86.30.95.78: /* Synchronization in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood */

assassify
Synchronization is the Assassin's Creed series' equivalent of a health meter. Since the events of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze experienced by Desmond Miles in the Animus have already taken place in the past, Synchronization is a measure of how synchronized, or close to, Desmond's actions in the Animus are with the actual events in the past. If all Synchronization is lost, the simulation restarts from an earlier point.

Synchronization itself can be taken as how accurate Desmond's actions are compared to the original memories. The loss of Synchronization would therefore presumably be a sign that Desmond's (or more accurately, the player's) actions are not accurate to the past. Losing synch by killing civilians and falling from heights would mean that Altaïr or Ezio would not have performed those actions. Furthermore, additional memories, such as rescuing civilians and collecting Flags for Altaïr, and opening Chests and collecting Feathers for Ezio, would mean that Altaïr and Ezio actually performed these actions. That they are optional is an indication that they aren't essential to the recreation of the events in the Animus.

The Synch meter
[[File:Synchronization Bar 2.png|thumb|300px|This meter from the first game has nine bars, its capacity.
Note the DNA effect, symbolizing that the meter is full.]]

Synchronization is measured by a bar in the top left corner of the HUD. It displays Desmond's current level of synchronization with his ancestor.

The Synch meter can be turned off in the Options menu, as well as all other HUD elements.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed
If Synchronization is critically low, the screen will begin to flash blue and red to warn the player as the current memory begins to become unstable. If all Synchronization is lost the HUD will disappear. If one more decreasing action is taken the simulation will restart from an earlier point.

Synchronization can be lost for several reasons:
*Killing a civilian, breaking the First Tenet of the Creed.
*Taking damage in battle.
*Drowning, resulting in immediate desynchronization (however this was revealed to be a bug, thanks to an email from Rebecca to Lucy in Assassin's Creed II stating she had fixed said bug).
*Falling from a great height. The higher the height, the more synchronization will be lost.

At the beginning of Assassin's Creed, Desmond's very first use of the Animus causes almost immediate loss of Synchronization, because his subconscious couldn't handle the stress and trauma of the memory he was in.

Any Synchronization lost will recover over time.

Achievement
On the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed, you can unlock the Absolute Symbiosis achievement by obtaining all twenty bars of Synchronization.

Synch Meter Capacity
The capacity of the Synchronization meter is not static. It varies from 4 to 20. Synchronization capacity is determined by two components- base Synchronization (up to 13) and additional Synchronization (up to 7).

Base Synchronization
Altaïr's Base Synchronization is determined by his rank in the Assassins' Order. At the beginning of the game when he is a Master Assassin, his base Synchronization is 13. Once he is demoted to Novice, it falls to 4.

A full table:

width="50"| Rank
2
5
3
6
10
13

Additional Synchronization
Additional Synchronization is Synchronization that the player earns by completing additional memories, such as saving citizens and Synchronizing on View Points. Once the player completes fifteen of these additional memories, the words "DNA Synchronization Augmented" will be displayed on the screen, and there will be another bar available on the Synch meter.

Up to seven bars of additional Synchronization can be obtained.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed II
The Synchronization bar in the first Assassin's Creed game has been replaced by a health bar, while synchronization itself has become a status that is increased by completing missions, recovering objects (Codex pages, Feathers, statues, etc.), and unlocking the Armor of Altaïr.

Maximum health, in turn, is increased by equipping armor and deciphering Codex Pages. Lost health can be restored by visiting a Doctor or by using medicine. Maximum health can be achieved whilst wearing Altaïr's Armor or a full Missaglias set, and by having all 30 Codex Pages deciphered.

Different from Assassin's Creed is that taking damage doesn't always take one bar away. Depending of the power of the attack, some squares may only partially disappear, and will recover quick. A completely empty square however, has to be healed or recovers much slower.

Desynchronization can still happen due to death, killing 3 or more civilians, staying in an unavailable area for too long, failing mission objectives, and more. When this happens, all health is recovered, and the player is restored to the last checkpoint if they were in a mission at the time of desynchronization, or on the ground closest to where they died if they are not. It's worth noting that when the player has to follow four Templars (including Rodrigo Borgia) through Venice and eavesdrop on their meeting, killing them early will result in desynchronization, even though the death of Rodrigo Borgia would send the Templar Order into chaos. This is because Ezio did not choose to kill them at that point.

Synchronization in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Synchronization has taken an extra step in Brotherhood, as you can now complete bonus objectives in certain memories to get 100% Memory Synchronization.

The most common conditions for 100% are either time-related, weapon-specific, or require you to remain undetected, though other unique conditions exist for specific memories. Failing to complete the optional condition results in a 50% completion message at the end of the memory.

Completing any of the first seven main memory sequences to 100% synch will unlock a cheat that you can then use while replaying memories. The number of Cristina Memories unlocked depends on the amount of synchronization the player has achieved.
:For unintentional glitches, see Bugs.

