AC

Save Citizen missions are optional missions in which Altaïr saves a helpless peasant who is being harassed, taunted, and shoved by guards. The guards are accusing them of crimes they most likely did not commit and they are threatening to hurt them. If Altaïr saves the citizen by killing the guards, he will unlock a group of either Vigilantes or Scholars who will permanently remain at that position and they can aid him in his adventures.

There are usually anywhere between three to five guards around the citizen. Two are in the process of actively shaking the citizen down while the remaining guards stand as lookouts. These lookouts will push Altaïr away if he gets too close.

Engaging the guards
How you go about killing the guards does not matter. The player may charge in, sword at the ready, or the player may use low-profile assassinations (e.g. using the Hidden Blade or Throwing Knives) to pick off one or two of the guards before the remaining ones notice and engage the player.

If the player locks onto them and doesn't do anything for a few seconds, Altaïr will taunt them under his breath in arabic, causing the guards to immediately engage him.

The guards should not be difficult to kill, they are always low-level infantrymen. However, any number of guards of any rank who happen to pass by as Altaïr is saving the citizen will join the fight.

Reward
Once all of the guards (including any other ones that have joined the fight) are killed, talk to the citizen you just saved. They'll thank you profusely, and as a reward, a group of either Vigilantes or Scholars will permanently remain at the location the player saved the citizen.
width="100"|Citizen Saved
width="400"|Reward
Female
A group of Vigilantes will be created. If Altaïr is being chased by guards and he runs by a group of vigilantes, the Vigilantes will grab the guards and delay them, giving Altaïr a chance to escape.
Male
A group of four Scholars in a diamond formation will be created. The Scholars act as a moving Hiding spot. If the player presses the Feet button, Altaïr will blend in among them. If he is Unseen when he goes into hiding, any pursuing guards will give up chase.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, citizens saved by Ezio Auditore da Firenze will be given the opportunity to&nbsp;join the Assassins and fight for the freedom of Rome by breaking the corrupt and ruthless Borgia influence. You can find these rebels in the areas that are controlled and ruined by the Borgia and save them to offer to join the Brotherhood. The only way citizens can become assassins is when Ezio sends the saved citizen to a random mission to gain experience. A citizen who succeeds his/her mission becomes an assassin. Those who fail their missions die.

Trivia
*As Altaïr approaches Damascus for the first time in the game, there will be a citizen to be saved near market outside the main gates. This one Save Citizen is mandatory - it must be done and cannot be skipped. It is the only mandatory Save Citizen mission in the game.
*Save Citizen missions are only available in the three cities - Damascus, Acre, and Jerusalem.
*In Damascus and Jerusalem, to know what kind of Saracens that you have to kill, the Saracens' clothing is usually dyed gray.
*In Assassin's Creed when the city alarm is triggered after an assassination, the harassers will pay no attention to Altaïr and will not be suspicious.

In-Game Introduction Video
thumb|450px|rightVideo Summary: "Please wait a moment while we synchronize the DDS. You may find yourself daydreaming more often and sleeping less. This is a normal side effect of the program. Many of Rome's biggest names spent their lesiure time indulging in its many brothels. They were ideal information hubs for those eager to scale the social ladder. Fiora Cavazza was one such courtesan. Investigate her contacts; find out who she knew, and what she did with that knowledge."

Who You Know
The Rosa in Fiore bustles with clients, most of them disgusting. Madonna Solari pushes us to mingle. Flirt. Romance. Seduce. Whatever necessary. Men of power are quick to share it for a night of fantasy. There is no shortage of coin nor hedonist in Roma and business has never been better.

Playing Nice
Requirements: 12 AP (per execution)

Rewards: 25XP, 357 florins.

Chance Items: Deckhand, Herald, Slaver, Smuggler, Shipwright.

Filth can be hidden by shadows. Foul smells masked by stronger scents, mostly imported. Disease is … difficult. Madonna Solari is quick to dismiss any girl with symptoms, but with so many sailors playing in foreign lands, I fear we face a losing battle. Still, our work continues.
*This one seems nice enough. He has some minor connections. We trade poetry. His teeth appear as though they wish to escape his mouth; they garble his speech and I struggle to understand him. Fortunately, he has no desire to kiss me.
*Another partner. He wears a rash upon his chest. Inflamed, discolored scales. I turn him away. Disgusting! I am told he may retaliate, that he is a military commander. I scoff.
*This mercenary is handsome. Opulent. He will pay me well. His face bears several battle scars. Noble women must find them unattractive, but I think they give him character. He begins to undress, so I do the same.
*A lady of adventure! I invite her in. Women pose much less risk, though they risk much being seen with us. She is an artist. She knows at least one of the masters, though she will not reveal his name. Perhaps next time.
*I have seen this man speak outside his church. Ristoro. An insatiable beast, making a mockery of his frock. He denies it, but we all know he serves the Borgia. I tolerate his perversions.
*No impressive connections today, but my job requires persistence. I need only one powerful “friend” and I will be done with Madame Solari. Done with the Rosa in Fiore. I am not ungrateful. I am a fine wine served in a low class tavern.

Flirting With Danger
Requirements: 14 AP (per execution), Colorful Frock.

Rewards: 25XP, 357 florins.

Chance Items: Doctor, Politician, Botanist, Captain.

The Jubilee has brought all types of people to Roma. Some famous. Some wealthy. We have a promising group of guests today. I put on a smile. A swagger to my step. This may be the day.
*This one claims to be a prince. He is perfumed. His fake scent overpowers mine. He has put more time into his hair than I have. Every curl immaculate. Every whisker of his beard trimmed and ordered. Every word from his mouth groomed as well.
*A treasure chest of an ambassador! He yearns to share his secrets and I promise him confidentiality. Golden coins begin to tumble from his mouth!
*I entertain a banker from Firenze. I expected significant gratuity. I should have known better. Still, he has introduced me to some of his powerful companions.
*A thick accent. I cannot place it. He has obviously travelled far for the Jubilee and he is looking to relax. I help him. He begins to share stories about his country and its views on Italia. His views are dangerous. He tells me several of Roma’s politicians agree with him.
*An hour with a gentleman! He woos me. Dotes on me. Begins to ask me questions. I see! He plays the game as well. We trade information.
*I have made allies today. Gained insight into Roma’s social circle. The other girls are jealous. Good. I have earned everything I have.

Payoff
Requirements: 15 AP (per execution), 3 Smugglers, 2 Slavers, 2 Doctors, 4 Politicians, 2 Frocks, 2 Courtesans.

Rewards: 27 XP, 366 florins

Tonight I am to escort Santino, Madonna Solari’s brother. I will take one of his arms and Lucia the other. He is a dangerous man. A swindler. I complain but soon realize that no amount of protest will make any difference.
*Santino delivers payments. Bribes. He does not speak long enough for me to learn his contacts. Who are these men?
*Threats, now. Santino punches a man! Demands information. He gets it. Shipping routes. Slave trading?
*I question Santino, but he responds with a slap! Lucia defends me and receives the same answer!
*Santino tells us to wait in a courtyard and knocks on a nearby door. There is no answer. He kicks it several times, but it does not give. He fumes and swears!
*We are sworn to silence, though we do not know what we have seen. He punctuates his threat with a flash of his dagger. I am not impressed, but Lucia weeps.
*I am left with only the slightest comprehension of Santino’s business, which appears to be crumbling. His anger betrays his fear. His mistakes have made him enemies. He assures us his sister will hear of our cooperation and then he leaves. After he has turned the corner. I spit.

He Walked In
Requirements: 17 AP (per execution), 1 Perfume (per execution).

Rewards: 31 XP, 376 florins.

Chance Items: Sealed Secret Orders.

Santino enters the Rosa in Fiore. He wears a bruise on his cheek. A man follows behind him. Well-dressed. Hawk eyes. Noble. I recognize him at once – Cesare Borgia. Cesare studies the room, considering each girl. Our eyes lock and he smiles. He gestures me to him.
*The Borgia are corrupt. Everyone knows it. Few speak it. I do not concern myself with morals. How could I, in this business? Besides, his charisma is intoxicating. I am immediately drawn to him.
*He questions me about my night with Santino. I try to hide my opinions, but fail. He is skilled. He reads my face. Finally, I tell him what I suspect. He confirms it. Santino and his sister have been dabbling in trades where they are unwelcome.
*Cesare asks about my clients. Borgia in particular. I tell him I have never heard the name before. He smiles. I pass his test.
*I begin to undress, perhaps a bit too eager. He stops me.
*Cesare asks me about my ambitions. He is the first.
*Cesare explains the situation. In exchange for their lives, Madonna Solari and Santino have given Cesare the pick of one girl. Me. I will leave the Rosa in Fiore and move into luxury, merely posing as a courtesan. I accept. Not that there was a choice.

Black Market
I have served the Borgia for six years now. Done horrible things. Seen the fantastic. I regret none of it. A war has made its way to Roma, fought in the streets, the senate, and the churches. Cesare has tasked me to coordinate his shadow army.

The Price of Faith
Requirements: 10 AP (per execution), 1 Ritual Dagger, 1 Courtesan (per execution).

Rewards: 19 XP, 132 florins.

Chance Items: Religious Icons, Letter Of Indulgence, Letter Of Condemnation, Letter Of Absolution, Monk, Priest, Cardinal, Sealed Secret Orders.

