The House of Barbarigo was a Venetian noble family during the late 15th century. Several members of the family, including Emilio, Marco, and Silvio Barbarigo, pledged their allegiances to the Templar Order, as did some of their allies.

History
As early as 1476, the Barbarigo family had been affiliated with the Templars, with members of the family regularly attending Templar meetings in Rome. During one of these meetings, they expressed worry over the Assassin Giovanni Auditore da Firenze.

The Barbarigo remained with the Templars after the execution of Giovanni Auditore and two of his sons, Federico and Petruccio, and following the failure of the Pazzi family to overthrow Lorenzo de' Medici of Florence and take control of it, the family was involved in the plot to take control of Venice, instigated by the Grand Master of the Order, Rodrigo Borgia.

Despite the death of Emilio Barbarigo in 1485, at the hands of Ezio Auditore, the son of Giovanni, the Barbarigo family remained steadfast. That same year, following the assassination of Doge Giovanni Mocenigo by the Templar Carlo Grimaldi, Marco Barbarigo assumed the title of Doge; a point of much contention among his fellow Templars.

With Venice under Templar control, the Barbarigo family was able to utilize the entire city's vast resources in their mission to find an Apple of Eden.

Their joyous time was short-lived however, as Marco was assassinated during the Carnevale, subsequently being replaced by his brother Agostino, a friend of the Assassins. Not long afterwards, Ezio sided with the Venetian Mercenaries Guild and assaulted the city's military district, which had remained under the control of Silvio and his servant Dante Moro.

As the leader of the mercenaries, Bartolomeo d'Alviano distracted the Templar soldiers, Ezio managed to sneak into Arsenale di Venezia and eliminate Silvio and Dante, seemingly ending the Templar presence in Venice.
We are the Auditore da Firenze. We are Assassins.
The House of Auditore was a noble family of the Italian city of Florence. Its prominence in history was relatively short, lasting approximately one to two hundred years.

History
During the late 13th century, the family that would become known as the Auditore lived in the outskirts of Venice. Either around or after 1296, Domenico Auditore was inducted into the Assassin Order, under the tutelage of Dante Alighieri.

After Dante's death, Domenico was tasked with the duty of hiding Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's Codex in Spain, but was ambushed at sea by Templar pirates. With only his son remaining, he used the bank account given by Marco Polo to impersonate a nobleman in Florence. There, he took vocal lessons, studied architecture and the classics and adopted the Auditore name. The family continued to pose as a noble house to conceal their true Assassin identities.

He then constructed a villa in the town of Monteriggioni, hunted the Templars, and trained his son in how to fight them and collect the Codex pages. Before his death, he left the origins of the family engraved on stone plates in the family crypt hidden beneath Monteriggioni.

Florence
Over the years, the family gained in prominence, even becoming a close ally of the Medici dynasty, the rulers of Florence. However in 1476, approximately 170 years after its creation, the Auditore family collapsed, victims of a conspiracy led by Rodrigo Borgia, Grand Master of the Templar Order, Uberto Alberti, a close friend of Giovanni Auditore da Firenze before he betrayed the Auditore family to the Templars, and the Pazzi family, enemies of the Auditore and secretly Templars. They were considered as traitors of the Republic and excluded from the nobility.

Monteriggioni
Most of the male members of the family in Florence were executed, leaving only Claudia, Maria and Ezio Auditore da Firenze remaining. After the execution, they took refuge in Monteriggioni under the protection of their uncle and ruler of Monteriggioni, Mario Auditore, a condottiero with an army of mercenaries at his disposal to fight against the Templars in the region.

As Giovanni's only remaining son, Ezio took on his work and sought vengeance against those responsible for the death of his father and brothers. He contributed in restoring the villa and the city of Monteriggioni, as well as adopting the rule of Monteriggioni from his uncle.

