Easter eggs are intentional hidden extras found within games, that are usually jokes or references. The Assassin's Creed games have their own Easter eggs, and many other games contain Easter eggs related to the series within them.

Carl Jung
Psychologist Carl Jung is referenced throughout the series:
* The Animus is named for Jung's anima and animus.
* Women in the series such as Eve, Maria Thorpe, Maria Auditore da Firenze and Sofia Sartor (mostly wives of the male Assassins) share their names with stages of anima development, a male's inner feminine personality.
* Furthermore, in the Abstergo files, it is stated they believe their research will put an end to the debate over the existence of Jung's collective unconsciousness.
Jamal
Upon leaving Masyaf for the first time, one of the Assassins in the Kingdom, Jamal, can be silently assassinated with no consequences. However, openly attacking him will prompt the other Assassins to attack you.

Jamal is the traitor inside the order that, along with Masun, opened the gates for the Templar siege of Masyaf. He was originally featured to be a mission target to be assassinated, but the mission was cut, and he remained as a minor easter egg.
Giant Squid
A giant squid can be found within the Assassin's Tomb beneath Santa Maria Della Visitazione.

To find the Giant Squid, first pull the lever that activates the swinging poles for progressing further into the Tomb, but look down into the water near the lever for one minute instead. Once a minute or so has passed, a cutscene plays, showing a large squid swimming by.

A second cutscene can be activated if the lever is pulled once more and Ezio looks down again. The cutscene shows Ezio narrowly dodging one of the squid's tentacles, before it swims away.

Ghosts of the past
thumb|200px|Ghosts of the Past.
By downloading the Bonfire of the Vanities downloadable content, Ezio is briefly able to see a vision of his entire family.

After meeting up with Niccolò Machiavelli, return to the Palazzo Auditore and step into the center of the courtyard. Ezio will enter a mode similar to his Eagle Vision, and be able to see the figures of his parents and all of his siblings around the palazzo. The vision will disappear and will not be able to seen again if Ezio leaves, however.

Palazzo Ducale
thumb|200px|Palazzo Ducale easter egg.
After using the Super Jump or Fence glitch to get into the Palazzo Ducale, you can access the Doge's quarters where Carlo Grimaldi assassinated the Doge. The candle that Carlo Grimaldi and Doge Mocenigo were playing under is unlit, but the chess pieces are in exactly the same position, though Ezio assassinated Grimaldi years ago. After you go into these quarters, the sky and the building turn a blood red.

However, this may not be intentional, but accidental, as scenery when entering other buildings such as the Villa Auditore lighten or darken to match the interior of that building. In this case, the tone is changed to orange or red to match the interior of this specific room, thus changing the outside scenery and sky to orange and red respectively.

Dummy Keys
In the missions "Knowledge Is Power" and "Hunting the Hunter", the player may loot any of the dummy targets and find keys. The keys have no effect whatsoever in the game.

Batman
Occasionally, while freerunning or climbing a building, a male bystander can be heard saying "Another capering crusader." This is a reference to the DC Comics superhero Batman, who uses stealth and has a tendency to run on rooftops. Batman is sometimes referred to as the Caped Crusader.

Motown
When throwing coins amongst the crowd, female bystanders may cry "Money! That's what I want!", which is a reference to the classic Motown song.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Project Legacy
In the Sanctuary, if you look at one of Lucy Stillman's computer monitors, you can see the Memories menu of Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, set to the memories of Mario Auditore.

Castle Crashers
The first memory in the Castel Sant'Angelo is called "Castello Crasher." This is a reference to the PS3 and Xbox 360 downloadable game, Castle Crashers.

Grand Theft Auto
The achievement "Grand Theft Dressage" is a clear reference to the Grand Theft Auto series of games.

Metal Gear Solid
Just before reuniting with Leonardo da Vinci, Ezio will come across an anachronistic factory-made cardboard box, though he looks away when Leonardo comes around the corner. This is a reference to the Metal Gear Solid series, as the signature stealth move of Solid Snake (the series' protagonist) is to hide in a box or crate.

A second tribute is the Raiden suit, available to all who complete every challenge in the Animus Virtual Training Program with at least a bronze medal, a reference to how the character Raiden was trained in only virtual simulations.

Mario References
In the mission "Femme Fatale," after Ezio kills all the guards and drags Lucrezia, she comments "Rescuing princesses from castles now?" This is a reference to the Super Mario Bros. games where Mario rescues Princess Peach from Bowser's castle.