I have brought flesh for Brother Ristoro’s appetite. New girls eager for experience. In return, Ristoro has prepared church documents and trinkets for Cesare’s agents. I have avoided the worm since my time at the Rosa in Fiore. I hope he has forgotten my face.
*He does not even glance at the other girls. He walks right to me and puts a hand upon my cheek. Tells me I was always his favorite. I kick him between the legs and threaten him with Cesare’s wrath! He whimpers.
*Ristoro opens several drawers and produces religious icons and amulets. He believes they will be useful to Cesare’s plan. I am not convinced, but I take them.
*I exaggerate Cesare’s request. A little extra coin for myself. Payment for having to gaze upon this wretched man.
*Ristoro hands me a stack of documents. He says it is filled with pardons and payments for Cesare’s contacts. Officially sealed by the Church. Why anyone would give this man such power is beyond me.
*Ristoro provides me with various pieces of religious gear. Junk. I am not sure that I can put any of it to use, but I take it anyway. Perhaps he toys with me.
*As I turn to leave, Ristoro tries again to touch me. The girls move into his path and pull him away, giggling. They have a long night ahead. I almost feel guilty leaving them behind.

Go-To Girl
Requirements: 12 AP (per execution), 1 Semi-Precious Stones (per execution).

Rewards: 22 XP, 0 florins

Chance Items: Bauble, Trinket, Curio, Valuable Antique.

I manage to collect the requested items from Lia and pay her the coin. She keeps her palm open. Good girl. I give her the rest of her payment and she clucks her disapproval. I tip her.
*I try to make conversation. She is uninterested. She hands me some blood-stained relic and smiles.
*Now this is a treasure! Not one I particularly need, but I cannot imagine where she obtained it. She does seem proud.
*How did she get this past the guards? Of course. Cesare owns the guards. Is there nothing out of this woman's reach?
*The room smells of death. Heavy with insects. It would not surprise me to find the previous owner's body on the other side of the counter
*I cannot fathom why Cesare would want any of these random objects.

...And The Beast
Requirements: 10 AP (per execution), 1 Hammer, 1 Blacksmith's Tools, 1 Holm Oak (per execution), 1 Iron (per execution), 1 Silver (per execution), 3 Coal (per execution).

Rewards: 18 XP, 170 florins.

Chance Items: War Hammer, Longsword, Ritual Dagger, Straight Razor, Rondel, Shiv, Cinqueda, Executioner's Axe.

Cesare employs his own blacksmith, Auguste Oberlin. A former Swiss mercenary and weaponcrafter. I knock on his shop door. My my. Aren’t you an ox of a man? Then he speaks. Articulate. Intelligent. I am shocked.
*He slaps me on the shoulder as I enter his shop. It stings! He offers me a drink.
*He shows me a wide range of standard weaponry. I relay Cesare’s requests and have Auguste deliver the weapons to my helpers outside.
*I notice small drawings covering most of one wall, starting with crude designs at the top and progressing to beautiful, intricate revisions near the bottom. Auguste explains that he distributes Borgia propaganda in Roma. I am amazed. How do such large hands produce such fine detail?
*Auguste asks about Cesare’s more bizarre requests. I tell him what I know. Cesare has several renowned inventors and engineers in his employ. Rethinking weapons of war. Creating new ones.
*The smith’s wife tells me I have overstayed my welcome. Demands that I leave. Auguste shouts back at her. The two growl at each other like wild dogs.
*Auguste urges me to visit to him again. Carrying the last box of supplies, I push through the door. I promise him I will return. His wife scowls and I reply with a challenging wink.

Spare Parts
Rewards: 22 XP, 189 florins.

Chance Items: Screw, Gear, Coil, Sprocket, Chain, Deadly Prosthetic, Box Of Components.

Gaspar de la Croix. Engineer. Marksman. Recluse. He frightens me, but His technical skills are unprecedented. His workshop is humble but overfilled. It is difficult to navigate without knocking over his myriad tools.
*Gaspar is singing in French. A sad song. I sense loss in his strained voice. What has he lost? I wait for him to finish before I speak. He startles.
*The engineer is distant. He barely acknowledges me. Most of the parts he has repaired are already packed nicely into boxes.
*He asks me uncomfortable questions. Have I ever witnessed death? Is death drive by fate, chance, or choice? I do not answer him.
*He tinkers with a weapon. Aims it towards the clouded window. Squints at the shadows of people as they pass on the street outside. Sighs. Puts it back on the table and adjusts it further.
*I offer Gaspar his payment, but he tells me it is not necessary. I leave it on his workbench anyway.
*I thank Gaspar for his help. He answers with a subtle shrug. A haunted man. I am careful to avoid his front window as I walk away from his workshop.

Underground Army
Cesare's personal collection of misfits and miscreants grows, their only purpose to create strife within Roma. I am to meet with his key soldiers. Coordinate plans. Provide supplies. Study his animals in the wild.

Hired Muscle
Rewards: 26 XP, 480 florins.

Chance Items: Roman Sentry, Arquebusier, Papal Guard.

The condottiero Rocco Tiepolo collects warriors. Prides himself on acquiring exotic mercenaries and tactics. He is expensive, but the Borgia have no shortage of money. When I arrive, he is waiting for me. Food on the table. He pours wine.

*I pick the mercenaries with obvious battle scars. A clear sign that they know what to expect. Tiepolo corrects me. Says all of his men have slain countless rivals, so those without scars are more impressive.
*Some men show off their weapons. Brag about their exploits. Tease. I look for the silent ones. The serious faces.
*Tiepolo instructs two of his mercenaries to fight for my favor as we dine. They are brutal. Each draws blood from the other. No small wounds, either. When they are finished, I tell Tiepolo I am not interested in damaged mercenaries. We both laugh.
*The mercenaries ask where they will be sent to fight. I tell them I suspect Roma will be their battleground. They protest, but Tiepolo silences them.
*Tiepolo shows me paintings of his own exploits. He has only lost two battles in decades of combat, but he commanded neither. I ask if he is for sale. He tells me Cesare will have to send more coin for that. He asks if I am for sale and I tell him that I have already been purchased.
*Tiepolo invites me to stay longer. Tempting, but I decline. He hands me a signed contract for each man I have selected and I pay him with a pouch of Cesare's coin. The mercenaries are eager for battle. I promise them they will find one soon enough.

The Heedless Horseman
Rewards: 32 XP 456 florins.

Donato Mancini is Cesare's finest horseman, perhaps better than Cesare himself. The Borgia have gathered for a private race today. The Circo Massimo. I am to bribe Donato to let Cesare win. Threaten him if he will not.
*Donato is a confident man. His horse is completely under his control as he approaches and bows. I signal my men to present him with a gift. Exceptional armor. He dismounts and orders his assistants to help him fit into it.
*I relay Cesare's threat to Donato. He is not surprised. He tells me the winner will win the race. There are no other factors.
*I sit beside Lucrezia Borgia. She refuses to look at me. Thinks me a plaything for Cesare. Perhaps I am. The race begins! Cesare rushes ahead of Donato. Is Cesare is [sic] the better rider?
*Donato advances, but is blocked by one of Cesare's officers. I hear Lucrezia mutter to an acquaintance. The rider is Teodor Viscardi. One of Cesare's henchmen.
*Teodor produces a blade. Thrusts it at Donato! Donato leans away, then kicks his horse to blaze past both Teodor and Cesare. The crowd gasps! Donato wins! Silence as he rides past us to claim his victory.
*Cesare dismounts and throws his helmet! He gestures to me and I nod. My mercenaries tear Donato from his horse and toss him to the ground. The beating is savage! Humiliating! The crowd laughs. I do not. Donato truly was the champion today.

Rake
Requirements: 15 AP (per execution), 1 Shiv, 1 Trinket, 2 Bauble.
Rewards: 28 XP, 427 florins.

Chance Items: Thug, Cento Occhi Thief, Thief.

Cesare has sent me to meet with the Cento Occhi. Thieves. Many of them young. Lanz is their leader and Cesare believes he has led an attack on a Borgia carriage. He provides me with evidence. Tells me to make a deal with the gang.
*I find Lanz outside a church, counting coins from a pouch he nicked. He does not look up, though he knows I am here. I throw a crude dagger into the dirt near his feet. Wide eyes. Apologies. He realizes I represent the Borgia.
*He reclaims his ugly weapon. Sheaths it. Offers to return the stolen money. I tell him he will do that and more. His gang will serve Cesare.
*Lanz tells me he has already spent the coin, but he will deliver a portion of it today. Good faith. He asks me to watch him work... if I can keep up.
*I watch him bump into a merchant in the crowd. He is gone before the man turns. Next, a noble woman. A priest. He steals from five people before he is spotted. The man calls for guards!
*A mounted guard charges into the square and Lanz pushes his victim beneath the horses' hooves. The rider falls. I lose sight of Lanz for a moment, then realize he is halfway up the side of the building beneath me.
*Before Lanz leaves, I check my pockets. Everything seems to be in place. I believe Lanz will deliver payment. He fears Cesare.

Close Shave
Requirements: 25 AP (per execution), 1 Straight Razor, 2 Plain Cloak, 1 Box Of Components (per execution).

Chance Items: Replica Hidden Blade.

Cesare has employed a master spy. Baltasar da Silva. He hides behind the guise of a barber, though I am told he has no skill at it. Together, we will stalk Cesare's enemy - a league of assassins. There is much to learn.
*Cesare has thrown one of his own senators to the lions. A high profile man with big ambition, notorious for corruption. The senator barely survived an attack this morning, yet Cesare has afforded him no guards. We follow him, waiting for the Assassins to strike again.
*The senator remains indoors most of the week. Under Baltasar's lead, we are never spotted.
*The senator finally heads for the market. His walk is brisk. Paranoid. Eyes everywhere. Suddenly, a shadow overhead. The assassin is above us!
*The assassin leaps! As he lands upon the senator, a weapon protrudes from his wrist. Pierces his victim's neck! The cloaked killer mutters a few words and vanishes. We give chase! Gone.
*Baltasar grins. Though I feel failure, he is pleased by what he has learned. He takes notes.
*Though we lost sight of the assassin, we have learned much. The garb. The hidden blade. The technique. Baltasar will continue to stalk these cloaked killers and report back to me.<br />

Oddities
Cesare has put together an army of misfits. Cretins. I begin to doubt that he actually has a plan for Roma. It seems he has opened a cage let wild animals loose upon the city. Why has he chosen me to tame them?

