What am I – who are you, my mum?

Shaun Hastings is a supporting character in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. He is voiced by and modeled after British author and comedian Danny Wallace. He assists Desmond Miles by creating database entries on various people, places and buildings he will encounter while in the Animus 2.0 (as well as giving tactical supports to the other Assassin teams across the planet, and those who are on field duty).

Biography
Early life
Shaun was interested in conspiracies and the unknown from an early age. Though he was initially unaware of the existence of modern-day Templars and Assassins, he did realize that there was a company called Abstergo Industries that was "up to no good" and decided to try and put a stop to them. Shaun tried to dig up information on Abstergo's activities and then attempted to tell others about his findings, not realizing that the Templars would try to silence him. Fortunately, Rebecca Crane "rescued" Shaun and recruited him into the Assassin Order. This was somewhat unconventional, as Assassins are usually born into the order.

Assassin's Base
Shaun's role in the order is to provide tactical support to the other Assassins. After Lucy Stillman and Desmond Miles escaped to the hideout, Desmond entered the Animus to relive his ancestor Ezio Auditore's memories. Shaun supplied Desmond with interesting database entries and the occasional piece of advice on glyph puzzles. However, as the de-facto historian of the Assassins, Shaun was always busy working on his computer and rarely had any opportunities to speak with Desmond – telling him to "go away."

Assassin's Sanctuary
After entering the sanctuary, Shaun continues on doing his research just like before. He seems to be much nicer to Desmond now (probably since they only talk about history). Though he is still just as rude as ever toward Rebecca which causes Lucy to make him work more shifts. After Desmond completed the 9th sequence of Ezio Auditore's memories, they are still left with the mystery of where the Apple of Eden is. Desmond points out to the numbers on the wall as well as the triple triad symbol meaning something, upon which Shaun correctly deduces that they are relevant to God and God's number 72, which he also states is the same year that Rome's Colosseum was built. They all decided that's where the Apple would be, and take a long road trip there. When they find the Apple, they get Desmond to use it to ask where all the temples are. Shaun, upon seeing and identifying the Phrygian Cap, which stands for freedom, and the Eye of Providence, which he said both come together in only one place. However before he could say what place it was, Juno possessed Desmond through the Apple, causing a temporal time freeze to those around him, and forced Desmond to stab Lucy in the abdomen, however Shaun's fate - along with Rebecca's - remains unclear. At the point where Lucy and Desmond collapse, and the scene is revisited after the credits, he and Rebecca are still visibly conscious and apparently unaffected by the Apple's power.

Characteristics and personality
Shaun is often cynical, condescending, sarcastic, and pessimistic, but does have a playful side, often inserting humorous tidbits into the database entries of the Renaissance characters. Sometimes he will have little patience to talk to Desmond, other times he will lead off into long conversations. While Shaun's annoyance is usually directed at Desmond, he does insult Rebecca's immaturity by saying "the grown-ups are talking now" – even though she says she saved his life multiple times. During the modern segments, Shaun is secretly desperate in wanting to enter the Animus, he even resorts in begging Lucy through E-mail (which she silently declines by not replying the mail). Although when he is confronted about it he'll say that "the job behind the desk" is much better. When talking about his status as an Assassin, Shaun says "I've killed before, I expect to kill again. It's just that I’d prefer not to". He often plays the rather sarcastic role of the one who does all the work and doesn't get noticed, as he has complain more than once that "no one missed me." His cynical attitude can be seen when he points out quickly that the Assassins are still killers whatever their motives; making them no more the "good guys" than the Templars. He no doubt holds Rebecca in higher regard than he likes to admit, since she did save him from Abstergo. Only Lucy seems to be above his snide remarks, either as a sign of greater respect or because he knows not to mess with her. Even though he initially despises Desmond, in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, he seems to show a lot more respect (and sympathy) towards Desmond.

Trivia
*Danny Wallace, the voice of the character, was contacted by Ubisoft when he went to the BAFTA video game awards with a friend. He was e-mailed and asked if he would like to be a character in an unknown video game, which he accepted. The game turned out to be Assassin's Creed II.
*Shaun states during the corrupted sequences that he forgot Rodrigo Borgia eventually became Pope even though there is a portrait of him on the wall next to his computer.
*In one conversation with Desmond, Shaun tells him that he has his own special type of ability, which allows him to see information and decode it more easily. He compares it to Desmond's Eagle Vision, only more "useful" in his opinion. He was probably referring more to his high intellect than some kind of super-human ability.
*The character Shaun Hastings is named after Sean Hastings, a cult hero in the computer industry.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Shaun has a portrait of Cesare Borgia near his desk, as well as pictures of famous landmarks in Rome, such as the Pantheon, and some of Leonardo da Vinci's designs, like the crossbow.
*Shaun once dated a girl named Kate, whom he fondly calls Kitty-Kat. However, he is openly embarrassed when Rebecca reveals that, over lunch, Kate had told Rebecca that she and Shaun had never made it to second base.
*Shaun's password for his e-mail account is GuyFawkes23, which likely refers to Guy Fawkes, a man who was instrumental in the failed Gunpowder Plot, in 1605.
*It was hinted as a child, he was an altar boy due to his priest saying "You know too much for your own good".
*Shaun tried to uncover Abstergo's plan through the Wikileaks site, however Abstergo found out and removed the cable