During some parts of Assassin's Creed, the player will experience intentional glitches, placed there by the developers. These glitches signify opportunities for the player to change the camera view, among other purposes.

Cutscenes
During cutscenes, the representations of nucleotides (DNA) will occasionally flash across the screen. Whenever this occurs, the player can press any button, and the camera view will shift from behind Altaïr to a position looking directly at the subjects of the cutscene. Continuously clicking a button during the scene will allow the player to cycle through all the available camera views.

The glitches that occur during the cutscenes in which Altaïr speaks to dying assassination targets are exceptional cases, wherein pressing any button will change the conditions of the scene, and not simply the camera angle. If the player does not press a button, the dying target speaks while being held in Altaïr's hands; whereas if the player does, the camera focuses only on the target, he appearing uninjured and standing on his own as he speaks.

Chase scenes
In addition, when Altaïr is being chased by guards, similar glitches may occur. If the player presses a certain button (L2 on PS3, or RB on Xbox 360, Left Shit on the PC if the key has not been remapped) while these glitches occur, the camera moves into a chase position. The camera will move back behind the pursuing guards, allowing the player to view both Altaïr and the guards pursuing him, and in essence viewing the entire "chase."

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery
In some areas in Assassin's Creed II: Discovery Glitches may flash across the screen. Shaking the iPod in these will make an extra area appear, in which bonus artwork can be found.

Blending is the slowest and stealthiest method of movement in the Assassin's Creed universe that every Assassin has to learn.

Assassin's Creed
When blending, Altaïr moves very slowly, so as not to arouse suspicion. If he is on foot, he will lower his head, fold his hands, and imitate a scholar. Altaïr can even blend into a group of Scholars for extra security, however if he does so, he is bound to follow wherever the group walks until he exits the blend. If he is on a horse, he will bow his head and slow the horse to a walk. When guards are Informed (alert with drawn swords), blending is the best way of avoiding attention.

Usage
To blend, while in low profile, hold the Feet button ( on PS3, A on Xbox 360, or the Space Bar on the PC's default layout). Informed guards are much less likely to notice you if you blend.

When not to blend
Blending is not always effective, such as when:
*Approaching a Templar (they always recognize Altaïr very quickly).
*Approaching a stationary guard or guards, such as those in front of city gates. They will always push you back, even if you blend. If you join a group of scholars, however, they will always let you pass through.
*Being chased by guards. Blending alone does not act as a hiding spot. You can, however, use a group of scholars as you would any other hiding spot.
*Standing on a rooftop. Archers will remind you that it's socially unacceptable to be up there, even if you Blend.
*Approaching an archer in the Kingdom. Kingdom archers attentively defend the area around their post, including the ground.

Scholars
Scholars

Altaïr can unlock scholars (as well as vigilantes) by completing Save Citizen side missions. Although for scholars to be unlocked, the potential-victim has to be male since saved females produce vigilantes instead. Scholars patrol the 3 cities in groups of four, moving in a diamond formation. If Altaïr approaches an unaware group and blends, he will lower his head, join the group, and walk with them automatically. He may leave at any time by pressing the Feet button again.

When blending in a group of scholars, Altaïr is even better concealed than when he blends normally. If Altaïr is being chased by guards and he breaks their line of sight, he may use scholars as he would any hiding spot. By approaching them, Blending, and joining the group, he is in effect entering a moving hiding spot.

In addition, guards will always step aside to allow a group of scholars through, even in situations where they would not do the same if it were just Altaïr blending. This can prove very useful for getting into restricted areas.

Assassin's Creed II
thumb|300px|right|Paola teaching Ezio how to blend.
In Assassin's Creed II, Paola teaches Ezio how to blend in with the crowd. As an updated version of blending with scholars, you can now hide within any group of civilians, as long as there are at least 4 of them (with the exception of hired courtesans, who only require a minimum of 2). To blend into the crowd, simply walk into the middle of their group and follow them.

When Ezio is blending he seems to become duller and lose a lot of color, to indicate that he is hiding. A shadow of gray under the group that he is currently blending with indicates the boundary in which he must stay, so as to remain unseen.

The green circle around the map indicates that Ezio is hidden. Leaving the group will allow Ezio to be hidden for just a little longer untill he can be seen again. Please note that pressing the button for High Profile will cause the blend to be removed, even when still in the group.

Usage
In this game, there is no button meant for blend. Instead, you automatically blend when you walk into a group of people (courtesans, priests, common folk etc.) or when moving with the crowd. You can also steal money by hold the Feet button ( on PS3, A on Xbox 360 or the Space Bar on the PC's default layout) while in Low Profile.

