Lucy Stillman (born 1988) is a member of the Assassin Order and former genetic memory researcher for Abstergo Industries' Animus project. During her infiltration of Abstergo, she reported back information to the Assassins on their recent activities. Once Desmond Miles had finished reliving his ancestor Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's memories, Lucy helped him to escape the Abstergo laboratory. She then took him to the hideout, where he began his Assassin training, with the aid of new allies, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane.

Biography
Early life
Before starting work with Abstergo Industries, Lucy Stillman attended university to study cognitive neuroscience, but was forced to leave when her mentors began to hold issue with her topic of study, considered pseudoscience. Forced out of the university, she applied at a variety of locations, and tried everything to achieve employment, at one point joking to Desmond, "I was this close to waiting tables."

Eventually, she was contacted by Dr. Warren Vidic, who offered her a position at Abstergo Industries. She accepted the offer, and began working with Dr. Vidic on his Animus project immediately. For the first three years, Lucy was largely responsible for the design of a number of the Animus' functions and interfaces. While Lucy was on fairly cordial and friendly terms with a few other employees at Abstergo, such as Richard, these same individuals were later ordered to have Lucy killed, before Vidic intervened, seeing her as a valuable employee.

Working for Abstergo
Lucy was first seen after she pulled Desmond out of the Animus, seeing that his subconscious would not let him view the specific memory that Abstergo wanted. As Vidic explained to Desmond what the Animus does and what genetic memories are, she explained Abstergo's goal, without revealing too much information to Desmond.

In between sessions, Lucy asked Desmond questions concerning his past, and answered his about Abstergo, while trying not to reveal too much information. Lucy also stated that he was not the only person Abstergo was detaining, and that she too was an unfortunate captive. She then told him a story of how, in the past, Abstergo had decided to silence her, in order to keep her from speaking about the Animus; but before her assailants could eliminate her, they were ordered to stand down by Warren Vidic. She claimed that he had saved her life that day, and told Desmond not to judge Dr. Vidic so harshly, as he was under a lot of pressure.

As more time passed on, Lucy left the access codes in Desmond's wardrobe, so that he could finally leave his room. On the Animus, Desmond found Lucy's pen, which was also left there for him to find. This gave him access to her computer, so he could read her e-mails. Later, Lucy revealed to Desmond that she is also an Assassin, and was only undercover to learn more about Abstergo's plans.

When Desmond finished his time in the Animus, three Abstergo executives, along with Vidic, decided to kill Desmond, seeing as they had retrieved the information they needed. Lucy however intervened, and convinced them to keep Desmond for more testing, as his memories could still reveal more about the locations of the Pieces of Eden.

Escape to the Hideout
A few hours after Lucy and Vidic left, Desmond was still trapped in the lab, after he had used his new skill, Eagle Vision, to view Subject 16's hidden messages. Suddenly, Lucy rushed into the room, with stains of blood on her shirt from fighting her way through the Abstergo facility. Lucy told Desmond that there was no time to waste, and that he had to get into the Animus to retrieve the memory core data. Lucy wrote the data on a disk and, along with Desmond, began to flee. The two successfully fought their way out of the facility, and eventually made it to the parking lot.

There, they found themselves confronted by more guards. Quickly disposing of them, Lucy told Desmond to go into the trunk of a car "for [his] own protection." When the drive was over, the pair arrived at the hideout. Before they entered the main room, Lucy told Desmond that she had brought him to the hideout to train him to become an Assassin, by using the Animus 2.0 and its bleeding effect to imprint skills through another ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Entering the main room, Lucy's fellow Assassins, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, introduced themselves to Desmond, and began preparations for the sessions. Later in the day, Lucy evaluated Desmond's progress, by tasking him with setting up the security systems. In between sessions, they also spoke of issues such as the Templars, and other Assassins.

After Desmond discovered the Vault in Rome by reliving Ezio's memories, the alarm went off as Abstergo invaded their hideout. In a rush, Lucy gave Desmond a Hidden Blade similar to Ezio's, and they made their way downstairs. When they encountered Warren Vidic in the warehouse, he reminded her that he had saved her life. Both Lucy and Desmond engaged in a fight with the Abstergo guards, quickly defeating them. Vidic was last seen in the back of a truck, stating that the attack was only the beginning, and then fled. When Desmond started to go after him, Lucy stopped him and said that they will bring Vidic to justice for what he has done eventually.

Lucy and the others evacuated the hideout, as their location had been revealed, and Abstergo would be back with reinforcements. They left in a van to hide in the mountains, and Desmond prepared to enter the Animus again to continue their search for clues. Meanwhile, Lucy continued to study the session notes to try to figure out what the "goddess" Minerva had meant, telling Desmond that everything she had feared was starting to happen.

Search for the Apple
After a long drive, the Assassins finally arrived in modern-day Monteriggioni, setting up a new hideout in the Sanctuary underneath the Villa Auditore. She and Desmond both opened the door to the Sanctuary by passing through the underground sewers and tunnels.

After Desmond relived Ezio's last memories, the Assassins discovered that Ezio had hidden the Apple of Eden in a vault underneath the Colosseum. After Desmond retrieved the Apple within the vault, Juno took control of Desmond's body and said that "The Path must be opened. The scales shall be balanced." Desmond was then forced to stab Lucy in the abdomen with his hidden blade, and the two fall unconscious to the floor, her blood pooling around her. Het fate is currently unknown.

Personality
Let me guess, you're more the in-bed-at-six type.
In contrast to Warren Vidic's personality, Lucy is a warm and appreciative individual with a bright personality. She always lends encouraging words and sympathy towards Desmond, though it irritates him sometimes. At times, when Warren Vidic attempts to force Desmond to go deeper into the Animus memory, Lucy will stop him from doing so, and plead with Vidic to allow Desmond to rest, showing her caring personality.

Lucy is also both cunning and resourceful, keeping Desmond's night-time explorations of the Animus room secret, but becomes irate or worried under too much pressure. She becomes sensitive to the death of her colleagues, particularly her friend Leila Marino, as well as her role in Subject 16's loss of sanity, and the stress over the death of two more teams (eight Assassins) in the field.

Trivia
* Lucy is modeled after and voiced by Kristen Bell.
*The name "Lucy" means "Light." Whether or not this is meant to reflect her character is unknown.
* The achievement "Conversationalist" can be unlocked in the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed by talking to Lucy every time Desmond exits the Animus. Note that Desmond must talk to her completely, until she says that she's too busy to talk, or asks if he's tired.
*In Assassin's Creed II, Lucy drives a car similar to the real world Mercedes CLS.
*Lucy's character model is drastically altered between games. In the first Assassin's Creed, she is dressed in appropriate business attire. In Assassin's Creed II, her clothes are much more casual, and she has a slightly more curvaceous figure, and different facial structure and hairstyle, with larger eyes and lipstick. Lucy's eyes also go from blue-gray to completely blue. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, her model is again altered, looking closer to the first game's version, with a brown jacket worn over her clothes from Assassin's Creed II.
*In Assassin's Creed II, it is revealed that she is a very successful fighter, taking down many Abstergo guards while she and Desmond were escaping Abstergo, and later, the Hideout. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, she is seen to have a similar level of free-running abilities to Desmond and his ancestors.
*It is implied throughout Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that Lucy and Desmond have feelings for each other. There is evidence of this, by her caring for his well-being due to the bleeding effect, as well as hugging him, and saying that she's glad he's with the Assassins.
**In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, an e-mail she received from William M. also further implies that Lucy has feelings for Desmond. The message states that she should not keep Desmond out of danger "just because of feelings she may or may not have" for him.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Lucy has Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy up on her computer in the sanctuary, set to the memory sequence for Mario Auditore.
*Lucy's e-mail password in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is "Juno57". This may be foreshadowing, as Juno later appears (in hologram form) when the group goes to Rome.
*While Desmond talks to Lucy outside the Villa in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, she comments that nearly a decade of her life has been spent searching for the Pieces of Eden. That would mean she had been looking for the Pieces since she was at least 14 years old (according to her birth year).
*Interestingly, the shot after the credits in Brotherhood seems to show her holding the Piece of Eden, while she clearly wasn't holding it when she and Desmond fell to the ground.
Well Ezio, looks like you got yourself a second chance
Cristina Vespucci (1459 - 1498), was a well-known Florentine beauty and a favorite of painters, most notably Botticelli, who used her as a model for several of his paintings.

Biography
Early life
Cristina Vespucci was born in Florence, Italy, circa 1459. From an early age, she caught the eyes of many boys who wanted to become intimate with her. One of those boys was Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who was encouraged to go speak with Cristina by his brother Federico one night. However, Cristina wasn't interested in him and walked away. Ezio, who wasn't used to being turned down by a woman, followed Cristina to her home, where she was confronted by Vieri de' Pazzi. After Cristina turned Vieri down as well, he was about to sexually attack Cristina, when he was interrupted by Ezio, who had come to Cristina's rescue. The two fought and Ezio emerged the victor. Cristina was thankful of Ezio's actions, and so began a relationship between the two.

Ezio visited Cristina quite frequently and was "unbelievably dexterous," as the guards were never able to catch him trespassing.

Middle years
Cristina was a bit responsible for starting her cousin Amerigo's career. Cristina attended a dinner party, where she had a conversation with Lorenzo de' Medici and Manfredo Soderini about her cousin. She exaggerated Amerigo's brilliance, saying: "Try Amerigo out. I bet after several years you'll have your shipping company named after him." Lorenzo, charmed by Cristina's beauty, took her advice to heart and several years later, Amerigo was the first to map out the New World and had it named after him.

In 1476, directly after the Auditore execution, Cristina helped Ezio give his father and brothers the proper final rites by burning and setting their bodies adrift in the Arno. Ezio asked Cristina to come with him, as he needed to leave for Monteriggioni with his family. However, Cristina refused, as she didn't want to leave her family.
In 1478, by the insistence of her father, Cristina was engaged to be married to Manfredo Soderini. When Ezio returned to Florence for the first time in two years, Cristina was the first person he visited. After a short talk, she sadly mentioned that she had not expected him to return, and told him of the engagement, breaking Ezio's heart. After being informed that Manfredo was being confronted by people whom he owed a gambling debt, Ezio rushed to save Cristina's fiance. After killing the gamblers, Ezio hung Manfredo over a bridge and demanded to know if he truly loved Cristina, to which Manfredo sincerely replied yes. Ezio ordered him to stop gambling and to be a good husband to Cristina, or else he would hunt him down and kill him. Afterward, Ezio returned to Cristina and kissed her, telling her that he had made sure that Manfredo would be a good husband to her.

Eight years later, 1486 in Venice, Leonardo da Vinci revealed to Ezio that Cristina was attending Carnevale with her husband. Worrying that she would not agree to see him after all the years by simply asking her, Ezio slipped a letter to Cristina, posing as her husband and requesting her to meet him alone in an alley. Cristina obliged and the two kissed, with Cristina believing Ezio to be Manfredo, as he was wearing a mask. After discovering the truth, she yelled at Ezio for kissing her, both because she was already married and because she hadn't seen Ezio in so many years. Cristina told Ezio that, before, she had loved him and would rather have married him, but it was now too late. She angrily told him to never look for her again and left.

In 1494, Girolamo Savonarola took control of Florence after Lorenzo de' Medici's death. Savonarola claimed that all Renaissance material was evil and that they should go back to the medieval times, instigating the Bonfire of the Vanities.

In 1498, Savonarola's fanatics infiltrated the Palazzo d'Arzente to kill Manfredo Soderini. Manfredo attempted to fend them off, however, this was a vain effort, as there were too many attackers. Cristina managed to escape, but was soon cornered by the fanatics. At this point, Ezio, after hearing about what had happened from a dying Manfredo, came to her aid and killed all of the soldiers. However, Cristina was already mortally wounded and was slowly dying. After showing him the pendant she had kept with her the past twenty-two years, and telling him she wished they could have had a second chance together, she died in Ezio's arms.

*Even though Cristina was married for twenty years and saw Ezio only for a few short minutes once every several years, she still loved him more than her own husband.
*Cristina features in several repressed memories during Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which are unlocked when the player achieves certain amounts of Synchronization.
*Cristina, like many characters in the Assassin's Creed series, does not physically age during the course of the Cristina missions in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
*In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, Ezio is only later informed of Cristina's death by Niccolò Machiavelli.
Rosa was a member of the thieves faction led by Antonio in Assassin's Creed II. Ezio first encounters Rosa upon arriving in Venice, where she attempts to pickpocket him out of the money he was about to use to purchase a wooden model for Leonardo. Later, Ezio saves her after she was shot in the leg with an arrow while trying to climb the Palazzo della Seta, and was unable to run away from the guards. She eventually teaches Ezio the climb-leap ability.

Biography
Early life
Rosa was born in 1460. Nine months before, a Venetian nobleman paid a prostitute for her services and Rosa was the result of this event. The prostitute probably couldn't raise the child, so Rosa survived in the streets of Venice alone. At the age of fifteen, Rosa tried to steal from Antonio de Magianis, a stranger to her at this point, but was caught. Antonio, being the chief of the Venetian Thieves Guild, decided to keep Rosa as his pupil rather than sending her to the guards. Throughout her apprenticeship, Antonio noted many of her talents, especially her high level of agility. Antonio seemed to maintain a very parental relationship with Rosa as he would often call her sweetheart or little darling.

Assisting Ezio
By the year 1485, Emilio Barbarigo, in secret a member of the Templars, had complete control over Venice's merchant district. The Venetian thieves weren't satisfied with Emilio's rule and aspired to free the district's inhabitants. Rosa and a group of thieves attempted to infiltrate Emilio's Palazzo della Seta, but Rosa ended up getting shot in her leg by an archer. While trying to run back to the guild, she bumped into Ezio, whom she had previously robbed. He later helped her to fend off the attacking guards and also carried her to fellow thief Ugo, who put her in a boat. Ugo managed to get Rosa to the guild while Ezio took out the archers trying to kill them.

While recovering from her wounds, Rosa taught Ezio how to grab higher ledges. After Ezio's first successful climb-leap attempt, Rosa initiates a mission which challenged Ezio to climb the Santa Maria dei Frari within a time limit.

In a later mission, Rosa, along with several other of Antonio's thieves disguised themselves as archers Ezio had killed earlier. This was part of a larger plan which involved Ezio sneaking the the Palazzo della Seta to assassinate Emilio Barbarigo.

In 1488, on Ezio's birthday, Rosa gifted l'Arsenale's shipping manifest to Ezio. It detailed the return of a Templar boat the day after.

Madam of the Rosa in Fiore
In 1504, Claudia Auditore da Firenze, the madam of the Rosa in Fiore in Rome, stepped down after being assaulted by Borgia fanatics. Soon after, Antonio was contacted by his fellow Assassin La Volpe, who asked him if Rosa would like to replace Claudia as the brothel's madam. Rosa agreed and moved to Rome.

Characteristics and personality
Rosa, being the only female of the Venetian Thieves Guild, has a very aggressive, tough personality to match the male-dominated group, overall making her a tomboy. For example, a note from Antonio states that the thieves who tried to kiss Rosa were badly beaten up by her afterwards. She is not afraid to give orders or speak her mind to her fellow thieves (Ugo, for example, receives only insults from her, despite assisting in her rescue) as she will yell and insult them to their faces.

Rosa also appears to have one of the dirtiest mouths in the game after Caterina Sforza; this is shown after she gets shot in the leg, when she shouts "Bastardi!" left and right. Upon her initial run in with Ezio she claims she does not need assistance with her wound and Ezio is forced to follow and protect her until she eventually falls, at which point he carries her to safety. When carried to Antonio, she fiercely cursed him out while he was removing the arrow. After being rescued, Rosa’s personality and attitude toward Ezio changes drastically, becoming extremely flirtatious and more intimate, such as looking excited when Ezio stated he needed her, only to become disappointed when he wanted to learn her climbing technique. She seems to revert to her true self when around him instead of the tough thief image she maintains most of the time.

Relationship with Ezio
Like a lot of women in Assassin’s Creed II, Rosa becomes attracted to Ezio after their initial meeting, although she tried to pickpocket him by pretending to bump into him, causing Ezio to call her a jerk. However, unlike the majority of Ezio’s other love interests presented throughout the game, Ezio maintains a close, intimate friendship with Rosa and the two are often seen flirting whenever in each other's company, with an implied relationship during that period of their lives. Although, in the novel Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, Ezio and Rosa do have an intimate relationship together, constantly flirting and many cases of kissing.

Trivia
*She is one of the best free-runners in the Venetian Thieves Guild.
*In Eagle Vision, she will turn red for a split-second after you have assassinated Emilio Barbarigo.
*Rosa fights with a Sultan's Knife.
*It is also possible to assassinate Rosa. After the mission Everything Must Go, you might see her walking past Ezio in the guard armor she wore during the memory. Here, you can assassinate her, however it will not affect gameplay.
*The arrow that hit Rosa's leg disappears during gameplay but reappears after.
*Rosa is not seen as the Madame of the Rosa in Fiore in The Da Vinci Disappearance despite it taking place in 1506, and Claudia having stepped down in 1504. Most likely, this is a practical decision by the game creators as to not have to explain Rosa's sudden appearance to those who haven't read the Brotherhood novel.

Warren Vidic is a member of the Templar Order and a scientist employed by Abstergo Industries. He is also the head of research for the genetic memory and the Animus project.

Biography
Early life
Almost nothing is known about Warren's life. Vidic claims he has spent the last 30 years studying genetic memories in the opening cutscenes of Assassin's Creed, meaning either that he has been employed by Abstergo for 30 years or that he had only been working on genetic memories for that time and had been working for Abstergo for even longer.

Subject 4
In 1985, Vidic started to experiment on Daniel Cross, who would be called "Subject 4". He put Cross in the Animus to relive the memories of his ancestor, though he also experimented on Cross with a replica "Piece of Eden". Cross also had a secret impulse embedded into his subconscious that would drive him to assassinate the Mentor of the Assassin Order, should the opportunity to do so arise. In 2000, Cross met with the Mentor in the Assassin Order's headquarters in Dubai, where he unwillingly killed the latter. He returned to Abstergo Industries' headquarters in Philadelphia, where Cross' own memories where used to find all the Assassin camps and exterminate the Assassins.

Subject 17
In the year 2012, Warren Vidic holds the position of head of genetic research at Abstergo Industries; part of his role including looking after test subjects for his Animus project. That year, he authorized the capture of the seventeenth test subject; a bartender named Desmond Miles. At first, Vidic found the new test subject both unwilling and, subconsciously, not confident enough to explore his ancestor's memories. After making it clear to Desmond that failure to cooperate would entail a medically-induced coma and abandonment to die once finished, Vidic managed to gain his cooperation.

Despite Desmond's cooperation, however, progress was slow. Vidic's assistant, Lucy Stillman, was overly protective of Desmond's health, and insisted on only short stints within the Animus, lest their latest test subject begin to hallucinate as the previous one did. Disheartened but compliant, Vidic ordered Desmond to his quarters and left the laboratory. The next day, Desmond awoke to Vidic standing over him, eager to progress with the days work. More cheerful, Vidic humored Desmond's curiosity and willingly answered some of his questions, but eventually insisted on him re-entering the Animus.

As the week went on, and Desmond made progress within the Animus, Vidic's mood swung between calm and collected to irritable and short-tempered. During one such day, whilst looking out over the skyline outside his laboratory, Vidic unknowingly left his access pen in plain sight; Desmond managed to acquire it without Vidic becoming aware. Towards the end of the week, as Desmond began to approach the conclusion of his journey within the memories, Vidic started to become much more insistent on a quick closure.

After witnessing the death of Al Mualim and activation of the Piece of Eden in Desmond's genetic memories, Vidic recorded the map displayed within the memory, commenting "We've got it". As Desmond awoke, he saw three suited individuals in the laboratory's conference room. The three begun discussing with Vidic the results, and insisted upon Desmond's "retirement"; Vidic agreed, but was cut short by Lucy, who insisted that Desmond's use had not yet ended. The two argued to the point of Vidic claiming that Lucy was undermining his authority, and Vidic stubbornly agreed in Lucy's assessment to let Desmond live; to "leave nothing to chance". Ordering Desmond back into his room, the Doctor left the laboratory.

After the escape
The next day, Vidic received word of Desmond's escape, and the assistance Lucy had given him in executing it. The Templar quickly set about tracking down the Assassins, and within two days had accomplished his goal and set about capturing the two.

Locating the hideout, Vidic took a contingent of Abstergo security guards to apprehend Desmond and Lucy, arriving just as Desmond finished exploring the memories of another of his ancestors - Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Cutting off the Assassins' escape, Vidic attempted to coerce Desmond into coming peacefully whilst berating Lucy for her apparent betrayal. The two rejected him, and so Vidic ordered his guards to apprehend them. Minutes later, following the death or incapacitation of his entourage, Vidic was confronted by Desmond at the rear of his vehicle. Commenting that the Assassins should enjoy their temporary victory, he fled, leaving the Assassins to escape to a cabin northwards.

After that, Vidic went on to initiate and train a team of Abstergo's loyal agents into more "subjects" like Desmond, through the use of several Animi, and the Bleeding effect.

Personality and characteristics
Dr. Warren Vidic was a hardened scientist and fanatical member of the Knights Templar during the early 21st Century. Although an intelligent man, Vidic was somewhat forgetful, and would often need reminding of pass-codes and the likes; he also tended to leave his access key on display, and had on more than one occasion lost it outright.

An atheist, Vidic believed wholeheartedly in the non-existence of God, suggesting that many religious artifacts such as the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant and the Apple of Eden were simply technology left behind by Those Who Came Before as gifts to the Templars; a belief which he thought to be fact. Ruthless, yet clumsy, Vidic had a short temper and showed little care for the welfare of his test subjects.

On at least one occasion, as in the case of Subject 16, Vidic's insistence that his test subject remain in the Animus for dangerously long periods of time, sometimes even whole days, led to the subject's suicide. Despite this, Vidic was unfazed, merely requesting another test subject. This seventeenth test subject – Desmond Miles – eventually succeeded where his predecessors had failed, and obtained the map indicating the location of the Pieces of Eden. This success, however, did little to ingratiate him in the eyes of Dr. Vidic, who agreed with the assessment of his superiors that Desmond should be executed. His mind only changed after being convinced by his assistant, Lucy Stillman, that Desmond could still be of further use.

Warren's relationship with Lucy was frosty at best. Despite saving her life and taking her under his wing, Warren seemed to barely tolerate her presence, and found her insistence on prolonging the project irritating. Despite this however, he did care for Lucy, and would withhold information from her that he knew would force his hand had she known; such as the circumstances surrounding the death of her friend Leila Marino. Following her and Desmond's escape, Vidic located and intercepted the two assassins as they attempted to flee their hideout; he commented on her treachery and how she had helped him cause pain and misery to his test subjects.

Trivia
*His first name means "Guarded" or "Of la Varenne" (La Varenne is a suburb of Paris, indicating that this is where he may have come from) in Old English.
*Although his last name Vidic is a common Serbian surname (Serbian latinic: Vidić, pronounced: ˈʋiditɕ) and roughly translates to "the one who sees" or "of those who see", it was never stated that he is from that country.
*Desmond taking Warren's access pen is (so far) the only example of pickpocketing shown in modern times. Whether this is a manifestation of the Bleeding effect, or Desmond is simply skilled at picking someone's pocket is unknown.
*Warren's face seems a lot more detailed in "Assassin's Creed" than "Assassin's Creed II". The reason behind this could be that he has a minor appearance in Assassin's Creed II, and the developers just implemented Warren's key features to save time.
*Vidic owns a Lamborghini and another sports car, as seen in the garage where Desmond and Lucy fight off the Abstergo guards.
*In the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer, Vidic features in the introductory video, and as the narrator for the training program.
*Certain letter within the Rift Cluster puzzles are signed with the initials W.V. Such as a letter discussing the partial reproduction of the Pieces of Eden's mind control signal over a television network.

Monteriggioni is a city in and commune of Tuscany, Italy featured in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Built in the 13th Century by the overlords of Siena, Monteriggioni was actively involved in the defense of Tuscany against Florentine attempts to gain more territory. At the front of this conflict was the Auditore family, who became the city's rulers and protectors. They constructed Monteriggioni's famous walls and the Villa Auditore.

History
In 1290, the Assassin Domenico Auditore constructed the Villa Auditore using funds he had gained from Marco Polo. Domenico and his son used Monteriggioni as a base of operations in their silent war against the Templars. In 1296, Domenico built the Auditore Family Crypt in the city. He hid the Armor of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad in the Sanctuary under the villa, which could only be unlocked by Assassin seals that were scattered around Italy, hidden in sarcophagi of famous historical Assassins. At some point, the Shroud was hidden in a lair of elaborate traps beneath the city by a member of the Auditore.

In 1454, Mario Auditore was made sole ruler of Monteriggioni when his brother Giovanni moved to Florence. The city came under frequent attack by Florence during this time, leading Mario to strengthen the city's economy and defenses in order to better withstand Florentine pressure.

Soon after, Mario discovered that a man named Luciano Pezatti was causing strife within the city by turning families against each other. After he was captured and interrogated, Pezatti revealed that Florence was planning a large attack on Monteriggioni. Rallying his forces, Mario successfully repelled the Florentine forces led by Federico da Montefeltro. After successfully defending the city, Mario continued to interrogate Luciano, only to discover that the purpose of the Florentine attack was to acquire the Shroud hidden under the city. Mario soon discovered the Shroud hidden in the hollowed-out well of the town and had it removed from Monteriggioni by Giovanni.

Over the next twenty years, Monteriggioni gradually fell into disrepair as Mario devoted more of his time to war and the Brotherhood. By 1476, most of the town's shops had closed, the number of visitors to the city had decreased and the upkeep of the Villa Auditore was neglected.

In 1476, Mario's nephew, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, took shelter in Monteriggioni and later became the city's biggest investor and co-ruler with Mario. For over twenty years, Monteriggioni prospered as Ezio used the funds gathered during his adventures to reopen the city's shops, bordello and thieves' guild. Significant improvements were also made to the city's infrastructure, and the Villa Auditore was renovated. By 1499, the city had become a vital headquarters of the Assassins, whose flag flew over the city. Around this time, cannons were added to the city's defenses.

In 1500, Cesare Borgia led a siege on Monteriggioni in order to recover the Apple of Eden that had been taken by Ezio from the Templars. Though the Assassins were able to temporarily hold off the attack while the citizens were evacuated, the city soon fell and Mario was killed. The city and Villa Auditore suffered significant damage as a result of this attack. The Assassins abandoned the city, relocating their headquarters to Rome. At some later point, an elderly Ezio returned to the city, entering the Sanctuary underneath the Villa Auditore for unknown reasons.

Prior to 1554, the Auditore regained control of Monteriggioni, rebuilding the town and presumably the Villa (as it is of interest to note the damage in modern times does not correspond with that done during Cesare's attack). The city was betrayed in 1554 by Giovannino Zeti, the keeper of the garrison and a Florentine exile, who was allowed to return to Florence in exchange for the keys to the city. The city was soon attacked and conquered by the Medici of Florence. However, due to the Auditore's good relations with the Medici, they were allowed to continue their leadership over Monteriggioni.

By the 21st century, the city was largely unchanged from its Renaissance appearance and had become a tourist attraction, with a plaque in front of the ruined Villa Auditore commemorating the siege of the city by the Borgia. A small group of modern day Assassins, made up of Desmond Miles, Lucy Stillman, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, arrived in the city on September 9, 2012 to seek refuge from the Templars of Abstergo Industries. They set up a temporary hideout in the Sanctuary beneath the Villa Auditore, where the cell signals Abstergo was using to locate them could not reach. The group remained there for the next month as Desmond used the Animus to determine the modern day location of Ezio's Apple of Eden, venturing above ground only at night or when supplies were needed. The team left the city to collect the Apple in Rome on October 10.

Renovations
The player can use florins to renovate Monteriggioni in Assassin's Creed II, investing in the renovation of various buildings throughout the town. Additionally, famous Renaissance paintings can be purchased at art merchants throughout Italy, which are hung in the painting gallery of Villa Auditore. As the town is renovated, the appearance of the Villa gradually improves and flags are also added to buildings, changing from the Auditore symbol to the Assassin's logo when the villa is fully renovated.