Later history
It is unknown how many individuals bore the name of Auditore after the events of the Renaissance period, as most of the information about the Auditore family was erased from history by the Templar conspiracy, and the name itself was most likely lost over the centuries. The Auditore lineage extended to two known descendants of Ezio Auditore in the 21st century; Desmond Miles and Clay Kaczmarek.
Trivia
*"Auditore" is an Italian word meaning "auditor". An auditor is a person who maintains financial accounts of a business, which was likely a reference to the family's work in banking.
*The Auditore identified themselves as Roman Catholic, but certain members of the family were also Atheism. Mario stated that he was "never much of a believer" during his mention of the villa chapel to Ezio, while Maria could be seen praying in her room.
**Additionally, in the novelization, Maria and Claudia spent their time in a convent instead of Monteriggioni, with Claudia almost becoming a nun.
*As soon as Ezio was born, his father told him that he was an Auditore and he was a fighter, hinting at the family's Assassin background.
*If the Palazzo Auditore was visited during the Bonfire of the Vanities downloadable content, Ezio could see his family as a loving memory.

The House of Pazzi was a familial group of Tuscan nobles who owned banks throughout the Italian city of Florence during the 15th century. Affiliated with the Templars, the Pazzi family became infamous for their failed attempt to gain control of the city through a conspiracy to murder its rulers, the House of Medici.

History
Plotting the Conspiracy
Less powerful rivals of the Medici, the Pazzi family, along with Rodrigo Borgia, the Grand Master of the Templar Order, planned a conspiracy to overthrow the Medici by killing the family's most prominent members, Lorenzo de' Medici and Giuliano de'Medici.
The Conspiracy
In 1476 Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, Lorenzo's close friend and a member of the Assassin Order, discovered the involvement of the Pazzi family in a conspiracy against the Medici. Moving to forestall this, Giovanni managed to have Francesco de' Pazzi put in jail. However, the plot had already reached members of the Medici government itself. Uberto Alberti, the Gonfaloniere of Justice, freed Francesco, and executed Giovanni for treason alongside his sons Federico and Petruccio, removing the Auditore family from Florence.

With Giovanni dead, there was no barrier between the Pazzi and control of Florence, until Ezio, Giovanni's only surviving son, decided to avenge his family's murder. Joining with his uncle Mario Auditore da Firenze and his mercenaries, Ezio infiltrated San Gimignano. There he witnessed a meeting between the Pazzi family and Rodrigo Borgia. During the ensuing battle between the mercenaries and Pazzi forces, Ezio killed his brash and aggressive rival Vieri de' Pazzi, the youngest of the Pazzi conspirators.

The Battle at the Duomo
In 1478, Ezio returned to Florence to spy on the Pazzi as they were meeting with other Templars in the catacombs under the Santa Maria Novella church. It was in this meeting that they planned the assassinations of both Lorenzo de' Medici and his brother Giuliano de' Medici. Among the conspirators were Stefano da Bagnone, Bernardo Baroncelli, Francesco Salviati, Antonio Maffei, Jacopo de' Pazzi and Francesco de' Pazzi. Rodrigo Borgia led the meeting and informed the conspirators that they had been given "spiritual" and military support from Pope Sixtus IV.

The next day, the conspirators executed their plan. They publicly attacked the Medici brothers in front of the Duomo with Francesco and Bernardo brutally stabbing Giuliano to death. At the same time, Stefano and Antonio severely wounded Lorenzo, but fled when he drew his sword. Francesco and others continued to attack Lorenzo, but withdrew when Ezio Auditore da Firenze intervened. Lorenzo was forced to retreat to his Palazzo, while Pazzi forces engaged Medici loyalists in earnest.

Francesco gained control of the Palazzo della Signoria, but Medici forces continued to resist. Meanwhile, Ezio fought his way to the roof of the palazzo and confronted Francesco. Francesco fled immediately, but was pursued over the city's rooftops, hunted down, and killed by Ezio.

The Conspiracy's Failure
When Jacopo arrived at the Palazzo with the support of many Florentine citizens, it was far too late; Francesco's naked corpse had already been hung from the roof, causing the panicked Jacopo to flee the city on horseback. After their plot failed, the conspirators fled Florence to hide in the city of San Gimignano and in the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Despite this, Ezio hunted down and slew all of the conspirators. Jacopo went to plead his case to Rodrigo Borgia, meeting him covertly in an ancient Roman theatre, but was instead fatally wounded and used as bait to trap Ezio. Ezio fought his way out of the trap and ended Jacopo's suffering, and the Pazzi family with it. With its ruling family gone, San Gimignano was taken over by the Medici.