One of the Brotherhood achievements is entitled "Principessa in Another Castello." This translates to "Princess in Another Castle," which is what would be told to Mario in the original Mario games when he defeats Bowser's minions in their castles.

Another Mario reference is the "Plumber" achievement, which shows the picture of a Mario World Warp Pipe.

Montreal
During the memory "Trojan Horse," whilst escorting Bartolomeo d'Alviano and his Mercenaries disguised as French soldiers, a French guard asks Ezio Auditore which region of France he hails from, to which he replies "Montréal." This is likely a reference to the location of Ubisoft Montreal, the main developers of the Assassin's Creed series. Montreal is also the largest city in the French-speaking province of Quebec in Canada.

Alternatively, it could be a reference to the birth-place of Francisco Randez - the character model after whom Desmond Miles was designed.

Machiavelli's Works
Shortly after Ezio successfully enlists the help of the three other guilds, Niccolò Machiavelli asks Ezio how he had managed it. Ezio simply answers that it was "Virtù", a concept about the spirit of leadership that Machiavelli was later known to have theorized.

Also, at the end of Sequence 7, Machiavelli states that "I intend to write a book about you one day." to Ezio, who then responds with "If you do, make it short." This is clearly a reference to Machiavelli's famous (and brief) book, "The Prince."

Finally, an achievement entitled "Il Principe" (which translates to "The Prince") can be unlocked by achieving 100% Synchronization for all the memories in Brotherhood, including The Da Vinci Disappearance memories.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Monty Python
In the mission The Brawler, after having been defeated three times in a row, the encountered citizen will say "Ah... we will call it a draw, alright?"

This is a reference to the movie Monty Python And The Holy Grail, in which The Black Knight challenges King Arthur to a fight and, after both his arms and legs are cut off, says "Alright. We'll call it a draw."

Hello World
In the very first sequence, Subject 16 talks to Desmond Miles about the place in the Animus that he is currently in, Animus Island, stating that it was the test world first created by Rebecca Crane to gain a feeling for the confines of the machine. Afterwards, he proclaims "Hello World!", which is a reference to the first test program that programmers create, named a Hello World project.

DESMOND MILES

In the last mission you play as Altaïr, he is standing by an puddle. if you look at this puddle during the cutscene with Darim, you will see that his reflection is actually that of Desmond Miles.

Enemy Brother
In the first memory of Altaïr, Jamal can be seen, again viewed in red when in Eagle Vision. This first occurred in the original game, Assassin's Creed.

Muhammad Ali
Sometimes during fighting or after defeating guards, civilians may yell out "Floats like a butterfly, stings like a scorpion!" This line also occurs when random civilians want to fistfight Ezio.

Superman
There is a title in the multiplayer named Man of Steel. This is an obvious reference to DC Comics' hero, Superman, as his nickname is the Man of Steel.

Spider-Man
There is an achievement entitled "Spider Assassin" in which the player must climb the top of the Hagia Sofia in under 25 seconds. The title and achievement is a reference to the popular Marvel Comics' superhero Spider-Man, and his ability to scale (crawl) up and around buildings at a fast speed.
Pulp Fiction
In the multiplayer mode, the character, The Thespian, has a second hair style that make her look just like Mrs. Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) from the movie "Pulp Fiction", who herself was an actress in a movie called "Fox Force Five".

Prince of Persia
In the first tome of the novel, during Desmond's flashback, the Prince of Persia, the main protagonist of the famous Ubisoft series, appears on the screen of the arcade game monitor at the "L'Horizon" bar.

Assassin's Creed in other media
The characters, gameplay elements, and plot of Assassin's Creed are also featured in various other media.

Adventure Quest
In Adventure Quest, the Assassin job class has a level 10 Guardian skill called "Finishing Blow." After clicking this, it has another button called "Assassin's Creed." Additionally, the armor "Whispering Raiment" has two hidden blades on the left arm.

In AdventureQuest Worlds, there are two outfits available for purchase at the suggestion shop in Yulgar's inn, which are comprised of the "Hashashin Armor," priced at 500,000 gold for free players, and the "Armored Hashashin Armor," priced at 300,000 gold for upgraded members of the game.

The Hashashin Armor includes two hidden blades, though they are located on top of the player's wrist, rather than on the bottom.
Dead Island
In Dead Island, there is a knife named "Assassin's Greed".

Dragon Age II
Varric's crossbow is called Bianca, like Bartolomeo d'Alviano's sword. Also, the brothel in Hightown is called the "Blooming Rose," a direct translation of the Roman courtesan headquarters, the Rosa in Fiore.

Gaia Online
During the 2011 Halloween event in Gaia Online, Edmund, the shop owner for H & R Wesley, was dressed as Ezio.

Grand Theft Auto IV
After completing a set of assassination missions for a mysterious figure called the Fixer, the player will receive an achievement called Assassin's Greed, which is a direct play on the Assassin's Creed name.

Moreover, the requirement for the achievement is the completion of nine assassination missions, which parallels the first Assassin's Creed game, in which Altaïr was tasked by Al Mualim to kill nine Templars in exchange for his reinstatement as a Master Assassin.
inFAMOUS 2
Located in the fictional city of New Marais, several cinemas and theaters in inFAMOUS 2 feature movie titles that are direct puns of popular video game names. Among the movie titles was "Assassin's Need (Love Too)", a parody on Assassin's Creed. These cinemas are located in the very first district of the city.

Also, one of the negative karmic missions available in the game was named "Assassin's Greed", another play on the Assassin's Creed name.

Another Easter egg found in the game's downloadable content, inFamous 2: Festival of Blood, can be seen again on the cinemas' featured movie titles. The new parody title is "Assassin's Bleed", which is also a reference to the download content's central theme of vampires.

Invictus Games
In the iPhone games Froggy Jump and Froggy Launcher, there is a torso item called "Assassin armor," which looks just like Ezio's armor in Assassins Creed II, that can be bought for 2 Diamonds.
LittleBigPlanet
As a part of their promotion for Assassin's Creed II, Ubisoft released Ezio's Assassin Costume as a downloadable costume for the PS3 exclusive LittleBigPlanet on 8 December 2009.

On the day that Revelations was released, LittleBigPlanet released a new costume of Ezio, featuring Sackboy in the robes that Ezio starts out with in the game.

Metal Gear Solid 4
On April Fools' Day 2008, it was revealed that an Altaïr costume for Old Snake could be unlocked in the game Metal Gear Solid 4. Hideo Kojima, one of the game's creators, later announced that it was not a joke, and that the costume could really be unlocked if the player did "something special." In order to unlock the costume, the player must either acquire the "Assassin Emblem" (a nod to the game's title), or input a password in the Extras section.

The costume can be used as an alternative disguise early in-game and works exactly like the Middle East Militia costume. Unlike Altaïr's robes, the Militia costume is lost early in-game, prompting the player to find another set of the disguise, and can cause the Middle Eastern faction to be friendly to the player as opposed to having to work to gain their trust. When the costume is worn, the protagonist will bend his ring finger back to his palm, which is maintained so long as he wears the costume, consisting as a reference to Altaïr's missing ring finger.

Specifically, the password has been revealed to be aottrykmyn.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
In one of Peace Walker's missions, namely Main Ops 16, a unique box made of straw dubbed the Assassin's Straw Box can be obtained. To do so, the player must ensure there's a vacant slot in the equipment section, climb onto the roof of the shack above where the straw box is, then perform a "Leap of Faith" into it. The Leap is accompanied by an eagle's screech, similar to its mechanism in the Assassin's Creed series.

Right after you obtain the straw box, one of the main protagonists, Kazuhira Miller, will mention its use during the Third Crusade (the time period of Assassin's Creed), and how it was used by the Assassins. After the aforementioned mission is completed, the Assassin's Straw Box will be available in the inventory.

The box can hold two people simultaneously, and includes a special function not found in other box items; namely knocking out guards while hiding in the box, and recruiting the knocked-out soldier using Fulton Recovery (if another player is present). Continued use can damage the item, to the point where the box will be destroyed completely.

Similarly, in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Ezio's costume can be purchased via Uplay for 30 points.

Altaïr's Costume also can be purchased at Prince of Persia: Prodigy, via Uplay.

The Saboteur
In The Saboteur, the main protagonist Sean Devlin earns a racing car with white stripes, named Altaïr, which is nicknamed "The Flying Eagle."

Saints Row: The Third
In the sandbox game Saints Row: The Third, there is an achievement entitled "Everything is Permitted". It is awarded when one eliminates all assassination targets.