Center Stage
Requirements: 30 AP (per execution), 2 Rondel, 1 Mask, 1 Sealed Secret Orders (per execution).

Rewards: 58 XP, 741 florins.

I am dealing with fools! Two of them. Cahin and Caha. French. Brother and sister. Ridiculous costumes. Appropriate, I suppose, for this type of celebration. Our target has some claim to foreign royal blood, which they plan to spill.
*The fools put on an animated performance. They flip. Dance. Pretend to punch each other. Both fall down. The guests cheer!
*Caha begins to juggle. All eyes follow her. Cahin moves behind his victim, careful to keep attention on his sister.
*I draw my blade, waiting for the right cue. I lean towards the guest next to me.
*Cahin stabs a man through the back of his chair! A moment of confusion, then panic! Caha throws two of her juggled blades into the throats of two guests!
*The final guest screams and flees! I chase her down, tackling her over a chair! She begs for her life. To let her live would cost me mine. I finish her quickly.
*Cahin laughs his way through the door. Caha tips over a candelabrum before tumbling out behind him. I remain convinced that they are totally mad... yet fun!

Gallows Humor
Requirements: 28 AP (per execution), 1 Executioner's Axe, 1 Letter Of Condemnation (per executiuon), 1 Rope (per execution).

Rewards: 54 XP, 694 florins.

They call him Il Carnifice. Everyone assumes that executioners love their work. It is easier to accept that way. Make them the villain. They wear masks to avoid this stigma when the mask comes off. Not Il Carnefice. He loves the work as well as the mask. He sense my distaste. Enjoys it.
*Il Carnefice has been busy. His executions so commonplace that his crowd is dwindling. A few beggars and a handful of guards wait as he prepares the next rope.
*I hand him Cesare's condemnations. He flips through them briefly and replies with a serious look. Says my name is on the list! Flashes his axe! I am stunned. He smiles and then tosses the list to the side. Tells me he cannot read.
*The dead man hanging is an old client of mine. A friend. Did Cesare intend me to witness this?
*A bound man is escorted onto the platform. Head covered. He pleads with Il Carnefice. Proclaims his innocence. Il Carnefice comforts him. Says it is good because the innocent get to go to Heaven.
*He puts on a show! Cheering with his audience. Showing off the body parts he hacks from the bodies of the condemned. I vomit and he mocks me for the crowd.
*My time with the executioner is done for now. I take it for what it is. A warning from Cesare. I am more disgusted than intimidated by Cesare's beast.

Spider
Requirements: 24 AP (per execution), 1 Deadly Prosthetic, 1 Letter Of Indulgence, 1 Valuable Antique.

Rewards: 46 Xp, 636 florins.

Chance Items: Sealed Secret Orders, Follower Of Romulus.

Silvestro Sabbatini. Claims to be noble. Dresses the part, but poorly. He is a panderer, buying his way into social circles. Speaking with a black tongue. Cesare lopped off his left arm for failure. I am to deliver his second chance.
*Sabbatini is the spider. In this small gathering, every person is potential prey. He senses every subtle social vibration. Always on watch. Listening. I am the new insect, stepping onto his web. I receive his full attention. I feel his mandibles twitch.
*He approaches, eyes wide and grin exaggerated. I hand him the monstrous mechanical arm.
*Sabbatini directs me to a back room. He actually believes none of these people have noticed his disfigurement. The replacement arm will only bring more attention to him. Still, I follow.
*He is disappointed in the device, despite the masterful craftsmanship. He wanted more jewels. Rare metals. I offer to return it to Cesare for him and he snatches it from my arms!
*The arm is awkward. Clumsy. He tests the sharpened claws and engages a hidden surprise. A blade pops from the center! A sinister weapon, but is it practical? Not my concern.
*I leave Sabbatini to his games. He immediately pulls up a chair next to an attractive young woman and reveals his new arm. She flinches and leans away from him, but he strokes her cheek with those menacing claws. I shudder!

The Bad Doctor
Cesare wants me to meet his murderous doctor, Malfatto, though I do not belive he really is a doctor. He is a predator of women. A monster. Cesare is testing my loyalty, but he may soon find he has destroyed what I had left.

A Taste For Violence
Requirements: 28 AP (per execution), 1 Hooded Dress, 1 Courtesan.

Rewards: 55 XP, 772 florins.

No sign of Malfatto. I am alone in the empty streets of Roma's poorest district. I have done my best to conceal myself, but I still feel vulnerable. Scared.
*I whisper Malfatto's name. It sounds ridiculous. Why have I agreed to this?
*A scream! A cry for help! She is nearby, but it is easy to get lost in these haphazard alleyways.
*She pleads with someone! Begs for her life! I run hard but cannot find her!
*She is sobbing now! I scold myself for coming unprepared! I should have studied the district, memorized its streets!
*A flash of black movement and then it disappears into the shadows. Malfatto?
*A poorly lit alcove. Violence hangs heavy in the air, though everything is still. I spot her! She looks like a broken doll at first, discarded in the alley. Then I see the blood. So much blood! I flee!

Rat Trap
Requirements: 30 AP (per execution), 1 Elegant Gown, 1 Perfume (per execution), 1 Letter of Absolution (per execution).

Rewards: 59 XP, 877 florins.

Cesare will not accept my refusal to find Malfatto. He will have me killed if I fail. After what I have seen his monster do, I cannot imagine those alleyways without shaking. Worse yet, he has asked me to wear one of my old courtesan outfits. Better to draw the monster's attention.
*A few crowds on the street tonight. I want to stay near people, but I know Malfatto will avoid them. I must travel alone.
*A hand on my shoulder! I scream and spin around. It is only a drunken fool! He nearly slobbers on my dress. I push him to the ground!
*I hear the echo of my own footsteps. My nervous breathing. I flinch at any other sounds. Rustling in the dark. Whispers.
*In the corner! I see something! A glint of light on a lens. It moves. The bone-white beak! It is him!
*Malfatto lunges for me! I sidestep him. I yell Cesare's name at him! Demand that he listens! He grabs me and then notices the document in my hand. Hestitates. Takes it.
*Malfatto does not read the document. He simply stares at me through his sinister mask. Cocks his head. I back away. He does not move.

HouseCall
Requirements: 50 AP (per execution), 1 Iron Fan.

Rewards: 99 XP, 1365 florins.

Chance Items: Poison Vial, Syringe.

I am done with Cesare. Done with the mad people who surround him. I will leave Roma within the week. I return to the home Cesare has provided. Luxurious. Excessive. I drink to calm myself, but sleep does not come easy.
*I feel a prick at my neck! Believing it to be an insect, I swat it away, but my hand connects with something solid! A syringe! Malfatto is in my room! What has he — can't think! Poisoned?
*I stumble over the opposite side of the bed and onto my feet! My legs tremble beneath me! I scramble to a nearby table, grabbing for my fan!
*Malfatto faces me. Still. Syringe dropped to the floor. He is waiting me out! Waiting for the poison to overcome me!
*I unfold my fan, exposing a blossom of blades. I cannot see his face, but Malfatto's posture betrays fear! Have his victims ever fought back?
*I charge Malfatto, slashing violently! He backs into a wall and I shred his doctor's garb. I have drawn blood! Is it enough? I lose my vision!
*My mind plummets! My ears ring! I collapse. Malfatto ... what will you do?

Scorned
Requirements: 60 AP (per execution), 1 Papal Guard, 1 Courier Pigeon (per execution), 1 Sealed Secret Orders (per execution).

Reward: 118 XP, 1151 florins.

I live! My balance is off. My eyes struggle to stay clear. Malfatto is gone, but he has spilled his insides across my floor. They trail to my window. I cut him badly! Cesare will not protect me. I must appeal to his enemies. Offer a deal.
*I know the Assassins have been watching me. They may even be past clients or friends. We have watched them as well. My work with Baltasar showed me how they operate. How I can find them.
*Their system for communication is crude. They use pigeon coops to trade messages. Assignments. The rooftops are forbidden, but we have seen one of Cesare's own guards leaving letters in the coops. Assassins picking them up.
*I write a list. Names of Cesare's agents. Everyone I know. Even those who were kind to me. I will cripple him!
*As expected, I find Cesare's traitorous guard placing letters in a pigeon coop. I confront him. At first he denies any knowledge, but when I produce a letter for the "men in white," he agrees to deliver it.
*Inside my letter, an offer to help the Assassins in their fight against Cesare in any way I can. They may be the only ones who can protect me from his wrath. I spend the rest of the day in large crowds. Well lit areas. If they want to find me, they will.
*Francesco Vecellio. The blossoming painter. I never would have suspected. He tells me the list has been given to someone reliable. That my worries will soon be over. He tells me my work is far from finished.

Reaping The Whirlwind
The Assassins have allowed me to follow them, but insist that I keep my distance as they deal with Cesare's agents from my list. I want to see them. I need to see that they finish the job.

Fired
Requirements: 40 AP (per execution), 1 Cinqueda, 5 Assassin's Bow, 15 Longswords, 5 Assassins, 15 Cento Occhi Thief, 40 Arrows (per execution).

Rewards: 80 XP, 1170 florins.

I do not wish Rocco Teipolo's death, but a large portion of Cesare's army owes him loyalty. We cannot hope to match the price, so he leaves us no other option.
*The mercenaries training outside are dispatched in a heartbeat! The Assassins coordinate their arrows, fire nearly all at once, and every shot finds its mark!
*More mercenaries burst from the training grounds, these in heavy armor. The Assassins move in close, their speed unmatched! They attack in pairs, taking advantage of the armored mercenaries' lowered mobility. The second wave is soon bested!
*The Assassins wait before moving into the building. They call me to them with a hand sign.
*They ask me to indicate the defenses inside the building. I point to the walls, explaining what is on the other side of each. Before I can finish, they are moving again!
*The veteran mercenaries stand beside Rocco. We outnumber them, but they manage to kill two of ours before they are overcome!
*Rocco waves a single short sword, challenging a dozen Assassins. He knows he has lost, yet he wears a broad smile. This is the end he has fantasized! The Assassins do not disappoint!

No Encore
Requirements: 34 AP (per execution), 2 Crossbows, 1 Iron Fan, 10 Assassins, 5 Rapiers, 3 Smoke Bombs (per execution), 10 Crossbow Bolts (per execution).

Rewards: 68 XP, 1072 florins.

We catch the fools performing on the street. They are involved in a ridiculous dance, fueled by a musician plucking at a battered instrument. They are too deep in their performance to notice the crowd changing around them.
*The Assassins begin to infiltrate the crowd, subtle at first, but soon filling it with white hoods.
*Caha spins and throws a smoke bomb into the crowd! Some of the Assassins choke! Others shrug it off and give chase! I open my hand fan to disperse the cloud.
*The crowd scatters and Cahin attempts to slip away. He fails! Assassins block his path! He produces a slender dagger. A poor counter to their rapiers. He is agile enough to keep up with them for a while, even cutting one man's face, but he soon collapses with four swords running through his gut!
*Caha cries out to her brother! Turns to face us, her own daggers unsheathed! She dashes right for me!
*The Assassins hold. They are enjoying this! I deflect Caha's attack with my bladed fan and slash her arm! She drops her weapon! She jabs and kicks and I mark her skin for each assault! Finally, she yields and crawls over to her brother's corpse.
*Caha cradles her brother's body. Removes his mask and strokes his cheek. She doesn't acknowledge the Assassin approaching her from behind. Doesn't hear him load his crossbow or the snap as he fires a bolt into her head.

Out Played
Rquirements: 30 AP (per execution), 1 Bearded Axe, 1 Assassin, 5 Lock Picking Tools.

Rewards: 60 AP, 760 florins.

The Assassins plan to hit Baltasar's barber shop. A decoy. I direct them towards his real hideout, which is blocks away. He will not be easily ambushed.
*The Assassins manage to avoid the first trap. They pull open the front door and roll away, causing a nasty blast that tears off a large piece of the frame! I have never seen anything like it!
*Inside. Nothing. We search for trap doors. There! A pull-down ladder that leads up to an attic!
*One Assassin heads up. We hear the whistle of his daggers! The thump when they connect! He cries out!
*They pull the wounded man back down to our floor. His face is red, his eyes leaking. He tells us he reacted to a man in the corner, hidden in shadows. A trap - a fake man stuffed with some sort of burning powder! We can smell it. Sharp.
*I glance out the window beside me. Baltasar! He is outside. He carries a torch! A look of shock as he recognizes my face. He lights the building!
*We flee the building! We manage to reach the street before Baltasar's fire grows out of control. No sign of the spy. I doubt that he has fled Roma. He enjoys this game.

Moving Target
Requirements: 30 AP (per execution), 10 Assassins, 5 Arquebusiers, 20 Arrows.

Rewards: 62 XP, 994 florins.

Baltasar escaped. I cannot afford to let him live. We spied on the Assassins together and I know more than they believe. I am a liability. On the other side, Baltasar may have told Cesare about my betrayal, which means the Borgia will be looking for me. I must find him!
*I watch Baltasar's barber shop. He isn't likely to return, but there is a small chance he has left something behind. The night passes. If he returned, I never saw him.
*Little remains of the ravaged hideout, but I search the debris for any clues that might lead me to Baltasar. I find a letter untouched by flame.
*Instructions. Baltasar admires my move. Wants to meet. Discuss options. Work a better deal.
*I arrive at the warehouse. Scout it. Only Baltasar sitting at a table inside. He bows and welcomes me. Begins to guess at my plan, my motivations. He is right on most counts. He has not told Cesare about my betrayal. My failure would reflect poorly on Cesare's master spy.
*He apologizes. Several riflemen step out from behind large crates in the room! Level their guns. I bow my head.
*I prepare for the incoming shots, but hear no gunfire! I open my eyes. Baltasar is dead, slumped over the table! His men have been killed as well, an arrow sticking out of each one. The Assassins!

Fair Game
Requirements: 60 AP (per execution), 1 Replica Hidden Blade, 1 Iron fan, 1 Black Leather Cloak, 1 Ink (per execution), 1 Poison Vial (per execution).

Rewards: 120 XP, 1404 florins.

Baltasar and I created Il Lupo. He dresses as his enemy. Wields their intricate weapons. Uses their techniques. Effective, if not perfect, imitations. With Baltasar dead, Il Lupo remains the only one who can tie me to any harm done to the Assassins.
*We have a signal for contact. A symbol left on the statue Pasquino. He will meet me by the docks at sunset.
*I hear a cry! A splash behind me! Il Lupo has his wrist blades extended. They fold clumsily compared to an Assassin, but the blood on his demonstrates their efficiency. He tells me I was being followed. No longer.
*Il Lupo asks why I have summoned him. I point to a ship far out from the wharf. I explain that Cesare has a target for him aboard. Lies. He gazes out. Considers the mission. Asks how he will reach it unseen.
*I open my fan blades quietly and then rake him across the back! He responds with a backhanded smack. I tumble, nose dripping! His fang-like blades are out again. He moves in for the kill!
*He runs at me! I lunge towards him, kicking his legs. He falls to the ground, but recovers with a flawless, practiced roll! He unsheathes a rapier. I have no defense! Just a moment longer. Work. Work!
*He keels over, vomiting! His whole body quivers. He curses me. Questions me. I give him no response. Once the poison has finished his work, I roll his body into the water. Satisfied that we had no witnesses, I leave the docks.
The Fall of Monteriggioni was a series of events leading up to an engagement between the Borgia, under the command of Cesare Borgia, and the Auditore which took place in 1499.
Return from the Vatican
After Ezio received the message of Those Who Came Before from the Vault under the Vatican, Ezio and Mario Auditore return to Monteriggioni after escaping the Papal forces, with the Apple of Eden with them.

At the countryside of Monteriggioni, Ezio and Mario conversed about what Ezio learned in the Vault, and as they rode to the city, mercenaries were testing out the cannons recently installed during Ezio's absence. Arriving at the city, Ezio and Mario was joyously greeted by the townspeople on their return.

Determined to rid themselves of the Master Assassin Ezio Auditore, the Templars attacked the city of Monteriggioni with an overwhelming force, whilst the city's defenders, led by both Ezio and his uncle – Mario Auditore – attempted to hold them off.

The Auditore were caught by surprise. Ezio himself was unaware of what was happening, sleeping together with Caterina Sforza, and at first believed the cannons to just be "training exercises". Though when a cannonball crashed into the room, shattering the wall and central pillar, Ezio jumped out of bed, dressed and armed himself with one Hidden Blade, a sword, and the Hidden Gun, however his armor was scattered by the attack and he had no time to put the rest of it on. He jumped out the window onto the first-level rooftop to observe exactly what was happening.

It was then that Ezio realized that Monteriggioni was under attack. Another bomb struck the villa just near where he was standing and Ezio fell down to the ground. There, his uncle Mario helped him up and told him the attack was led by the Borgia. Mario instructed his nephew to hold off the army until the townspeople could flee, and that he'd intended to lead a frontal assault. Wishing each other good luck and victory, they parted ways with Ezio running through the training area then jumping from it onto the back of a horse to get as fast as possible to the walls of defense. Upon the fortress walls, he used the cannons to destroy as many siege towers as he could.

Despite the destruction of many of the Templars' siege engines, the Templars managed to overwhelm the city's defenders and breach the main gates. A mortally wounded Mario Auditore was forced inside the city by Cesare Borgia who, revealing the Apple to be in his possession, proceeded to "invite" Ezio to come to Rome with a shot of his firearm; the shot killed Mario Auditore, whilst Ezio was also shot by a detachment of Templar arquebusiers upon the city walls. When Ezio eventually came to his senses, he made his way to Rome in pursuit of Cesare. However, due to the gunshot wounds he'd received during the siege, Ezio collapsed again. When he regained consciousness, he woke up in a small house, on the outskirts of Rome, where Niccolò Machiavelli nursed Ezio back to health. After a doctor stitched up Ezio's wounds he then journeyed to Rome.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is an upcoming direct sequel of 2009's Assassin's Creed II. Featuring Ezio once again, the game pictures him, now a legendary master assassin, leading his newly found brotherhood in a hunt for Templars. This is also the first game of the series to include a multiplayer mode of any kind.

Desmond Miles will make an appearance in Brotherhood, so the main storyline does progress. His voice actor Nolan North has admitted to be working on a new Assassin's Creed game and game developers announced that his story would "take an interesting turn".

Story
Following the events of Assassin's Creed II, Ezio Auditore da Firenze is now a legendary master assassin. However, following a surprise Templar attack on the town of Monteriggioni, led by Cesare Borgia, the Assassins are brought to the verge of extinction, and the Apple lost.

With uncle Mario dead and his villa in ruins, Ezio must now travel to Rome, center of corruption, power and home of the Templar Order in Italy in order to regain the Apple and bring the Templar Order to its knees once and for all.
Singleplayer
Ubisoft claims (through conferences, videos and announces) that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will include new features, especially small gameplay add-on (i.e.: the flying Sequence in Assassin's Creed II, different from the rest of the gameplay). New weapons such as the crossbow will be introduced, and new combat elements will also be introduced, rewarding those who attack first, for example. Additionally enemies will more likely attack together instead of just one at a time as seen in previous instalments.

It is also likely that the player (through Ezio) will have to train apprentices, help other assassins, and confront enemies along with them.

Ezio's ability to train and send other assassins on jobs and missions may have a key gameplay element in such that their success may have a small impact of the storyline, much like the progression of the game through upgrading Rome. This success will depend on abilities of the assassins sent, where younger, less experienced assassins will have a higher failure rate than older, more experienced ones. If your assassins die on a mission, they will not return. Ezio may also have the ability to select and bring along a group of assassins to assist in his missions, Ubisoft has said that in Brotherhood leadership is as vital a skill as the ability to use a sword. Also mentioned was the ability to select an assassin as Ezio's "personal assassin", no further information about this was given.

Multiplayer
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is the first Assassin's Creed game to feature a multiplayer mode. The players are Templars in training at the Abstergo facility. They use the Animi and the Bleeding Effect to train in combat, stealth and free running. The simulation consists of stalking and killing one another. The area in which the Templar assassins train is selected manually, as pre-set maps.

One of the multiplayer game modes has been announced in the July edition of Playstation magazine. This mode is called "Wanted". Six to eight players are dropped on a map where they find and kill each other. Each player is given a target, which is another player. Your goal is to find and kill your target without being seen or killed by your own predator. If you break your cover and your target sees you, a chase sequence will commence. They will try to catch and kill you and you will have to hide from them.

In Hunter mode, one player will take the role of an assassin while other players play as guards. Before the beginning of the mission the player will have to choose his class - there is no information how many classes will be available, but each class will have different animations and weapons. After the player has chosen his class, the radar will show him the area where his target is located and the number of enemy players that are searching for him. After the player has found the location where the victim is hiding they must then locate their target. There aren’t many skins for the NPCs so the player might find several identical people on the same location. That will make his job a lot harder because he should kill only one person, and if the player accidentally kills an innocent person he will lose his contract. Therefore, observation is the key to success in this mode. Ubisoft hints that each multiplayer character will appear in some form in the single-player mode too.

No further specifics about game modes are known.

The Beta comes out in early Autumn.

Physics and effects
Ubisoft has stated that the graphics will be improved upon, as well as several physics in the game. Ragdolls will fall much more realistic due to the new, edited "Havok" engine. In the other games, ragdolls sometimes would convulse when hitting the floor after being thrown off a building.

In Assassin’s Creed II, some PC players have stated that ragdolls such as a Messenger are more likely to fall unrealistic, due to their cape that 'clips' through their body. In some instances, ragdolls would have fallen with their arms clipping through their backs and legs. These certain instances mostly happen when Ezio picks up a body and throws it back on the ground, however it could happen any time.

Controlling the Assassins
During the game you will have the option of sending Assassins to different areas to complete tasks. You will have the ability to send new assassins to other European countries and complete missions to gain status. Once they have proven themselves effectively, they can accompany you on missions in Rome. The new assassins are recruited when Ezio rescues them from harassing guards, which leads them to join the Assassins. You can have the ability to train young Assassins and have them do jobs for you.

If an Assassin fails to pass a mission, he can't be used again. You can also customize the assassins' armor and weaponry, and each one has a different personality. Later on you can use experience points they've gained to upgrade their fighting and free-running abilities.
*So far it's known that you will be able to train at least twelve assassins, male or female, at a time and possibly bring up to five, including the "personal assassin", on missions.
*So far, Ezio and Desmond are the only known playable characters.

Trivia
*In the E3 2010 Single Player Walkthrough, the "Press Start/Enter" menu background changes from the original Animus in Assassin's Creed to the Animus 2.0 in Assassin's Creed II. As all of the characters in the multiplayer mode are Templars, it can be seen that they are using the Abstergo Animi. It may also hint that Desmond is captured by Abstergo once again, as Ubisoft has said that his story is to take "an interesting turn".
*All of the multiplayer characters appear in the single-player mode as well, as stated by Ubisoft.
Nulla é reale, tutto é lecito.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze (born 1459) was a Florentine noble during the Italian Renaissance, and unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, an influential member of the Assassin's Order. A descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and the ancestor to both Desmond Miles and Subject 16, Ezio was unaware of his Assassin heritage until he was 17-years-old, when, following the murder of his father and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio, Ezio fled from the Italian province of Florence - his hometown - and took refuge in the town of Monteriggioni in the Tuscan region at the Auditore Family Villa.

After being mentored and trained by uncle, Mario Auditore, Ezio proceeded on his quest of revenge against the Grandmaster of the Knights Templar, Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the executions of his father and two brothers. During his 23-year quest for revenge, Ezio managed to not only unite The Codex pages Altaïr wrote, for the first time since Domenico Auditore, but also to save the cities of Florence and Venice from the Templars' wrath. Later still, Ezio was responsible for the rescue of Christoffa Corombo, uncovering a Templar plot to discover the "New World".

Biography
Early life
Ezio Auditore da Firenze was born in Florence in 1459 AD, the second son of Giovanni and Maria Auditore. Until the age of 17, Ezio lived a life of luxury as a member of the Florentine noble class, unaware of his father's allegiance to the Assassin Order. As a youth he was an apprentice to his father, a Florentine banker, presumably to learn the ropes of banking, so that he could become the leader of the Auditore bank.

In the year 1476, Ezio, his older brother Federico and friends of the family got into a fight with Vieri de' Pazzi and his gang. Ezio single-handedly defeated several members of the opposing gang, but Vieri escaped the scene before Ezio could do anything to him. During the fight, Ezio's lip was scarred, so Frederico suggested that they visit the local doctor. After looting several people left unconscious from the fight, the two brothers ran across the rooftops to the Doctor.

After the doctor had tended to his wound, a church nearby caught the eye of the brothers and Federico suggested a race. Ezio won and together the two looked out over the city. Realizing that they were nearby, Ezio travelled to the house of Cristina Vespucci and spent the night with her. Caught by Cristina's father the morning after, Ezio fled from a group of pursuing guards before meeting with his father at the Palazzo Auditore. Giovanni scolded him (but later admits that he is reminded of his own youth) and assigned him the task of delivering several letters to his contacts.

After returning home, Ezio found his distraught sister crying after discovering her boyfriend had been unfaithful. After obtaining his whereabouts, Ezio beat the man and warned him to stay away from his sister. Upon returning to the palazzo again, his little brother Petruccio asked Ezio to collect eagle feathers from the rooftops, as he was ill and couldn't leave the house or get out of bed. After a tiring search for feathers, Ezio's mother secured his services in picking up some paintings from a young artist that she patronized, Leonardo da Vinci. On the walk home, Leonardo struck up a conversation, beginning a friendship between the two young men that would last throughout their adult lives.

Arrest and execution of his family
After completing his errands, Ezio returned home to find the house ransacked, his father and brothers missing and his mother and sister hiding. Learning that city guards had been ordered to arrest Giovanni and all of his sons, Ezio made his way to the Palazzo della Signoria, where his father and brothers were being held. Climbing the building and speaking to his father through his cell window, Ezio was instructed to find a chest hidden in his office, to take everything out of it and to deliver a sealed letter to Uberto Alberti, Lorenzo de' Medici's personal assistant and a close friend of the Auditore family. Doing so, Ezio found the Assassin robes that he would wear for the next 23 years and the letter containing details of a plot against the city of Florence and the Auditore family. Ezio brought the incriminating documents to Alberti and was assured that his family would be released the following day when the information was presented as evidence of their innocence.

The next day, Ezio returned to the Piazza della Signoria to find Alberti presiding over the execution of the Auditores (watched over all the while by a mysterious stranger who had been present with Alberti the previous night). Giovanni claimed his innocence, citing the information given to Alberti as evidence. But Alberti denied any knowledge of such information. Ezio's efforts to prevent the execution were ultimately in vain, and he could only watch helplessly as his father and brothers were hung. When he attempted to charge the scaffold to avenge his kinsmen, Alberti ordered the city guards to murder him. At the urging of one of Giovanni's friends, a thief, Ezio fled the Piazza della Signoria and sought shelter in a brothel, run by the sister of the Auditore housemaid, a courtesan named Paola.

Paola, who unbeknownst to Ezio was an Assassin herself, agreed to assist Ezio in his quest for vengeance, teaching him how to survive in the city as an outlaw through pickpocketing and blending in crowds. She further directed Ezio to Leonardo da Vinci to repair the Hidden Blade of the late Giovanni Auditore, but did not notice that Ezio was being watched. At Leonardo's workshop, a guard banged on the door, ordered Leonardo outside and tried to beat him to learn Ezio's whereabouts. Ezio realized something was wrong and crept up the guard, stabbing him from behind. After Leonardo fixed the blade, Ezio sought out and assassinated Alberti in the courtyard of the Basilica of Santa Croce, stabbing him multiple times in the heart before proudly shouting his name to everyone present, marking Alberti as his first assassination.

Start as an Assassin
Now the most wanted man in Florence, Ezio fled the city with his mother and sister in the hopes of making their way to Spain, stopping beforehand at the Auditore family's villa in the town of Monteriggioni for shelter. During their travel to Monteriggioni, the three were accosted by Vieri de' Pazzi and his followers, but were saved by the timely arrival of Ezio's uncle, Mario, and his Mercenaries. Mario informed Ezio of the existence of the Assassins, in an obvious attempt to induct him into the Order, revealing that many of his ancestors, including Giovanni, were part of it. However, Ezio refused his ancestry, wishing only to continue his journey to Spain to ensure his mother and sister's safety. Enraged, Mario left Monteriggioni for the city of San Gimignano, where Vieri de' Pazzi had been located, in the attempt to relieve Monteriggioni of continual assaults by his minions. Guilt-ridden and knowing his presence was a primary reason for the ongoing attacks, Ezio traveled to San Gimignano to accept Mario's offer.

When Ezio arrived outside the city, he joined Mario and his mercenaries in their assault, waiting until nightfall to make their way to Vieri de' Pazzi by killing guards patrolling near the city gates. After witnessing a brief meeting between Rodrigo Borgia, Jacopo de' Pazzi, Francesco de' Pazzi and Vieri, Ezio encountered and fought Vieri for the last time, eventually overpowering and killing him after a brief duel. Ezio tried to extract a confession from his old enemy, but to no avail as Vieri chose to be snide even to the very end. Infuriated by this, Ezio flew into a rage and insulted Vieri's corpse until his uncle calmed him down and reminded him of a tradition of the Assassins: showing respect to those they have killed.

Killing the Pazzi
Following Vieri's death, Ezio returned to Florence to gather information from La Volpe and prevent the planned Pazzi takeover, as well as the deaths of Lorenzo de' Medici and Guilani de' Medici. Arriving too late to save Guilani, Ezio managed to prevent the death of Lorenzo, the ruler of Florence, and restored his family's good name. However, the Pazzi had already succeeded in their plan and brought the city into a state of civil war. After learning the location of Francesco de' Pazzi at the Piazza della Signoria, Ezio chased him down and slew him, although Jacopo de' Pazzi and several other conspirators were able to escape the city. Shortly afterwards, the Medici publicly cleared the name of the Auditore family and provided Ezio with the names of the conspirators who had escaped.

Learning that the Pazzi conspirators had fled to San Gimignano, Ezio tracked down and killed Antonio Maffei, Stefano da Bagnone, Bernardo di Bandino Baroncelli and Francesco Salviati, extracting from each man information on Jacopo de' Pazzi's hiding place. Using the information, Ezio located his quarry and tracked Jacopo to an ancient Roman theatre. Once there, Ezio eavesdropped on a meeting between Jacopo, Rodrigo Borgia and a Venetian merchant, Emilio Barbarigo. After fatally wounding Jacopo for his failure to capture Florence, Borgia revealed that he was aware of Ezio's presence. While Borgia and Emilio fled, Ezio was apprehended by Borgia's bodyguards, but he overpowered and killed them, before swiftly putting the dying Jacopo out of his misery.

Venice
With the Pazzi conspiracy ended, Ezio returned to Lorenzo and declared his success. Before leaving the city for Venice, Ezio was granted a gift; a Medici cape, that would keep the city guards' attention from him. Ezio then made his way to Leonardo's workshop, only to find that he had just left for Venice himself. Meeting with Leonardo in the Appennine Mountains, Ezio accompanied him to the city of Forlì, narrowly avoiding the Templar soldiers sent after them by Rodrigo Borgia.

Eventually arriving in Forlì, the two made their way to the city docks, where Ezio was refused passage without a pass. It was at this moment that the two heard the screams of a noble lady stranded in the city's wetlands. Ezio swiftly hastened to her rescue and was able to row the woman ashore. The lady introduced herself as Caterina Sforza and coerced the dockman into granting Ezio passage to Venice. Once in Venice, Ezio and Leonardo were given a brief tour of the city by Alvise before Ezio began to seek a way into the Palazzo of Emilio Barbarigo, although this effort proved to be in vain. Suddenly pushed aside, Ezio watched as a gang of thieves attempted and failed to breach the Palazzo, leading Ezio to subsequently aid the thief Rosa, who had been shot through the leg with an arrow. After successfully escaping the city guards, Ezio was introduced to the leader of the Venetian thieves guild, Antonio, and together, they concocted a new plot to kill Emilio Barbarigo and liberate the merchant district.

The plot was successful and gave Ezio the name of another Templar conspirator – Carlo Grimaldi. A government official and member of the Council of Ten, Carlo was close to Giovanni Mocenigo, the Doge of Venice and hoped to turn him to the Templar cause. Overhearing another meeting between Borgia and Carlo, Ezio uncovered a plot to poison the Doge and replace him with Marco Barbarigo. Returning to Antonio, he sought to find a way into the Palazzo Ducale, the Doge's Palace, searching the front gates, the rear walls and even passing over the Basilica di San Marco; but they were hampered at every turn. Returning to the piazza below, an enraged Antonio remarked that only birds might get into the Doge's palace, reminding Ezio of Leonardo's flying machine, which he had seen on the way to Forlì. After a somewhat unsuccessful test flight, Leonardo came up with a way to ensure that Ezio reached his destination.

After removing the city guards at four separate locations, Antonio's thieves proceeded to light massive bonfires throughout the city, giving Ezio the lift Leonardo's flying machine needed to make it to the Palazzo Ducale. The plan worked, and Ezio breached the Palazzo Ducale, although he was too late to save the Doge. Carlo fled the scene, crying out that Ezio had assassinated the Doge, but met his own end at Ezio's hands moments later. However, Ezio was now the most wanted man in Venice and was forced to flee the city guards. Returning to Leonardo's workshop for help, Ezio was directed to Sister Teodora's brothel, where Antonio was hiding. Under the cover of Carnevale, Ezio made his way to the brothel and began planning the death of Marco Barbarigo, competing in the four games of the Carnevale to win the golden mask that would gain him entrance to Marco's private party. Ezio was successful but found that Marco's cousin, Silvio Barbarigo and Marco's personal slave-bodyguard, Dante Moro intimidated and bribed the judges into denying him his prize. However, Ezio was successful in regaining the mask and managed to assassinate Marco, leaving the door open for Agostino, a Barbarigo not involved with the Templars, and an ally of Antonio's, to legitimately become Doge.

With his quest nearly at an end, Ezio tracked down Silvio Barbarigo and Dante Moro, liberating the mercenary leader, Bartolomeo d'Alviano, and his soldiers in the process. Having tracked the Templars down to the city's Arsenal, Ezio managed to storm the building with the help of Bartolomeo and his men, and kill Dante Moro and Silvio Barbarigo. However, he was astonished to learn that the plot to remove the Doge was merely a distraction, so that the Templars could move their vessel to Cyprus, although the reasons for this were unknown to Ezio.

Induction into the Order
Two more years passed before word of the Templar vessel reached Ezio once again on his twenty ninth birthday, when Rosa brought him a shipping manifest detailing the return of the ship that very day. Sneaking into the Arsenal, Ezio watched as a Templar soldier carrying a Piece of Eden disembarked from the ship and made his way to a Templar base in the city. Following the soldier, Ezio assassinated and impersonated the guard, carrying the Piece of Eden to a meeting with Rodrigo Borgia himself. Finally able to confront the man ultimately responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers, Ezio criticized the Templar Grand Master for the non-appearance of the supposed "prophet" detailed in the Codex prophecy. Borgia responded, proudly naming himself the prophet before engaging Ezio in battle. The battle was short, and Ezio easily bested the Templar. On the backfoot, Borgia called upon the city guards and taunted the Assassin, saying that "his people" had failed to show up.

At this very moment Mario Auditore, Antonio, Paola, Teodora, La Volpe and Bartolomeo d'Alviano appeared, driving off Borgia and revealing themselves to Ezio as Assassins. With the arrival of Niccolò Machiavelli, it was revealed to Ezio that he was in fact the supposed "prophet", and that for the past decade they had all worked together to induct Ezio into the Assassins Order. That night, they all met again and Ezio was formally inducted into the Order.

The Battle of Forlì
Shortly after his induction, Ezio met with Mario and Niccolò, and traveled to Leonardo da Vinci's studio, hoping he could shed some light upon the strange artifact Borgia had dubbed "the Apple". Leonardo examined the unique device, commenting that the metal it was made of should not exist, and that its design was highly advanced despite its age. Briefly touching the Apple, Ezio accidentally activated the device, which started to glow and show strange holographic images. De-activating the device, Niccolò announced that he had arranged for the Piece of Eden to be held in the Rocca di Ravaldino, protected by an ally of the Assassin's, Caterina Sforza. Niccolò and Ezio met with Caterina in Romagna, just outside the city of Forlì. After briefly discussing the Apple, the three made their way back to the city, only to find that it had been invaded by the Orsi brothers; Checco and Ludovico.

As the group fought its way to the city's locked gates, Ezio managed to find another way inside and opened the the gates, allowing them to continue their way to the Citadel. Reaching the Rocca di Ravaldino, they found out that two of Caterina’s children, Ottaviano and Bianca, were in the hands of the Orsi brothers, who had recently arrived and begun attacking the Citadel. Repelling the attack, Ezio left the Apple in Caterina's hands, before going to rescue her two children.

Making his way into Romagna, Ezio overpowered the guard detail assigned to imprison Bianca, who directed Ezio to her brother Ottaviano. As Bianca fled back to the city, Ezio made his way the the lighthouse upon which Ottaviano was being held by Ludovico himself. Climbing the tower, Ezio dispatched Ludovico and freed Ottaviano, though not before learning that the kidnapping was a distraction, which had allowed the brothers to steal the Apple. Ezio swiftly tracked down and killed Checco Orsi and his remaining men. Retrieving the Apple, Ezio failed to notice that Checco had stabbed him in the abdomen. Injured, Ezio collapsed to the floor, the Apple rolling from his hand. Before losing consciousness Ezio saw a monk with a missing finger pick up the Apple and walk away, despite Ezio's warnings against doing so.