Courtesans
Courtesans

After Paola teaches Ezio how to blend and steal, you will be able to hire some Courtesans to help you blend for the cost of 150 florins. They act very similar to the scholars in terms of usage; however, inversely, they will follow your movements instead of you following theirs. This is the fastest way of blending, at the cost of some florins. However, they can be easily lost if there are guards nearby, as they do not fare well in combat.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Blending returns in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood with nearly the same function as in Assassin's Creed II. Available in both single and multiplayer, the only change to the mechanic is that the player is no longer required to manually follow the crowd, and may simply allow the civilians to lead their character, much as scholars did in Assassin's Creed.

Trivia
*A bug in Assassin's Creed II gives the player a never-ending blend ability. If walking onto a non-standable surface while blending, the player will stay in blend-mode until Ezio stands up. For info and a tutorial on this, visit folowing links: Superblending and Hyperblending.
*It's possible to blend with only one person. If you manage to find one of the three factions (Courtesans, Mercenaries, or Thieves) near water or on a roof, push all of them off but leave one. Move closer to the remaining one and you will blend.
Vigilantes are groups of men that will aid you if you find yourself being chased through a city.

If you are being pursued, and you enter into an area with vigilantes in it, they will step in and impede the way of the guards who are trying to chase you, much like the lines of guards who block your way when you are attempting to flee. Enemies can also be easily killed while in a Vigilante's grasp.

Assassin's Creed
You can unlock vigilantes throughout cities in the game by saving female citizens who are in trouble with the guards.

Vigilantes will grab guards, knock them over, rough them up a bit and do whatever it takes to get them off your back, while you run and make a clean getaway. Alternatively, you can use them to stop the guards from defending themselves, granting you a quick and easy kill. If a large number of guards are chasing you, you can use them to block a few of the men whilst you deal with the rest.

If you walk into a group of them, they will let you in and watch you for a couple seconds, saying things like "Thank you for saving my daughter" or "I am forever in your debt for saving her." These lines make it seem like the Vigilantes are those who are related to the citizens Altair has saved.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, all the old functionalities of Vigilantes return. Guards will attack the vigilantes even if they're pursuing you, and the vigilantes will continue just grabbing and pulling at them. They will often be seen near groups of stationary guards, taunting them and yelling at them, though the guards will not pay them any attention. If all guards are killed with the assistance of vigilantes, they will disassemble and walk off. They appear with the removal of a nearby Borgia Tower.

Civilians are the common people in the Assassin's Creed series, found abundantly throughout the game worlds.

Assassin's Creed
Peasants are the general denizens of the cities (and the Kingdom) of the Holy Land in Assassin's Creed. Generally, they will do nothing to hurt Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad although there does exist some special variants of peasants that might.

Peasants are programmed to react realistically to Altaïr's actions: watching closely when he enters a fight, making comments as he free runs throughout the city, gasping when he buries any of his blades into an enemy and fleeing when the enemy dies. Peasants can also act as both a shield and a hindrance for Altaïr as he flees. If he runs into enough of them while sprinting, he will lose his balance and fall to the ground, greatly offending those he ran into. However, if he is shoving his way through a crowd, he may keep up his momentum.

If Altaïr murders a peasant, he suffers a large desynchronization due to his disregard for the first tenet of the Creed, but when you have completed the game, he will no longer desynchronize for killing them.

Civilian Types
Some civilians are different from the rest. Some may assist, be a hindrance, or an outright danger.

Beggars
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

In the three cities of Assassin's Creed, a desperate female beggar may pester Altaïr for money, claiming her family is "sick and dying" and "have nothing". They will harass Altaïr for several seconds, before giving up. If you attempt to climb a building to escape them, they will throw a rock at you. If you climb up a ladder however, they will simply walk away without throwing rocks. If you draw any of your weapons, they will run away screaming. In addition, you may throw them in another direction to frighten them. Doing so enough, will get you an Achievement. Another method is to simply punch them once, and send them running. Doing this is much the same as throwing them, but will not (usually) cause the guards to intervene. There is also no Achievement for this method.

Either way, you'll take a very minor hit of desyncronization, but considering the annoyance beggars cause, it might be worth it. Frightening them will cause them to be scared of you for quite some time.

In Assassin's Creed II, beggars will appear in some cities, but will not chase or harass Ezio for money, only leaning against a wall or standing up when Ezio is near them. If you throw money at them, they will pick it all up, thank you, and then walk away. They instead reappear in function as minstrels, who act similarly to the beggars in the first game, except that they do not demand money, but instead run in front of Ezio singing and playing chords on their instruments.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood features the calmer beggars of Assassin's Creed II, as well as the return of the harassing beggars from the original game. Both versions of beggars can be gotten rid of by throwing money at them. This time around, the harassing beggars are usually found in groups of three, all of which are women.

Carriers
Found in: Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

In the three cities of Assassin’s Creed, some peasants may be found walking around carrying something heavy. If you bump into them, they will drop the item and cause a big commotion. To pass by carriers without causing a commotion, they should be gently pushed aside while in Low Profile. The carriers come in two varieties: jar carriers and box carriers. Jar carriers are women carrying around a large jar on their head and box carriers are men holding a box close to their chest.

In Assassin’s Creed II, only box carriers appear. They are seen carrying boxes from shop to shop. If you bump into one, they will cause a great deal of commotion, and guards will often come and push you around. Ezio becomes one in the penultimate memory block (not including the DLCs), when he is carrying a box. He cannot use the “gentle push”, and knocking over another carrier will cause nearby guards to push Ezio, making him drop the box.

It is quite possible for a box-carrier to walk into the back of Ezio who is walking. This results in them dropping the box but still blaming Ezio. Also galloping near one causes him to drop his box, even if his definition of “near” seems to span a circular area with 20 meter diameter around him.

In Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, box carriers once again are the only type of carrier in the game.

Citizens in distress
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

In Assassin's Creed, occasionally, Altaïr can find citizens that need saving within the three cities. They are often being harassed by guards for crimes they did not commit. Altaïr can kill the guards, and in doing so, unlock a group of either Scholars or Vigilantes. Women that are saved unlock a group of Vigilantes, and if you rescue a man, they will unlock a group of Scholars.

In Bloodlines, Citizens are the similar to their original counterparts, but will reward Altaïr with coins instead of unlocking a specific group.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, citizens that are being harassed by Borgia guards can be saved by Ezio. Once saved, they will give their lives to join Ezio's cause and become an Assassin apprentice.

Scholars
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines

Scholars

Scholars are holy men who walk slowly and silently through the three cities. Having robes similar enough to a Scholar's, Altaïr can blend in with a group of them to escape guards.

In Bloodlines, Scholars do not come in groups and appear even when you have not saved any citizen. Altaïr cannot blend with them.

In Assassin's Creed II, instead of Scholars, there are Monks. Their importance is severely diminished as Ezio can blend in with any crowd, and that they aren't very good pickpocketing targets. Instead, their closest counterpart functionally would be Courtesans, which have the added advantage of moving with Ezio instead of the other way around.

Thugs
Found in: Assassin's Creed
Thugs

Thugs or Courageous Citizens are burly denizens of the three cities. They are the only peasants that will fight you, but only in a fistfight; drawing a weapon will cause them to flee. You can pickpocket Thugs for 5 throwing knives, or defeat them in a fistfight for one. Draw a weapon and kill them, however, and you will get zero knives, as well as desynchronization. Strategy-wise it is better to flee should you start a fistfight with them, as the reward for beating them is hardly worth the effort, as opposed to running away and trying again somewhere else. Thugs will not follow you to the roofs should you choose to escape.

Thugs appear in Masyaf as well, but they have a much different appearance than the other 3 cities. In Masyaf they are far less burly, and take the appearance of Assassin Informants but with darker robes. They act in the exact same way though.

While they do not appear in Assassin's Creed II or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it is worth noting that some civilians will fight you if you are caught pickpocketing. Unlike in Assassin's Creed, however, fist fighting civilians are very easy to defeat. In addition to the fact that Ezio is more proficient in unarmed combat than Altaïr is, fistfighting civilians will back down and flee after the first hit, even if they block it. It should also be noted that in both the Beat Up and Mail Delivery missions in Forlì, gangs of Civilians will engage Ezio in much the same way as the Thugs do in Assassins Creed, and unlike the forementioned civilians, they will require a lot more hits to defeat.

Trouble Makers
Found in: Assassin's Creed

In the three cities, one may find madmen and drunkards. They usually are found babbling, walking through back alleys, and struggling with chronic flatulence. If you get close, they will shove you violently and generally cause a great disturbance. Because Trouble Makers create a commotion when they push you, it can cause you to become Exposed. This can sometimes cause you to fail a side mission, or break your cover as you attempt an assassination. They can also push you into water, instantly killing you.

Just like with beggars, it's suggested that you punch or shove them when you see them, as this will, oddly enough, not arouse suspicion with the guards and is a surefire way to get them off your back. You'll take a hit of synchronization (one unit's worth) but this is a small price to pay to deal with them. However, make sure that there are no Thugs nearby as this will start a fistfight with them.

In Assassin's Creed II, drunkards resemble the ones in the original game in terms of appearance, however, they do not act aggressively.

Vigilantes
Found in: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Vigilantes

In Assassin's Creed, Vigilantes are groups of brave, tough men unlocked after saving female citizens. If Altaïr runs past a group of Vigilantes while being chased by guards, the Vigilantes will grab the guards, delaying them greatly. Altaïr can then escape, or take the opportunity to assassinate the guards as they are held back. They are particularly helpful in assassination missions for targets who flee, such as Abu'l Nuqoud.

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the vigilantes make a return, acting exactly like vigilantes from Assassin's Creed.

Minstrels
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

In any of the cities in Assassin's Creed II, as well as Rome in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, minstrels will follow Ezio on the streets, playing a song on their lute and singing about Ezio. For better or for worse, they are the beggars of Assassin's Creed II. However, they are slightly less annoying than their Assassin's Creed counterparts. For starters, they are not as desperate or whiny as the beggars of Assassin's Creed, nor will they throw rocks at him if he tries to escape. Secondly, there is a much easier and socially acceptable method to get rid of them than in the previous game: appeasing them by throwing money at them. Just like in the previous game, you can punch them or throw them to cause them to run. Unlike in the previous game, doing these sort of rash actions against them (drawing weapons, punching, etc.) does actually carry a real consequence, as it will cause a 25% increase in Notoriety.

Another method for dealing with them is to knock them over when holding the high profile button, immediately stopping them from singing and blocking your way. Although if done near guards, this may cause a slight amount of Notoriety.

Stealing from a minstrel causes him to drop his instrument.

They are also in Assassins Creed Brotherhood, but they wear different colored clothes, but they will still sing the same songs as in Assassins Creed 2.

Pickpockets
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

: Main article: Pickpockets

Pickpockets, as the name suggests, are thieves that will attempt to steal the player's money. If the pickpocket is successful in stealing the money, or if Ezio is in the pickpocket's sight, he will away by use of free-running. Should the player be pickpocketed, the stolen money can be regained by chasing, and tackling the pickpocket. In addition to the player's money, an extra 500 florins can be gained by tackling. Also in Brotherhood, pickpockets carry one trade item that can be used for the Shop Quests. The extra money can be gained even if the player didn't have any money stolen. Pickpockets are identified with a money pouch icon on the mini-map, as well as a silver arrow which appears above them. Pickpockets are also subject to the same laws as Ezio. If one is on the rooftops, he may be shot at by an Archer, or Arqubesuir. If one is killed, the dead body can be looted. Killing one has not penalties for desynchronization, but can cause an increase in notoriety.

Borgia Messengers
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Borgia Messengers

Borgia Messengers behave almost exactly like pickpockets, but with some minor differences. Firstly, they won't attempt to steal from the player. Second they don't have any icon on the radar, and the only way to identify them is by a silver chevron which appears above their head. Thirdly, you can steal a sum of 1503 florins from them. And lastly, killing one will result in a 50% notoriety increase in AC2, or a 100% increase in Brotherhood. If a Borgia messenger is located on the rooftops by guards, he will be attacked. Same as with pickpockets, the dead bodies can be looted.

Courtesans
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Courtesans

Courtesans are very good at distracting guards, also they can get into places covered with guards, although guards will steal 2 courtesans from you when they walk past them, a new upgrade of the courtesans in Brotherhood is that they can poison guards, hire courtesans, then walk past guards and get them to steal 2, then the courtesan will stand in front of the guard and blow a powder (The Poison) into the guards face. Then they will walk away, the guard will then do the same as any other guard that gets poisoned by Ezio with the poison blade.

Also when you enter a fight with guards while with courtesans, they (in Brotherhood) will flee instead of fight.

Mercenaries
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Mercenaries

Mercenaries are very skilled fighters, you can use them to attack and kill guards, the only down side of Mercenaries is that they cant scale rooftops with Ezio unless there is a ladder to climb, Mercenaries always carry heavy weapons i.e Axes or Claymores meaning they can't sprint. Also in Brotherhood they are useful for getting rid of Minstrels, as when they sing to you, a Mercenary will run over and push him away and chase him around the city telling him to keep away from Ezio, this however doesnt last as the next time the Minstrel appears he will continue to sing to Ezio.

Thieves
Found in: Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Thieves

Thieves are a good way to lure away guards from targets to assassinate, or good ways to be rid of Guard Posts, Lock onto a Guard and press the Y Button (Xbox 360) or Triangle (Playstation 3.) In Brotherhood, Thieves are extra handy for receiving Florins without arrousing Notoriety or a Fight as they will pickpocket any civilians they pass and you will receive the cash, although Thieves can Free - Run with Ezio, they are not good in a full group as if they are on a small platform or rooftop they are most likely going to fall, either from lack of space, from an archer, crossbow men or rifle men shooting at them, other thieves gentle pushing them causing to fall or losing grip while holding onto the edge of a roof.
Apprentices