With the rule of the Medici, Lorenzo stripped the Pazzi family from everything and threw them into prison, even those who played no part in the conspiracy.

Trivia
*The term pazzi is a plural of Italian pazzo, which translates to either "crazy, fool, or madman" in English.
*Historically, the Pazzi family had members fight in the First Crusade during the Siege of Jerusalem, the first Christian soldier to climb over the walls of Jerusalem was Pazzo Pazzi, an ancestor of the 15th century family members.
*The Pazzi's personal guards were the only guards to patrol Florence until Sequence 4. However, Medici guards did not appear in Florence from 1476 until 1478 even though the Medici were in power.
**The Pazzi guards were recognizable by their black, red and gold clothes.
*Francesco de' Pazzi was the only non-Assassin to perform a Leap of Faith in Assassin's Creed II, and can be difficult to pursue due to his exceptional freerunning abilities.
*There was also an unnamed member of the Pazzi family, Francesco de' Pazzi's cousin, whom Ezio assassinated during a contract in Venice. It is unknown whether he was involved in the conspiracy or a member of the Templar Order.
*In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance it was stated that the Pazzi emblem was two dolphins on a blue background, as historically accurate, whereas in Assassin's Creed II, it is shown as two dolphins on a red background.
*In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Ezio briefly sung a song about Vieri and Francesco de' Pazzi's deaths while masquerading as a minstrel.
The House of Medici was a prominent family in the Italian city of Florence during the late 15th century. Lorenzo de' Medici was the head of the house, and a close ally of the Auditore family, and their Assassin connections. Due to their de facto control of Florence during this period, they were subject to a major Templar attack.

History
Origin
The Medici family came from the agricultural Mugello region, north of Florence, being mentioned for the first time in 1230. The origin of the name Medici is uncertain, although Medici is the plural for Medica, a doctor.

Successful generations
Throughout a great part of the 15th century, Cosimo de' Medici, followed by Piero de' Medici, and lastly Lorenzo de' Medici ruled over Florence. Cosimo Medici, whose power stemmed from his vast wealth, ruled over Florence until his death in 1464, when he was succeeded by his son, Piero.

Piero's reign was short, spanning only five years before he succumbed to gout. After Piero, Lorenzo became the head of the Medici family. Like his grandfather and father, Lorenzo ruled Florence, through surrogates in the city councils, threats, payoffs, and strategic marriages. The Medici under Lorenzo were great patrons of arts and culture, and with his rule, Florence became the center of culture and innovation.

The Pazzi conspiracy
In 1478, while attending High Mass, Lorenzo and his brother, Giuliano, were attacked by members of the Pazzi family and their allies, in an event that would later be known as the Pazzi Conspiracy. Although the conspirators managed to kill Giuliano, Lorenzo was saved by Ezio Auditore, who then returned Lorenzo to his home. Once there, Lorenzo instructed Ezio to kill the main conspirator, Francesco de' Pazzi. After Ezio assassinated Francesco, he met with Lorenzo at the Ponte Vecchio. Once there, Lorenzo gifted Ezio a codex page as well as the names of Francesco's co-conspirators. After the meeting, Ezio left for Tuscany to pursue those responsible for the conspiracy.

Once Ezio had killed all those who played a part in the conspiracy, he returned to Lorenzo, who then presented him with the Medici cape as a symbol of faith and trust, and the two parted ways.

Savonarola's take over
After Lorenzo's death in 1492, his son Piero took control of the house. Unfortunately, Piero let Florence fall into the hands of Girolamo Savonarola, who bewitched the citizens with a Piece of Eden.

Ezio Auditore returned to Florence in 1497, only to find that Savonarola had taken control over the city from the Medici. Finally in 1498, Ezio assassinated Savonarola and allowed the Medici to try and regain power. Despite this, it took the Medici fourteen years to regain control of Florence.

Trivia
*The Medici are the only rulers in Assassin's Creed II who control two regions, Florence and San Gimignano.
*The Auditore and Medici families' friendship began when Giovanni Auditore rescued the six year old Lorenzo from drowning in the river Arno.