Over the course of his training to become an Assassin, Desmond Miles had various conversations with his fellow Assassins - Shaun Hastings, Rebecca Crane and Lucy Stillman. Here follow a list of those conversations:

Assassin's Creed II
After arriving in the Hideout

Desmond: Hey, I just wanted to say thank you, and tham I'm sorry.

Lucy: Sorry?

Desmond: Yeah, you know, everything back at Abstergo, it just.. I wasn't ready.

Lucy: It's okay.

Desmond: No, going through all that, knowing that the Templars still exist, what they're planning..

Lucy: What's done is done. You're here now and that's what matters.

Desmond: Lucy, I've been seeing things, symbols in my bedroom, the code on the keypad.. just like Altaïr.

Lucy: It's from the bleeding effect, you're taking on more than your ancestor's memories, you're taking on their skills too.

Desmond: Skills?

Lucy: You're more receptive now, so if everything goes well, everything Ezio learns in the Animus, you'll learn too.

Desmond: You really think that this will work? That I'll become an Assassin?

Lucy: You already are an Assassin, you'll just be better at it.

Shaun: Yeah, hopefully much better at it. I watched the tapes from Abstergo, you didn't even try and escape

Desmond: What a dick.

Rebecca: Hey Desmond, what's up?

Desmond: Just wondering what's yor role in all this.

Rebecca: Me? I take care of the Baby. It's my job to keep her up and running.

Desmond: Baby? You mean the Animus.

Rebecca: Actually, I prefer Animus two-point-oh since Baby's twice as awesome than anything you'll find at Abstergo. The Templars may have deeper pockets, but they have no ambition, no passion, no competetive edge! That's why, event with all their resources, anything they can do, I can do better. Faster too.

Subject 16 was an individual who was kidnapped by Abstergo Industries and forced into the Animus before Desmond Miles. A descendant of both Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, he was also related to Desmond Miles. It is also known that he had an ancestor at the Battle of Gettysburg, in the Roman forum and connected with a Queen Isabella.

Biography
Life at Abstergo
The individual known only as Subject 16 was an Assassin captured by the Templar-fronted organization Abstergo Industries for use in the genetic memory recall program. Held within the Abstergo Laboratory at all times by Warren Vidic, 16 was kept connected to the Animus for dangerously long periods, sometimes even days at a time. This led to 16 suffering from a severe condition known as the "Bleeding Effect."

Suffering the bleeding effect, 16 began to explore the memories of his ancestors without the use of the Animus, however his inability to actually control these visions forced Subject 16 into a downward spiral of insanity, eventually culminating in his evident suicide.

Before his death, Subject 16 was forced by Abstergo to explore the memories of an ancestor named Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who the Templars knew had located the Vault during his lifetime. 16 never relived the memories of his ancestor visiting the Vault. Draining his body of its blood to paint several cryptic messages upon the floor and walls of the Abstergo Laboratory, 16 committed suicide to prevent the Templars reaching their goals.

Legacy
Following his death, the Templars were left without the location of the Vault, but the knowledge that an ancestor of Ezio’s - Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad - had once held a Piece of Eden. Knowing this, Abstergo kidnapped yet another descendant of Ezio and Altaïr, Desmond Miles. During his incarceration, Desmond spoke often with Dr. Vidic’s assistant Lucy Stillman about many things including his predecessor, then accessing private e-mails in-between Animus sessions, he learned even more. Later still, following Desmond’s escape from Abstergo and the beginning of his journeys through the memories of Ezio, the Assassins learned that Subject 16 had managed to hack the Abstergo Animus before his death, and placed twenty encrypted files, called glyphs, throughout the Animus' rendering of the memories. These hacks were saved onto the Abstergo Animus' memory core, which Lucy had taken in order to gain details and memory sequences on Ezio, and from there, onto Rebecca Crane's Animus 2.0.

After decrypting all twenty files, the Assassins were rewarded with a genetic memory dated "date classified BCE." The video, shows two free-runners climbing a large glass structure, Piece of Eden in hand; before referring to one another as Adam and Eve. The video also shows humans working for Those Who Came Before.