The Simpsons
In the fifth episode of season 23 of The Simpsons, "The Food Wife," besides some other game parodies, a poster can be seen in the back of the fictional games convention E4 featuring a hippie with two hidden blades and the title "Assassin's Creed - Summer of Love."
The Witcher 2
During one mission in The Witcher 2, Geralt can walk up to some haystacks underneath a structure resembling a view point, and find the body of a white-robed man, who looks suspiciously like an Assassin, that appears to have died when his Leap of Faith failed.

If the player examines the body, Geralt will say, "Hmm... Guess they'll never learn." From there, the player will be granted a hidden ability called "Assassin."

VG Cats
The VG Cats comic Stealth is required features Leo (one of the main characters) wearing Altaïr's costume, and shows him picking his nose and being stabbed with his hidden blade by accident.
Soul Calibur
The character Dampierre uses a hidden blade called Hidden Edge as his ultimate weapon.
Dungeon Defenders
The character The Archer, the male version of The Huntress for the PC, can obtain a halloween costume that looks like a black Master Assassin robe set.

Also there are mini characters, from beating the final boss, named Animus Squire/Huntress/Monk/Apprentice. These look to be like demons, which the templars base Assassins to be, and in Assassin's Creed, you enter the Animus to become an assassin.

Alvise da Vilandino was a baggage handler in Venice. He welcomed Leonardo da Vinci and Ezio Auditore da Firenze to Venice and gave them a short tour of the Rialto Bridge and the surrounding area. After touring them and welcoming Leonardo to his new workshop, he does not appear anymore in the game.

Database entry
Date of Birth: 1441

Profession: Baggage Handler

A Venetian native. Alvise worked as a baggage handler for several years, until, convinced of Venice's superiority, he enlisted in the navy. In 1500, he was tasked with defending the fortress of Modon from the Turks. After a heavy night of drinking, Alvise awoke to Turkish cannon fire bombarding the town. Panicking while running across the deck, he tripped, hit his head and drowned. When it became clear Venice had lost the battle, he was accused of negligence by the ship's captain and erased from the logs of the navy.

Trivia
*Some of the Civilians and Abstergo guards have the same face model as Alvise.
*After leading Leonardo and Ezio to the new workshop, he holds out his hand for a tip. Leonardo, unaware of this, does not give him one so he walks away, looking quite disgruntled.
*In Assassins creed Renaissance, he is called Nero.

Throughout the events of Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, and Assassin's Creed: Bloodline, the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad wielded a personal sword of superior power compared to all other weapons. The sword continues its appearence in Assassin's Creed II, and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, where it is named, the "Sword of Altaïr". However, it is now used by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a descendant of Altaïr. The blade's guard is shaped like an eagle's wings and the bottom of the hilt has the shape of an eagle's head, while the blade itself is both long and agile, making it a light and deadly weapon.

Assassin's Creed
The game starts with Altaïr using the Syrian sword, which he uses with great skill and ease, until Al Mualim demotes him to Novice for breaking all three tenets of The Creed. During his progression back into the higher ranks, he starts off with a basic sword similar to the Sword of Altaïr, though it does not have a cross guard. After he assassinates his four assigned targets, he is granted the use of his personal sword once more. He continues to uses this sword until he is finally given the Syrian sword.

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
Altaïr still possesses his sword during the events after Assassin's Creed, in Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines. In fact, his swords can now be found hanging within Kantara Castle's Great Hall (in "The Bull" stage), as ornaments. During the game, this is the only sword available for his use. In the beginning, its attack power is rather low, and enemies have to be struck with it multiple times to be killed. However, upgrades for the sword and other weapons of Altaïr can be purchased by collecting Templar coins.

Assassin's Creed II
Altaïr's Sword is available at the Monteriggioni blacksmith for 50,000ƒ (or less if the store has been renovated) after DNA Sequence 8. This sword is the most powerful melee weapon, as all three stats are maxed out. Ezio wielded this sword when he fought Rodrigo Borgia in the Vault.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Since Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood takes place directly after Assassin's Creed II, Ezio Auditore was still wielding the sword while he made his escape from the Vatican Vault into Rome with his uncle Mario. During the Siege of Monteriggioni, a cannon ball was shot through his room. As he was sleeping with Caterina Sforza at the time, he was unable to re-equip it, along with most of his armor and other weapons. However, he can re-acquire it by completing all five Assassin's Guild Challenges.

