'''Saracens''' refers to the Sunni Muslim armies (led by [[Saladin]]) involved in the [[Third Crusade|Crusades]] (although it can be used to refer to Muslims or Arabs in general). During the time period revisited in ''[[Assassin's Creed]]'', Saracens are defending the Holy Land from the Christian [[Crusader]] invaders, who seek to reclaim it in the name of [[Jesus Christ|Christ]].

Although the [[Crusaders]] have had some victories (most notably the retaking of [[Acre]]), most of the Holy Land is still held by Saracens. The lands to the east and south-east are Saracen strongholds, and they occupy and hold the cities of [[Damascus]] and [[Jerusalem]].Later they conquer the Holy Land back.

Saracen soldiers are similar to the Crusaders combat-wise. They speak Arabic , and wear Lamellar armor.

The Saracens have spread 100 Saracen [[flags]] across the city of [[Damascus]]. Collecting them all will, in the Xbox 360 version of the game, grant the player an Achievement:
