The British Army was the land warfare branch of the Monarch of Great Britain's British Armed Forces in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 1707 with the Act of Union.

Following Great Britain's triumph over the Kingdom of France in the French And Indian (Seven Years') War, ending in 1763, the soldiers of the British army were thought to be the best in the western world.

The superior discipline, skill-at-arms, equipment, organization, well-tailored uniforms, and reputation of the British army were major sources of intimidation to the initially amateurish soldiers of the Continental Army during the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783.
Trivia
* The soldiers of the British Army were often referred to as 'Red Coats' or 'Lobster-backs' during the American Revolution due to the scarlet jackets that distinguished their uniforms from those of other European armies.
* The British fielded armies that consisted mostly of infantry during the American War of Independence; each regiment of infantry consisting of two or more 'line' or 'battalion' companies (standard infantrymen), one 'light' company (skirmishers), and one 'Grenadier' company (heavy-hitting veterans). Despite the unreceptive North American terrain, the British high command did their best to utilize cavalry (horsemen) and artillery (cannons) against the revolutionary forces as well.

Arms and Equipment
The British infantryman of the 18th century was armed with the standard British Army smooth-bore flintlock musket, affectionately known as a "Brown Bess", and a fifteen inch socket bayonet which could be locked onto the end of the "Brown Bess" musket's barrel. British soldiers were drilled in the uses of these primary weapons until they could load and fire their muskets with their eyes closed. A well-trained infantryman could average about four shots per minute from his musket, the sub-par soldier, perhaps three.

British officers usually armed themselves with flintlock pistols and sabres, although it was not unknown for light infantry officers to carry their own musket, or even a rifle, as the war progressed.

The Siege of Masyaf was a direct result of the disastrous assassin's mission to recover the Apple at Solomon's Temple from the hands of the Templars. Robert de Sable, seeking the artifact and tired of the Order's interruption in Templar affairs, besieged Masyaf in an attempt to destroy the Brotherhood.

Defending the Village
After Altaïr arrived back from the temple confessing his failure, and Malik handed over the treasure, Malik revealed that Robert de Sable was on his way to the Masyaf. Several invaders were already inside the village, and Altaïr was ordered to drive them out. As he left the fortress he met up with Rauf, who requested for his aid. Rauf asked Altaïr to distract the Templars, while he would help his men move civilians inside the fortress. Afterwards Altaïr ran down through the village and protected it as best as he could. Villager's were beaten and executed by Templars, only adding to the panic as assassins fought Templar knights. After defending the village, Altaïr returned back the fortress with the others.

No Fear!
Back inside the fortress, Rauf told Altaïr to follow him to the top of the tower, where he waited on a platform extending from the top of the tower. Altaïr witnessed Robert de Sable and his army finally arrive at the fortress gates, trying to force Al Mualim to surrender. Robert threatened he would let the village starve and executed a hostage, to intimidate Al Mualim. However this had no effect on the master of the Assassins. Al Mualim shouted back that his men were not afraid of death; they welcomed it. Robert provoked Al Mualim more, asking him to show evidence of this. Altaïr and the other assassins delivered it to him by taking a leap of faith from the tower, and appearing to throw themselves into the deep ravine. Altaïr and Rauf were successful in their leaps, and landed safely in haystacks, however the third assassin badly broke his leg. Rauf requested Altaïr to proceed without him. Over long logs of wood, Altaïr crawled his way over the gorge, high above him were the cliffs that towered over the river. Once he reached the second tower, he climbed upwards, to get inside. There he cut through a rope, which held back a huge pile of large tree logs together. Once released, they rolled down, crushing much of Robert de Sable's army, driving him away.

Aftermath
After driving off De Sable, the Order started to repair the damages done to the village, as well as to collect the dead bodies of their brethren. Al Mualim gave recognition to Altair for stopping the attacking Templar, but also berates him, for he was the very reason for why the Templars came in the first place. Al Mualim lectures Altair in front of his Assassin comrades and stabs him with a blade, saying that "...(he) cannot let a traitor live".
Biography
Background
At the beginning of Assassin's Creed, Richard and his army have just taken the port city of Acre. His ultimate goal is to lead his army into the city of Jerusalem so that he can free the holy land in the name of the Christian faith.

With a base of operations established in Acre, the Crusaders prepare to march south. However, Saladin, leader of the Islamic army, currently rules the city of Jerusalem. Stinging from his army’s defeat at Acre, he will not allow Richard to humiliate him again. The Muslim forces are massing in the ruins of Arsuf, intending to ambush the Crusaders and prevent them from reaching Jerusalem. These war maneuvers have left the rest of the Holy Land wide open. While Richard and Saladin battle one another, the men left to govern in their stead have begun taking advantage of their new found positions of power. Exploitation, manipulation, and provocation rule the day.

Richard is compeltely unaware of his men's intensions by being so involved in this war against Saladin. Richard's only goal is to reclaim the holy city of Jerusalem in the name of God and for Christains. When he argues with William, he reminds him that he made a promise to God to fight for the Crusader army.

Assassin's Creed
King Richard appears in the first Assassin's Creed as the leader of the Crusader Army who is fighting Saladin in the Holy Land, and has decided to attempt to take back Jerusalem for Christianity. Several of his lieutenants are Robert de Sable, Grand Master of the Templars , Garnier de Naplouse, Grand Master of the Hospitaliers, William of Montferrat, Regent lord of Acre and Sibrand, Grand Master of the Knights Teutonic.

Richard the Lionheart makes a brief appearance during two missions in the game. First when he is seen arguing with William, and then, near the end of the game at Arsuf, where he personally confronts Altaïr. He was unaware of the Templars' plan to betray him by using the Piece of Eden and conquering the Holy Land in the Templar name. After Altaïr had assassinated everyone but Robert, Robert attempted to convince Richard to ally himself with Saladin against the Assassins, their common enemies. Altaïr learned of Robert's plans and personally rode to Arsuf to tell Richard of the Templars' betrayal. After a fierce battle with Saracen and Crusader soldiers, he found King Richard, Robert and other elite soldiers of the army. When Altaïr told the king of Robert's treason and Robert denying it, Richard didn't know who to trust after Altaïr asked Richard if he was actually truly surprised by his subjects' plan of betrayal: he wasn't, but he still didn't trust Altaïr. So he let "the Lord" decide who was the one who told the truth, by letting Altaïr and Robert fight each other to see which one has "God's support". Altaïr's efficiency with the Hidden Blade proved superior to the Templars sword skills, and King Richard believed him after. They discussed with each other about the politics and philosophy of war and peace, in which Richard told Altaïr he wasn't ready for peace with Saladin yet, before Altaïr went back to Masyaf to combat Al Mualim.

Characteristics and personality
Richard is a man strong in faith, and relies on God for crucial decisions. He, however, seems tolerant towards non-believers, as Altaïr denying the help of God over his victory against Robert did not trouble him.

However, Richard is a strong military leader, and isn't afraid to use his sword to answer his problems. Richard scored a major victory for Crusader army by capturing the city Acre. Later, towards the end of the game, Richard is to do battle against Saladin at the Battle of Asruf. When confronted by Altaïr about Robert's betrayal, he relys on God to help decide who to believe. He decides the best way to believe which one is telling the truth, decides the decision will be made in combat. "Surely God will side with one whose cause is righteous!"

Richard believes that mankind cannot ever change; "We enter this world kicking and screaming. Violent and unstable from birth, that permanent peace is impossible though we all wish it". In his mind, the only way for him to bring peace is tof his men to crush the enemy: Saladin and the Saracen. Richard was given the name "Lionheart" because of his kindess to his prisoners and because he was fierce in combat. Some his men said "He fought like an uncaged lion."
You too must learn to blend like us; seen, but unseen.
The Courtesans are one of the three factions of Assassin's Creed II helping the main character Ezio (the other two being the Thieves and the Mercenaries. Led by Paola, whose brothel is located in Florence, and by Sister Teodora, who is situated in Venice.

The courtesans can help Ezio by surrounding him which let him walk the streets unnoticed. Courtesans are very useful when trying to steal codex pages, or treasures inside banks as guards don't notice Ezio after the Courtesans seduce them. However, courtisans are not recomended to be used for long distances for guards will eventually pass by and pull two Courtesans automatically to them, making it harder for Ezio to blend. Keep in mind that they are slower than Ezio, are useless in fights (except as one-hit-cannon-fodder), and cannot perform any form of parkour.

Functions
*They help Ezio learn how to blend in.
*They can help fight guards with daggers when Ezio is attacked, though they go down very easily.
*They can be used to distract guards.
*Guards walking by Ezio can take two of the four Courtesans he has hired without notice. Two courtesans is still enough to distract any number of guards as long they are grouped to each other.

Achievement
You can win an achievement/trophy, "Red Light Addict", by spending 5000 florins on them. One group of courtesans costs 150 florins. Therefore, you need to hire at least 34 groups to get it.

Trivia
*All ordinary courtesans are barefoot.
*Courtesans were used to assassinate Silvio Barbarigo's uncle.
*A glitch found while running around outside of Forlì - it seems that if one of the courtesans becomes stuck, separated from the group, and left behind, but does not officially leave the group as when distracting guards, the remaining three courtesans will not activate any blending effects when surrounding Ezio until he approaches the lost courtesan's perimeter and again enters the 'middle' of the group.
*Also, courtesans' swimming seems to be on par with that of Altaïr - if knocked into the water, a courtesan will scream on the way down, and then fail to reemerge. The remaining three courtesans will continue to activate the blending effect without her, indicating that the death of the one courtesan is similar to when two leave the group to distract passing guards, leaving the other two alone to cover Ezio.
