Gaius Julius Caesar (100 BCE – 44 BCE), known as Julius Caesar, was a prominent general of the Roman Army and a notable politician of the Roman Republic. He played a key role in transforming the troubled Republic into the seemingly unstoppable Roman Empire.

Biography
Around 59 BCE, Caesar founded the city of Florentia, later known as Florence. He rose to prominence for his success in the Gallic Wars, in which he defeated the chieftain Vercingetorix and allowed the Roman Republic to annex Gaul.

In 49 BCE, he and his forces entered Rome in the midst of civil war, and Caesar took power as the dictator of the Republic, while secretly being supported by the Proto-Templar Order. The year after, he met the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and began an affair with her. He also adopted the lavish and self-centered lifestyle of Cleopatra.

Led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus, a group of forty senators calling themselves Liberatores, who were secretly members of the Assassin Brotherhood, began plotting against Caesar. Resolving to assassinate the dictator, the conspirators stabbed him twenty-three times on 15 March 44 BCE. Despite the death of Caesar, civil war continued for another thirteen years, as the armies of Brutus and Longinus clashed with those of Marcus Antonius and Octavian, Caesar's adopted son. Octavian eventually rose as the sole victor, naming himself Augustus and establishing the Roman Empire.
Alexander III of Macedon (356 BCE – 323 BCE), commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a King of Macedonia (ancient kingdom), and one of the most successful conquerors in history.

Biography
Alexander the Great's empire was backed by the Proto-Templars, who had entrusted him with a Staff of Eden, explaining why Alexander was able to become so successful and undefeated. In addition to the Staff, which reinforced his rule, Alexander wielded the Trident of Eden in battle.

After conquering the Achaemenid Empire, Alexander set out to take over the Punjab region of India. In the area between the Jelum River and Chenab River, he encountered a prince named King Porus in what would become known as the Battle of the Hydaspes.

Despite the Punjab force's numerical superiority, including 200 elephants, Alexander's troops flanked Porus' left side. The maneuver caused the elephants to panic, and Alexander's highly mobile cavalry proved too strong for the Punjab force.

Presumably impressed with Porus' military elegance and spirit, Alexander allowed him to retain his kingdom after the battle. Porus became an ally and subordinate ruler of Alexander, until sometime between 321 BCE and 315 BCE, when he was assassinated by Eudemus (general), one of Alexander's generals.

During his reign, Alexander had created one of the largest empires in the world, and created a new Hellenistic period civilization by leaving Greek colonists in his conquered lands. As he continued his conquest of Asia, the Assassins realized that Alexander's success could not be caused by military prowess alone, suspecting that he held the Staff.

Thus, in June 323 BCE, the Babylonian Assassin Iltani infiltrated the palace of Nebuchadnezzar II, where she poisoned Alexander and retrieved the Staff. On 13 June, Alexander died of the poisoning, and his empire soon began to crumble.

Iltani was a legendary Babylonian Proto-Assassin at the zenith of the Macedonia (ancient kingdom). Her fame owes to her assassination of Alexander the Great through poisoning she procured from an Achaemenid alchemist after having failed to reach him in Herat.

Biography
Hailing from the Babylonian Brotherhood of Assassins, Iltani lived in a time when the namesake of her Assassin branch had ceased to exist as a sovereign state due to its conquest by the Achaemenid Empire of Persia. During her lifetime, Persia, in turn, was conquered by the Macedonian Empire under Alexander the Great, and she watched as the ambitious, young king swept through her homeland with a Staff of Eden provided to him by the Proto-Templars.

Assassination of Alexander
Determined to put an end to Alexander's path of conquest, Iltani tracked him to Herat in modern-day Afghanistan, where he was holed up in a mighty Citadel. Despite its high walls, she managed to infiltrate the citadel but remained apprehensive that she would be able to eliminate him through force. Sure enough, she became aware that through cunning, Alexander had somehow divined her presence within the fortress. Realizing that the risks were too great, she aborted her mission and withdrew from Herat.

Her failure did not disrupt her resolve, and she quickly devised an alternative plan, one that involved meeting with a renowned Achaemenid alchemist who was then being hunted by the Greeks. After a perilous journey, she arrived in Babylon, where she found the alchemist and acquired the secret formula for a deadly poison. While the poison was not as fast-acting as she had hoped, it was virulent enough to guarantee death.

Throughout her mission to kill Alexander, she had left messages for her fellow Assassins across the lands she traveled, including in India and Herat. These messages chronicled her quest and could only be deciphered through Eagle Vision. In the event that her assassination were to fail, she even left behind the recipe of the poison on her last message.

This proved unnecessary, as in June 323 BCE, Iltani successfully poisoned Alexander the Great after infiltrating the palace of Nebuchadnezzar II. True to the slow nature of her poison, Alexander withered away over several days until he finally perished.

Tomb
By the time of the Italian Renaissance, Iltani's sarcophagus had been moved to the spire of the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. The Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze explored her tomb and took the seal from her sarcophagus, allowing him to unlock th Armor of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad that was sealed in a vault under the Villa Auditore in Monteriggioni.

In the year 2000, a statue of Iltani stood in the Mentor's office in Dubai.

Trivia
*Iltani is the feminine form of a Babylonian word meaning "lucky" or "favored by the god(dess)". It is also the Babylonian name for the north wind.
Darius was a Persian Proto-Assassin during the Achaemenid Empire whose assassination of the king of kings Xerxes I is renowned as the first recorded usage of the Hidden Blade.

Biography
During the 5th century BCE, the Proto-Templars supported the reign and conquests of the Achaemenid kings Darius I and his son Xerxes I. Darius personally assassinated King Xerxes I with the Hidden Blade, in what would become the first recorded use of the Assassins' iconic weapon.

By the Renaissance, Darius' remains had been transferred to Basilica di Santa Maria Novella in Florence, where his body lay with an Assassin Seal that provided access to the hidden armor of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. In 1478, his sarcophagus was opened by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who took the Seal and later obtained the armor.

A statue of Darius was also erected sometime before 1476 in the sanctuary beneath the Villa Auditore in Monteriggioni.

Trivia
*Darius was the first known user of the Hidden Blade.
*Darius was depicted with all ten fingers. Whether this is artistic license or an oversight is unknown.
*Unlike most other Assassins, Darius wore his Hidden Blade on the right arm.
*Historically, Xerxes was assassinated by Artabanus of Persia.