Trivia
*The guards at Masyaf are seen wielding this sword.
*It is unknown why the sword is available from the Monteriggioni blacksmith, since the sword (being Altaïr's personal weapon) would be assumed to be available together with his armor once it was unlocked.
*It is interesting to note that the picture of the weapon's hilt in the blacksmith is wrapped in leather, however, the weapon itself does not have any leather wrapping.
*After buying the sword, it may occasionally be replaced with the common sword. To properly acquire it if this occurs, simply go to the Villa's weapon rack, and re-equip it.
*After doing the training exercise in Monteriggioni, Picking Up Weapons, Ezio's sword automatically falls from it's sheath. Using this, then re-equipping the sword from the weapons rack, results in two Swords of Altaïr.
*The swords appearance is slightly altered in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, with the handle turning from bronzed color, to completely silver.
*This sword is shorter compared to the other longswords Ezio can use, with the entire sword being only a little longer than the length of his arm. Despite this, Altaïr's sword is still the strongest weapon available.
*Strangely, though Altaïr's sword is considered the best sword in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, in Assassin's Creed, the Syrian sword (which in Assassin's Creed II was among the cheapest weapons) was the best sword.
*It is interesting to note that in later memory sequences, if the player has the sword equipped, it is possible to be knocked out of Ezio's hands by Brute guards, and even picked up by an NPC. It can, however, be re-equipped in the Villa or the Tiber Island Hideout, depending on which game is being played.
*The sword appears on a weapon rack in the Tiber Island Hideout once Ezio completes all five Assassin's Guild challenges, and can only be equipped from there. Just as it did in Assassin's Creed II, it has maximum damage, speed, and deflect stats.
*Assassin Apprentices are able to use this sword once they reach the final rank of Assassino, however for them, it is called the Assassin Sword.
*During the memory Follow the Money, in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio kills and impersonates a guard named Luigi in order reach, and infiltrate, Juan Borgia the Elder's party to assassinate him, when a fellow guard draws and raises the Sword of Altaïr to "convince" the senator to hand the chest to Luigi. This is rather unusual, and unclear if intentional or rendered accidentally by the developers.
The Pistol, which is also referred to as the Hidden Gun, is one of the expansions of the hidden blade
invented by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad using the Apple of Eden. After discovering the design for it on one of the Codex pages, Leonardo da Vinci managed to craft one for the use of Ezio Auditore.

Description
The pistol consists of a small firearm with a very short barrel that, if aimed properly, can kill a target from a distance. Though an excellent weapon for assassination from afar, it will give away its user's position immediately after firing, due to its loud discharge.

Up to 6 bullets may be held at a time, and can be purchased from any blacksmith. However, they are quite expensive, as one bullet costs 175 florins (149 florins with full discount in Monteriggioni), which is three and a half times the cost of a throwing knife. Alternatively, bullets may also be obtained by looting dead guards.

Combat
The pistol takes about a second and a half to completely aim, though it can be fired before it is fully aimed. Firing immediately without aiming is not advised, as even at close range, it is highly unlikely to result in a hit.

Aiming the pistol within guards' lines of sight will automatically make them suspicious. When in combat against a small number of guards, aiming it for several seconds will also cause the group to lose morale and eventually flee, though this tactic cannot be used for Brutes.

Though not recommended, it is also possible to quickly switch to the pistol during a battle, and take a random shot from as close as possible to an enemy, before resuming the fight. Despite its low success rate, this method can potentially pick off immobile opponents, or quickly eliminate enemies without the need for counter-kills.

Advancements
In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the aiming method of the pistol has been modified, and no longer seems to require a trigger pull to be fired (an invisible mechanism similar to the hidden blade's). Though perfect aim is achieved much more quickly, the bullet can only be fired after the shot is fully charged.

Ezio also gains the ability to dual-wield the pistol alongside a medium, primary weapon, like swords and warhammers. This maps the Pistol to the sword on the weapon wheel, allowing the player to instantly aim and fire the gun anytime without selecting it specifically (so long as the sword in equipped, sheathed or not). It also allows him to easily switch between short and long ranged combat seamlessly in battle, using the pistol with his left and a sword with his right. He may also use the pistol for counters and point-blank kills at anytime during close combat, for example, Ezio can sword-counter an attacking enemy, then instantly fire the pistol on a another to kill two guards at once.