The following renovations can be purchased through the architect at Villa Auditore:
*A bank (which will grant a great boost in the Villa's fame) at the cost of 1,500 florins for the first renovation, 5,000 for the second and 9,000 for the third one. It does nothing else.
*A Doctor. There is no need to "buy" the doctor as his shop is already open. However, the player can renovate his shop two times at the cost of 3,000 and 5,000 florins.
*A Tailor at the cost of 1,000 florins. The subsequent renovations cost 2,500 and 5,000 florins.
*A Blacksmith. Similar to the doctor, the Blacksmith is already open. It is still possible to renovate the shop two more times for 7,000 and 12,000 florins.
*An Art Merchant for 1,000 florins. 5,000 and 8,000 florins are respectively for the second and third renovations.
*Restore the Church (for a fame's boost similar to the one obtained with the bank) at the the cost of 4,000 florins.
*Restore the Well (another fame boost) at the cost of 4,000 florins.
*Add a Thieves' Guild (fame boost) at the cost of 3,000 florins. Thieves will be seen more often.
*Add a Brothel (fame boost) at the cost of 3,000 florins. Courtesans are seen more often around town.
*Add Military Barracks (fame boost) at the cost of 3,000 florins. Mercenaries are seen more often walking around town.
*Reopen the Mine (fame boost) at the cost of 4,000 florins.

Achievements
The achievement/trophy, "Podestà of Monteriggioni" can be gained by reaching 80% of the Villa total value.
{|border="1" cellpadding="2" style="text-align:center"
Gameplay
Every improvement to the city will help develop the local economy, rewarding the player with periodic income, which can be reinvested in the city or used elsewhere in the game. Renovations usually add treasure chests to the renovated area. For however much you spend on renovations, you will be paid back 10% of the investment per 20 minutes. For example, if you renovate the well for 4,000 florins, your periodic income generated from the town will increase by 400.

Furthermore any renovations for the four "active" shops (art merchant, blacksmith, doctor and tailor) will allow the player a discount up to the 15% (with three renovations) of the item's original price.

There is a chest inside the Villa, in the same room where you decide on renovations, that will store the money your investments earn you. It receives a deposit (deposit varies based on total investment amount) every 20 minutes, but has a limit on how much it can hold. If you let it fill, any excess will be lost to Claudia. For this reason, it's recommended to return to the Villa to empty it periodically. It is set up to where the chest will be full after 4 deposits (every 1 hour and 20 minutes, giving the player 1 hour and 39 minutes to clean it out before it goes over).

Throughout the city, Ezio can find eight statuettes of some of the gods worshiped in ancient Rome. Each pair of statuettes belong to a pedestal, and every completed pedestal rewards Ezio with a hefty 2,000 florin reward.

If a player earns enough Uplay points, they can also unlock the Auditore Family Crypt, another secret location that reveals more about the Auditore family and its humble origins.

The city also plays host to a multiplayer map in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Trivia
*After restoring the Mine, Well, Bank and Church, they all have hidden treasures which the user can search through. The towers at the walls of Monteriggioni have treasure in them as well after the Mercenary Barracks, Brothel and Thieves' Guild are renovated.
*In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the entrance to the Auditore Crypt is missing in Memory Sequence 1. However, it appears again in modern-day Monteriggioni, outside the Animus.

The Doctor (real name: Malfatto) is a multiplayer character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, who uses a syringe as his primary weapon.

His outfit highly resembles the ones worn by doctors during the plague, and appears black in the dark. His face is concealed by a mask, therefore making his true identity unknown. His outfit is different from what the doctors wear in Assassin's Creed II, most noticeably due to the slightly shorter beak of his mask.

He makes an appearance in the single player mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in a main storyline mission, as opposed to several other multiplayer characters, who appear in Templar Agent side missions.

He is also featured in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, where it is revealed that he is in the employ of Cesare Borgia, and is known as a serial killer that targets courtesans. Despite being on his side at the time, Fiora Cavazza feared him and called him a "monster." After their first meeting wherein Fiora delivered a sealed document from Cesare, Malfatto entered Fiora's home while she was sleeping and injected her with his syringe, either drugging her or attempting to poison her. However, she was able to defend herself, cutting him badly with her own weapon.

At one point in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio Auditore comes across a courtesan crying over a fellow courtesan's dead body. She told him Malfatto had murdered her. Ezio reassured the courtesan that he would find Malfatto, and after a short time he located the doctor prowling in the district. Ezio signaled his Assassin Recruits to kill Malfatto, and they succeeded shortly after.

Database Entry
Date of Birth: Unknown.

Profession: Doctor

Abstergo's database says: "Ravaging the poor districts of Rome, Malfatto preys on those unfortunate enough to be caught unaware."

The only data I could find outside of that was a report of a masked doctor in 1502 seen lurking outside the Rosa in Fiore. This guy seems like really bad news, and I've read a lot of bad news lately.

Unique Moves
Lethal Injection (Low Profile)
The Doctor attacks his target from behind and swiftly thrusts his syringe into the target's shoulder, injecting poison into their system. Before the victim can realize what has happened, they collapse to the ground and die silently. The Doctor can also perform a similar move from the front of the victim, where he thrusts the syringe into the victim's neck.

The Eye Stab (High Profile)
The Doctor charges at his target, injecting the syringe into their eye and causing instant death.
Mass Poisoning (Low Profile)
The Doctor pushes his syringe up through the victim's back, peircing the heart and ribcage. The tip is visible out of the target's sternum as their heart fails and the Doctor pushes them gently to the floor. (This is very similar to a way Ezio assassinates guards in the singleplayer campaign)

Customization
Colors:

*Malfatto is most likely based off from Jack the Ripper, a well known serial killer that preyed on prostitutes in impoverished areas of London around the year 1888. The removal of internal organs from his victims led many to believe that Jack was a doctor, or at least possessed surgical knowledge.
*Malfatto is an Italian surname that may derive from the Italian word malfattore or "someone who does evil deeds."
*If one skips the final courtesan checkpoint in the mission to kill him, Ezio can walk straight up to him, kill him with the hidden blade and still receive 100% synchronization.
Rosa was a member of the thieves faction led by Antonio in Assassin's Creed II. Ezio first encounters Rosa upon arriving in Venice, where she attempts to pickpocket him out of the money he was about to use to purchase a wooden model for Leonardo. Later, Ezio saves her after she was shot with an arrow to the leg trying to climb the Palazzo della Seta and was unable to run away from the guards. She eventually teaches Ezio the new climb-jump ability which becomes extremely important in the later stages of the game.

Biography
Early life
Rosa was born in 1460. Antonio, being the chief of the Venetian Thieves Guild decided to keep Rosa as his pupil rather than sending her to the guards.

After Ezio's first successful leap-climb, Rosa initiates a mission which challenged Ezio to climb the Santa Maria dei Frari within a time limit.

Between 1504 and 1506, Claudia Auditore da Firenze, the madam of the Rosa in Fiore in Rome, stepped down after being assaulted by Borgia fanatics.

It is possible Rosa may be an ancestor of Desmond, as in the novel Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Claudia gives up running the Rosa In Fiore. La Volpe then contacts Antonio in Venice and he sends Rosa to Rome to continue running the establishment. Ezio and Rosa had a relationship during Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, so when she came to Rome it is possible that her an Ezio hooked up again.

The Assassins abandoned the city, relocating their headquarters in Rome. At some later point, an elderly Ezio returned to the city, entering the Sanctuary underneath the Villa Auditore for unknown reasons.

However, the city and most likely the Villa (as the damage seen on the building in the modern day does not correspond with the damage seen during the attack in Ezio's time) were later rebuilt and the Auditore family resumed their rule over it.

Trivia
*Despite the fact Claudia states that Ezio will have to take the extra money to the Bank, Ezio is never able to access the bank at any point during the game. Ezio also has no limit to how much money he can carry.
*After restoring the Mine, Well, Bank and Church, they all have hidden treasures which the user can search through. The towers at the walls of Monteriggioni have treasure in them as well after the Mercenary Barracks, Brothel and Thieves' Guild are renovated.
*In the center of the city model when renovating the villa, the training area along with two walls above it and the shadow of the staircases leading to it below, looks like a smiling face.
*The two Assassin crests at the entrance of Monteriggioni and at the bottom of the staircase leading to the front of the Villa Auditore are much less detailed in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood than in Assassin's Creed II. This is likely due to Monteriggioni playing only a small role in Brotherhood.

The Assassins abandoned the city, relocating their headquarters in Rome. At some later point, an elderly Ezio returned to the city, entering the Sanctuary underneath the Villa Auditore for unknown reasons.

However, the city and most likely the Villa as well (as the damage seen on the building in the modern day does not correspond with the damage seen during the attack in Ezio's time) were later rebuilt by the Auditore family.

*After restoring the Mine, Well, Bank and Church, they all have hidden treasures which the user can search through. The towers at the walls of Monteriggioni have treasure in them as well after the Mercenary Barracks, Brothel and Thieves' Guild are renovated.

His outfit is different from what the doctors wear in Assassin's Creed II, most noticeably due to the shorter beak of his mask.

He makes an appearance in the single player mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in a Templar Agent side mission, along with several of the other multiplayer characters.

Whether his attack was ordered by Cesare in the letter, or by Malfatto's own will is unknown.

Lethal Injection
The Doctor charges at his target from behind and swiftly thrusts his syringe into the target's shoulder, injecting poison into their system. Before the victim can realize what has happened, they collapse to the ground and die silently. The Doctor can also perform a similar move from the front of the victim, where he thrusts the syringe into the victim's neck.

The Eye Stab
The Doctor charges and jumps onto his target, injecting the syringe into their eye and causing death.

Trivia
*Malfatto is most likely based off of Jack the Ripper, a well known serial killer that preyed on prostitutes in impoverished areas of London around the year 1888. The removal of internal organs from his victims led many to believe that Jack was a doctor, or at least possessed surgical knowledge.
*It is possible to kill Malfatto within him trying to run. As you go past the Courtesan 'checkpoints', avoid going to the last one of these. Instead, you can walk straight up to him. He will not run or otherwise acknowledge you unless you lock on to him. This way, you can easily kill him with the hidden blade and strangely enough receive 100% synch.
*Malfatto is an Italian surname that may derive from the Italian word malfattore or "someone who does evil deeds."

His outfit is different from what the doctors wear in Assassin's Creed II, most noticeably due to the shorter beak of his mask.

He makes an appearance in the single player mode of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in a Templar Agent side mission, along with several of the other multiplayer characters.

Whether his attack was ordered by Cesare in the letter, or by Malfatto's own will is unknown.

He will not run or otherwise acknowledge and won't do so unless you lock on to him. This way, you can easily kill him with the hidden blade and strangely enough receive 100% synch.
*Malfatto is an Italian surname that may derive from the Italian word malfattore or "someone who does evil deeds."

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad (الطائر ابن لا أحد in Arabic) (1166 - unknown) is the main protagonist in Assassin's Creed, as well as the ancestor of Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Desmond Miles. A trained Assassin, Altaïr was responsible for the near-destruction of the Knights Templar during the Third Crusade, eventually becoming Grandmaster of the Assassin's Order following the death of Al Mualim.

Altaïr continued to serve as an assassin until the end of his life, destroying the Templar presence on Cyprus before writing his famed Codex. He would later take his family east, to Mongolia, in the hopes of assassinating the Templar Genghis Khan; whom he suspected of possessing a Piece of Eden.

Biography
Early Life
Altaïr was born to a multi-faith family, consisting of a Christian mother and Muslim father in 1166 AD. Early in his childhood his parents left Masyaf for reasons unknown, though Altaïr felt little sorrow over their departure. Prior to the events of the series, Altaïr was inducted in the Assassins Order and trained under Al Mualim, quickly rising through the ranks to become a "Master Assassin" by the year 1191.

Altaïr later stated in his Codex that he never felt a connection with his parents, and that when they left it was nothing more than "two strangers" departing; adding that it was Al Mualim that cared for him during that early stage in his life.

In 1191, in the midst of the Third Crusade three Assassins – Altaïr, and the brothers Malik and Kadar – were sent by Al Mualim to explore the catacombs of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem; to receive an artifact the Knights Templar are searching for, and to deny them of it. After progressing through the catacombs, Altaïr breaks two of the tenets of the Assassin's Creed, confident in his mastery as an Assassin. Finally, upon seeing the arch-enemy of his Order – Robert de Sable – Altaïr attempts to slay the Templar Grandmaster, but is easily thwarted, and thrown from the temple, leaving Malik and Kadar trapped with the Templars. Upon returning to Masyaf Altaïr informs Al Mualim of his failure to acquire the Templar treasure and is lambasted, as this is occurring however Malik returns with the artifact, alone. Before any further action can be taken however the Templars attack Masyaf, taking the village and besieging the castle; Altaïr leads the defense of the castle, sneaking behind the Templar army and unleashing a torrent of felled tree logs; crushing the Templar army, before continuing into the village to remove the remaining Templar warriors. Once the attack was over however, the matters of his actions in the Temple Mount were addressed once again. Altaïr, having broken all three tenets of the Creed and failing to acquire the Templar treasure is deemed a failure, and traitor to the Creed; Al Mualim then stabs him in the stomach with a dagger, apparently killing him.

Following this, Altaïr wakes up from his 'sleep of the dead' and questions Al Mualim of his survival, the Grandmaster answering only that "…[Altaïr] saw only what [Al Mualim] wanted him to see…". Stripped of rank and possessions by Al Mualim, Altaïr was given a chance at redemption; starting as a novice once again, Altaïr was tasked to hunt down the traitor within Masyaf who had allowed the Templars entrance to Masyaf. Successful, Altaïr returns to Al Mualim and is rewarded with a rise in rank and the return of his Hidden Blade and longsword. Once again officially a member of the Order, Altaïr was then offered an exchange; the lives of nine men for his own.

The Nine
Starting his quest, Altaïr is directed to the city of Damascus, where he could locate his first target, the arms dealer and black market merchant Tamir.
Upon his arrival, he traveled to the local Assassin's Bureau and asks permission to assassinate his target. The rafiq however, denies it, ordering Altaïr to first gather as much information as possible about his target. Disgruntled, Altaïr did as he was tasked, exploring the city's poor district, interrogating informants, pickpocketing Tamir's associates and eavesdropping on conversations around him; eventually learning the location of his target. Returning to the Bureau with this information, he received permission to assassinate Tamir, and a white feather, to be wet in the victim's blood, as proof of the murder. Traveling to the plaza where Tamir is located, Altaïr witnesses Tamir slaying a business partner who had been unable to fulfill his order of weapons; and soon afterwards kills him whilst Tamir inspects the market stalls and criticises the work of his underlings. Returning to the Bureau, Altaïr is told to return to Al Mualim, who congratulates him by the accomplishment and rewards him a rank and part of his equipment back. Altaïr then left Masyaf for the other cities of the Holy Land, Jerusalem and Acre.

Where Altaïr first travelled is unknown, however upon his arrival at the Assassin's Bureau in Jerusalem, Altaïr was harshly received by Malik, now a dai and head of the Bureau in the city, who treats him with open contempt. Malik voices his outrage that Altaïr was allowed to live, but follows the orders of Al Mualim and allows him to investigate his target. Acquiring the necessary information, Altaïr returned to Malik, who reluctantly gives permission for the kill. Altaïr then entered the slave complex of Talal, so as to eliminate his target. Altaïr's arrival was anticipated however, and he was ambushed by Talal and his followers. Dispatching them, Altaïr chases Talal over the rooftops and through streets, before finally catching up with, and assassinating Talal. Altaïr returned to the Bureau, to Masyaf, and then moved to his next target.

In Acre, the location of his next target Garnier de Naplouse, Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller, Altaïr learns all that he can from the people of the district, before – with permission – moving against his target in the military hospital. Infiltrating Garnier's hospital, Altaïr watches his target tend to those who need caring, treating his patients with a concoctio of various herbs and medicines, before finally striking from the building's rafters. Fleeing the hospital through an upstairs window, a city wide alert is issued, although Altaïr was able to outlast it by hiding within the Bureau. Once again, the assassin returned to Masyaf, and spoke with Al Mualim. During this conversation, Altaïr reveals that de Naplouse named the Templar treasure – the Piece of Eden – that had been taken from de Sable.

Following this, Altaïr's quest continued; eventually learning that all those he had killed were joined by a common connection – all are members of the Knights Templar. After killing eight of the nine, Altaïr is directed to Jerusalem to assassinate the Grand Master of the Knights Templar himself, Robert de Sable, who is attending the funeral Altaïr's previous target in the city, Majd Addin. At the funeral Altaïr is identified and engaged by Robert and his soldiers, but is eventually able to overpower and pin down Robert. Removing his helmet, Robert is revealed to be a decoy for Altaïr, so that Robert had had time to meet up with King Richard at Arsuf and there, convince the Crusaders and Saracens to join forces against the Asassins. Allowing the decoy to live, Altaïr returns to the Bureau and reveals to Malik, who by this time has regained his trust in Altaïr, the deception on Robert's part. He informs Malik that Robert has fled to Arsuf in his attempt to unite Crusader and Saracen against the Assassins, and that the deaths of the Nine were Robert's smoking gun.

Making his way to Arsuf, Altaïr passes through the battlefield, engaging both the Saracen and Crusader armies before finally reaching Altaïr. Richard initially believes himself to be the assassin's next target, but is promptly told this is not the case. Telling Richard of Robert's plot to overthrow and rule the Holy Land, Richard allows God to decide the truth of the matter, and Altaïr is engaged by Robert's strongest Templar warriors; before finally engaging one another in person. Emerging victorious, Altaïr learns from Robert that Al Mualim was in fact a Templar, different only in that he did not wish to share the Piece of Eden with his nine brethren. Ensuring Richard that Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn also wants peace from the costly war, Altaïr returned to Masyaf to find the city in a hypnotic trance, and the assassins opposed to his presence.

Engaging the assassins', Altaïr kills many before he was finally overwhelmed; however, he was saved by the timely arrival of Malik and the Jerusalem based assassins. Making his way to the fortress, Altaïr learns that Al Mualim was responsible for using the Piece of Eden on the people of Masyaf. Al Mualim attempts to control Altaïr with the Piece of Eden, but fails, and the two engaged in battle. After fighting many illusions of both his former targets, and multiple copies of Al Mualim, Altaïr managed to strike down Al Mualim, ending the Piece of Eden's control over the people of Masyaf. As Al Mualim dies, he defends his actions as a means to an end-world peace- before finally challenging Altaïr's ability to destroy the Piece of Eden.

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
One month after the events of "Assassin's Creed", Altaïr was once again fights the Templar decoy from Jerusalem, learning her name to be Maria Thorpe. Interrogating her, Altaïr learnt that the death of Robert de Sable had routed Templars and sent them fleeing to Cyprus. Altaïr then decided to pursue them, and eliminate the remaining Templars; taking Maria with him. Meeting with the Cypriot assassins, Altaïr moved to eliminate the Templar leader on the island – Frederick the Red – who had hidden within Limassol Castle, and was successful. Returning to the Bureau, Altaïr found it to be under attack and Maria to have escaped. Liberating the bureau, Altaïr then moves to pursue Maria, catching up with her as she is arrested by the current Templar Grandmaster – Armand Bouchart – for conspiring with the assassins. Choosing to free Maria rather than eliminate Bouchart, Altaïr eliminates the Templar's guarding her but suffers her insults, his life being threatened in the process. Returning to the bureau in Limassol, Altaïr learns that Bouchart has left for Kyrenia, and of Pirate Templars storing treasures on a 'Grand Ship'. Infiltraiting the 'Grand Ship', Altaïr finds the manifest to be obviously filled with errors and decided to investigate the matter further in Kyrenia. At first Maria attempts to flee, but eventually complies with Altaïr, and the two head to Kyrenia.