Potential Assassin Apprentices were civilians under the influence of the Borgia, who were often bullied and beaten up by the Guards for fun. When saved by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the civilians seek to eliminate the Borgia influence in Rome and join the Assassin Order as Ezio's personal team of assassins.
Trivia
*Assassin's Creed contains files titled "SnakeCharmer", but no snake charmer exists in the game. This hints that Ubisoft may have originally intended the game to feature snake charmers.
*The NPCs of the civilians in Damascus, Jerusalem, and Masyaf are similar.
*When using eagle vision in Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II, civilians are the only ones that don't glow any color. They are simply grey, because they are not an ally or an enemy.
*In Assassin's Creed II, the player can distinguish between different civilian attributes and types. For instance, a rich civilian will wear more lively and colorful clothes, capes and shoes, all of a very fancy nature. A richer civilian can be pickpocketed for more Florins.
*People celebrating Carnivale are rich civilians, especially the ones that dance.
*The minstrel's florin pouch only contains 10 florins at most.
*Interestingly enough, you see no children walking in the streets, not even with an adult. The only children found are Ezio's younger brother, Petruccio, Caterina Sforza's children, Bianca and Ottaviano and the lost child in Brotherhood whose mother was captured by Silvestro Sabbatini. Also a child appears when Ezio and Mario are trotting down the streets in Monteriggioni.
*In Assassin's Creed II, women will often find anything Ezio does to be attractive, commenting how strong, fast, or brave he is throughout the game.
*Ezio can kill civilians without desynchronizing by using a gentle push or by punching them into water. However, throwing them in to water will cause desynchronization.
*You can also 'kill' civilians without desynchronisation by knocking them out first and then dragging their subdued body off a ledge higher than a single story. This will stop them form writhing about on the ground and turn them into a motionless corpse. This, in fact, works with any subdued person.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, as Ezio rebuilds Rome, civilians will start carrying parasols, sceptres and fans.
*In Assassin's Creed II, guards will not attack Ezio if he kills a civilian, however, they do in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the male potential Assassin Recruits always have the same clothes as Duccio de Luca, Claudia Auditore's former love interest in Assassin's Creed II.

*When using eagle vision with in Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II, civilians are the only ones that don't glow any color.

*Assassin's Creed contains files titled "SnakeCharmer", but no snake charmer exists in the game. This hints that Ubisoft may have originally intended the game to feature snake charmers.
*The NPCs of the civilians in Damascus, Jerusalem, and Masyaf are similar.
*When using eagle vision with in Assassins Creed and Assassin's Creed II, civilians are the only ones that don't glow any color.
Heralds are men who tell the populations of cities about recent news about laws, taxation, executions, etc. They came about due to the lack of an effective means of information transfer, and were precursors to today's communication system. In the Medieval Period, heralds were the servants of monarchs or other lords who would serve as messengers, conveying their master's messages and proclamations. In that capacity, they served as early diplomats.

In Assassin's Creed II, if Ezio commits crimes, the heralds will begin to tell people to beware of a mysterious man. Ezio can bribe these heralds with 500 florins to decrease his notoriety by 50%. Multiple heralds will appear on the map as long as Ezio's notoriety is not at 0%.

Heralds return in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood with the same function, however they will not appear unless notoriety is greater than 50%.

If you use Eagle Vision, heralds glow in blue if they are announcing normal events. If they are telling people about you (mostly lies and slander), then they are seen glowing red. They are also marked on the in-game map with a person icon.
*In the original Assassin's Creed, certain people may be found speaking in public, attempting to convince citizens to join the Crusader or Muslim armies. These men function much like heralds, although they are not referred to as such and are purely aesthetic, and annoying.
*The money that you bribe a herald with can be stolen back from him.
*Alternately, you may simply kill a herald in order to stop him from spreading word about you.
*Heralds are slightly harder to knock out than normal civilians in Assassin's Creed II.

86.30.95.78: /* Trivia */

Social Stealth, or how inconspicuous one can remain in public environments, is a key ability to master in order to become a successful Assassin.

Philosophy
A true Master Assassin knows that people cannot appropriately prepare themselves to an invisible strike. Remaining unexposed is the safest way to move about without catching the city guards' attention, arousing the crowd or alerting the target. Therefore, avoiding attention at all times is key to an Assassin's survival during an assassination mission.

Based on the second tenet of The Creed, remaining anonymous is a top priority at all times within the Assassin's Order; since investigations and assassinations have a much larger chance of success when no one knows from where comes the blunt. The key is to understand the people, and use them and other surrounding elements to one's advantage. One must allow the crowd to mask an approach, create distractions during assassinations, and reveal oneself only when absolutely necessary.

Whether performing silent executions or public assassinations, one must strike at the most appropriate moment, where one can not only hit, but also run or hold one's ground if necessary. Whether approaching someone from behind and putting a hidden blade between their ribs, or gently pushing past a crowd before bursting through the guards on a rampage charge at the target's head, social stealth mastery is indispensable. Though mastering the kill is a priority, mastering the approach should be one as well.

Assassin's Creed
In this game, the player's current social status is displayed on the HUD, either via the social status icon or witness indicator. The social status icon switches to the witness indicator under context - they are never displayed simultaneously. The witness indicator is only used when Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is in the presence of guards who are not in open conflict with him, and in all other cases, the social status icon is visible.