After reuniting with Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, Ezio is able to purchase an upgrade to his pistol that allows him to fire small Poison Darts from it, in addition to bullets. These darts are usable when the poison blade is equipped, and share its effects, allowing him to quietly and cleanly kill targets at a safe distance.

Codex Description
"Success! We have found a way to alter the structure of the hidden blade so that it can be used to launch small projectiles. It is capable of grievous damage – even from great distance. I confess, the means by which I came about the discovery was... risky to say the least. But I have found that in small doses, and with a focused mind, the Apple can be used without ill effect. Or so I hope.

"The knowledge of projectile combat is not new to us, having been observed amongst our Eastern neighbors. But their weapons were much larger – and insufficient for our needs. I have now found a way to miniaturize their designs, embedding their fiery weapon into a form that can be worn on the wrist.

"We have also refined the formula for combustible powder, such that common ingredients might be used. This is a dangerous bit of knowledge and it is best shared with only our closest allies..." -Altaïr in Codex Page 28.

Trivia
Assassin's Creed II
*Often when the pistol is fired, a dog can be heard barking. Though not a surprise as dogs tend to bark at loud noises, no dogs are seen or mentioned in the game.
*Both the pistol and throwing knives are disabled in the Secret Locations that require the player to chase an Agile.
*The pistol does not kill in a single shot during the battles with either Dante Moro and or Rodrigo Borgia, though it is just as effective as usual when the player is required to assassinate them.
*Due to its interconnectivity with Assassin's Creed II, it is possible to obtain a variant of the pistol that fires throwing knives instead of bullets in Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
*The pistol is also a multiplayer ability for multiplayer characters; though it is unknown if they actually possessed the weapon, or if Abstergo simply added the ability in the Animus.
*Four additional bullet slots for a total of ten slots can be purchased for 30 Units on Uplay.
*For reasons unknown, counter-attacks and executions do not use up bullet ammunition. Although this may be due to the fact that the use of the pistol is automatic in the counter attacks and thus it would be harsh for it to use ammunition as the play has no control over it.
*During a kill-streak, the player can hold down the attack button while targeting an opponent, causing Ezio to perform an automatic double kill with his sword and pistol, using up ammunition in the process.
*The sound of the pistol more closely resembles that of a musket, rather than the cannon-like sound in Assassin's Creed II.
*The Assassin Apprentices' pistols (obtained by rank 5) use the same firing sound as heard in Assassin's Creed II.
*Strangely, the apprentices' pistols are much weaker than Ezio's, taking up to three shots to kill a guard; though this may be attributed to Ezio being more skilled in aiming the pistol at vital body parts.

Borgia towers are large towers set up by the Borgia in desirable locations all throughout Rome, used to spread their influence throughout the various districts of this city. To deny the Borgia, supreme control over the entire city, Ezio Auditore da Firenze must kill the Borgia Captain assigned to each tower, and then burn down the tower itself before performing a leap of faith to escape the flaming wreck. When facing a Borgia Captain, he may either flee towards the tower, or face Ezio in combat. If a Captain is allowed to flee to the tower, Ezio must wait until the Captain regroups with his soldiers at the next guard shift before he can strike again. The towers also function as view points for the surrounding area.

Once Ezio has destroyed a Borgia tower, it will function as an Assassin Tower, allowing Ezio to manage his guild at that location. Also, for each tower destroyed, Ezio is able to recruit one more potential assassin into the guild. After a Borgia tower is destroyed, the district around it will appear much more livelier. Crime will decrease, as bandits will start to leave and the number of guards in that area will decrease. Citizens will have a more prominent presence in that specific area, and shops in that area will also become purchasable.
Trivia
*Borgia towers are surrounded by many crows, whereas view points are circled by a single eagle, one of the symbols of the Assassins.
*If a Borgia Captain escapes, the player may quit the game and reload their save position to make the Captain 'reappear' instead of waiting 12 in-game hours.
*If you kill a Borgia Captain and die before burning the Borgia Tower (falling from a high building for example) you'll have to go through the process of killing him again.
*When the final Borgia Tower becomes accessible, the Borgia captain will be on top of the tower. If you send your apprentices to assassinate him, they'll appear as if they've teleported and kill him, but stand still until they're out of sight, even when the tower is burning.
*All Borgia Captains with the last name "da Siena" will flee.
*Burning a Borgia Tower will automatically activate its view point, saving the player the effort of having to activate it separately.
*The crossbow will not kill a Borgia Captain with one shot. The pistol, however, will do so.
*After the destruction of a Borgia tower, Vigilantes appear to assist Ezio and hold back guards.
*The consept of Borgia Tower will return in Assassin`s Creed Revelation.thumb|300px|right| Burning A Borgia Tower
Upon leaving Masyaf for the first time, one of the Assassins in the Kingdom is marked as an enemy (glowing red when seen through Eagle Vision). He can be silently assassinated with no consequences, but openly attacking him will prompt the other Assassins to attack you.

