At the time revisited in ''[[Assassin's Creed]]''. Saracens are defending the Holy Land from the Christian [[Crusader]] invaders, who seek to reclaim it in the name of Christian.

Although [[Crusaders]] have had some victories (most notably the retaking of [[Acre]]), most of the Holy Land is still held by Saracens. The lands to the east and southeast are Saracen stronghold, and they surround the cities of [[Damascus]] and [[Jerusalem]], which are also Saracen-held.