Caterina’s guards later found Ezio next to Checco’s corpse and returned him to Forlì, where Caterina nursed him back to health. Returned to his senses, Ezio hurridly explained to Caterina that the Apple had been stolen from him by a man in black. She recognized him for a monk and told Ezio to search for the monk at the church outside the city walls. There was no sign of the monk, but Ezio met with Brother O’Callahan, who told him to continue his search at San Vincenzo, in central Forlì. An abbot there identified Ezio as Stefano de Bagnone's killer and ran away, but was intercepted, and, once convinced he was not about to die, gave Ezio the name of the four fingered monk: Girolamo Savonarola.
{{Quote|My name is Ezio Auditore da Firenze... It has been fifteen years since the Spaniard, Rodrigo Borgia, murdered my family and drove me into exile... Since that time I have suffered greatly but learned a great deal more- I am an Assassin, as my father and grandfathers were before me. Compelled by duty to my order, I have set aside my search for the Spaniard to recover an ancient artifact recently stolen from us.
While trying to locate Savonarola, Ezio was told by a Thief to meet Antonio at the Thieves' Guild in Venice. Upon arriving there, Ezio found Antonio accompanied by another man, Luis Santangel. Luis was looking for a good "killer" who could oversee a meeting involving Luis' friend Christoffa Corombo, but Ezio expressed no interest. However, when he heard that Rodrigo Borgia was also involved in the meeting, he rushed to Christoffa's location, finding out that it was a trap. However, he managed to save Christoffa, who explained that Rodrigo was interested in his plans to sail west. Soon afterwards, Ezio met with Antonio again, who told him to go see both Luis and Christoffa in the gardens district.

They then told him that the Templars were in possession of Christoffa's atlas, which featured the journey's route. Ezio quickly recovered the atlas and brought it back to Christoffa and Luis. Luis informed Ezio of the presence of Spanish Assassins, who were held captive by the Spanish Inquisitor General, Tomas Torquemada. Thinking it his mission to rescue them, Ezio temporarily diverged from his goal to reobtain the Apple of Eden and set out to Spain, but not before Antonio gave him the names of two of his contacts.

After arriving in Spain and briefly losing his sword to a thief, Ezio went on to look for one of the contacts. When he arrived at the location, he met a man who called himself Raphael Sanchez and soon after revealed himself to be an Assassin. He informed Ezio of the location of the first captured Assassin, and Ezio rushed to save him. Right before the Assassin could be burned by the Inquisitors, Ezio killed all the guards and freed him. After Ezio's return, Raphael revealed that it was Gaspard Martinez who was ordered to capture the Assassins by Torquemada. Ezio located Gaspard and found him, Torquemada and a guard surrounding a captured Assassin.

Torquemada revealed to the captured Assassin, and indirectly to Ezio, that Rodrigo Borgia had ordered him to capture Assassins in Spain, because they were "non-believers" (in the Catholic religion). After the guard killed the Assassin, the group disbanded and Gaspard was left unguarded. Ezio then met with him and asked him what he knew of the Templars, but Gaspard feigned ignorance and said that they "went away two centuries ago". He fell silently to Ezio's blade, and Ezio acquired a list of six other Assassins' names.<br />
After freeing the first man on the list, Ezio took him back to Raphael, informing the latter of the existence of the list. However, all the remaining Assassins were located in Zaragoza.

Once in Zaragoza, Raphael told Ezio to find the Inquisition's Calficador, Pedro Llorente, whose tribunal met at the far side of town. Arriving there, Ezio found that Torquemada was also present. One of the Assassins was being tried, and after he refused to convert and confess, was killed. Ezio eavesdropped on the ensuing conversation and found out that Torquemada was under orders from Rodrigo Borgia to arrest the Assassins. He hurried to locate the remaining five Assassins. Four of them where held captive inside some catacombs. The last was held inside a church. After securing their safety, Ezio killed Pedro Llorente. Returning to Raphael, he requested to return to Italy. However, Raphael still needed some help against the Inquisitors in Granada. Ezio complied, helping to assassinate a Templar spy in the city and discovering along the way that Luis Santangel was also an Assassin. Once his task was complete, Ezio was free to continue his quest for Savonarola.

The Bonfire of the Vanities
After Lorenzo de’ Medici's death, Savonarola was able to easily take control over Florence with the Apple of Eden at his command. He taught the population of Florence that personal property and knowledge made the difference between the rich and the poor. Therefore, he burned everything related to the Renaissance in the Bonfire of the Vanities.

Ezio and Niccolò Machiavelli wanted to put a stop to Savonarola's rule with the aid of their two comrades in the city, Paola and Volpe. Ezio began eliminating the monk's brainwashed followers while Niccolò, Paola, and Volpe organized a riot in the city. Soon after Ezio killed Savonarola's followers, the rioters formed an angry mob and went to the Palazzo Pitti, where Savonarola resided, demanding an end to the bonfires. Savanarola tried to use the Apple to quell the riot, but before he could, one of the assassins threw a knife at him, knocking the Apple out of his hand. In the ensuing chaos, the Apple was picked up by a guard in service to the Borgia (the Templars had also been trying, without success, to recover the Apple from Savonarola). Ezio followed him, killed him and recovered the Apple. Savonarola was then sentenced to be executed in the same way he had dealt with the city's knowledge: burned at the stake on the Piazza della Signoria. However, Ezio decided that no one should have to die in such agony. The Assassin leapt onto the execution platform and put Savonarola out of his misery. He then looked at the stunned mob and gave a speech to them, urging them to follow their own path and rely on their own thoughts, not what they were told by the ones in power. He then left with Mario, Niccolò, Paola and La Volpe, ready to uncover the answers hidden within the Apple.
Infiltrating the Sistine Chapel
The following year, in 1499, the Assassins came together once more at the Villa Auditore, with the Piece of Eden and the completed Codex in hand. Using the two objects, they discovered the location of the Vault to be in Rome, specifically, beneath the Vatican. Unfortunately, Rodrigo Borgia had become Pope in 1492, although Mario believed he had only done so to gain access to the Papal Staff, another of the Pieces of Eden. Undeterred, Ezio made way to assassinate Rodrigo Borgia.

Fighting his way along the entire length of the Passetto di Borgo, Ezio snuck into the Sistine Chapel and struck at Borgia from above. As he was about to deal the killing blow, Borgia surprised him by using the Staff to blast him away and drain the energy of those in the room. Since Ezio held the Apple, he was immune to the Staff's effects, and the two engaged in a duel. Ezio repeated history by using the same technique Al Mualim utilized in his duel against Altaïr in 1191, by creating multiple illusions of himself with the Apple. Ezio seemingly bested Borgia, but the Pope counterattacked and overcame him. Borgia took the Apple, stabbed Ezio in the abdomen and left him to die before fleeing into the Vault. However, Ezio's wounds were not mortal, and he was able to give pursuit. Outside the Vault, Ezio watched as Borgia tried in vain to open it. Laying down his arms, Ezio challenged and defeated Borgia in a fist fight, obtaining possession of both the Staff and the Apple, but refusing to take Borgia’s life, having realised the futility of revenge.

Killing you won't bring my family back. I am done.

Entering the Vault, Ezio stood in shock as he was confronted by a hologram of an individual naming herself "Minerva" and claiming to be one of "Those Who Came Before". Ezio was further confounded when the hologram sought to speak to an unseen figure named Desmond, before disappearing abruptly, leaving Ezio with many questions.

Siege of Monteriggioni
Following his experience in the Vault, Ezio returned to Monteriggioni. However he soon learnt that the Templar threat had diminished little when Cesare Borgia, the son of Rodrigo and a high ranked Templar, laid siege to Monteriggioni. His army of soldiers, towers and cannons breached the city's gates and destroyed much of the city and Villa. Ezio, who was sleeping with Caterina Sforza at the time of the attack, woke up, got dressed and met with Mario to discuss their options. Mario tasked Ezio with keeping the Templars from the city walls, whilst Mario himself led the evacuation of the city .

Ezio made his way to the city walls, and using the cannons, destroyed several of Cesare’s siege engines. Eventually however, the Templars breached the city gates, and entered, Mario Auditore in hand. Standing at the city gates, the Apple of Eden in his hand, Cesare 'invited' Ezio to come to Rome with a shot of his firearm; the shot killed Mario. The Apple in hand, Cesare returned to Rome whilst Ezio, who had been shot by a Borgia riflemen atop the city walls blacked out .

Upon regaining conciousness, Ezio travelled to Rome.

Journey to Rome
Arriving in Rome, Ezio found the city in disrepair and under thumb of Cesare Borgia &ndash; son of the Pope. Basing himself on Tiber Island, in the centre of the city, Ezio rebuilt the complex into his new headquarters and begun his renewed war against the Knights Templar. In 1503, Cesare and his father paraded through Rome when they were ambushed by Ezio Auditore and his apprenticed Assassins.

Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito. Requiescat in Pace.
Initially, Ezio was a young Florentine nobleman, who lived during the 15th and 16th Century. Unlike his ancestor Altaïr, he was brought up without knowing of the Assassins' existence, or of his heritage. A seducer of women and a playful man, Ezio possessed acrobatic skills beyond his peers, save for his brother and father. He came from an affluent background and had many friends until the deaths of his father and brothers drove him out of Florence. Forced to protect his mother and sister, Ezio became an Assassin, exacting revenge on the conspirators who had betrayed his family and plotted to seize both Florence and Venice .