This Assassin is actually Jamal, the traitor inside the order that, along with Masun, opened the gates for the Templar attack at Masyaf. He was originally set to be a mission target to be assassinated, but the mission was cut, and the character remained as a minor Easter Egg.
Mario
300px|right
At the beginning of the third sequence, Ezio's Uncle says "It's-a-me! Mario!" which is a reference to Super Mario Bros. To further support this is Mario Auditore's Italian nationality, like Mario of Super Mario Bros.
Giant Octopus
A giant octopus can be found in the Assassin's Tomb of Santa Maria Della Visitazione. The octopus appears before and after activating the lever that brings out the bars used to traverse the final chamber.

To find the giant octopus, you must look down into the water near the lever for one minute. Once a minute or so has passed, a cutscene plays, showing a large octopus swimming by. A second cutscene can be activated if the player pulls the lever and looks down again. The cutscene shows Ezio narrowly dodging the octopus's tentacle, before it swims away.

Altaïr's Outfit
right|thumb|300px
Altaïr's outfit from Assassin's Creed can be unlocked via Uplay by purchasing it for 30 points. It does not add or change any stat points for Ezio. It can also be worn in conjunction with any cape, allowing the player to wear the Altaïr outfit and still maintain 0% notoriety with the Medici or Venetian Capes. A glitch here is that, when used with the double blades, Ezio makes the movement with his right hand though no blade appears. The same glitch is present in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood with outfits such as Altaïr's Robes, Desmond, Raiden and Florentine Noble Attire (last of which has no hidden blade on either wrist).

Ghosts of the Past
thumb|300px|left
After downloading the Bonfire of the Vanities DLC, Ezio is briefly able to see a vision of his whole family. After meeting up with Niccolò Machiavelli, return to Palazzo Auditore and step into the center of the courtyard. Ezio will enter a mode similar to his Eagle Vision, and be able to see the figures of his parents and all of his siblings around the palazzo. Once you leave, the vision will disappear and you will not be able to see it again. (The vision cannot be viewed if you have completed Bonfire of the Vanities, so make sure to do this beforehand).

Palazzo Ducale
thumb|300px|right|Palazzo Ducale Easter Egg
After using the Super Jump or Fence glitch to get into the Palazzo Ducale, you can access the Doge's quarters where Carlos Grimaldi assassinated the Doge. The candle that Carlos Grimaldi and the Doge were playing under is unlit, but the chess pieces are in the exact same position, though Ezio assassinated Grimaldi, years ago (this is most likely an oversight). After you go into these quarters the sky and the building turn a blood red.

However, this may not be intentional, but accidental, as scenery when entering other buildings such as the Auditore Villa lighten or darken to match the interior of that building. In this case, the tone is changed to orange or red to match the interior of this specific room, thus changing the outside scenery and sky to orange and red respectively.

Dummy Keys
In the mission "Knowledge Is Power", the player may loot the dummy target and find keys. The keys have no effect whatsoever in the game.

Batman
Occasionally, while freerunning or climbing a building, a male bystander can be heard saying "Another capering crusader.", a reference to the DC Comics superhero Batman who uses stealth and has a tendency to run on rooftops. Batman is sometimes referred to as the Caped Crusader.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
One of the achievements/trophies is titled "Sanctuary! Sanctuary!" The same words were shouted by Quasimodo when he carried Esmeralda into the cathedral under the law of sanctuary in order to prevent her execution.

Project Legacy
In the Sanctuary, if you look at one of Lucy's Monitors, you see the Memories menu of Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy, currently at Mario Auditore.

Castle Crashers
The first memory in the Castel Sant'Angelo is called Castello Crasher. When the word Castello is translated into English, we get the title Castle Crashers, which is close to the PS3 and Xbox 360 downloadable game, Castle Crashers.

