The only reason I ask is that the suffix 'da Firenze' would imply that he (and his brother Giovanni, for that matter) is from Firenze (Florence) when he isn't. Italian surnames of this period did not conform to modern ideas of a son having exactly the same name as his father so Giovanni (who, as I alluded before is not, I think, from Florence originally) would have named his son after the city of his birth.