The social stealth system keeps track of how much attention is being paid to Altaïr and his actions. Citizens and guards will react differently, depending on how you treat or interact with them. While walking around the city and Kingdom, you can either force people out of the way and to the ground, or you can gently push past them. Though the first will attract a lot of attention and may prompt some citizens to shove you in retaliation, you are able to pass through the crowd much more quickly. Gently pushing or moving past people will attract no attention, but will take more time.

Any socially unacceptable behavior will also increase the attention that people pay you. Remaining anonymous, completely avoiding arousing suspicion and publicly expressing only socially acceptable behavior will allow for safe travel through city streets. Should Altaïr be chased by guards, the following places can be used as Hiding Spots:

*Groups of Scholars
*Benches (if occupied by two people)
*Piles of hay
*Rooftop gardens

Remaining anonymous will also refill your sync bar. If you attract too much attention, the omnipresent guards will recognize you as an Assassin, and try to kill you; ruining your anonymity, and forcing you to hide. An important and dependable (though slow paced) way to assure anonymity is to Blend. As Assassins are dressed similarly to religious scholars, a change in Altaïr's mannerisms to mimic one (folding the hands and assuming a prayerful stance) ensures slow, yet safe passage.

Social Status Icon
width="25%"|Icon
width="25%"|Status
width="50%"|Explanation

Anonymous
When Altaïr is not visible to any guards whatsoever, he is Anonymous. Represented by a white social status bar, this status is the ideal one to be in.

Exposed
If Altaïr draws too much guard attention to himself, he will become Exposed. The social status icon changes shape and color, flashing red. He can either kill all the guards (instantly returning to Anonymous status) or flee.

Unseen
If Altaïr chooses to flee, and is able to break the line of sight of pursuing guards, the social status icon will flash yellow and an audible beeping may be heard, signifying Unseen status. At this point, Altaïr should find a Hiding Spot and hide. If the player chooses to instead keep running, Altaïr may eventually outrun the pursuers and skip immediately back to Anonymous status.

Vanishing
If, while in Unseen status, Altaïr hides in a Hiding Spot out of sight of the guards, he will enter Vanishing status. After a few seconds, the guards will approach, but if they are unable to find Altaïr, they will give up the search.

Vanished
When the guards give up the chase, Altaïr has Vanished. While Vanished, he cannot be Exposed again. He will remain in this state for as long as he remains in the hiding spot. Once he leaves, he is again able to be Exposed.
<br clear="all" />

Witness Indicator
The witness indicator distinguishes between the different awareness levels of guards near Altaïr. Shaped differently from the social status icon, it has an eye in the center that glows either yellow or red, depending on soldiers' level of awareness.

*Unaware: A yellow witness indicator (though in the manual, it is said to be white) means that the guards near the player are either unaware or suspicious. An unaware soldier has his hands to his side, unaware of the danger posed by Altaïr.

*Suspicious: A suspicious soldier is slightly cautious of Altaïr, but not enough to attack or draw his sword. Instead, he rests his hand on his sword hilt, with the blade drawn slightly. Unaware or suspicious guards are not very likely to attack, unless provoked. The witness indicator is yellow both while soldiers are suspicious of Altaïr, or if they are unaware of him.

*Informed: A red witness indicator means that guards near the player are very suspicious, and ready to attack Altaïr. An informed soldier has his sword fully drawn, ready to fight. He is either very suspicious of Altaïr, or has seen a dead body on the ground. When in this state, guards are very easy to provoke. Escape either by blending, or killing the soldier. Note that all guard patrols in Middle Districts of cities are always Informed, as are those within the Kingdom.

Assassin's Creed II
The social stealth engine of Assassin's Creed II has been largely improved. You can now blend just by walking into any crowd. You can also bribe Heralds, and hire Courtesans or Thieves to distract targets. You can now pickpocket for money, and also run the risk of being pickpocketed. You can hide in carts of hay, flower petals and autumn leaves, as well as underwater. Doing this will not save you all the time, however, as Seekers can now search for you if you are hiding. Evading guards can be far easier, as you are able to leave a hiding spot anytime you wish, and you can easily evade guards just by running away.

Notoriety System
Notoriety is indicated on the frame of a notoriety icon, set next to the Synchronization Bar. If you are caught doing socially unacceptable deeds, your notoriety increases.

Decreasing
It can be reduced by:
#Ripping down Wanted Posters. Ripping off a poster will lower notoriety by 25%, unless you are seen by guards while doing so.
#Bribing Heralds. Once bribed, notoriety lowers by 50%.
#Assassinating Officials. Kill off the corrupt officials giving false witness, or selected key guards. Once the official is assassinated, notoriety will lower by 75%.

Increasing
Notoriety can increase due to any of the following actions.
#Killing or fighting civilians
#Becoming detected by guards in a restricted area
#Bumping into a stationary guard
#Pickpocketing
#Being caught looting bodies
#Knocking into Minstrels
#Hiding in a hiding spot and being found by Seekers
#Causing Guards to flee from fights
#Killing guards in open conflict
#High-Profile assassinations
#Killing borgia messengers or pickpockets

Notorious and Incognito
When the Notoriety meter is full, guards are on constant lookout and are always suspicious of Ezio. However when the notoriety meter is empty, guards will not pay attention to him unless he's in a restricted area or breaking the law.

