The Abstergo laboratory is a special laboratory built by Abstergo Industries specifically for their Animus project. The Animus device itself is located in a the center of the laboratory, with Warren Vidic's desk located nearby, overlooking the Animus machine. Besides the Animus chamber, this laboratory consists of other rooms and devices such as conference room, bedroom, bathroom, and Animus terminal. After Memory Block Seven is completed, Cryptic Messages can be seen throughout it in Eagle Vision.

The landscape outside the laboratory is very bright, however, the lab is clearly in an urban environment, surrounded by skyscrapers. The start of Assassin's Creed II proves that the laboratory is on the 4th floor.

The building appears to be based somewhere in Italy. This is evidenced by Italian words appearing at both the warehouse hideout and in the basement car park, where an Italian sign states the clearance height for cars and a notice marking Vidic's parking spot.

Also, the laboratory is located in the "Research Wing" of the building, as confirmed by one of the guards.

Abstergo Offices
During the escape scene in Assassin's Creed II, Lucy and Desmond exit the laboratory and make a path towards the underground parking lot. Similarly to the lab, the rest of the Abstergo building is decorated in a modern-industrial style with overhead pipes and ventilation clearly visible, but minimalist detail elsewhere. There are lots of servers and computers found, as seen in the laboratory. Several small windows give a glimpse into the world outside the office, showing a terrace garden which surrounds a large part of the building.

As the two Assassins take an elevator down to another floor, the player must traverse through a floor of cubicles. These cubicles are each sealed with glass doors, although nobody is working in them. This may indicate that employees have been evacuated from the area once Abstergo learned that Lucy and Desmond were escaping. Although, September 8th, 2012, the date Assassin's Creed II begins, does fall on a Saturday. Furthermore, the only workers that the player meets are security guards. The rows of cubicles also contain several Animus machines (in AC II it was unknown what the plural of the Animus is, as Desmond asks Lucy if the term is "Animuses" or "Animi"; it was later confirmed by Ubisoft to be Animi). A sign on the wall mentions that there are 16 in total on that floor (3rd floor).
You too must learn to blend like us: seen, but unseen.

The courtesans are one of the three factions of the Assassin's Creed series helping the main character, Ezio; the other two being the thieves and the mercenaries. Florentine courtesans are led by Paola, Venetian courtesans are led by Teodora Contanto, and Roman courtesans are led by Claudia Auditore.

Courtesans can work in many ways. All four can seduce a group of nearby guards, allowing Ezio to slip past, or they can hide Ezio by walking with him in a diamond formation (similar to how Altaïr blended with Scholars). Should Ezio encounter a group of guards while walking with the Courtesans, two of them will distract the guards, while the other two stay with Ezio in order to maintain the blend and help keep Ezio anonymous. This behavior is very helpful in assassination missions where the target walks among civilians.

Courtesans cannot perform any sort of free-running, and will go down very quickly in a fight. Therefore they should be avoided when looking for assistance in combat.

Known courtesans
Florence
*Paola

Venice
*Teodora Contanto
*Lucia - a courtesan who worked in La Rosa Della Virtu, she was attacked and robbed just outside.

Rome
*Madonna Solari
*Fiora Cavazza
*Lucia - a Courtesan who worked in the Rosa in Fiore. She was kidnapped by the slave traders, but they sent her back to alert the other girls of the ransom for Solari. It is presumable that she remained in the Rosa in Fiore after this incident, and worked under Maria and Claudia.
*Mina - a victim of the Templar Malfatto, who was a rogue doctor that preyed on prostitutes. Ezio Auditore finds her being mourned by her friend in a back alley of Rome.
*Guilietta - an ex-courtesan of the Rosa in Fiore. One of her fellow courtesans reported her suspicions about Guilietta and a client of hers to Ezio. After some investigation, the suspicions were proven that Guilietta had been selling Courtesans Guild secrets about the Assassins to their enemies. Ezio followed her to her client and killed him before her eyes. She tried to deny knowing that the man was a traitor, but Ezio sent her away and told her she was no longer welcome at the Rosa in Fiore brothel.