Quick to anger, Ezio often allowed his emotions to overcome him, going so far as to disrespect the corpse of Vieri de' Pazzi just after his death. However, Ezio did manage to gain control of his anger, and by the time he had become a Master Assassin, could control it almost completely.
Equipment and skills
Despite its age, its construction is rather advanced

Ezio Auditore da Firenze was a highly skilled Assassin and a leader amongst the Order. A master of multiple skills, including theft, blending, armed and unarmed combat, stealth assassination techniques, free-running and long-distance combat, he was able to use a variety of weapons including two hidden blades, the longsword, throwing knives and more. Born with the ability to use Eagle Vision, Ezio could instinctively differentiate friend from foe.

An explorer, throughout his quests, Ezio scoured the cities he visited in search of Codex pages and seals from the six assassins tombs spread across northern Italy. The Codex pages allowed Leonardo di Vinci to upgrade his weaponry, including the addition of a wheel lock firearm and poison needle concealed beneath his left hidden blade.

By collecting the six tomb seals, Ezio gained access to the armor created by his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. He also collected capes that helped him stay incognito. The only exception to this was the cape bearing the Auditore family crest, which made him easily recognizable, due to his family's history.

Romantic life
Ezio was known for his good looks, flirtatious nature and predisposition for womanizing. Throughout the course of his war against Rodrigo Borgia, Ezio shared romantic relationships of varying degrees with women throughout Italy.

In 1476, Ezio had a relationship with Cristina Vespucci, a beautiful young Florentine woman. Ignoring Federico's plea to let Cristina rest, Ezio entered the young woman's room via the window and made love to her, he was chased out by her father the next morning. Two years later, when Ezio returned to Florence, Cristina was married to one of her suitors, Manfredo d'Arzenta, even though she still loved Ezio.

In 1486, Cristina and Manfredo travelled to Venice for the carnival. Posing as her husband, Ezio wrote her a letter asking her to come to the Rio Terra degli Ogniscanti. Cristina complied. As both wore carnevale masks, she did not recognise him until he kissed her. She then took off his mask and asked him how he dared kiss her like that, telling him she never wanted to see him again. When Ezio tried to understand, she explained that if he really loved her, he wouldn't simply have let Manfredo marry her. Several years later, Girolamo Savonarola's men killed Cristina, deeply wounding Ezio.

While trying to find a way to Venice, Ezio first made a stop in Forlì. He could not initially board the ship to sail to Venice with Leonardo, but his fortunes changed after encountering Caterina Sforza. Caterina was stranded on a small island with no means of escape. Ezio rescued her, and she repaid the favor by granting him passage to Venice. She also told him that the next time he returned to Forli, it would "be her pleasure" to invite him. Afterwards, while sailing for Venice, Ezio told Leonardo that she was his future conquest and his type of woman. Leonardo then revealed Caterina's identity as the Countess of Forlì and said that seducing her would not be such a good idea, as she was a married woman.

At some point during his time in Forlì, Ezio encountered a girl named Amelia. During this encounter, Amelia and two of her friends were discussing whether anyone could beat their record in a horseback riding race. Ezio took on the challenge, in return for an intimate encounter with Amelia, should he prove successful.

When Ezio arrived in Venice for the first time, an unknown young woman unsuccessfully attempted to pickpocket him. Later the same day, Ezio witnessed the woman and a group of thieves attempting to scale the Palazzo della Seta. The attempt ended in failure, and the girl was shot in the leg by an archer. Ezio intervened, defending her from Emilio Barbarigo's thugs and helping her to get to safety, learning in the process that her name was Rosa, and that she was a member of the city's Thieves Guild. At first, Rosa's attitude towards Ezio was very aggressive and unfriendly, but after he saved her, she became much more amenable.

While trying to acquire the Golden Mask, Ezio was seen flirting with many of Sister Teodora's Courtesans. After the CTF challenge, when Ezio goes up to accept the Golden Mask as his prize for victory, he is accompanied by a Courtesan, though it was not uncommon for an unwed man to take courtesans on "dates" during the Renaissance period. After assassinating Marco Barbarigo and seeking sanctuary in the brothel, Ezio was known to have flirted with Sister Teodora, who invited several of her girls to "comfort" Ezio.

It is clear that Ezio had many encounters with various unnamed Florentine girls and courtesans before the execution of his family; insulting Vieri de' Pazzi by suggesting that his sister seemed "quite satisfied with the handling he gave her earlier."

In 1499, Ezio is seen sleeping with Caterina Sforza in his Monteriggioni villa before getting attacked by the Borgia family.

Trivia
*The Italian name "Ezio" derives from the Greek word aetos, which means "eagle", similar to Altaïr, whose name means "The Flying One".
*Ezio is 40 years old in 1499 (15 years older than Altaïr's age in 1191); the same age as his father upon his death in 1476.
*Ezio is the character whose physical appearance changes the most over the 23-year period of the game, others look mostly the same.
*If you move the camera to a certain angle, Ezio's face has barely aged, except for the beard, despite the fact that you played through 23 years of his life. His voice does deepen and mature over time, though, making him sound calmer and talk slower. He also appears to lose his tan over time probably due to the fact that he is in hiding through most of his life.
*Just like Altaïr and Desmond, Ezio has a scar on his mouth, acquired after the mission "Boys Will Be Boys" during Sequence 1, when Vieri de' Pazzi throws a rock at his face.
*According to the Database, Ezio was expelled from his school at the age of 17 due to a link to some terrible crime, after which he "disappeared from history". This is likely referring to the supposed plot by the Auditore to overthrow the Medici. Anything after that wouldn't be public knowledge, so as far as recorded history is concerned, Ezio simply disappeared after the death of his father and brothers.
*Ezio has been seriously injured in battle three times. The first two injuries were stab wounds to his lower abdomen. He was stabbed in the right side by Checco Orsi after retrieving the Apple of Eden from him, and in the left side by Rodrigo Borgia during their battle in the Sistine Chapel. The third injury was at the Seige of Monteriggioni by Cesare Borgia. The latter executed Mario before a Borgia rifleman shot Ezio in his left shoulder.

The Modern Times is the time period the Assassin's Creed games actually take place in.

Description
The war between Assassins and Templars still continue, although the Assassins have greatly decreased in numbers and gone mostly into hiding, the Templars have grown and are publicly disguised. One of these disguises is the company Abstergo. It is still uncertain just how much the Templars have grown in influence and how many organizations like Abstergo exist.

Earth in 2012 is a drastically different world than we would recognize today. If you read Vidic's E-mails you will learn that a 'Second Plague' has struck Africa, leaving 96% of Africans dead in a three month period and the continent nearly uninhabited. Another e-mail states that Mexico is increasing its border security to prevent more illegal American immigrants from entering the country and inciting violence between them and Mexican troops. These border brawls have lead to the deaths of 300 and leaving 1000 injured. The motion-picture industry has collapsed, as the last film studio has closed due to piracy and the rising prominence of video games. Abstergo Industries is being investigated for manipulating a small town's water supply in order to test a synthetic drug referred to as New Fluoride. This has pressured Abstergo to launch their satellite on December 21st to avoid having their assets frozen. The U.S. and E.U. are constructing jointly owned oil platforms in the Weddell Sea. 'Hurricane Season' has become a yearly occurrence as hurricane duration, frequency, strength, and location have increased to the point where most coastal cities must now live in constant fear of these devastating storms.

At the end of Assassin's Creed II, it is revealed that the earth is possibly going to experience a geomagnetic reversal in the near future. This is revealed by Minerva at the end of Assassin's Creed II. The pictures by Minerva look Mayan, and December 2012 is when the Meso-American longcount calender falls upon the 13th longcount. The last time a 13th longcount passed was August 11, 3114 BCE. Each longcount ushers in a new era, so the Mayans thought, and was welcomed with celebration. However, there are some who believe that this means that the Mayan thought that the world would end on that date, with the all too common 'their calender stops at December 21, 2012' phrase, but the calender actually extends to a repeating of the longcount 1.0.0.0.0.0, last seen November 13th, 2720 BCE. No dates follow this particular longcount (occurring on October 13th, 4772) but there is no reason to suggest the world comes to an end, rather, that the dates were simply getting irrelevant to their culture's own time period and they felt no need to go further. The game's storyline clearly makes use of the hype involving the reversal of the magnetic fields on Earth, leading to a period where solar radiation could easily penetrate to the surface and cause quite a few troubles for life. It is likely that the Pieces of Eden will be used to thwart this disaster in the third instalment, perhaps coupled with considerably more playtime in Modern Times.

It is interesting that although in 2012, neither Abstergo's guards or the Assassins use guns in Assassin's Creed II, instead using advanced weapon sticks resembling swords and hidden blades, respectively. When, however, the Assassins attack Abstergo in Assassins Creed, shooting can be heard. The reason that the Abstergo guards were using the weapon sticks was to not kill Desmond, Lucy, Rebecca, or Shaun, but rather knock unconscious. Abstergo still needs Desmond and his genetic memories, so killing him wouldn't help them achieve their goal, and by killing the others they could be losing valuable information on the Assassin's that could be extracted by torture or other methods.

It is suspected that the part of Assassin's Creed in the present takes place in Italy, considering that the outside of the hideout looks almost exactly like Florence in Ezio's time, and that the underground parking lot in Abstergo and the Assassin's hideout have signs that have words in Italian, including "sezione", which means "section" in English. In Abstergo's garage there are signs in Italian saying "Parcheggio reservato" meaning "Reserved parking" and "Altezza totale" meaning "Altitude". In the end of Assassins Creed II Lucy says that they can hide out in a cabin north and Rebecca later says that it's a long drive meaning that the cabin is possibly in Austria or Germany or Switzerland.