Using especial capes will make Ezio permanently incognito. Those capes can be obtained either by completing main storyline missions or by finishing certain tasks.
Social Status Indicator
The new, additional system referred to as SSI is divided into two parts:

NPC Arrows
An arrow above a guard's head informs you whether or not you're at a risk of being detected.

*If you're Incognito, the guards will only notice you if you engage in illegal actions, such as killing, looting or pushing.
*If you are notorious or in a restricted area, guards will notice you on sight
*When the arrow turns yellow, it means that the guard has started investigating, and is alerted to his surroundings. The time needed to a guard recognize you depends from the type of guard watching you and also your actions while being watched.
*When the arrow turns red, the guard has recognized you.

Mini-Map Frame
The Social Status Indicator, instead of being located to the left of the Sync Bar, is now a frame that surrounds the Mini-Map on the bottom right. The Indicator's colors are the same from Assassin's Creed:

* White: You are Anonymous
* Red: You are in an Open Conflict with guards
* Yellow: You are in an Open Conflict with guards, however you have broken the line of sight
* Blue: You are Vanishing (ie. you are unseen, though the guards are still searching for you)
* Green: You are Hidden (ie. in a hiding spot)

Trivia
*In Assassin's Creed II: Discovery, there are additional hiding spots, such as in large barrels and boxes, behind certain walls, and the inside of doorways.
*Brutes will take a lot more time to recognize Ezio.
In the Assassin's Creed series, fists are the weakest form of fighting available to the player. Guards will not intervene with a fistfight, unless the player is attacking a guard. ==Assassin's Creed==
In Assassin's Creed, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's fists are also the only weapon he can use to interrogate a target without killing or causing them to run, even though the target is always assassinated once Altaïr has his information. When attempting to pickpocket a thug for throwing knives, if he notices Altaïr stealing from him, he may start a fist fight. You can choose to punch back, or you can draw one of your swords and he will immediately flee. The latter will attract the attention of nearby guards if you don't put it away immediately. As weak as fists are, they are your only weapon available as a novice. In Assassin's Creed II, the main character Ezio Auditore is more skilled in a fistfight than his predecessor Altaïr. He can perform combos, as well as being able to counter other fist fighters. He may also disarm those with weapons and use them against opponents, if he has learned the disarm skill. The disarm skill proves helpful when in open conflict with a Seeker, who wields a long weapon. They can be easily executed after they are caught weaponless.

The special attack while unarmed is to lean down and sweep some sand into the opponent's eyes, opening the weaker enemies to an instant kill. You can earn yourself the achievement/trophy, Messer Sandman, which is worth 10G or a Bronze trophy, by using the sand throwing move on 4 guards at once. Similarly, if your opponent has sufficiently low health, it is possible to perform an instant kill if you can get behind them.
Fists also become a more viable weapon when the Metal Cestus, a hard steel hand-guard that strengthens the attack of the fists, becomes available for purchase from Blacksmiths.

Players should be aware that picking up a body will cause the game to switch automatically back to Ezio's fists. Also, while carrying a body, guards will automatically attack you on sight regardless of Notoriety. Also, if you successfully disarm a guard and keep using his weapon after you kill him, the icon at the bottom left hand of the screen will be the fist icon.

Despite seemingly lethal actions, (like snapping or stomping on a hostile enemy's neck) the person will appear to be in a subdued state and will not be listed as a kill, enabling Ezio to "kill" civilians. However, during assassinations, these lethal actions do count as a kill to the assassination target. In addition, picking up someone in a subdued state and dropping them at least one story will stop their writhing around and they will be no different than a corpse. However, you will still not be penalised for doing it to a civilian.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the player still has the ability to disarm their opponents but they have a new ability to simply kill them in one swift move by using their fists. The player can walk up to a guard and press X or Square (or the PC equivalent) while the player is using their fists and Ezio will perform a move, he may kick the guard's legs or break their leg, and then pull his neck over his shoulder; therefore knocking him out. This and many other moves besides are always available throughout the game.

The Metal Cestus is now automatically acquired and equipped when the player buys the Climb Leap Glove (6100 florins) from Leonardo da Vinci.

Guards in ACB can also throw sand in your face (mostly guards with spears or other similer long wepons) but dosn't requare there hands to be free. Similerly Ezio can perform the move if he has his main weapon equiped and no more bullets in his hidden gun, or his small weapon equipped and no more throwing knives left.

Stats
Without the Metal Cestus upgrade, Ezio's fists have 1 damage, 5 speed, and 1 counter. The Metal Cestus boosts the damage stat to 3.