Subject 16's puzzles return in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in the form of Cluster puzzles hidden in Rifts. After completing the puzzles, a video reveals the message "The miracle is in the execution," suggesting that (unlike the video hidden in the previous game) the Cluster puzzles instead concealed an executable file. Upon accessing it, Desmond will then be uploaded to an unknown area within the Animus, where he is free to run through a somewhat long virtual maze similar to those within the Animus Virtual Training Program. At the end of the maze, Desmond finds a hologram (partially broken and made of computing code) of Subject 16, who tells Desmond that all hope is lost, and to go to Eden to find a woman named Eve. Before leaving, he tells Desmond to "find me in the darkness."

Dialogue
Artistic Speculation
I haven't had the chance, myself, since selling the 360, but I wanted to ask; what visual effect does activating Eagle Vision take on the current role's eyes? I've heard, and seen it drawn as the assassin having a faintly golden iris, or completely blue shine. But again, I'm only wondering and would maybe like to see a few screens as reference.

Thought you can't see in game how it looks, La Volpe is another major Assassin, credited with strange purple eyes. Seeing as life of a theif means its important to know your friends and foes, he may use it almost all the time. Plus the landscape from AC2 and AC:Brotherhood is a mix of blues and purples, in Eagle Vision mode.
To all of you project legacy players: I have a minor speculation.

Eagle Vision is inherited by those of the lineage of Adam and Eve, and in Sequence 2 about Giovanni Borgia, Giovanni is using Eagle Vision. So could it be that Giovanni, and therefore his father, are related to Desmond, or perhaps Subject 16, since they are ,probably, the only modern-day assassins with Eagle Vision ??

86.92.101.25: /* Synchronization in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood */

Synchronization is the Assassin's Creed series' equivalent of a health meter. Since the events of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze experienced by Desmond in the Animus have already taken place in the past, Synchronization is a measure of how synchronized, or close to, Desmond's actions in the Animus are with the actual events in the past. If all Synchronization is lost, the simulation restarts from an earlier point.

Synchronization itself can be taken as how accurate Desmond's actions are compared to the original memories. The loss of Synchronization would therefore presumably be a sign that Desmond's (or more accurately, the player's) actions are not accurate to the past. Losing synch by killing civilians and falling from heights would mean that Altaïr or Ezio would not have performed those actions. Furthermore, additional memories, such as rescuing civilians and collecting Flags for Altaïr, and opening Chests and collecting Feathers for Ezio, would mean that Altaïr and Ezio actually performed these actions. That they are optional is an indication that they aren't essential to the recreation of the events in the Animus.

The Synch meter
[[File:Synchronization Bar 2.png|thumb|300px|This meter from the first game has nine bars, its capacity.
Note the DNA effect, symbolizing that the meter is full.]]

Synchronization is measured by a bar in the top left corner of the HUD. It displays Desmond's current level of synchronization with his ancestor.

The Synch meter can be turned off in the Options menu, as well as all other HUD elements.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed
If Synchronization is critically low, the screen will begin to flash blue and red to warn the player as the current memory begins to become unstable. If all Synchronization is lost, then the simulation will restart from an earlier point.

Synchronization can be lost for several reasons:
*Killing a civilian, breaking the First Tenet of The Creed.
*Taking damage in battle.
*Drowning, resulting in immediate desynchronization.
*Falling from a great height. The higher the height, the more synchronization will be lost.

At the beginning of Assassin's Creed, Desmond's very first use of the Animus causes almost immediate loss of Synchronization, because his subconscious couldn't handle the stress and trauma of the memory he was in.

Any Synchronization lost will recover over time.

Achievement
On the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed, you can unlock the Absolute Symbiosis achievement by obtaining all twenty bars of Synchronization.

Synch Meter Capacity
The capacity of the Synchronization meter is not static. It varies from 4 to 20. Synchronization capacity is determined by two components- base Synchronization (up to 13) and additional Synchronization (up to 7).

Base Synchronization
Altaïr's Base Synchronization is determined by his rank in the Assassins' Order. At the beginning of the game when he is a Master Assassin , his base Synchronization is 13. Once he is demoted to Novice, it falls to 4.

A full table:

width="50"| Rank
width="200"| Base Synchronization
4
2
5
3
6
4
12
10
13

Additional Synchronization
Additional Synchronization is Synchronization that the player earns by completing additional memories, such as saving citizens and Synchronizing on View Points. Once the player completes fifteen of these additional memories, the words "DNA Synchronization Augmented" will be displayed on the screen, and there will be another bar available on the Synch meter.