Arriving in Kyrenia, Maria manages to escape whilst Altaïr is distracted by two pirates, but is eventually recaptured when Altaïr catches up with her; finding her to have just been saved by pirates by members of the local resistance to Templar rule. Leaving Maria with the resistance, Altaïr is tasked to eliminate a traitor by the resistance leader Barnabas. Upon finding the traitor – a man named Jonas – Altaïr learns of a bounty on his head and that of his "consort", before killing the traitor. Altaïr returns to find Maria once again under attack, this time by Templar Knights. After eliminating the Templars, Altaïr is directed to eliminate fanatics in Kyrenia who are rioting over the death of Jonas, and eventually to kill the Templar Knight directing the ambushes, a soldier named Moloch. Maria warns Altaïr not to engage Moloch, for that he will not survive; Altaïr was not to be swayed.

Locating Moloch within a castle, Altaïr was very nearly killed when the Templar catches the assassin's hidden blade, but was eventually killed.

The archives
Returning to the bureau, Altaïr learns that Maria and the assassins had been captured by the Templar Shalim, the son of Moloch, and that Barnabas was merely a Templar impostor. Freeing the captured resistance warriors, Altaïr learns that the bureau leader of Limassol was also a Templar spy. Unnerved, Altaïr located Shalim in the city harbour; finding Maria there, disguised and preparing to infiltrate the castle of Saint Hilarion. Altaïr then decided to join her, and bursts into Shalim's room in the midst of Maria's conversation. It was then that Altaïr learnt Shalim to have a twin brother, Shahar, and the twins engage Altaïr in battle, Maria having fled. After killing the twins, Altaïr returned to the bureau and, upon hearing of the Templars' deserting Kyrenia, reasons that the Templar archive must be located in Limassol. Upon his arrival however, he finds the townsfolk to be once again rioting, and out for Altaïr's head. At one stage, Altaïr was forced to call upon the power of the Piece of Eden in order to convince the townsfolk that they had been lied to, subsequently saving his own life.

Events progress further, and eventually both Altaïr and Maria find themselves discussing the Templar plan for the Piece of Eden; although Maria is unsure that Altaïr is the right person to protect the Piece from the Templars. It is at this moment that they are ambushed by the Templars, are forced to flee into the tunnels beneath Limassol castle, stumbling upon the Templar archives in the process. Within the archive Altaïr engages and kills Bouchart, although he finds that during his travels in Kyrenia the Templars had managed to empty the archive of its treasures. Together, Altaïr and Maria flee the archive and watch as it collapses. The two then discuss their futures, with Maria disregarding the Templar way and Altaïr expressing his wish to explore the Piece of Eden for intellectual purposes. The two then leave together, heading east.

Legacy
Following the events that transpired in Cyprus Altaïr began to write his codex, and by this time both Altaïr and Maria are living with one another; she later bore at least two children with Altaïr. Exploring the Piece of Eden, Altaïr re-discovered many advance technologies, including the creation of a wrist mounted firearm and the make-up of a feather-light metal, which was weaved into his Grandmaster robes; the same robes that would later be worn by his descendant Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Altaïr later learnt that the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan was in fact a member of the Templars, and he suspected him of possessing a Piece of Eden – the Sword. As such, Altaïr and his family moved to Mongolia so as to remove the Templar conqueror; although Altaïr was himself too old to assassinate Genghis Khan, and so the responsibility passed on to his sons.

The date and location of Altaïr's death remains unknown, although he continued to write the Codex up until the very end; in the last page of which, he remarked upon his temptation to use the Piece of Eden to extend his life, stating that he "[knew] the knowledge is [in] there." During the events of Assassin's Creed II, Altaïr is thought to have been dead for hundreds of years. His descendant, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, found the Codex and united it for the first time since his great-grandfather had held it, and discovered it to have a secret map of the world, identifying the location of all the Pieces of Eden.

Ezio also managed to acquire the robes of Altaïr, Grandmaster of the Assassin’s Order, which had been hidden beneath the Villa Auditore by his great-grandfather, after locating the tombs of six famed Assassins; one of which belonged to Qulan Gal, the assassin of Genghis Khan, and possibly son of Altaïr.

Characteristics and personality
Altaïr is an ancestor of Desmond Miles and his memories are encoded into Miles' DNA. Abstergo Industries abducted Miles in order to use the Animus on him, which would decode his genetic structure and extract vital information from the memories of Altaïr, in a project bent on New World Order. Altaïr is a master assassin instructor, capable of extraordinary acrobatic feats, a master of social stealth, fully adept in the application of the deadly arts, and a member of the Assassins' Order.

Near the beginning of the game, Altaïr’s disregard for the Creed and subsequent failure to obtain the Piece of Eden not only lead to his severe demotion, but cost Malik his left arm, and Kadar his life. As his quest progresses Altaïr learns from the Nine, through their final words, of their justification for the deeds of which they commited and their shared allegiance to the Templar banner; his attitude changes and he becomes less impetuous, overconfident, and demanding, learning to read between the lines and perceive the actions of the world while drawing upon the teachings of the "Assassins Creed". By the end of his quest, his nature has changed completely, becoming calmer, more focused, and patient, with a higher wisdom of understanding.

Altaïr travels between the four cities – Jerusalem, Masyaf, Damascus, and Acre – to kill his victims. His extensive knowledge in the deadly arts are without question at the level of an instructor, able to infiltrate any fortification completely unnoticed, brush shoulders with a primary assassination target without alerting them to his hostile presence and strike from any direction, a testament of his undeniable mastery over "Hiding in Plain Sight", showing his understanding of the "Assassin’s Creed" and the importance of the second tenet.

Altaïr, bound by the second tenet of the "Assassins Creed" has mastered the ability to become one with the crowd, so that his deadly presence and approach is masked entirely from his intended target. His ability to blend in and appear as just another face in the crowd makes it much more possible to get in extremely close to a target and silently assassinate them using the Hidden Blade without alerting the immediate surrounding environment. Whether investigating or silently assassinating, Altaïr constantly remains anonymous out of nature, very briefly exposing himself to the public’s eye during his actual assassinations of "The Nine". Even public assassinations do not guarantee Altaïr's exposure however, as he is a Master Assassin, and is highly skilled in adapting to changing situations and the changing environment. Knowing all too well in how maintain control in the dangerous and constantly changing environment, Altaïr's possession of such sharp perception and skills carried over into how he read the crowd for any sign of danger.

Altaïr's sharp sense of awareness aided him greatly during his quest to eliminate the Templars, both within the dangerous cities, and throughout the kingdom. Altaïr's acrobatic skills also helped in both assassination and escape; he used his skills to strike from many different directions, including from affront, above, and behind, when performing his assassinations. Altaïr's assassination expertise is unquestionable; being capable of appearing from the crowd unseen, quickly killing his target silently, before outrunning any who deigned to pursue him afterwards. In preparation for his strike, Altaïr stalks the district where his target resides, obtaining information on where and when he will be, so that his blade finds it mark. Using that knowledge better prepares him for the opportune moment to strike. Observing, and moving silently about the large crowds that usually gather within the kill zone, Altaïr strikes without flaw or mercy making him very efficient in the exact moment of the strike. Highly educated upon the politics involving the Crusaders and Saracens and their religious philosophies, this educational training also helped Altaïr in better understanding their territories, and the numerous factions within. It also gave him a better perspective on why his targets choose their paths in life, although he was not above questioning that which he did not understand. He also knows that the death of his targets help to ensure peace returns to the land.

Altaïr's social mastery ensures that low-profile kills performed while hiding amongst the crowd always succeed, allowing him to eliminate any guards patrolling the streets, although as his quest progressed and his arrival predicted, this became all the more difficult. However, regardless of his anomimity, Altaïr showed that, in combination with a mastery of social stealth and tracking knowledge, blending into the crowd to becoming simply another face, allowed Altaïr to carry out his assassination target investigations more easily. In doing so, he kept to the second tenet within the Creed, which called for anomimity in all things.

Altaïr's modest clothing also allowed him to disguise himself as a scholar of the Christian faith; permitting him entrance to several areas a normal citizen was not allowed; enabling him to close in on his target without raising suspicion. A lifetime of experience and training also permitted Altaïr a keen ability to predict the alertness of those guards around him, giving him time to adjust his mannerisms accordingly.

Equipment and skills
Like his fellow assassins, Altaïr is trained in hand to hand and weapons combat, blade throwing, climbing, urban acrobatics, eavesdropping, interrogation, and pick pocketing.

Altaïr's weapon of choice for assassinations – the Hidden Blade – a weapon similar to a katara, is mounted on the inside of his left hand gauntlet, and when deployed, extends between the space left by his amputated ring finger. He flicks a trigger on his small finger to extend the blade, and does so again to retract it. Altaïr is not restricted to just the Hidden Blade however; he also uses throwing knives, a sword, and a small blade, as well as his fists when the need arises. Altaïr also uses an ability called "Eagle Vision," a sort of sixth sense that lets him see the allegiances of those around him. When activated, his vision shows his enemies in red and his allies in blue. This vision also shows those citizens with information in white and his main targets in gold.