Achievement
The achievement/trophy, "Red Light Addict," can be gained by spending 5000 florins on them. One group of courtesans costs 150 florins, which means approximately 34 groups have to be hired to get the achievement.

Trivia
*A glitch can be found while running around the outside of Forlì. One of the hired Courtesans becomes stuck, separated from the rest of the group, and left behind, but does not officially leave the group as when distracting guards. The remaining three courtesans will not activate any blending effects when surrounding Ezio until he approaches the lost courtesan's perimeter and again enters the 'middle' of the group.
*Should one of the courtesans in a group fall into the water, the remaining three will continue to activate the blending effect without her, indicating that the death of one courtesan is similar to when two leave the group to distract passing guards.
*Courtesans cannot be killed or grabbed by Ezio. However, you can still hurt them with your weapons.
*The appearance of Courtesans has five randomly generated options: hair, face, dress color, necklace, and sleeves.
*In Monteriggioni, after renovating the Brothel, random Courtesans appear to walk in the streets. However, you are unable to hire them.
*Attracting attention after distracting guards with a group of Courtesans will cause the guards to attack the group and kill them.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, when Ezio reaches Level 5 in the Courtesans guild challenges, the courtesans are able to kill guards by blowing a presumably poisonous substance into their faces.
*If a civilian you stole from prepares to have a fist fight with Ezio, the courtesans you have hired will sometimes go and fight him instead, knocking him out with only two punches (Brotherhood only).
*In the mission Fitting In,it is the only time you can beat up,pickpocket and grab courtesans.
*During the sequence Carnevale courtesans appear walking in the streets wearing masks.
The Thieves are one of the three factions of Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood helping the main character Ezio (the other two being the Courtesans and the Mercenaries).

Led by Antonio, their main hideout is located in the commercial district of Venice. The guild is more of an organization similar to the Mafia, rather than just a bunch of robbers. They don't target innocent citizens, and instead defy the local, corrupted nobility. In Florence and Rome, the thieves are led by La Volpe.

Use
The thieves can help Ezio by distracting the guards, and luring them away; however, this ability can be only used once for a single group of thieves, and once you use it, they are no longer in your service. On rooftops, the lure command is replaced with the fight command, directing the thieves to fight the guards instead of stealing from them. Otherwise, at any time, engaging in a fight while a group of thieves is following you will automatically prompt them to assist you. You can also hire a second group to help at this point, though only one group will follow you around when the fight is over.

Be careful when free running, however, for the thieves can easily fall into water and die (as they can't swim). Thus, if you have thieves following you, avoid jumping across canals from the roof, particularly in Venice. Also remember that thieves can be just as easily killed by falling while performing normal acrobatics (sometimes they can be killed by other thieves if they are in the way).

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, hired thieves act much as they did in the previous game, however they will also now pickpocket money for Ezio as they follow him through the streets of Rome. In order to aid Ezio, La Volpe based the local thieves guild in an inn called La Volpe Addormentata ("The Sleeping Fox"). The inn acted as both a hideout for the thieves, as well as a place where civilians and guards could gamble, though the thieves made sure that they would never win. At the back of the bar lay La Volpe's office, which contained a board where he listed the top five best thieves based on their actions. Ezio later decided to join this competition, and was thus given the Thief Guild Challenges. There Ezio can talk with La Volpe to obtain several Thief Missions across Rome. Doing these missions will help the thieves to beat their rivals, the Cento Occhi.

Equipment
Thieves are lightly armed, carrying only a short blade, and wearing very light armor, though this allows them to follow Ezio in many of his acrobatic moves they only use swords only at some quest levels through the games. They will not, however, follow him up very high towers (such as view points) or make far leaps, if they are able to find another route, no matter how lengthy it may be. They are surprisingly effective in combat, easily dodging or blocking enemy blows, and returning them. A group of four thieves can take on eight Medici Guardsmen and suffer very little damage. Their only vulnerability in combat are the Brutes and Seekers.