Solid Snake
Just before meeting Leonardo da Vinci for the first time in the game, Ezio will come across a factory-made cardboard box that is completely unsuitable for the era; though he looks away when Leonardo comes around the corner. This is a reference to the Metal Gear Solid series, as Solid Snake's (the series' protagonist) signature stealth move is to hide in a box or crate.

Raiden
A second Metal Gear Solid tribute is the Raiden suit, available to all who complete every challenge in the Animus Virtual Training Program with at least a bronze medal.

Mario References
One of the achievements/trophies in Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is titled "Principessa in Another Castello." This translates to Princess in Another Castle, which is what would be told to Mario in the original Mario games when he defeated Bowser's minions in their castles.

Another Mario reference is the Plumber achievement, which shows the picture of a Warp Pipe.

Montreal
During one of the memories in Sequence 6, whilst escorting Bartolomeo d'Alviano and his Mercenaries disguised as French soldiers, a French guard asks Ezio Auditore which region of France he hails from, to which he replies "Montreal." This is likely a reference to Ubisoft Montreal, the main developers of the Assassin's Creed series. Alternatively, it could be a reference to the birth-place of Francisco Randez - the character model after whom Desmond Miles was designed.

It should be noted that Ubisoft Montréal is located in Montreal, a city in Canada (province of Québec), not France. However, there is also a small village in France, called Montréal, that existed before Jacques Cartier found the island on which Montréal lies today.

Machiavelli's Works
Shortly after Ezio successfully enlisted the help of the three other guilds, Machiavelli asked Ezio how he had managed it. Ezio simply answered that it was "Virtù," a concept about the spirit of leadership that Machiavelli was later known to have theorized.

Additionally, at the end of Sequence 7, Machiavelli stated that "I intend to write a book about you one day" to Ezio, who then responded with "If you do, make it short." This is clearly a reference to Machiavelli's notoriously short book, "The Prince."

Assassin's Creed in other media
The stories and characters of Assassin's Creed are not only featured in the official video games, but in other media as well.

Grand Theft Auto IV
After completing a set of assassination missions for a mysterious figure called the Fixer, the player will receive an Achievement/Trophy called Assassin's Greed which is a direct play on the Assassin's Creed name. Moreover, the requirement for the Achievement/Trophy is the completion of 9 assassination missions, which parallels the first Assassin's Creed game, in which Altair was tasked by Al Mualim to kill 9 men in exchange for his reinstatement as a Master Assassin.

LittleBig Planet
As a part of their promotion for Assassin's Creed II, Ubisoft released a downloadable costume for the PS3 exclusive LittleBig Planet, Ezio's "Purple Assassin" Costume on December 8, 2009.
On April Fools' Day 2008, it was revealed that an Altaïr costume for Old Snake could be unlocked in the game Metal Gear Solid 4. Hideo Kojima (from Konami, the creators of Metal Gear Solid 4) later announced that this was no joke, and that the costume would really be unlocked if the player did "something special." In order to unlock the costume, the player must either acquire the "Assassin Emblem" (a nod to the game's title), or input a password in the Extras section.

The costume can be used as an alternative disguise early in-game, and can keep the player from gaining any unwanted attention. When the costume is put on, the protagonist will bend his ring finger back to his palm, which is maintained so long as Snake wears the costume. This is a nod to Altaïr's missing ring finger.

The password has been revealed to be aottrykmyn
In Prince of Persia (2008), Altaïr's costume is available as a free DLC for use by The Prince. Additionally, an achievement entitled "Assassin's View" can be unlocked by standing on a View Point upon the Martyr's Tower.

Similarly, in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Ezio's costume can be purchased via Uplay for 30 points.
In one of the game's missions (namely Main Ops 16) a unique box made of straw dubbed the Assassin's Straw Box can be obtained. To do so, the player must ensure there's a vacant slot in the equipment section, climb onto the roof of the shack above where the straw box is, then perform a "leap of faith" into it. The "leap of faith" is then accompanied by an eagle's screech, similar to its mechanism in the Assassin's Creed series.

Right after you obtained the straw box, one of the main protagonists, Kazuhira Miller, will mention its use during the Third Crusade (the time period of Assassin's Creed) and how it was used by the Assassins. The box can hold two people simultaneously and allow a special function which other box items don't have, which is knocking out guards while hiding in the box (and if another player is present, recruit the knocked-out soldier using Fulton Recovery). Continued use can damage the item, to the point where the box will be destroyed completely.

After the aforementioned mission is completed, the Assassin's Straw Box will be available in the inventory.
