo is always wearing something that covers his head, where not once is he without a hat or a hood. He does appear without head coverings in Assassin's Creed: Lineage, however.
* In a scene in Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, he can be seen eating an apple, which is perhaps a hint at the Apple he later attempts to gain, as well as the poisoned apple that leads to his death in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
* Rodrigo's cloak from before he becomes Pope resembles Al Mualim's robe from Assassin's Creed. Rodrigo also shares a trait with Al Mualim, as they both keep their hoods up throughout most of their respective games.
* Rodrigo is the only assassination target Ezio has had to fight repeatedly in Assassin's Creed II, as well as one of only two that he spared (the other being Tomas Torquemada). He is also the most formidable fighter in Assassin's Creed II.
* It is possible to kill Rodrigo while in the Sistine Chapel if you poison him. After this you can wield the Staff of Eden, although you cannot use any of its powers.
* Rodrigo's fate differs in the novel, Assassin's Creed: Renaissance to that shown in the game. In the game, after Ezio defeats and spares him, Borgia is left alone to come to terms with his misery as Ezio enters the Vault. He is not seen again, and it is presumed that he still lives. In the novel, however, when Ezio emerges from the Vault, Borgia commits suicide with poison. His last act is to ask Ezio what he saw in the Vault, to which Ezio replies "Nothing. No one," leading Borgia to die believing everything he had done in life was for nothing. However, in the novel for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood he survives this, and Mario suggests that he didn't take enough poison, or that he was faking.
* In Rodrigo's assassination target video, there is a scene with Rodrigo in his Papal robes standing next to his fellow Templars, who are seated at a table. This is impossible, because by the time Rodrigo became Pope, Ezio had killed all the other Templars in the game. The Pazzi, the Barbarigos and Carlo Grimaldi, for example, are shown at the table.
* Rodrigo had numerous children: Cesare, Lucrezia, Giovanni, and Gioffre from his mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei, a daughter, Laura, from his mistress Giulia Farnese, and an unknown number of children from other mistresses.
* He was the first pope to be elected from a conclave in the Sistine Chapel.
* Sometimes, during the fight with Rodrigo, he can be seen wielding a spear instead of the Staff.
* He is an ancestor of virtually all royal families in Europe through his children Lucrezia and Juan.
* It is mentioned in Assassin's Creeed: Brotherhood that Rodrigo had crafted all his children, even Lucrezia, into deadly weapons, showing his manipulative personality.
* In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Rodrigo had only two appearances in the game. He only showed himself in Sequence 5 and Sequence 8 and on both occasions, it was to speak with Cesare.
* By paying attention to his actions and words, it seems Rodrigo had given up on killing Ezio, for he didn't agree on the attack on Monteriggioni and blames Cesare for all the deaths Ezio caused. It is as if he wishes for a truce among himself and the assassin, yet still wants to remain as the main power of Rome.
* Rodrigo Borgia is far more cautious in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood than Assassins Creed II. In Assassin's Creed II, he is unprincipled and unscrupulous to reach his goals and in Brotherhood he is more cautious and often dissaproves of Cesare's invasions saying that Cesare is destroying the balance of power he had worked so hard to tighten, he realizes that Cesare's ambitions can destroy the Borgia family, and devises a plan to kill him, showing he wants to end Cesare's wars, however the plan backfired and he was then killed by Cesare.
* Rodrigo died in 1503 at the age of 72, which is also the password for the vault under the Colosseum.