After the events of Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, Altaïr dedicated more of his life to philosophical study – focusing upon the Piece of Eden – as opposed to actual assassination, showing himself to be a brilliant engineer and inventor. With the aid of the Piece of Eden, Altaïr was granted the foresight of advanced technological developments, which including upgrades to the Hidden Blade and the creation of a nearly impregnable, but lightweight metal that was imbued into his Master Assassin robes.

Behind the Scenes
The name Altaïr is an Arabic word, which means "The Flying One". In interviews, the game's producer, Jade Raymond has stated that while in mid-air, Altaïr's shadow resembles that of an eagle. This is because of his attire, which includes a point at the tip of his hood which resembles the beak of an eagle, and a slit down the back of his robe, resembling the tail feathers. The second part of his name, Ibn-La'Ahad means 'son of no-one', reflecting his mysterious origins.

His appearance is remarkably similar to Desmond's, with only a few scars seeming to separate their appearances at first glance, although one of their most distinctive shared features is in fact a shared scar atop their upper lip; a feature Ezio also shares.

Trivia
*Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin's Creed, revealed during an interview at the Ubidays 2007 that Altaïr was born to a Muslim father, and a Christian mother.
* Altaïr also has three different voices throughout three of the Assassins Creed games. His voice in Assassins Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles sounded a bit higher and not as deep as the original Assassins Creed game. His voice in Assassins Creed Bloodlines had more of a Middle Eastern accent than the one in the original game.
* The Altaïr costume can be unlocked for Prince of Persia (2009). Users have to register at the Ubisoft Website and then link that account to an Xbox 360 Gamertag or PSN screen name.
* Altaïr's Outfit can also be used in Assassin's Creed 2. It can be unlocked via UPlay (it's actually the Altaïr skin used during the dream). Ezio's ring finger will also vanish when this armour is worn. Additionally Ezio can still perform double assassinations, even though Altaïr's outfit only has one hidden blade.
* Altaïr's ability to blend with crowds and with scholars may seem hindered by his bright white clothes, which make him stick out, and the fact that he is heavily armed which could draw suspicion from guards, wielding a long sword and exposed throwing knives.
* In the game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the player can unlock Altaïr's costume for the main character (Old Snake). One can obtain it by either password or getting the assassin emblem on any difficulty. It is available on the second playthrough after you earn it.

Desmond Miles is the primary protagonist of the Assassin's Creed series.

Biography
Early life
Desmond was born on a assassin hideout much like Masyaf, a modern day Assassin enclave called 'The Farm', isolated and 'off the grid' as it was. Desmond was apparently supposed to be born and raised as an assassin. He was unable to leave this small community of thirty or so people, but wanted to as he believed that they were "just a bunch of hippies who wanted to fight the man." He later escapes by himself, claiming that he wanted to see the rest of the world. Desmond states that he has no regrets leaving his father or mother and at one point when Vidic accuses him of being an assassin he responds "I'm not an assassin...not anymore". At some time in his life, Desmond became a bartender. Desmond never used his real name before being taken. He used cash only, he was found from his fingerprint needed for a motorcycle license.

Assassin's Creed
The story starts off with flashes of Altaïr in an odd cloudy area which will turn out to be the garden at the back of the home base in Masyaf. After about five minutes, Desmond wakes up to find himself on top of a machine and two figures with lab coats near him. He has no recollection of getting to where he is now and is told that he is being held captive. When he questions why, the answer he receives is somewhat unbelievable.

The people in the lab coats are Dr. Lucy Stillman and Dr. Warren Vidic. They run the Animus project for Abstergo Industries. The Animus is a device used to extract genetic memory from an individual about their ancestors. According to Dr. Vidic, the memories of our past relatives are stored in our DNA.

Desmond is told that he has information that someone needs. While Desmond claims to be nothing more than a bartender, it is alluded to that he is an assassin, or at least was one at some point in the past. He seems to have the same age, weight, and height as Altaïr at the time that the Animus decodes. He also wears a white hooded-sweatshirt, similar to Altaïr's clothing. Desmond also has a scar on the right side of his face, going downwards across the lips, Altaïr also has a identical scar. You can see it if you get Altaïr to face a wall or cliff and move the camera around to see his face close up. Moreover, his ancestors were assassins. There is a specific memory in the life of his ancestor Altaïr that the Doctors are trying to access, but Desmond's subconscious mind is blocking access to the memory and they need his help to access it. If he refuses to assist them, they threaten to induce a coma, continue their work, and, when done with Desmond, leave him to die.

Without much choice, Desmond agrees to help them.

Over the next few days, Desmond is removed from the Animus several times; either to give him time to rest or as occurred at one point, because the Animus was overheating. During these periods he finds that someone has left the code for his sleeping quarter’s door in his closet, allowing him to go out into the Animus chamber alone, where he accesses Abstergo's computer system, trying to learn why he was brought there. He does this both with Stillman's access pen, that she apparently forgot, and Vidic's which he stole. He however remains unable to escape and learns nothing that makes his captives goals clear. At one point his memory viewing is interrupted by a group of Assassins who have apparently launched a rescue attempt, caught in a gun battle with Abstergo's guards. Desmond however cannot see this only hear the gunfire. Vidic later states that these Assassins were not only killed, but were the last of the Assassins, possibly as a means of demoralising Desmond; Lucy Stillman's actions, however, suggest otherwise. After accessing the target memory Abstergo’s executives order Desmond killed, but some quick thinking on Lucy’s part spares him this fate and he is ordered to be kept at Abstergo until he has no possible use to them. By this point Desmond begins to develop “the bleeding effect” (mentioned in Lucy's E-Mails as affecting previous test subjects) as he manifests Altaïr’s eagle vision allowing him to see cryptic messages written on the walls of the chamber (presumably test subject sixteen, the subject before Desmond, who is alluded to in the E-Mails) and see that Lucy Stillman is indeed his ally.

Assassin's Creed II
Spoiler
Desmond starts off Assassin's Creed II still held within Abstergo, right where we left off at the end of the first game. Lucy arrives and demands him to get into the Animus before Abstergo discovers what she's done. Desmond agrees and, inside the Animus, he experiences the birth of one of his ancestors , Ezio Auditore da Firenze due to the comparison of DNA Memory between him and Subject 16 (Which speculates they might be related). Lucy soon after pulls him out and the two attempt to escape from the Abstergo building. Along the way, Abstergo security soon finds out they're trying to leave, meaning at times they have to take action in order to avoid being captured as they escape. Also, when they start to sneak around a large office-like room, they come across a number of Animus machines along the way, and when Desmond asks Lucy about them she tells him to be silent. At the final door, a password is needed that Lucy does not have, however Desmond uses his Eagle Vision, an ability he has just acquired from the Bleeding Effect, to see fingerprints on the keypad, putting in the code soon after. The final point of the escape pits Desmond and Lucy against a group of guards at the parking lot exit. Lucy hides Desmond in the trunk of a car and she drives off to an Assassin hideout, whilst he endures the bumps on the journey.

When they arrive, the two of them meet Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, both of whom are Assassins, just like Lucy. She tells Desmond they want him to become an Assassin member, and can train him in a matter of days using the memories of Ezio. With the Bleeding effect, Ezio's skills will be passed to Desmond, making him faster, stronger, more agile and therefore become a better fighter, highly maneuverable and a key member of the Modern-day Assassin order. He accepts stating he wants revenge on what Abstergo did to him, leaving Lucy happy he wants to join as he is plugged into the Animus where his journey as Ezio, begins.

Midway through the game, Desmond is retracted from the Animus. Lucy didn't want him staying in Ezio's memories for too long, otherwise he may face the mental degradation Subject 16 had suffered. She also wants to see how much Desmond has picked up from his time as his ancestor, tasking him with initiating security protocols around the Assassin hideout. Just as he begins, however, vivid hallucinations develop as he begins seeing people from Altair's time period, around different parts of the hideout. Lucy says that if they only occur for a little while, he should be fine. Unfortunately for Desmond, at one point after finishing his task, the visions start to become more real and he is taken back to one Altair's memories, even though he isn't linked to the Animus. Here, Desmond learns of Altair having a relationship with the Templar, Maria, the decoy of Robert de Sable in the first Assassin's Creed. As Altair leaves, Desmond wonders why he isn't following him. Instead, he moves towards Maria where he enters her womb, obviously showing that Altair's child and another of Desmond's ancestors has been conceived.

