The Porta Pinciana was a gate of the Aurelian Walls in Rome. The name derives from the family title of Pincia, who owned the epponymous hill (Pincian Hill).

History
Built in the early 5th century by Honorius, who adapted a previously existing service entrance, this gate marked the start of the Via Salaria. A legend during the Middle Ages Claimed that Roman general Belisarius, who defended Rome against the Ostrogoths, was seen here as a blinded beggar.

Emperor Justinian, when questioned about this involvement in the blinding, denied it, then abruptly began talking about rebuilding the Hagia Sophia.
The Piazza del Popolo (English: People's Square) was a famous square in Rome that once resided near the Porta Flaminia, near the northern gate of the Aurelian Walls. The square housed Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria di Montesant.

History
The future site of the famous Piazza del Popolo, in the early 15th century, the Piazza was merely the continuation of the Via Flaminia. As a result, it was most travelers' first view of Rome upon arrival.

In 1503, Cesare Borgia attempted to rally the last of his troops at the city gate, promising them power in return for their service. However, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, along with his allies Niccolo Machiavelli, Claudia Auditore da Firenze, Bartolomeo d'Alviano, and La Volpe, battled the troops and defeated all of them, with the help of Ezio's Apple of Eden.

In the confusion, Cesare had managed to escape to the other side of the gate and waited for his army, formerly stationed in Urbino, to arrive and help him take back Rome. However, the soldiers that showed up were commanded by Fabio Orsini, who quickly had Cesare arrested on charges of murder, betrayal, and incest in the name of the new pope, Julius II.