Up to seven bars of additional Synchronization can be obtained.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed II
The Synchronization bar in the first Assassin's Creed game has been replaced by a health bar, while synchronization itself has become a status that is increased by completing missions, recovering objects (Codex Pages, Feathers, statues, etc.), and unlocking Altaïr's Armor.

Maximum health, in turn, is increased by equipping armor and deciphering Codex Pages. Lost health can be restored by visiting a Doctor or by using medicine. Maximum health can be achieved whilst wearing Altaïr's Armor or a full Missaglias set, and by having all 30 Codex Pages deciphered.

Desynchronization can still happen due to death, killing 3 or more civilians, staying in an unavailable area for too long, failing mission objectives, and more. When this happens, all health is recovered, and the player is restored to the last checkpoint if they were in a mission at the time of desynchronization, or on the ground closest to where they died if they are not.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Synchronization has taken an extra step in Brotherhood, as you can now complete bonus objectives in certain memories to get 100% Memory Synchronization. These objectives include time limits, remaining undetected, or killing a target with a specific weapon. Completing the memory without the bonus objective results in only 50% Synchronization. If you have achieved 100% Synchronization in all the memories from the required sequences, you will sometimes unlock a cheat code.
Borgia towers are large towers set up by the Borgia in Rome, used to spread their influence throughout the city. Ezio Auditore da Firenze has to kill each tower's Captain, and burn the towers down. To escape the collapsing structure, he can perform a Leap of Faith, in the same manner as with view points. Before destroying each tower, Ezio has to assassinate its Borgia Captain, as they control the towers. There are twelve towers in total so far. Each Captain can act differently when they spot him; wherein some might flee, while others choose to fight. If Ezio lets the Borgia Captain escape, he will have to wait a full in-game day for the Captain to re-group with his guards to reattempt killing him. With each tower blown up, the Borgias' influence decreases in that particular district, which also provides its populace the opportunity to start shops and allows Ezio to recruit one more assassin into the order. Crime will decrease, as bandits will start to leave and the number of guards in that area will decrease as well. The map on the pause menu identifies the towers with a small castle icon, unlike the view points, which are marked with an eagle. To enter a Borgia Tower, you will sometimes need to find and access it using a secret entrance.

When you have destroyed a Borgia Tower, it will function as an Assassins Tower, which has the same use as an Assassins Pigeon Cage
I fixed that problem with the FM, now it changes randomly. --<span style="font-family:Agency"><font color="#000080"></font><font color="#000080">T</font><font color="#0b0076">H</font><font color="#15006c">I</font><font color="#200062">E</font><font color="#2b0059">F</font> </span> 07:23, November 13, 2010 (UTC)
Reward
For my reward I decline the title of Wiki Visionary and humbly accept the title of Wiki Seer, which also comes with double the prize money. Beyond that, just pass on the good word, rig a vote or two in my favor, topple a few world governments and we shall call it even ;) Oh and let people know that who made it :)

I dropped the opacity to 60% but I'll drop it further to 40%. Shift reload to see the changes. I left both the 60% and 80% in the css, just uncomment whatever you need. Cheers mate! -- 09:14, November 13, 2010 (UTC)
Walkthroughs
Do you post walkthroughs on the site? We have a full gameplay walkthrough of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on our Youtube channel (Found Here ). Just thought it would help.
sry to bother you
hi, i'm Jérôme Reille

i've created and am currently maintaining the italian Wars page, but i have a tiny problem.

i was wondreing if you could point me in the right direction.

Question 1

I'm using as a browser Flock (based on firefox, tweaked for facebook and other social communities)

i have one quirk i cannot seem to get arround:

when i log into the wikia.com using my facebook connect everything *is fine*

but when I then go edit the page, i am doing so as anonymous... my cookies are good, i've checked that...

any idea why this is happening? .. ^^

Question 2

new to the wikia community i was wondering if there is a way to leave comments on a page for people who would want to edit it, but not people who just want to read it.

i have put at botom of page a note saying "under construction", but was wondering if that could appear only to people who would want to edit it... ?

i'm getting acb tomorrow, can't wait. have fun.
:Hey, Jerome. With the first question, I can't help, cause I don't use that nor I'm a geek or nerdy guy. Second: the whole purpose of the wiki is to read AND write, so it is expected your users edit it without further input for you. Keep in mind that if your wiki s new and/or your subject is not very popular, yoy may have a slow start. Also, more important than the content of a wiki, are the community of it. Keep in mind that by growing the numbers and caring about your users, you will have a more solid and stable site. More users, more articles. More articles, more visibility, which leads to more users. It's basic knowledge. Without it, no wiki is anything. Send word if you need more assitance. -- D. Cello 03:55, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