During his time inside the Animus, at the end of the game a "god", Minerva, warns Desmond through Ezio of the destruction of the world. Immediately after getting out of the Animus, Lucy informs Desmond that their stronghold is under attack and she hands him a hidden blade. An old friend is introduced, as Vidic appears and says that he has come back to claim Desmond. Lucy and Desmond, now synchronized with both Altaïr and Ezio, fight off the Vidic's henchmen. His hand-to-hand combat skills are much improved from the escape from Abstergo, and he begins to show a mastery of disarming, countering, free running and climbing techniques. When Desmond finally confronts Vidic he begins to flee, but promises that their victory is only temporary. Lucy decides they must leave the safehouse and says that they have another safehouse somewhere up north. She also informs Desmond that they have the Animus onboard and he should delve back in, looking for anymore memories that may reveal more information, whilst she and the others try to analyze Minerva's warning and Subject 16's video.
Spoiler End
Trivia
*He is modeled after model Francisco Randez and voiced by Nolan North.
*Desmond possess the same scar in his mouth as his ancestors Altaïr and Ezio did.
*Desmond's clothes allude to those worn by both Ezio and Altaïr, albeit in a more modern style. He has a hood (although it is not worn over his head), and his jacket is white - similar to Altair's robes, and Ezio's clothing, which is originally referred to as "Assassin White". Concept Art of him with his hood up show that it has the "eagle-beak" shape his ancestors' clothes had.
*Desmond acquires a Hidden Blade at the conclusion of Assassin's Creed 2. The original owner of the blade is uncertain, but it shares the same design as Ezio's.
*Desmond obtains Eagle Vision from his ancestor Altaïr and his fighting and free-running skills from his ancestor Ezio through the Bleeding Effect in the Animus.
*It is likely that Lucy and Desmond will enter a relationship in Assassin's Creed III, given that Lucy cares very much about Desmond and (as seen in Assassin's Creed II) he apparently returns those feelings. For example, when Lucy panics because she is afraid that Abstergo will find them, Desmond tries very hard to comfort her.
*At times during the game, Desmond's eyes appear to be a golden yellow colour, as do Ezio's, greatly resembling the eyes of an eagle.
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad (الطائر ابن لا أحد in Arabic) is the character whom the player will play as most in Assassin's Creed, as well as the ancestor of Ezio Auditore de Firenze and Desmond Miles. His first name, "Altaïr", means 'Bird of Prey' or 'eagle' ('eagle' is also the meaning of the first name of his descendant Ezio). ==Biography==

Assassin's Creed
Altaïr is an ancestor of Desmond Miles and his memories are encoded into Miles' DNA. Abstergo Industries abducted Miles in order to use the Animus on him, which would decode his genetic structure and extract vital information from the memories of Altaïr, in a project bent on New World Order. Altaïr is a master assassin instructor, capable of extraordinary acrobatic feats, a master of social stealth, fully adept in the application of the deadly arts, and a member of the Assassins' Order. Near the beginning of the game, he is demoted to the Assassins' Rank of Novice and removed of all his equipment save for his robes. In order to regain his status, he must publicly assassinate nine men who are involved in exploiting the war hostilities in the Holy Land. However, his master, Al Mualim, isn't telling him that there is actually a tenth...
Altaïr travels between the four cities (Jerusalem, Masyaf, Damascus, and Acre) to kill his victims. His extensive knowledge in the deadly arts are without question at the level of an instructor, able to infiltrate any fortification completely unnoticed, brush shoulders with a primary assassination target without alerting them to his hostile presence and strike from any direction, a testament of his undeniable mastery over "Hiding in Plain Sight", showing his understanding of the "Assassins Creed" and the importance of the second tenet. Altaïr, bound by the second tenet of the "Assassins Creed" has mastered the ability to become one with the crowd, so that his deadly presence and approach is masked entirely from his intended target. His ability to blend in and appear as just another face in the crowd, makes it much more possible to get in extremely close to a target and silently assassinate them using the Hidden Blade without alerting the immediate surrounding environment. Whether investigating or silently assassinating, Altaïr constantly remains anonymous out of his instinctive assassins nature, remaining anonymous for Altaïr is second nature, very briefly exposing himself to the public's eye preparing (even though very rare and extremely short in length and for good reason) to strike during a public assassination of one of "The Nine", and even public assassinations do not guarantee Altaïr's exposed appearance, he is a master assassin instructor and is highly skilled in adapting to changing situations and the changing environment, knowing all too well in how to still maintain control in the constantly dangerous and changing environment, possession of such sharp perceptional skills carries over into how he reads the crowd for any slight sign of danger. Sharp sense of awareness, will aid Altaïr greatly in survival moving about the dangerous cities, and kingdom throughout the Holy Land. As stated Altaïr's acrobatic skills help in both assassination and escape, he uses these skills to strike from many different locations and directions, mainly from affront, above, and behind when performing public assassinations which have all been recorded in virtual history according to entry wound. Altaïr's assassination expertise is unquestionable, seeing how he can appear from the crowd undetected, and quickly kill anyone he focuses on silently, then blends immediately back into the crowd. During primary assassinations Altaïr clearly knows the meaning of subtlety. Altaïr stalks the district most affected by the targets corruption, obtaining information on where and when he will be so that he may plan to properly strike. Using that knowledge better prepares for the opportune moment to strike.

Observing, and moving silently about the large crowds that usually gather within the kill zone as only a "blade in the crowd". Altaïr strikes without flaw or mercy making him very efficient in the exact moment of the strike. Highly educated upon the politics involving the Crusaders and Saracens and their religious philosophies, this educational training will help Altaïr in better understanding their territories, and the numerous factions within. It will give better perspective on perhaps why men choose certain paths in life and as the Assassins better know themselves and understand not to judge their targets but embrace their perspective on what they call justifiable action, but to put it after our own philosophy of "peace in all things". For any who threaten our cause will die under the shining sun in public. Altaïr knows that when the opportune time presents itself to strike, he must not show mercy to the target for their politically sanctioned death will ensure peace returns or so our philosophy depicts it when taught. Altaïr's social mastery ensures that low-profile kills performed while hiding amongst the crowd will succeed, allowing him to eliminate any guards patrolling the streets. Altaïr is a master at anonymous travel and the silent approach, when moving about the city streets seeking out his target Altaïr moves with the crowd as the crowd, then at the moment to strike his target, he moves as a cloaked white ghost. To get caught in the crowd with Altaïr silently stalking you is imminent death. It is as if the target is lost in a heavy and thick fog shrouding a forest of death, only its a sea of people moving about in different directions until one of those sudden bumps turns out to be the sharp Hidden Blade being extended into one of your vital organs. During escape such skills come in handy for quickly seeking high ground or space between the encroaching city guard. When ranked a novice, Altaïr was ordered to start tracking his targets personally by Al Mualim. He showed that, in combination with social stealth mastery and tracking knowledge, blending into the crowd and becoming simply another face in the crowd allowed Altaïr to carry out his assassination target investigations more easily.

His social stealth expertise helps when dealing with Crusaders and Saracen guards. When moving about a city looking for a highly public figure marked for assassination one must never call for attention, it runs the risk of possibly breaking the second and third tenet within the "Assassins Creed". Altaïr is trained extensively on how to traverse the city disguised as a holy scholar. Dressing as a scholar allows the silent eagle assassin to get close enough to a target without raising suspicion before striking. Scholar robe disguises aid in assassinations due to the simple facts they happen in broad daylight within the open public for the people to witness and spread news of its happening and the disguise masks your true appearance and intentions. Never just wear a disguise be the individual it mimics, in doing so your actions carry over into the disguise even more. This disguise makes travel easier as scholars have less restraint within the cities, and applying the proper mannerisms to aide the disguise helps that much more. Through experience and instinct Altaïr keenly observes the environment remaining alert at all times to the extremely active guard presence that surrounds him.

The name Altaïr is an Arabic word, which means "The Flying Eagle". In interviews, the game's producer, Jade Raymond has stated that while in mid-air, Altaïr's shadow resembles that of an eagle. This is because of his attire, which includes a point at the front of the hood (to resemble a beak) and slits through the back of the outfit (to resemble tail feathers). The second part of his name, Ibn-La'Ahad means 'son of no-one', reflecting his mysterious origins. It has been revealed by Raymond that his father was a Muslim and his mother a Christian. His appearance is remarkably similar to Desmond's, only a few scars seeming to separate their appearances at first glance. His rebellious nature and mission failure would lead to his severe demotion, placing him on the same level as a raw initiate to the Assassin Order. That same attitude cost the life of Malik's brother (Kadar) at the beginning of the story, as well as his left arm. As the situation progresses and Altaïr listens to the final words of his assassination victims, listening to their revelations involving them and their justified corrupt deeds within the Holy Land and their cities, his attitude changes and he becomes less impetuous, overconfident, demanding, arrogant, self-centred and impatient, learning to perceive more between the lines and actions of the world while drawing upon the teachings of the "Assassins Creed". Near the end of the conflict, all of his brash and rebellious nature, has vanished behind a demeanour of calm, focused, driven, humble, more patient and higher wisdom of understanding. But with this he learns what it is the "Assassins Creed" truly means, and recommends of him as an Assassin.

A few pieces of dialogue hint that Altaïr was potentially in a relationship prior to the game with a woman named Adra, but has since become single, possibly due to the woman in question either missing or having left him (it's indicated that she left, but whether it was leaving Altaïr, or for a mission was made unclear). Although this could actually be heard Adha, which is the woman who Altaïr saves in Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, which is a prequel to Assassin's Creed. At the end of the game he finally kills Lord Basilisk, but Adha is taken away on a ship, and Altaïr vows to find her. The point of the game is to find "The Chalice", and you learn late in the game that the Chalice is actually Adha - so Altaïr does not know of her for quite some time. The fact that he had a descendant, Ezio Auditore de Firenze and later Desmond Miles, however, confirms that he did at one point of his life father a child. Based on the game's premise of genetic memory storage, this would have to have happened after the events in Assassin's Creed.

Equipment
Altaïr's most interesting weapon is the Hidden Blade--a weapon similar to a katar, which is used for close-range assassinations. It is mounted on the inside of his left hand gauntlet, and when deployed, extends between the space left by his amputated ring finger. He flicks a trigger on a ring to make the blade appear where his finger had once been. This amputation was part of the initiation for becoming an assassin of the Hashshashin sect. Altaïr also uses a combination of throwing knives, a sword, the Hidden Blade, and his fists. The throwing knives are very useful for taking down archers. Use of the sword is slower than use of the dagger, of which is fast and light and can be used in tandem with the throwing knives. However, attacking with the sword is much more damaging to the enemies than when using the dagger. Altaïr also uses an ability called "Eagle Vision," a sort of "sixth sense" that lets him see people's intentions. Guards appear in red, allies in blue, citizens with information in white and assassination targets in yellow.
